Okay I'm not going to talk about the pho because honestly I would never come here to eat it...BUT what I do love here is the banh mi and avocado smoothie. This is my go to spot for whenever I want a quick meal on the go or if I'm near the north side of campus. I always get the grilled pork sandwich (~$5) which I think is an amazing value for the price since the sandwich is actually pretty big. The sauce and meat are both really good, and the baguette is crispy too! Pho king was the first place I ever had an avocado smoothie (sounds weird but it's so good), and they're the only place I've found (in Davis and the South Bay) that makes it CONSISTENTLY good. It's never too sweet, and it has a perfect amount of avocado flavor. The only downside is that sometimes their avocados aren't ripe so they don't offer it. I ordered #23: Grilled Pork and Egg Roll over Small Vermicelli and instantly regretted it. The vermicelli was really hard to eat. It was really undercooked or they left out in the open for too long. The egg roll was nothing special, not worth the extra $1. The pork was a little dry and the portions were not that great. I finished eating all the pork and had like half of the bowl left of vermicelli and vegetables. I had to drench the bowl with the chili flakes to make up for the hard vermicelli, but even then, it was too hard to eat. I don't like to waste food, but after attempting to finish my food, I noticed a strand of hair in my food and was done. Review #028 - 2017 When my friend requested to meet up at a pho house that serves good bun bo hue, I immediately thought of Pho King in Oakland. Unfortunately, since he was driving from Sacramento, I wasn't sure where we could meet half-way and enjoy even a decent bowl of pho let alone bun bo hue. I started Yelping for a pho place that was somewhat a half-way point for us to meet up and somehow Pho King 4 magically showed up, I was pretty happy since I know that their Oakland location serves the best bun bo hue. However, I was quite sad to see that it was rated at just 3-star on Yelp. But I went ahead and told him that we would have to take our chances, since it was the only spot that I knew of that would be ok to try. We showed up around 5 PM on a Thursday evening and were seated immediately. The waitress was very friendly. She brought us our water and took our orders as soon as we were situated. We both ordered the bun bo hue and I ordered the three color dessert as well. The bun bo hue broth was good, although a little heavy on the MSG. The vermicelli noodles were undercooked so it was a little tough. They do not use pork hock here, sadly; but the veggies were very fresh. My biggest complaint would have to be the dessert because it didn't taste right. The coconut milk was really pasty. I've eaten here plenty of times over the years and usually it's just alright. Not amazing but there's not really any competition for pho in Davis so I only eat here when a friend brings me. I do enjoy the beef stew with egg noodle, grilled pork chop, and I like their egg rolls too. The pho and vermicelli I'm not a fan of. The prices are fair and what you'd expect to pay at a Vietnamese restaurant. Service really varies since they have cycle through new staff often. A group of us stopped by here for lunch on our way back to SF from Tahoe. Since we had a large group, we were seated upstairs where it was pretty empty and deserted. I ended up not even finishing all of my noodles. The noodle soup was like any other bun bo hue that I've had. The downfall was when they found one of our party's orders. Since his order was missing, he switched his order to orange chicken. I wouldn't recommend ordering a Chinese dish like orange chicken at a pho restaurant anyways, but let me reconfirm for you to NOT order the orange chicken at all costs. When it arrived, it did not even look appealing at all with a yellowish color. my experience: came here on a saturday afternoon with a table of 4 and we were seated right away. this place is not huge but it does the trick. it seemed a little old (and it's right next to all the new construction in downtown davis) since this is a college campus, there are many food options in downtown and this is the only pho place. as i grew up in the bay area, there are a lot of popular spots in san jose so my rating may be a little biased as i grew up with different pho (but this place is decent) food/price: i think for the price, you get what you order. they have 3 different sizes for the noodles. i know a lot of people aren't the biggest fan of this place but it is what you get here. i think that it's nice that they have options (menu is attached) so that you can find something for anyone. however, the food is just alright. i got a rice plate since i wasn't feeling the noodles but usually people get #1. i think that it is a place worth coming to if you're really craving pho but it isn't the type of place where people would rave about and wait for hours for. service: they check up on you once or twice but you pay in the front. they give you waters right as they seat you along with the menus. read more

I used to live extremely close to Little Saigon so I have had some super authentic vietnamese pho....which makes it so hard to rate other places. I live really close to Pho King 4 and I tend to crave viet food a lot so I come here pretty regularly. It is good for the craving but always lacks a little something. The broth is decent although it has a little too much salt and not enough depth. The service is consistently a little slow here from what I've experienced. The quality of service will also depend on your server. I've had super sweet people service me, as well as extremely passive people. Parking is a little difficult in direct proximity to the restaurant as there is a lot of permit restriction. Try parking DT and walking! The store has ample seating so its good if you're coming with lots of people. The store is fairly clean. I've done takeout here multiple times also. Oh man...where to start. 1. The service was non-existent. We were seated abruptly by a man rushing to the back and then 5 minutes later a woman passed by and asked "oh did someone just seat you and forget about you?" Unbelievable. It's been a few years so I decided to give them another try since the hubs had a hankering for pho and, unfortunately, Viet food options are sorely limited in Davis. We were greeted promptly and the gal seating us was friendly, offering us a high chair as we had baby in tow. She also took our order, and things were off to a good start. A few quick minutes later, an older man approached our table with the pho. I caught a glimpse of my bowl as he placed it in front of me and was happy since I was specific about what I wanted. Next thing I knew, the tray with raw meat and veggie accoutrements started tipping off the table toward the high chair. Second time trying this place, and from the moment I walked in, I literally had to walk around to find someone to host me. I was with a party of 4 and we got sat down very quickly considering the place was more than half empty. Our host, a young man, appeared as if he was working there by force or like as if he was held in captivity. Horrible display of customer service, treating us like we weren't even human. I'd say the worst part of this visit was the fact that the place was a literal walk in freezer. It was so cold in there that it almost felt inhumane that they were willing to sit customers down. Wow, this place went down hill. Came here on the way back from a Cabin trip in Tahoe. One of my friends claims he has been here over 200 times back when they were opened. After our meal, he said he would never come back. His simple order - BBH with pho noodles - was too hard for the servers to understand.
