Cute place, but I wish the actual food was a better experience. I got the only pescatarian noodle soup option, the Kui Tiao Tom Yum Kung. The rice noodles were so overcooked I could barely eat it. The shrimp was very good though. I wish they had a tofu pho option like most places I go to, but then again, this isn't actually a pho restaurant like I thought it was. Then, I got mango sticky rice, and they gave me about 2 tablespoons of rice. I have never experienced that at a Thai restaurant. Overall, very strange and expensive night for not much payoff. Really good Thai food! I know...the name implies Vietnamese, but there's actually a really nice Thai menu. Located on the corner of Jay street, it's a casual spot for dining in (and they do a ton of take out). Food is excellent; we shared steamed vegetable dumplings and chicken satay. Main courses were Kuai Tiao Nam Soup and salmon panang. Soup got great reviews and I really liked my salmon. Curry was delicious and the veggies were cooked just right. The salmon was breaded and fried-but the menu said that it was grilled. Regardless, it was delicious. Had a blueberry bubble tea and enjoyed trying something different (i usually go for a Thai or green tea option). This little place has been on my radar since it opened years ago. My favorite dish was always the Ginger with Mushrooms entree. But with the restaurant moving across from Schenectady City Hall and its odd pandemic hours, its been a while since I've eaten there. But all that changed last night when my friend and I checked it out. We started with the Crab Rangoons, Vegetable Spring Rolls, and Thai Ice Tea. It's been a while, but the Rangoons tasted like they were made with real crab (don't quote me though), and were really good. The Vegetable Spring Rolls have always been a classic, but the Thai Ice Tea may have been the best we've ever had. No joke, order one here and check it out! For dinner, my friend ordered the Pad See Eww, which was fantastic. Perfectly cooked noodles with chicken, chunks of broccoli, carrots, garlic and kale in a yummy slightly sweet gravy. I ordered the Kao Aob Sabparod after my friend pointed it out on the menu and it's also my new favorite dish in the Capital Region. It's an amazing yellow curry fried rice dish with chicken, pineapple, raisins, onions, garlic, broccoli, cilantro, scrambled egg, peas, carrots, and cashews. The curry was perfectly mild, with those little pops of sweetness in your mouth from pineapple and the occasional raisin. The various flavors and textures created a very enjoyable savory-sweet experience. So much so, that I caught myself wanting to protect my dish like a wild animal wherever my friend reached over for ANOTHER taste. Fortunately for our friendship, I bit my lip and didn't say anything rude. Pho Queen was an overwhelmingly positive experience for the two of us. Oh my god, THE WORST pad thai I have ever experienced in my life...something was genuinely wrong with it. It tasted like straight grill char or some sort of chemical. Complete waste of $20. Everything was tainted, even the chicken in the dish had a char taste. I had both my parents try it and they had to spit it out! The spring rolls were flavorless mush -- and $10 for 5 tiny rolls is insane. We have been to This restaurant many times in the past. It has definitely been over a year since our last time in and we decided to order take out. I don't know what happened - but the portion and quality was so poor compared to What we had experienced. I called to speak to Owner/chef and express our disappointment. The pad tai we ordered did say "tender chicken" in no way did we expect actual breaded chicken tenders that youd get with a kids meal. I could swallow that we ordered one dish by mistake but the spicy basil, panang curry, papaya salad and tai fried rice all disappointed, minimal Protein and size. Nothing like they used to be. They were stuck to the container so they broke apart taking them out. They were about 4 inches long , in my opinion way overpriced at $12 a piece. Flavor was just okay but sticky in texture. Despite the name, it isn't just pho. Friend and I got two appetizers and two pho (noodle soup) both seafood. Mine yellow noodles, hers rice glass noodles. The soup flavor was delicous, however, it had a single shrimp, mussel, calmari and scallop in the bowl. Sparse seafood was the most disappointing part of the food we got. Summer spring roll was fresh and delicous. Shrimp satay was lightly grilled also really good. Had enough pho broth for a second meal. (More seafood added from home larder.) Location, you need to pay for parking. Not their fault parking machines are broken or a bit of a distance from their establishment. Wait staff was good although it appeared to be a single person waiting tables, serving food, cashing out and clearing tables. (Hope he's paid well.) Chef graced the dining room once the crowd left to chat with patrons. Worth a return visit if I find myself in the neighborhood. Just talked to friend who was dining companion. Finally was able to take my mom to this great place. The server accommodated her request for limited ingredients in her meal due to food intolerances. Google maps indicated it was "busier than usual" but when we arrived there was just two tables with customers, and then during our stay another couple came in. So we all got our own corners of the dining area and enjoyed the subdued ambience of hushed conversations. Mom and I ordered the "Soup of the Day," which was a fabulous coconut milk chicken soup appetizer. Clatter and cooking smells emanating from the kitchen served as appetite stimulants as well so it felt so cozy and relaxed. Restaurant is in an old but clean building and space is decorated with your typical gold Thai tapestries and statues. Chairs have been updated using fabric covers but are solid and sturdy. Most tables are set up to seat two, but those tables can be moved to accommodate larger groups. Mom ordered the ginger and mushrooms with chicken, and I had the Kao phad Kee-Mao. Her dish was colorful and zippy with ginger but in a mellow way. My dish was a fancy fried rice dish, with a variety of veggies, chicken (my meat selection), basil, chiles, and garlic sauce. I enjoyed the flavors initially but there was a subtle burnt aftertaste that I couldn't shake. Still I gobbled it up-- and took some leftovers home too. We also liked the after-meal candies sitting in a big bowl on the counter--my mom got greedy and took two (one coffee and one peppermint), and I took a coffee candy. Next to the counter is a lovely display of fancy candles and soaps for sell. Nice gift ideas for someone special. Exiting the restaurant on a warm autumn night, we strolled around Jay Street to walk off the meal. Free evening parking in front of the post office and then convenient walking to pedestrian-only Jay Street wrapped up the nice evening. Pho Queen is in a very good location for a nice meal adjacent to local shopping and other events in downtown Schenectady. I will recommend this place to friends and will also return! read more

Amazing food here. Absolutely amazing. Phad Preaw Wan if you like pineapple. It's a wonderful mix of sweetness that's just awesome. The fried dumplings were very small but extremely good. I got some the other day that were quite large but bland and I think in this case the juice is worth the squeeze. Overall would get food here again. Well I've finally gotten the time to write this review! My DS came home for the weekend, he's vegetarian so naturally we looked online to find food he would eat. My DH and I were at this place when it was owned by a different owner. We saw that it had a new owner and usually asian food has many vegetarian options so we decided to come here. We arrived early maybe around 6pm and were approached right away by a server to sit any where we like. He asked us if we would like a beverage. I ordered a Thai Bubble Tea $4 Mango flavor... It had tapioca in it not my favorite though. DS ordered one that had milk in it so he couldn't drink that as he is intolerant so he sent it back and had water DH ordered Green Tea Bubble $4... he kind of liked it. Next we ordered Edamame $7... It was pipping hot and delicious! Any time we visit asian restaurants we order this as it is very good for you and yummy too. For my entree I ordered Ginger and Mushroom with chicken fresh ginger, mushroom, onions, broccoli, bell pepper, scallions and cilantro at $14. From my pictures you can see that it looked great but after I started eating it I could see that it was very greasy not to my liking. DH had Ga Pow with chicken stir fried, garlic and chili, string bean, onion, broccoli, red and green bell pepper and basil at $14. He said it was good but extremely spicy. DS had Panang Curry... curry paste, coconut milk, red and green bell pepper, kaffir lime, salt, fish sauce and sugar at $14. He said it was good. All n' all this place was just ok... I was mainly disappointed in my entree as it was way to greasy. I'm giving this three stars because of the very nice service, prettily decorated and my family liked there meals but mine was not that good. A delicious spot across from City Hall. The food was fresh, well prepared and delicious. We ordered the shrimp satay, drunken noodles with tofu, pork Thai fried rice, and a bubble tea. It took a bit to get the food but the wait was worth it. The skewers had four medium sized shrimp with crisp tender peppers and onion. The fried rice was full of meat and fresh veggies. The drunken noodles were a real surprise. Spicy with unbreaded but fried tofu that had a nice crisp edge to them. We'll be coming back to try more. read more

This is 98% delicious Thai and 2% Vietnamese pho. So not so much pho, but a ton of food fit for royalty! I had a lovely rich curry with the perfect amount of heat. If I lived in this city I would make it my goal to eat everything on this menu. My kids had the pho, and it was also very good. There is a lot of construction on the street, and no parking on Sundays because of the open air market, but don't let this stop you. They seem to have a very active take out business. Oh! Also they had a small menu at each table for beverages and desserts, the prices on the menus for each beverage that we ordered were $2 more when the bill came. We pointed it out and the waiter said that he has informed the owner and she won't do anything about the discrepancy in price. We had no option but to pay the extra $6 in beverage prices. My wife had a craving for pho. We were in downtown Schenectady. I recalled hearing about a place with pho in its name. I looked it up on Google and we were off to find it at 5 pm on a Monday. First of all, if a restaurant has pho in its name you probably expect it to be Vietnamese. Contraire mon frère. This is an authentic Thai restaurant run by Thai people. On their web page they explain how the dish is originally a Chinese import whose Thai name is kuai-tiao, a generic name for various rice noodle dishes. Pho Queen offers seven variations of the dish which can include beef, pork, duck, or seafood. But the menu doesn't end there. They offer appetizers, curry dishes, stir-fried dishes, rice dishes, house specialties, and other noodle dishes. The dining room is small, it only seats about 18 at six tables, but those plush high-back seats are very comfortable. There's an electric fireplace, and the owners have added an additional space heater or two to offset the cold winter drafts that may seep through the windows. While Pho Queen does not serve alcoholic beverages, they will allow you to bring your own with a $3 surcharge. It being one of those cold winter days we each had a cup of tea ($2.50 each). The tag on the bags said they were organic Prince of Peace. If it were warmer weather, I would have opted for a Thai Ice Tea ($2.50) or maybe a Thai Bubble Tea ($3). They also have coffee, soda, lemonade and fruit smoothies. We decide to start with something that we had never tried or even seen before, Sakoo Sai Moo ($7). These are tapioca balls slightly smaller than a golf ball, filled with steamed pork, peanut, cabbage, garlic, and scallion, wrapped in cilantro and iceberg lettuce. There are six to an order and they are delicious. I can understand how they would be excellent as street food. Easy to eat on their little skewers with delicious flavors. For my wife's pho she chose the Kuai Tiao Tom Yum Kung ($16) with fresh jumbo shrimp and rice noodles in a lemongrass and kaffir lime broth garnished with bean sprouts and cilantro. The broth was not as rich or full bodied as what we've experienced with Vietnamese pho, but it was full of flavor and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. I know my wife enjoyed it because I couldn't believe she finished the entire bowl of it. My choice was a favorite that I haven't had in some time. Pad See Eww ($14) - with my choice of pork for the meat, it also includes egg, Chinese kale, broccoli, soy sauce, carrot, fried garlic, and of course wide rice noodles. The flavors were really nice, although I would have preferred more char flavor from the wok in the noodles. My wife thought it was just great the way it was. Pricing is arranged so that if you choose chicken, pork, beef, tofu, or vegetable to be included in your dish it will cost $14. Shrimp or scallop is $16. Duck is $18. This way you can craft some of the dishes to your liking. We didn't have room for dessert, but the menu showed Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Custard Sticky Rice, or Taro Pearl with Coconut Milk, each $6. They also offered Fried Ice Cream for $7. If you're not too familiar with Downtown Schenectady, when you walk out of Proctor's theater, turn right and go east on State Street for about two blocks. Lafayette Park will be directly in front of you. Bear to your right and you will see Pho Queen in the corner of an architecturally old building between St George's church and the Court House. There is free parking after 6 pm on weekdays alongside the park and free parking after 5 pm on weekdays and all day on Saturday behind St Joseph's church. We are already looking forward to returning to try the Green Curry. read more

I love this restaurant. The food is phenomenal, and the service is always quick. They serve one of my favorite Thai meals, pad see ew, and I order it almost every time. There are many options to choose from, and staff is flexible in case you need an ingredient left out. I always let them know of any dietary restrictions when I order, and they've been diligent. The dining area is lit with natural light, and is kept clean and comfortable. There is plenty of space so it doesn't feel claustrophobic. The only issue I've had has been parking, but that was when they were doing work on the road outside the building. read more

Today my daughter and I stopped in for lunch. Two separate dishes and ingredients missing from both dishes. When waiter was questioned, he said let me get the chef/ owner to come out and talk to you. We will never go back there to eat again! By the way, I have never had pad Thai taste like this dish. My daughter lived in Asia for a period of time and she said there is nothing authentic about the food at Pho Queen! Pad Thai had three peanuts , no bean sprouts and very little egg and not pad Thai noodles! It was disgusting! Oh and no lime and four very small pieces of chicken! My Daughter had a menu with prices, my menu only had a few prices listed in it. Overall the atmosphere is very nice, the waiter was extremely nice however the food took about 30 minutes to come out when we were the only diners at the time. We ordered pad see aew (I think that's how you spell) and drunken noodles. The pad see aew was over cooked, while the noodles were a bit undercooked. The drunken noodles were overly salty and spicy which is my fault I should have made a note. I'm willing to try again as the prior experiences of this restawas exceptional. I believe this time to be a fluke. Also it good to note that they moved to jay street about a 5 minute drive. Update: I've ordered from them twice more. The drunken noodles are a bit hard once again maybe it's just the way they cook it but I've never had them like that. We arrived early for lunch on a Tuesday, 2 young children and myself. We were graciously grated and seated. My children were welcome and treated very nicely. The menu has many options; noodle dishes, rice, curries and stir fries and the kind protein desired is just asked for. Mmm this was some good Thai. I only came in for take out, so I can't say too much about the experience, here. I'm talking strictly about the food (and service regarding takeout). That said, it was easy to order over the phone. They got my order perfectly right away. I didn't have to repeat myself a bunch of times. It took about 20 minutes for the food to be ready. That was fine. When we got there, the place smelled like my aunt's house and looked like a hotshot American fusion place I've seen in Morocco. The decor was interesting and not what I expected (gray satin-y throne-like chairs, nice plants). I ordered the green curry, my go-to Thai order. It was not what I expected. It was very liquidy and there was a lot of liquid in comparison to hearty veggies. The curry itself was out of this world. It's likely very spicy to the normal human, but for me, it was the perfect amount of spice. I had never had green curry that spicy before. If the green curry here and the green curry at Albany's Sukhothai had a baby, it would be the best green curry to ever exist, bequeathed from the heavens themselves. I couldn't finish the thing. I rarely do. After the curry was sitting in my somewhat warm car for a few hours, they became drunk munchies on the floor of my boyfriend's bedroom. They have some real talented and humble people in the kitchen. The quality of their ingredients, the professional gentle service, the mind-blowing flavors of their dishes ... They take a challenge on using the authentic seasonings and the finest produces you can get in this area to interpret their food and culture. That is what makes them stand out among many other Thai restaurants. We started with the soup of day - coconut chicken soup and the sticky rice ball lettuce wraps (forget the name here). The soup is a 10/10 for me. The creaminess from the coconut with a great gentle touch of the acidity from the citrus. Refreshing! That was the word first came up to my mind. Later, I tasted the secondary flavor of the soup - chicken. So I tried a piece of the chicken from the soup. It was tender and juicy in perfect harmony with the soup. Many times, when I had tum yum soup or Tom kha gai (Thai coconut soup) at other restaurants in this region, it often felt like a bunch of ingredients was sadly soullessly put together. But this coconut chicken soup sparked a lot of joy for me and lightened me up immediately. For entrees, we had drunken noodles with shrimp and tofu, beef noodle soup, and later yellow curry. Whenever I want Pad Thai I come here. I can only review their Pad Thai and their potstickers, because I don't see the point it trying anything else. I've already found the perfect combination; and I deserve it. I was fortunate enough to be able to save some Pad Thai once for lunch the next day, but I couldn't take it any longer and had to eat it for breakfast. I didn't even heat it up, and on my honor it was the best decision I could have made. It was delicious. I hope one day I'll be able to save some more for breakfast the next day, but by the time I think about it the Pad Thai is always already all gone. Jasmine Thai on Broadway used to be Schenectady's best kept secret - until this gem opened up just inside the heart of downtown. The two are actually part of the same group of restauranteurs - and that's a good thing. 2 minutes away from Proctors by foot, it's nestled in a cute little historic building on the base of state streets hill. Service is attentive and accommodating, and she recognized my dining companions from their previous dedicated patronage at Jasmine. Small dining area is neat but seating is limited. The food was simply outstanding. As with Jasmine, their treatment of their duck and seafood dishes is second to none.
