This is my favorite Vietnamese place in Richmond. The bun xeo is my favorite. My only beef is I need more fish sauce. The nuoc cham is too sweet and watery for me. I need more of that fish sauce funk. I didn't wanna ask for a little on the side in case it was a faux pas I guess. This recent visit was with my mom. We had my fav Bun Xeo. We had an app platter that was just ok. And she had the Bun bo hue. She didn't like it that much but I thought it was good and the brisket in it was tender with some good fat on it. I just need more limes and fish sauce. read more

This is a great restaurant for pho. It's maybe 10-12 tables inside so fairly intimate. Service is fine-nothing over the top, but quick and attentive if you need something. The staff are friendly and try to be personable, which you don't typically find at businesses like this, so that's a plus. There are many good options here including oxtails, but on this visit I opted for the chicken pho and crab Rangoon. The Rangoon were small but yummy and you got about five of them with sweet chili sauce. I'd order those again. The pho was tasty and broth was good. Overall, this is a good option in the west end for pho and other Vietnamese dishes. read more

Reviews said this was some of the best Vietnamese food in the area so how could I pass up giving their pho a try? Got there around 5pm and saw they had a happy hour which was cool that included both apps and drinks. I was immediately seated and my server poured fresh ice water and gave me a few minutes to look over the menu. I went with my usual - spring rolls and beef pho...both were tasty! The peanut sauce for the spring rolls and the pho broth were the stars of the meal! If I were ever in town again I would totally visit again and try a rice dish. read more

I was looking forward to trying this place but the food turned out terrible. Got pho chay and spring rolls.. rolls were ok but the pho broth was tasteless and the noodles smelled rancid. Friday 12:30pm 6/7/24 Met a friend here for lunch. Nice quiet place, clean and family friendly. I already looked at the menu the day before and decided on the "sampler". It had 3 small Crab Rangoons, 3 fried dumplings, 2 fried shrimp and 1 crispy spring roll, 1 soft spring roll. It also came with 3 dipping sauces. In taste, the sampler was average. I came here on a Wednesday night and got a bowl of pho #11 ($14) and it had steak,brisket and meatball. When the waiter brought out our water there was a fruit fly in it. They immediately got us new waters. After about 6 minutes the pho came out. The broth was savory with just the right saltiness. A fair amount of meat was given. Service was quick and staff was average. Overall one of the better pho in RVA, however because of that fly in water incident it did sour the experience. I typically stay in the Horsepen Rd corridor for Vietnamese food because it's authentic, inexpensive, and good. I thought I'd try something new and popped in Pho Saigon. The menu wasn't huge (so if you suffer from too many options, this won't be a problem) and had a good blend of old favorites and new things to try. I came for pho and ordered pho ga. The broth can be bland with pho ga, but that was actually the best part. It was hot and very tasty. The portion size was ample. I left satisfied. The others at the table were happy as well. So, if you are in the west end and looking for Vietnamese, consider Pho Saigon. read more

Popped in for late lunch on dreary rainy Saturday. We were seated right away, they were not overly busy there were always people coming and going. Our server/host brought waters and took our orders, I have to say they're very efficient! Place is clean, nicely decorated, painted muted green with Asian accents on walls. I ordered short rib pho special and it was amazing and really hit the spot on cold day. Huge chunks of tender meat, tasty broth and veggies - what more can you ask for. Price wasn't listed or poss I didn't noticed it but it was well worth it for 20$. Portion was huge and I was able to eat about half and rest took home. We have now been to Pho Saigon twice. The menu is enticing, lots of choices! Both times my dining partner has ordered the Yello pancake as her main. No lie, it is truly the best in the area. Full of savory notes and attentively cooked. The pho, unfortunately, is a mixed bag. The broths were both excellent. But for whatever reason the noodles have been all but fall-apart mush. There are many other Vietnamese dishes I like, so I will skip the pho next time and focus on those. read more

The second i walked in, i absolutely loved the ambiance. it already gave me a sweet-cozy-comfy feel. We already got seated within a 30 seconds minute. Although it was busy at the time the service was above average chilly night. I picked No. 58, was filled to a great portion of chicken, vermicelli, and ginger. Broth had cinnamon taste to it, which was not my favorite, but still a nice filling meal. I order this delivery via DoorDash very regularly. My go-to order is the Pho Tai Chin. Quality control is stellar as every order has been consistently delicious. The broth is always piping hot and cooks the meat perfectly. Serving size is perfect. The main perk for me is that Pho Saigon has a box to mark "Gluten Allergy." As someone with celiac, this is so helpful and reassuring that my meal will be safe for me. I haven't gotten sick at all from Pho Saigon. We love this place. The Pho is to die for. I love the number 8 sliced beef. I tried it and go at least once a week. The owner recognizes us and are always very friendly as are the rest of the staff. I was craving pho and saw that this was closest to me where I was and decided to drop in and just order a bowl of pho. I came in and noticed that the place was already packed and the customers were all waiting at their tables and no food ready for them. I took my chances and sat at my table knowing that I will probably wait on my food as well. Thinking it would be a 20 minute wait turned to be almost 2 hours wait! When they brought my water it had a dead bug in it, which made me question the cleanliness of the restaurant. The waiter's response to my water was, "Oh, that's not supposed to be there," and that was it. Finally, when my food arrived they gave me the wrong dish and it was for the table behind me. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. There was only one waiter who was serving the whole restaurant. I was excited to go here, but my experience fell short with how unorganized and understaffed it was. You love good Pho? Me too! It's such an amazing dish, and love the varieties of options that one can get. It's like "pizza" soup -- lots of "toppings" to choose from in a lovely broth with noodles. There's nothing like it. We decided to go here because of some good reviews, and we were in the mood. We were seated quickly at a table for two. Not too busy of a night, nice decor, and warmly lit. We were asked for drink orders and received those shortly thereafter. We started with the steamed dumplings (5) which arrived a few minutes later. They were placed neatly on a plate with dipping sauce. They were tasty, basic, but lacked much flavor. Might go for something different next time. We both ordered Pho. I had the #13 and she opted for the chicken soup (basically). Both arrived with a nice presentation and standard accompaniment of garnish (bean sprouts, basil, jalapeno, and lime). However, the garnish was really small. I suppose I'm used to a larger mound of this, but maybe they thought we weren't going to use it at all? Not sure. So...I dumped what she didn't use into my soup bowl. The table had standard accompaniments of Hoisen sauce, Soy sauce, and Chili Oil. However, there was no fish sauce. I mean...who doesn't like some fish sauce in their Pho? I waved the waiter over and asked for some fish sauce. He literally did a double-take. "Fish sauce?!" he asked with incredulity. "Yes!" I said enthusiastically. Expecting a bottle of rich and fishy aromatic potion, he brought a bowel with some liquid in it. I smelled it - it was kind of fishy. I tasted it. Not the fish sauce I've had over the years, but something that tasted more like a combination of fish sauce, cider vinegar, and sugar. It was okay, but made the dish taste kind of "sweetly weird." Got the bun bo cha gio and it was not very good the fish sauce did not taste or smell like fish sauce and it was super sweet.

I was so excited to try this please because my friend told me they are like the only Pho place that have oxtail pho. I call ahead and order takeout and it was ready when I got there. The oxtail was so tender and fell off the bone. The broth was very flavorful. My only complaint is that the Willie portions aren't as big as other pho places. The only way I can describe the pork-belly lettuce wraps at Pho Saigon is like this: imagine that all of your senses are wholly focused on what is going on in your mouth. You are only tasting. You hear nothing, feel nothing, can say nothing. Definitely your eyes are closed, so you see nothing. For a few moments, bliss is your sole state. It is rare to have this feeling in any restaurant, let alone one in a non-descript strip mall. But the Richmond food scene can surprise you. I am grateful. On a subsequent visit, I tried the Bahn Mi, the sandwich that is the exquisite merger of East and West, bright Vietnamese flavor bombs on French bread; lemon grassy tones of pickled vegetables accentuating chicken and pate. This is one of my favorite Asian dishes and I make of point of sampling it whenever its on the menu. This is one of the best. The prices and service are on a human scale here. I ordered the curry lunch special with a spring roll and wonton soup. It was nothing special about it. I ordered it to my job and the first red flag was the delivery driver left my food on the floor by the door instead of sitting it on the table right beside the door. When I opened the container the food was borderline warm. Barely room temperature. The spring roll had wilted lettuce, and half a spring inside. It was so disappointing. The wonton soup was decent and the hottest thing I received. The white rice, was nothing to rave about. The curry!?!?! Was the worst curry I ever ate which was so upsetting because I love curry. I had literally 5 slim pieces of chicken and the rest were barely cooked veggies. Lacked flavored, zero spice, and honestly a waste of money. I will never eat here again. read more

Was craving pho all through my work shift and this place was close enough to make it before closing time. I called in and ordered two chicken pho, pork spring rolls and shrimp spring rolls. It only took me 7-8 minutes to get there and my order was ready upon arrival. I can't say anything about the service, as the person I picked up from didn't greet or speak much. The pho was good, but not remarkably so. There was an ample amount of chicken and the toppings (basil, cilantro, lime, bean sprouts, onion, scallion, jalapeño) were buried underneath the chicken, so I honestly thought they'd forgotten them! It wasn't until I added the broth that the toppings began to surface. On one hand it was a win bc the chicken was so dense I couldn't see anything under it. But on the other sand, it wasn't preferable because I like to add, taste, add, taste. Now everything was wet. WFH for nearly two years, I've ordered plenty of pho and never ever were the noodles and toppings all in one like this. I imagine their method of having everything in one bowl saves on packaging, but it's just something to note if you'd prefer it separate as well. They had me at "oxtail" - I grew up on my mom's German-style Ochsenschwanzsuppe (oxtail soup), so when introduced long ago to Asian versions of oxtail soup I was so there. [updating this review to add - yeah, thought I'd reviewed 'em before, and yeah, I'm definitely all about the oxtails, amirite?] And Pho Saigon has been a go-to delivery order source during the Covid pandemic, too, keeping me as healthy as possible with good immune-boosting beef broth and all the yummy goodies that go into a bowl of pho. Asked for no daikon and no onion. There was no daikon but also no carrot (maybe they're made together so I won't knock them here) and there definitely was onion. I normally really like pork belly, but this was very chewy and entirely devoid of flavor. The cucumber had a strange white sauce on it that I didn't care for. When I was ordering I thought it was odd that the bahn mi came with a side of pho broth. That was until I had my first bite. Without the pho broth I would have stopped after the first bite; with the pho broth I ate half the bahn mi before I gave up. Unfortunately I just can't recommend this item at all.
