Number 18: Van Special
John L.

The number 18 Van Special I had was great. Loved all the different options that came in it and the broth tasted great. I am definitely ordering this again. A No thrills restaurant that is a classic hole in the wall. Parking here stinks! So that is the only negative. But, it's all about the food and the food is really good, at least the dish I had was. The menu prices all look very reasonable. The service we had was very good and the food came out quick. I will comeback for sure.

Total hole in the wall with terrible parking. They use pork belly for the pork, which is very nice a flavorful. Not the best I have ever had, but definitely not the worst. I did experience an MSG hangover off of it though. My coworker drank about 4 bottles of water after this, so it wasn't just me. It's an ok place. It is authentic and worth a try. I'd probably order the Pho dry next time.

Hole in the wall vietnamese spot with a pretty big menu consisting of wonton soup, stir fried dishes, egg noodle soups, pho, and much more. I've only had the egg rolls and pho here but both items were good. Pho broth is refreshing and not overly sweet, and the portion is also pretty big. Food comes out really fast, and most of the clientele are staff from neighboring businesses.

18$ for a bowl of soup Quality was ok Noodles were a little soggy Size was very small Not filling at all but very tasty Service was meh "it's a hole in the wall I don't expect 5 star service" I just think for almost 20$ for a little bowl of soup is very greedy. I do want to mention that they did not request a tip when I paid and I loved that! That's why it's a 2 star other wise would have been 1

First time trying this place and it was a good experience! The location of the place is not that great and it's a bit hidden but the food and service was wonderful. The ambiance felt like an authentic Vietnamese restaurant and comfortable. The cubed steak with tomatoes rice was delicious. The steak was cooked nicely and the veggies along with the tomatoes rice is a good combination. My favorite was the crispy noodle chow fun. First time trying crispy noodle and now I am obsessed. It is crunchy and flavorful and the chow fun sauce mixed well with the veggies and chicken.

This is an unassuming restaurant located in an industrial area parallel to 101. No frills, but the food is good with quality ingredients. I would recommend it.

Cubed Steak with tomato rice

One of the better vietnamese restaurants in the area. I've tried so many different entrees here and I love majority of them. The Cubed Steak with tomato rice takes the cake over all else though. It's so insanely good. Do yourself a favor and order double meat on all of the entrees. Yes they may be delicious but no there is not that much protein to go with the rice lolol. The service is great, it's this sweet lady that is always working whenever I go for lunch. It got to the point that she knew me and my buddies order by memory lolol. I then started switching it up so she had no idea. Had to keep her on her toes ya know? Restaurant isn't that big and it can get pretty busy during lunch so make sure you arrive early. Don't forget to snatch up some of the 50 cent cookies on your way out. Absolutely love Pho Van

WARNING! NEW OWNERSHIP!!...New smaller menu. Soup taste different. Service still needs some help. Slightly remodeled but not really noticeable. New phone order option.

This place located at a small lot that they share with the auto shop next door. Parking was a bit confusing as there were sign do not park or get towed everywhere. I park anyway because I was starving. The pho was okay, the broth was rather too clean. I would like some beef fat in my pho pho. The inside was cozy, and it got busy real quick, but the service was quick. Would definitely come back for the other dishes.

The food was delicious and authentic tasting! Great hole-in-the-wall place for pho, and other Vietnamese dishes. We were attending a conference in the nearby area, so we decided to try this place out for lunch. We were pleased with the food and service!

The rice paired perfectly with it, and I loved all the little sides that came with the plate. The pickled vegetables added a refreshing crunch, and the soup broth was surprisingly one of my favorite parts of the meal -- light but packed with rich flavor that felt really comforting and homemade. The egg coffee was also amazing. It was incredibly creamy, smooth, and almost dessert-like without being overly sweet. The thick egg foam on top blended so well with the coffee and made every sip really satisfying. Definitely something I'd come back for again. On top of the food, the staff were all very kind, attentive, and welcoming throughout the meal. Service was quick, and the restaurant had a really clean and relaxing atmosphere that made it easy to enjoy everything. Overall, a really great experience with fresh, flavorful food and excellent service. I'll definitely be back to try more from the menu!

Nothing fancy, but well-kept by the staff. *** O U R P I C K S *** HA NOI SPECIAL GRILLED PORK VERMICELLI (BUN CHA HA NOI) ~ The meat is quite salty since it was sitting in a sauce, but my friend enjoyed her dish with the noodles and vegetables to balance the flavors. But from the looks of the dish, not much meat on the plate. 3.5/5 GRILLED PORK & PORK EGG ROLL VERMICELLI ~ This is my go-to dish when I'm eating Vietnamese. The pork wasn't really salty or as flavorful as I had expected. Pretty average compared to other eateries with the same dish. I forgot to tell them not to include raw bean sprouts, so when I put the sprouts aside, it filled 1/4 of my bowl. 3.5/5 COMBINATION BEEF PHO ~ My guy ordered this and said the broth was bland compared to other Vietnamese eateries. Not much in the bowl. He went home and made a sandwich. 3/5 HALF HAINANESE CHICKEN AND CHICKEN RICE ~ Our friend ordered this dish; he left more than 1/2 of the chicken on his plate. He said it was dry, and the skin wasn't at all crispy because they didn't blanch it in ice water to give that crispy texture for Hainanese Chicken. The rice wasn't flavorful either. He left dissatisfied and hungry. 2/5 PANDAN WAFFLES ~ comp dessert after our meal. This was lightly sweetened, crispy, and chewy. Actually very good. 4/5 Hit or miss with some of the dishes, though it seemed more misses than hits. I was told the San Jose location is better. But I've tried both and wasn't impressed with either location. The only item we liked was the complimentary dessert!

He spoke English and Vietnamese, which is a plus for those wanting to work on their Vietnamese food ordering skills. The restaurant had plenty of free parking, and a few small tables if you decide to eat onsite. Recommend order to go because it's cramped inside.
