Pho Le sells more than just a good bowl of pho. Our table ordered the #33 pho (its like the typical #1 combo pho), pork and leek dumpling, and Pong Pong beef. Great choices all around! The pho. The broth was good. Wasn't overpowering with herbs or anything, really appreciated that. The meat quality was good but left me craving for more rare steak slices. The pho noodle was where these guys really stood out a bit. The quality of the noodle was great. It wasn't over or undercooked. Very chewy. Very big plus in my books. Add the chilli oil (not sriracha) on the side to the pho, it'll give it more spicy flavor. The pork and leek dumplings were pretty good with their dipping sauce. Comes with 12pcs per order. I definitely enjoy ordering leek over vegetables just because it gives a more unique flavor. Leek is a fairly strong flavor compared to the nappa cabbage vegetable selection. We have ordered take-out from here for many years and loved the food. I'm not sure if it's under new ownership but we were very disappointed with the food. We ordered Salt and pepper chicken wings but the dish consisted of battered pieces of chicken which were probably the same pieces they use for their orange chicken that we ordered. They were not the wing. The dumplings that we used to love now had a thicker dumpling skin and a funky tasting sauce. We ordered walnut prawns that were too salty. Overall, we ordered five dishes and none of them were like they used to be. The seasonings were definitely different than in the past and much saltier. I just had a noodle soup the night before at a different restaurant, so I opted for a rice plate this time. The food came out much later than both my friends got their pho (at different times too), and was quite disappointing. I would say it was not worth the price for two pieces of extremely greasy meat. Given its prime corner location at San Pablo and Gilman, this was definitely a percolating place on a particularly cold Friday evening, and the only table available was right next to the front door which when swung open, blows a Nor'easter that had to be experienced to be believed. He pointed to the subarctic table, and my fingers were getting frostbitten as I was perusing the menu. Luckily a young family vacated the neighboring formica table, and i sidled my derrière over. Di is such a nice person and always throws in free peanuts for us since we always order takeout! Their House Style Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, Pho Ga, and Pho Tai are all incredibly rich and delicious. Each of these soups comes with a generous portion of meat and noodles, along with the side veggies. Occasionally the broth can be a bit too salty, but it's pretty rare (I think my family and I have gone at least 2 times a month since they opened). The only thing that's sad is they don't do the cilantro sauce or five spice sauce for the Pho Ga, or the spring rolls anymore. I hope they get more business so they can afford to bring those back! I haven't tried any of their Chinese style food, but I am a big fan of their pho. We don't often go in, but it's always a pleasure to see Di and his family when we do. Been craving for pho for quite a awhile now and was anticipating on going to a spot a few miles down the road. Unfortunately they are closed on Wednesday so I had to find a spot to satisfy my cravings. After sitting in my car and yelling some spots I came to this spot "Pho Le". On the corner of Gilman and San Pablo Ave is the restaurant. There is no parking so you'll have to park on the local streets which is metered but not too bad at about a dollar per hour. Or you can park at a nearby retailer and take a walk. The restaurant is not that big with seating to maybe about 8-10 tables that seats 4. I was there for lunch so it was kinda busy but luckily I arrived before the crowd and got a seat fairly fast. However the food took awhile which was kinda strange as I ordered pho tai. Which I would assume is already prepped and easy. Oh well I wasn't in a rush but had to extend my parking meter from 40 mins to 90 mins. This place seems to serve pho and dumplings or a mix of Chinese cuisine alongside with the pho noodles. Menu was quite extensive but I don't care for that. I just wanted pho and be on my way. So after about 10 minutes my order was placed and after another 20 mins my order arrives and it looked very bare with little meat but as I was eating, there was plenty more under The noodles. That again was weird and strange as most places I've gone to eat pho has their rare slices of steak sitting on top of the noodles. As this one there was a few slices on top and the meat was pretty much fully cooked already. "Not good" thumbs down!!!!! I noticed the condiment tray was very minimal and asked for chili oil for my noodles but was told they ran out. I've noticed there was some on other tables so at least they could've grabbed one from. The pho was decent and could've used more flavor in the broth. Noodles was good and plenty as with the meat asides from being over cooked. But I can't complain as I was needing my fix and for trying a new place out. This place is clean and offered a wide variety of choices however if you're there during rush hours be ready to wait for a table and to place hour order and for your food. Wonderful. Everyone at work was talking about this place. I can see why. They serve wonderful pho (get the spicy beef) but have lots of other food. I didn't leave here feeling gross and fat either like I typically would after Chinese food. The food was good, service was good, definitely coming back. The waiter was this young man, he was attentive and was running the show. He did a great job even when it was slightly busy. He gave every customer the attention they needed and really catered to them and us. Food came out at an okay time, usually pho comes out super quick but maybe because we switched noodles it took a little long then we were used to. I thought the broth was great, I like to sip on the broth right when it comes out and then just add jalapenos to it and have the sauces on the side. If you run out of noodles or need more you can order extra for $2. Never had Pong pong chicken before, so I had to try it. The fried chicken here is amazing. Super crispy. The sauce reminded me of general tso with a hint of citrus. So I strong taste of general tso and slight blend of orange chicken. The batter stayed crispy the whole time we were there. Butter garlic wings were good too, my bf and his dad loved it. It's basically just a battered chicken wing seasoned lightly with salt and pepper but the crunch was moist chicken was so good. Definitely getting this again. We are probably going to order a party tray of this actually for the UFC fight this weekend. Prawns with honey glazed walnuts is a must too!! If you are a fan of honey walnut shrimp, you got to order this! The sauce is just right and the shrimp is superb. Vietnamese iced coffee, great, they used authentic stuff. Would order again. Just wished they had more. I felt like I took a few sips and it was gone. Love that the have chili oil here, someone mentioned it was amazinggggg, but it was just regular to me. Stopped by for an early dinner after shopping nearby, and I'm glad I checked this place out! There was only one other table because it was 5PM on a Sunday, so the waiter sat us and took our order quickly. There are a ton of items on this menu that spans Vietnamese and Chinese food, so you'll definitely find something I like. I ordered the beef stew ho fun #29, pong pong chicken wings, and my boyfriend ordered the #34 (essentially the everything pho). My noodles were delicious! I loved the wider noodles, the choy, and the beef chunks. They definitely don't skimp on the beef chunks. I do think the beef could've been a little bit more tender. The broth was really good too, but I think it'd be better with a little spice to it. I'd order this dish again. The chicken wings were bomb! They reminded me of San tung, but these pieces of chicken were bigger and juicer! They also had a very nice crispy texture to them. Sauce was delicious. Placed an order to go. They said it would be ready in 15-20 minutes and it was closer to 15 minutes. I came on Thursday around 7pm and the place was empty. I had no trouble getting metered street parking in front. I ordered a few items: pong pong chicken, garlic noodles with chicken, and beef ball with rice noodle pho. The pong pong chicken reminded me of the texture of orange chicken (sticky and sweet)- meat was soft and fell off the bone. The garlic noodle smelled amazing, the taste was just okay for me. As far as the pho, I've been to places where the broth was more flavorful but once I added the jalapeño and sauce, it was good to go. Overall 3/5 for food. The broccoli and bok choy were a bit over cooked and the broth was thickened (seemed odd to me) but the flavors were very good and the won tons were wonderful. The things we haven't liked as well are the Thai and Chinese-American dishes. The flavors don't seem balanced. A Thai salad I had on the first visit was so vinegary I couldn't eat it. Their Thai tea doesn't disappoint either. It's a little hole in the wall restaurant. The space fits a decent amount of people and is spacious enough that you won't be super close to other tables. It's very quiet though...could use a bit of music. The service is great too. The staff greets you upon entry, brings you water and menus right after you are seated, and checks up on you throughout your meal. Anyway, this place is great. I definitely recommend!
