BBQ pork banh mi
Austin W.

My wife and I stopped by for an early lunch around 11:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning and the restaurant was pretty close to empty. I ordered a BBQ pork banh mi while she got a bowl of their beef pho. The bowls of pho here are enormous! If you have a small appetite, you'll definitely want to share bowl. I really liked how clean the broth tasted and how many herbs were floated on top. The side plate of slivered onions was a refreshing touch as well. The baguette the banh mi was served on was fresh, light and crunchy, and the pork was well seasoned. Jalapeños were plentiful and spicy and there was just the right amount of mayo on the inside. Honestly no notes on the banh mi at all -- definitely one of the better ones I've had in the Bay. I wouldn't go so far as to say this place is a hidden gem but if you're looking for a no-frills northern Vietnamese spot, Pho Thin Hanoi is a solid option in San Leandro.

Crab egg rolls, nem cua bể

We like to order to go, since being seniors we cannot finish a whole bowl at the restaurants. Phở Thìn offers many authentic Vietnamese delicacies. My to go dish is always phở, a typical Vietnamese confort dish. But i also like the crab fried rolls here, nem cua bể, and they do it especially well here. Sometimes I would order bún chã Hà Nội too. Service is always friendly. Big dining room, with beautiful orchids. Easy parking, they have their own parking lot.

The quality of food here is fresh and delicious. I love the bbh here. The meat portions is good. I couldn't finish their big bowl. The service is fast. The place looks clean. I will definitely be back here again.

Vermicelli with BBQ chicken and egg roll.

Great food, nice people. Stopped by pretty late on a Saturday night, within the hour they closed, after spending hours at the nearby pet hospital with one of our cats and in need of a hearty meal. The place was nearly empty. They have a pretty large menu here, similar to other Vietnamese restaurants in the area, but they also had specials I'd never seen on other menus, which seem to change out regularly. I ordered the vermicelli with BBQ chicken and an egg roll, which was the perfect amount of food. The chicken was grilled to perfection but still juicy and tender, and the egg roll was crunchy but not overly greasy. I left satisfied with my meal and feeling full with good, healthy food in my stomach. Service was fast and especially given the late hour, and the meal was simple, straightforward, and delicious. No complaints, no issues with anything. Would return again.

This restaurant serves Hanoi-style food from northern Vietnam, so I expected the pho to taste different from southern-style bowls and it did. The broth was clean and flavorful, and it brought me back to my time in Hanoi. Simple, but really delicious. The restaurant is large and clean, with a calm, relaxed vibe. Service was excellent. I came with my grandma, and the owner helped her through the door, which I really appreciated. I've only tried the pho so far, but I'll be back to try the bun cha!

There's a parking lot, which makes coming here very convenient. Staff were friendly and the service was quick. I ordered the rare steak pho, and it came with fresh noodles. The noodles were soft, springy, and had great texture. The broth was flavorful and comforting. The only downside for me was the beef, which was tenderized and gave it a different texture than the usual rare steak you'd expect in pho, and I wasn't a big fan of that. It's a different style of pho and personally wasn't a fan of. Overall, still a solid bowl of pho.

Rib pho

Prices are high but the portions are huge. They also have a pretty expansive menu giving you lots of options between soup noodles, bun, and rice plates. First time we got two soups - I'd recommend skipping the special rib pho as the rib was kinda dry and not worth, but the soup itself was good. Went back more recently and got a bahn mi which was also expensive and more meh. Don't think they use paté on their traditional sandwich which is a no go for us. Well still come back for the convenience and many options though.

Bún Bò Huế

I had the spicy bún bò Huế, and it was delicious flavorful, comforting, and had a great kick. I also tried the spring rolls and avocado boba, and both were really good. Everything tasted fresh, and I would definitely come back!

Packed on a weekend as expected. Small private parking. Walked in and notice a lot of Vietnamese customer which is a plus- that's when you know the food is good. It was packed but we got seated right away. However we waiting some time for our in our order. Removing a star for multiple reasons- it's kinda on the pricier side. I got a coconut juice and the literally cut it just for the straw! Most places cut through so you can also scoop out the coconut meat. I'll attach a photo for reference. Crispy seafood noodles were just okay. The sauce wasn't as flavorful. Order a Thai tea coconut juice and a kids plain pho and it was over $60 Their chili sauce is so good! Fresh and spicy! I would come back to try their beef pho and other special dishes. They offer banh cuon as a weekend special. I also want to come back to try their BBH Also a banh mi cost over $11 which is a lot.

Pho brisket and beef ball
Billy L.

I lived in San Jose for a long time and recently moved to the East Bay. I've tried most of the Vietnamese spots in San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Castro Valley, and Oakland. I was excited to try Pho Thin Hanoi since they serve Northern style pho, which I've had plenty of times both here and in Vietnam. Unfortunately, this place just didn't hit the mark. I came on a weekday around 2 PM and was the only customer there. The broth was super bland and watered down, which is disappointing because that's the heart of any good pho. I ordered brisket and beef balls. The brisket was a little tough and the beef balls were just okay. For the price they're charging, the quality just isn't there. One thing I'll give them is the presentation. The pho looks nice with the julienned green onions. They also make their own chili sauce which reminds me of sambal, but they don't have Sriracha. I get that they're going for authenticity, but at the end of the day you're in a neighborhood where people expect certain basics. If you're not going to deliver strong flavors, at least let people doctor it up how they like. Overall it wasn't terrible, but definitely not worth the price or a return visit for me. There are way better options in the area.

Good food. Nice atmosphere (although this time we got take out.) this place is not cheap, but I really do appreciate the depth of flavor of their broth and the fresh ingredients they use. All restaurants offering take away Pho should have larger take out bowls

Pho Thin

As you can tell from the name, this place has Hanoi style pho, which typically means they put a lot of green onions and the broth (in my experience) is richer. And usually in Hanoi style, they don't give you the basil and sprouts but this place does, which is a plus for me since I like that, even with non-pho dishes. I tried their signature pho, which was delicious. And the beef was tender but wished they were bigger slices and more of them. I do like the interior, which has a classic American diner feel. Comfy. Makes me wonder what it was before. Given how tasty the pho was, I'm eager to try their other dishes.

Came here at night and was absolutely disappointed with the food quality and service. I ordered their seafood option and found plastic on my bowl. I asked to speak to their manager and was right away told that no staff member knew the name of the manager. All the workers were unprofessional and rude and I was called stupid multiple times for not understanding their menu options. Every worker refused to give their name, the lady even touched my partners stale rice and said it was his fault for not coming in earlier in the day. 10/10 don't recommend this place.

Then, as much as we loved the banh mi, the banner and the sidewalk sign advertising them as a new lunch option last year seemed almost like they were really, really trying to pull in more people any way they could. Every time I walked past this place, it was either empty or there were one to two tables with guests at a time. So when the word finally broke a few days ago that the owners have sold the place and are closing, I felt really sad, but wasn't surprised. It's definitely the end of an era, and is one of those longtime San Leandro restaurants in this strip of E 14th that has a comforting, early 2000s vibe -- and is now gone, like so many before them. It's frustrating, especially because the likelihood of them possibly getting replaced by a chain or yet another taqueria or Chinese place is high (though they apparently don't know what will be moving in after them). Dropped by yesterday with my husband for a final lunch. He got the bun bo hue and I got the yellow curry stir fry and fried rice. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious, and the restaurant was nearly entirely full with people having their own last meals and saying their goodbyes to the owners. While the owner was incredibly nice, service was terrible. She was overworked, working the counter, packing up to-go orders, taking table orders, bringing out food, AND bussing tables alone. The party next to us was a little frustrated that she still hadn't come by to take their order and went to the counter to flag her down. I don't know how much longer Le Soleil would've remained viable if service has been like this for months. It's a sad situation, but I wish nothing but the best for the owners, especially if they decide to open another restaurant in the future.

Our food had just arrived, when a couple with two large dogs came into the restaurant. The dogs were NOT service dogs. The waiter proceeded to seat the couple with their dogs behind my husband and I. I was appalled!! The waiter never asked if we were OK if the couple sat near us. I want to point out that my husband and I are dog lovers and have had dogs for 20 years. I understand what it feels like to love them like family, but at the end of the day they are dogs. The law clearly states: "Under California Health and Safety Code § 114259.5, live animals are strictly prohibited inside the indoor dining or food preparation areas of a restaurant. The only legal exceptions are for official law enforcement dogs and individually trained service dogs. Emotional support animals (ESAs) or companion pets do not qualify under California law or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and are not allowed indoors." So unless you are comfortable with dog hair possibly flying into your food, because you never know when a dog is going to shake, I would advise you NOT to eat here.
