Ate here a few times. Pho is delicious. Good portions and vege are fresh. Price is not too expensive. No MSG side effect!

I think this place is good if you need a quick fix. My brother and I have come here twice to satiate our post-grocery shopping appetites. Their pho is pretty good and the service for both times we went has been consistent and fast. The servers who work here have always been courteous to us. I personally really like their spring rolls. Those were so good. I'm not sure about the peanut sauce, seemed just a tad bit too watery for my taste but nothing to complain about. I think I got their seafood pho twice. I like that they actually include a lot of seafood options in this pho because I've been to some pho places where you'd be lucky to get maybe... one shrimp? Here, you get a good amount and a good variety so that's always nice. I'll definitely come back again and maybe I'll be more adventurous next time and try something else on their menu, though it's nice to know I can fall back on their seafood pho if all else fails. read more

I was hoping to add a new restaurant to my rotation of takeout places, but I wasn't particularly impressed with the new Pho Lyfe restaurant, which took over the Gombei location. Perhaps I ordered the wrong items here? I get that maybe you should order pho at a pho restaurant, but it was a hot day so I wasn't feeling like soup. Plus bun and rice plates are pretty standard fare at Vietnamese restaurants, so I would expect them to do a good job on those dishes as well. I ate most of the combination rice plate (bbq pork, shredded pork and egg cake) and had some of someone else's bun (grilled pork and shrimp). They were ok, but the grilled meats were on the blander side for my taste. I'd usually expect more flavor from grilled meats. Similarly, the garlic fish sauce chicken wings didn't have the kick and crispiness I've experienced elsewhere. The egg rolls were ok. The the beef and brisket was a decent amount served. A+ Recommend! The rice plate was okay, I don't really like the rice too dry and pork chop was slightly undercooked, but the flavor was great! I ordered the vegan spring rolls, they were refreshing but I thought the lettuce to noodle ratio was off and the mint became overpowering. I also ordered the beef meatball pho. Wandered in hungry after a hike and some grocery shopping nearby, and wow this place didn't disappoint! Love how their broth has a strong spiced flavor and comes out piping hot. The seafood pho did not match anything close to what is pictured on the menu, had one piece of calamari, two shrimp, 1 each orange and white colored fish balls. noodles were plenty and the soup was tasty. pay up front as you leave so don't wait for the bill. Spring rolls were really sticky to the touch and tasted average. Fried chicken wings were small and over cooked. Come here to get your pho fix. They have alot of different kinds of pho even a seafood pho. We got the Pho Tai, which has rare steak. Very good broth and the large had alot of meat and noodles. I've ordered food from here about 15ish+ times now, one thing I can say is that they are extremely consistent and use fresh ingredients. The pork chop with shredded pork skin and egg cake is really good, so are their vermicelli bowls. I've had their pho as well and the place isn't the most amazing knock your socks off experience but it's good, I'd probably give it a solid 8.2/10. It's definitely one of the better places without having to drive into south or east side San Jose. read more

Fantastic pho spot! They have AMAZING and perfectly balanced broth - just enough salt to bring out flavors, but not salty; just enough spice to give it depth, without overwhelming the bone broth; and it is served at a perfect temperature with no need to blow to cool it down. We got Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk, the shrimp spring rolls, the chicken pho, and the beef combination pho. Everything was wonderfully balanced, seasoned, and fresh, with the rice noodles keeping a bit of bounce and kick when served. The broth was out of this world, though. I would come back for the food alone, but the service was also fantastic! The lady waiting on us was very warm, friendly, and helpful the whole way through, and she was a delight to interact with. This was the first time trying Pho Lyfe. Gotta say I Love the name but love the food even more! My sister was going to San Jose and on the way back to Oakland, she stopped by Pho Lyfe to pick up some food. She ordered me one of my favorites (Bun Bo Hue) for pick up and delivered it to me in Oakland. I didn't get a chance to eat it until I got off of work that night. Heat it up on the stove and proceeded to taste the broth, as that's the first thing we usually do before we dig in. The broth was very flavorful and they gave a good amount of food to go with it. Pretty good service, decent location, delicious food! To start, I really liked the pho broth here - I ordered the Rare Steak and Tripe Pho (Tai Sach). The broth stood out to me because it had a strong star anise flavor, which I haven't noticed from other pho places in the area. It was unique and delicious, so I'll definitely be back for more! I also loved the ratio of meat to noodles here, and especially that there was a nicely-sized amount of tripe included in the dish. I think the location is decent - it's super spacious inside and pretty new and clean, but the parking lot can be busy and harder to navigate at times. I'll definitely be back for more, and to try other things! I liked that they had Oxtail Soup on the menu, but unfortunately, it was sold out when I went, and I don't know if it'll be back. read more

I suppose that with enough time, restaurants like these will eventually exhaust all the plays on the word "pho". But for what it's worth, the name did catch our eye as we were driving past one day, and shortly thereafter we decided to give it a shot. The restaurant is located in the former Gombei, and other than being more brightly lit with some different posters on the wall, it looks about the same. With Covid and all the tables are a little more sparse, but on the day that we came there was ample indoor seating available. It was a mixed experience during our visit. We were seated right away and were given menus, but as seems to be the norm at similar restaurants, the waiter returned to the table less than two minutes later to ask for our order, which we weren't ready to make. Generally speaking, if everyone is still looking intently at the menu that usually means that they actually still considering their options. But since he seemed intent on getting our order right then and there, we went ahead and made our choices. On our table that evening: Garlic fried chicken wings - hot, crispy, sweet, moist. Very good. BBQ spicy lemongrass chicken and rice - the chicken was cooked well. The lemongrass flavor was subtle but detectable, but it wasn't as spicy as we had expected, but that's okay. Combination rice plate - we asked the waiter to describe this dish to us, but the language barrier prevented us from getting a good understanding. This was a mixed bag. It came with three different proteins: a grilled pork chop, a wedge of something that they said was a egg cake but resembled meatloaf, and a shredded pork concoction. The pork chop was the best and the egg cake was okay, but the shredded pork was quite dry. Pho - I ordered the rare steak & crispy flank pho. However, I clearly didn't receive what I ordered. There was a lot of tendon in the bowl (not my favorite) and I could not discern two types of meat. By the time I realized this, I was already well into my bowl and I decided to not make a big deal about it. However, after I paid my bill (I didn't ask for the bowl to be comped), I pointed out the problem. The waiter acted like it wasn't any big deal and implied that I got free tendon as opposed to the wrong dish. Kinda of a jerk attitude, TBH. The pho flavor, however, was quite good. The anise level is lower here than in most other places, which I actually prefer. It was still aromatic and pleasing. On food quality this place is probably around a 4 in my book (though would avoid the combination rice plate in the future), but service issues knocks this down a notch. Having said that, I'd still come back because that pho broth flavor was good. read more

P9 Fatty Brisket and their regular brisket cuts are so tender and delicious. Most pho spots have thick, hard to chew brisket slices but this place has THE. BEST. Brisket in their pho. We got the rare beef & beef ball pho and seafood pho. We were incredibly hungry and really craving pho so we decided to check out Pho Lyfe. Despite our extreme hunger and large appetites, we were unable to even eat half of our meals. The noodles were soggy and inedible, the soup was bland, and the portion for toppings was meager. Really disappointed in a restaurant that seems to have good Yelp reviews. Will definitely not be coming back - it did not hit the spot at all. We also got 2 Vietnamese milk coffees. Passion fruit drink is delicious - fresh and lots of passion fruit base! Shrimp goi cuon was beautifully wrapped and had fresh mint, so you know it's authentic :) Pho had a strong anise flavor, but overall good on a rainy day. I should note that I'm very critical on the Pho that I consume. - The broth wasn't very rich, I needed to drown it with Sriracha & Hoisin for it to be decent. - The fresh noodles are just ass, which sucks because everywhere I go fresh noodles are always my go too! Lacks flavor or any consistency of a satisfying bite (even with Sriracha and Hoisin). - The meat is alright. Nothing special. Just average; which is not something to strive for. Overall: The noddles are 5/10, the broth is 6/10, & the meat is 6/10. This place has a lot of potential; from it's location to it's small shop ambiance. Whether it's grabbing a bowl with an old friend, sitting down with your family, or just sitting solo to grab a quick hot bowl of pho. However, potential is indeed wasted energy. This is my go-to pho place. I always order takeout so I cannot attest to the sit down experience. However, the food is always so good. I usually get either the combo pho or chicken plate. The portions are big enough for me to split the food over two days and the quality is very consistent. I did notice that the pho soup used to taste very herby and medicinal but recently it has gone more to the savory side maybe because of new recipe or owner. I was recommended this restaurant by a few friends and after a night of drinking and regretting it the next morning, I figured ill go see what the hype was . The struggle was real with my hangover , but when I say the beef pho hits the spot , it HIT THE SPOT. Lets start with the pho. The pho was aromatic and Hot, none of that luke warm broth . It came with all the fixings of herbs, vegetables and condiments. Pho broth was savory and chocked full of flavor. The beef was raw and fresh and with all the condiments added, it fulfilled my pho cravings and helped remedy my hang over. Totally lived up to the hype . Pho Lyfe? More like Pho-Nominal! Being so close to my work and curiosity because Pho is my jam how could I not give this spot a try. Upon arrival I noticed 3 things, how clean this establishment is, the outgoing and friendly nature of the staff and the strong emphasis on social distancing and face coverings. As a first impression I was impressed ! So let's talk about Pho for a sec. The menu has something for everyone and with that being said I originally ordered the Ox tail soup but with no surprise they ran out, not mad about that as I should've arrived earlier. So I went for their spicy noodle soup and man was it good. BTW I ordered a large and took it out in one sitting. The broth was amazing good. It had recognizable flavors that weren't over bearing but enough to have a profile that made it out of bounds...ala Guy Fiery! There was generous amounts of meat amongst other things. The tendon was so good I want them to put an all tendon soup on the menu.lol! Seriously though! And get this, the noodles were a tad thinner than Udon but al dente like a perfect bowl of Italian noodles! It was a perfectly composed bowl of Pho. The soup had a good kick of heat and if you like it even hotter you can add in their house made chili. I feel sorry for some of the near by noodle spots as competition just entered your neighborhood.
