I went down to Davis a few nights ago and my friend recommended coming here. This place has the best pho I've ever tasted between places in the bay area and Sacramento area. The broth was delicious, so was the meat and the noodles. Everything about it from start to finish was incredible. The food is so good here and I been coming here since 2018. But the cashier/waitress was had such a bad attitude and was rude, I'm a very respectful person and I hate complaining about employees knowing that I know days can be hard and overwhelming but I was nothing but polite. If she sees this I hope your day got better but please do not take your bad day one someone who did nothing wrong to you... with peace and love. Okay I'm not going to talk about the pho because honestly I would never come here to eat it...BUT what I do love here is the banh mi and avocado smoothie. This is my go to spot for whenever I want a quick meal on the go or if I'm near the north side of campus. I always get the grilled pork sandwich (~$5) which I think is an amazing value for the price since the sandwich is actually pretty big. The sauce and meat are both really good, and the baguette is crispy too! Pho king was the first place I ever had an avocado smoothie (sounds weird but it's so good), and they're the only place I've found (in Davis and the South Bay) that makes it CONSISTENTLY good. It's never too sweet, and it has a perfect amount of avocado flavor. The only downside is that sometimes their avocados aren't ripe so they don't offer it. They're also really good with phone orders to go, so call ahead if you already know what you want!! (4 stars because I don't like their pho and that's supposedly their specialty) read more

I ordered #23: Grilled Pork and Egg Roll over Small Vermicelli and instantly regretted it. The vermicelli was really hard to eat. It was really undercooked or they left out in the open for too long. The egg roll was nothing special, not worth the extra $1. The pork was a little dry and the portions were not that great. I finished eating all the pork and had like half of the bowl left of vermicelli and vegetables. I had to drench the bowl with the chili flakes to make up for the hard vermicelli, but even then, it was too hard to eat. I don't like to waste food, but after attempting to finish my food, I noticed a strand of hair in my food and was done. (Kind of hard to see in the picture) I would go here for the pho only when I'm hungover. Otherwise, this place really isn't that great. Review #028 - 2017 When my friend requested to meet up at a pho house that serves good bun bo hue, I immediately thought of Pho King in Oakland. Unfortunately, since he was driving from Sacramento, I wasn't sure where we could meet half-way and enjoy even a decent bowl of pho let alone bun bo hue. I started Yelping for a pho place that was somewhat a half-way point for us to meet up and somehow Pho King 4 magically showed up, I was pretty happy since I know that their Oakland location serves the best bun bo hue. However, I was quite sad to see that it was rated at just 3-star on Yelp. But I went ahead and told him that we would have to take our chances, since it was the only spot that I knew of that would be ok to try. We showed up around 5 PM on a Thursday evening and were seated immediately. The waitress was very friendly. She brought us our water and took our orders as soon as we were situated. We both ordered the bun bo hue and I ordered the three color dessert as well. The bun bo hue broth was good, although a little heavy on the MSG. The vermicelli noodles were undercooked so it was a little tough. They do not use pork hock here, sadly; but the veggies were very fresh. My biggest complaint would have to be the dessert because it didn't taste right. The coconut milk was really pasty. I've eaten here plenty of times over the years and usually it's just alright. Not amazing but there's not really any competition for pho in Davis so I only eat here when a friend brings me. I do enjoy the beef stew with egg noodle, grilled pork chop, and I like their egg rolls too. The pho and vermicelli I'm not a fan of. The prices are fair and what you'd expect to pay at a Vietnamese restaurant. Service really varies since they have cycle through new staff often. Very average pho. I guess they can get away with that since they're basically the only pho restaurant in town. The rare steak comes out almost fully cooked and is much tougher then typical pho restaurants. My boyfriend's bowl came out with a snap gnat fly on the rim though... The server must have been really oblivious or not care to not notice that when he was walking it over to us. Another server brought us a new one without hesitation though, so no real harm done. Their broth is some water with msg, their noodles are soggy and overcooked, the meat is similar to cardboard, then they toss a tiny bit of cilantro and onions on it. Their service is slow and forgetful. By the way this place is FLY INFESTED. The pho is okay, the bowls are small and prices are a dollar more than most Bay Area locations that serve better pho in bigger bowls. They don't serve basil with their pho which I found odd, but from other reviews, it looks like you have to request it. They also need to cook their noodles like 15 seconds longer or serve it in hotter broth so it actually softens up to the core. A group of us stopped by here for lunch on our way back to SF from Tahoe. Since we had a large group, we were seated upstairs where it was pretty empty and deserted. Of course, that means it was more difficult to flag down any type of service. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue (~$8 for small), which was more than enough for me. I ended up not even finishing all of my noodles. The noodle soup was like any other bun bo hue that I've had. The downfall was when they found one of our party's orders. Since his order was missing, he switched his order to orange chicken. I wouldn't recommend ordering a Chinese dish like orange chicken at a pho restaurant anyways, but let me reconfirm for you to NOT order the orange chicken at all costs. When it arrived, it did not even look appealing at all with a yellowish color. It was unedible and returned to the kitchen with the waiter even acknowledging the fact that it probably shouldn't even be on the menu. my experience: came here on a saturday afternoon with a table of 4 and we were seated right away. this place is not huge but it does the trick. it seemed a little old (and it's right next to all the new construction in downtown davis) since this is a college campus, there are many food options in downtown and this is the only pho place. as i grew up in the bay area, there are a lot of popular spots in san jose so my rating may be a little biased as i grew up with different pho (but this place is decent) food/price: i think for the price, you get what you order. they have 3 different sizes for the noodles. i know a lot of people aren't the biggest fan of this place but it is what you get here. i think that it's nice that they have options (menu is attached) so that you can find something for anyone. however, the food is just alright. i got a rice plate since i wasn't feeling the noodles but usually people get #1. i think that it is a place worth coming to if you're really craving pho but it isn't the type of place where people would rave about and wait for hours for. service: they check up on you once or twice but you pay in the front. they give you waters right as they seat you along with the menus. read more

The prices are good at this place near UC Davis and they have an extensive omni and vegan menu. But I wouldn't recommend the vegetarian pho I had. The broth just didn't have any flavor, one even veggie broths could have, nor did the seitan in the pho. I came here w/ my cuz on a recent trip to No CA. He goes to UC Davis, and this place is located just off campus. I normally take pics of everywhere I eat, but I didn't bother with this place. We ordered the chao gio and goi cuon to start. Both dishes were pretty mediocre. The nuoc mam for the chao gio was super weak. The same goes for the sauce for the goi cuon: 2 Stars. My cuz ordered the bun bo hue and I ordered the pork chops w/ rice. I tried the bun bo hue and the version at recently reviewed Ngu Binh in Westminster blows this version a-hue (away). I'm sorry, but you don't normally see bun bo hue at a pho joint: 2 Stars. When I finally received my dish (more on that later), I was disappointed. The pork chops were transparently thin, and did not have much flavor. The dish was accompanied by the same weak nuoc mam that the came w/ the cha gio: 2 Stars. The ambiance was pretty sterile: 3 Stars. On the other hand, the service was terrible. My food was given to another table and the waitress never came back to check on us. We had to ask the server and the owner/manager where my food was. The latter did comp us w/ lemonades. However, that action solely prevented me putting this place on my ATJAAC List - My One Star List. In addition, when you check out the cashier can't tell you how much the bill is before tax, so that you can tip appropriately. Maybe I shouldn't have tipped, but I believe wait staff are taxed as if they receive a 10% tip. If I didn't leave a tip, it would not have been cool: 2 Stars. You would think that there would be better Vietnamese food close to campus because the student body is 40% Azn. I come every time I'm desperate for pho, and every time, I regret it after the first bite. Environment: 2/5 It's average. The tables smell musty sometimes when their wash cloths aren't cleaned well enough. There are quite a few tables, both downstairs and upstairs, so I usually don't have to wait long. They also have a few TVs that they turn on during busy hours or when a sports game is on. Nothing special. Food: 1/5 If broth consists of just MSG and water, then these folks make an absolutely fantastic broth. The noodles are inconsistent. Some days, they make it perfectly chewy, but more often than not, it's too soft. There's a tolerable amount of meat, but they short change you on the noodles pretty hard, even when you order an XL. The amount they give here for an XL is about as much as Viet Ha in Sacramento gives in a regular (and this place charges $2-3 more too!) They're also quite stingy with the sprouts, basil, peppers, and lime until you ask for more. All in all, the pho here should be avoided by anyone who has a true appreciation for real pho. Service: 2/5 They're not especially friendly or quick. There's a $.20 charge for paying with a card if your total is less than $10. They're also really stingy with their food. Skip this place! Ok. Just are here a few minutes ago and I think this place deserve a 3.5 star. Not quite to 4 star but I dont see why this place isnt better than ther other Pho places in Davis. So I gave it a 4. It was their grand opening today so everyone get a free soda for the first 2 weeks! Yay! The place is simply designed and looked quite small to me (at least the on the bottom floor and I did not check 2nd floor). I was bombarded by waitresses when I arrived and after I sat down. I feel like they are a little over staffed. But they are friendly and they took my order within 1 minute of my arrival and got my free soda too :) I went ahead and got #1 like I would from any other Pho places even though I am not that hungry(I just want to see the size of the bowl). It appears that you can get XL on all the pho here (unlike some places where #1 is the only dish they offer in XL) The XL #1 came in a fair sized bowl (I will post a picture after writing this review. My first impression is that it has more beef balls compare to what other place offer, have decent amount of meat (there is never enough meat imo). As I was eating it, i do realized that they dont give you much tripe and tendons. The beef they serve were quite fatty (chunks of fat are connected to the beef, yum...) The soup was quite hot when it arrived in front of me (my glasses instantly steamed up) The noodle was cooked just right and not soggy at all. The bill came up to $8.03 for a XL #1 which I believe isn't too bad compare to places you find in Sac or Davis. $8.03 actually is not that bad compare to places that you eat in Davis in general. I was watching this one waitress clean the table and she took quite some time to clean it and she even use some kind of disinfection spray on the table. I finished my food with ease and I drank all the soup as well(i want to see if the soup have lots of MSG) I don't feel like the soup have much MSG since I am not thirsting for water right now but I think their soup lack some taste. Overall I would recommended this place if you are craving for some pho in Davis and i believe that this place is good enough for you pho cravers out there that don't want to drive to Sac or something for a bowl of pho. I came here today (8/12/15) a few minutes after they opened and left with quite a pho-king experience. The problem (0/5): Ok, here's some extra detail to give you the full picture: I was sitting at a table by myself staring out of the window to their outdoor seating area. A couple came in after me and happens to sit outside across from me, so I was making eye contact with the gentleman a few times, the door was also open (the door was right next to me). The story: A little after I got my food I heard screaming from the kitchen area. It sounded like 2 men were arguing, they were arguing so loud that the couple outside turned to see what was the problem. The guy mouths to me "what are they saying?" (the workers were arguing in Viet) and I mouthed back "I don't know". Pause, I would like to say that just because I'm Asian doesn't mean I speak all the Asian languages, unpause. One man storms out of the kitchen and then I proceed to hear the other man and a woman arguing. They eventually stop but dang did it really set my experience in stone. The pho (2/5): I ordered a large chicken pho (number 14 I believe) and when it came I was hit with the smell of cinnamon! I know there's clovers and such in the soup, and I've had pho before, but never have I ever smelled cinnamon from my broth. How fun. What wasn't fun though was the tiny bit of bean sprouts, limes, etc. that they give you--this place also doesn't give you cilantro on the side and the little bit that is in the soup is laughable. I only got ONE slice of lime! I did ask for more and the waitress brought me another plate of items, added together it was roughly the amount I'm used to from pho places. The broth was just alright, I've had much better but I've also had a little worse. I ended up having to add fish sauce and sriracha INTO the soup to make it taste better--but once again, I've had worse. The chicken that came with the soup was the worst! It was super tough and I didn't get any dark meat pieces, I ended up leaving over half of the meat in my bowl because I was sick of eating it. Also, the chicken came in shredded pieces rather than slices that I'm normally used to from pho places. The sandwich (2.5/5): I bought a pork bbq viet sandwich because I knew I would be in the library all day (study break!) and wanted something to eat later on. It cost me 4.5$ and is one of the most dried up sandwiches I've ever had. The bread is hard, they didn't put jalapenos inside my sandwich & there's just a lack of veg/picked items in general. BOOOO Service (3.5/5): There was only one female waitress when I went in today, and there was only about 3 tables worth of people so it definitely wasn't busy. She did everything that I expect a waitress to do, not rude and was fairly quick when it came to bringing me my water and such. This is the only pho place that exist in Davis unfortunately.. So desperate times call for desperate measure when you're craving a hot bowl of pho in the winter. Before anything, I do want to express my appreciation for this place for serving pho in Davis. Here goes, Their pho is very generic, it taste like how most pho should be. Though.. Their price is off the roof! A generic bowl of pho would cost me $6 or $7 max. They charge almost $9 here and their portion is not even that big. It's really the only pho place in Davis, but it's decent enough for me to be a regular if I want to grab pho real quick. The service is pretty fluid: they'll have you seated real quick and have your meals out in a decent amount of time. For their pho, I would say that the pho bowls don't leave much to the imagination. There will be your rice noodles, some white onions (although not much of it), some green onions, and your choice of meat that you ordered. It's been a few years so I decided to give them another try since the hubs had a hankering for pho and, unfortunately, Viet food options are sorely limited in Davis. We were greeted promptly and the gal seating us was friendly, offering us a high chair as we had baby in tow. She also took our order, and things were off to a good start. A few quick minutes later, an older man approached our table with the pho. I caught a glimpse of my bowl as he placed it in front of me and was happy since I was specific about what I wanted. Next thing I knew, the tray with raw meat and veggie accoutrements started tipping off the table toward the high chair. Luckily, baby was in daddy's arms, but my mommy reflexes caught the tray anyway and held it steady on the table. Whew, crisis averted. The man transferring my husband's pho, on the other hand, managed to splash HOT pho broth all over my husband's arm... You know, the one holding the baby. Thank god baby wasn't harmed. The ground floor was full so they brought us to the second floor and forgot about us for 20+ minutes. We had to go downstairs to have them take our order. When they gave us water, the cup was only half full..... The food is decent but not spectacular. Service is clearly subpar, so definitely would not recommend for viet food in downtown Davis. read more

Worst customer service ever !!! Service wasn't good since the beginning. We got the sweet and sour chicken, with no chicken... we asked if we can get more chicken but the server said no they can't do anything about it. The interaction then escalated to the point where the server called the cops on us because we didn't want to "pay" and he felt "threatened." Worst experience ever! Never have I felt this humiliated by a restaurant. read more
