Bun cha. Tastes great but a lot of work.
Dee K.

Great service, great food, reasonable prices. We might have a new favorite Vietnamese restaurant.

Bun Bo Hue + Bone In Short Rib
Rachel L.

What a lovely family owned spot! I came with two friends and we shared one pho, one bun bo hue, an appetizer, bo ne, and three drinks. The pho broth was so clean; definitely more of a northern taste with plenty of herbs. The bun bo hue was delicious! We got the bone in short rib and it was actually so tender I highly recommend. We got the Bo Ne as well, which looked like it got overcooked to medium well, but it was super juicy and tender. The pate and tomato sauce went amazing with the fries on the side. One thing about this spot is they cook their beef so well! The garlic butter chicken wings had a great aroma but were a bit on the drier side in my opinion. Good flavor though. Smashed avocado and iced milk latte were very good but the avoacado smoothie was lacking sugar for sure. The manager told us they've been open for over a year but business has been slow, so I hope they gain more traction. If you're reading this and craving pho, stray away from your regular spot and try this place out! You won't be disappointed!

Great place!

Such a great place. The owner's are so nice and helpful. The restaurant and bathrooms are super clean. I ordered Bun Bo Hue with a short rib. It was the best ever. The dish of vegetables was very fresh and huge. They have sauces and garlic on the tables. I will be going back.

They were having a grand opening so my bf and I stopped by since we were close by looking at the fishing gear stuff that was close to them. The menu looks extensive with their classic pho dishes, bowl dishes, etc. originally I wanted their BBH but they told me they didn't have it yet and to come back. Honestly, I'm so glad I got their pho bc their broth was helllaaa good. It tasted so good, and I got it with their fresh thick noodles! Brisket was high quality and my bf really loved it. Service was friendly and they even stopped by to ask how the plates were. Usually the pho places doesn't usually ask lol. Anyways, I'm excited to come back to try their BBH!

This was my first time visiting with my friend, and it was a nice surprise. The seafood noodle dish was delicious I forgot the name, but I really enjoyed it. The beef pho was okay. I like that they have karaoke and allow customers to sing, which makes the atmosphere fun. I enjoyed the music while eating. The service was friendly and helpful, and the environment was welcoming. I'll definitely come back and would recommend others to try this places

Food, Quality, Service is amazing Don't need to overhaul with words. Definitely a must check out

Place I think is very good quality wise that I would normally rate this a 4/5 but there's just so many small nitpicking that drops them down to a 3/5. Bo Ne - 3/5 Came only with mushrooms, fries, some thin slab of "prime rib" and a side of lettuce+onions+tomatoes so overall the combo was really weird. I was thinking it'd come standard with a baguette or some rice. Prime rib I think came out half tender half tough so not sure if leaving it as a big giant slab of meat was the best idea for this. Fries were pretty unseasoned, there was like 0 sauce on the plate so flavor wise, was only on the meat itself. Pate, more sauce, and baguette probably would have rounded this out. Pho - ?/5 Did not have but honestly the presentation and color of the broth made it seem very high quality. It came with lots of meat as well which is always a plus. "Wagyu" Bo Luc Lac - ?/5 Also only slightly tried this; love the char and tenderness but realistically this is overpriced and they'd be better off going off to some "cheaper" meat and making that tender and it'd basically be the same thing. Cleanliness - 1/5 I think I saw a dead bug in all of their ginger jars. Service - 4/5 Pretty attentive for a viet restaurant; even with the owner coming out and explaining dishes. Overall a very quality-forward place; but they still need to work out some of the dishes and the place itself.

I had a great first experience at Pho John! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and felt very welcome. Since we arrived before the rush, we were the only ones there, which meant we got excellent attention from the staff. Our server was super helpful and gave us some great recommendations. I ordered the P1. Phở Sườn Bò Cắt Vuông Đặc Biệt ($18.25) and the A2. Chả Giò ($14.25). * The Pho: The broth was flavorful and they are generous with the meat and veggies. My only small disappointment was that my bowl was missing the tripe. However, the staff checked on us multiple times and even brought out extra lemon wedges when I asked! * The Egg Rolls: These were perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The restaurant is very clean and inviting. Before we left, the staff told us about their Karaoke Nights (Thursday-Sunday) and even encouraged us to sing! It sounds like a blast, and we definitely plan on coming back to experience the music.

Happy hour discount from their website.

Every time we came here it hasn't been busy and I think people are really sleeping on this place. We're ordered a variety of dishes on the menu at different visits and everything is seasoned well, the waitstaff is friendly. I'm taking one star off because they advertise a 25% off Happy Hour discount on their website but don't honor it in the restaurant, which is not a good business practice. The owner should either take that off the website or honor what they advertise.

Bun cha Ha Noi
Toni L.

We were unlucky as we went on a day that they sold out of Pho at 2PM. It's still beyond me how a Pho House sold out of Pho, so we wanted to leave and go to Pho Đang across the street as they are our Fav, but got sold to must try their famous Bun Cha Ha Noi. it's was light and delicate , missing a smokiness of the grilled flavor but it light enough that you can drink the sauce. Owner and staff are friendly, but not much else I could say since we didn't get to eat what we came for. Perhaps a sign on the door to say Pho sold out so we don't need to come in. I feel bad for the group that came in after they would sit them and gave them menu and later told them no Pho, now that they sat down they actual got sold just like us...was that the best Bun Cha Ha Noi we ever eaten, the answer is No but would I come back ? probably yes , and for sure now that I must since I still need to try their Pho. Hopefully we can update with more star after:

Tiger prawn noodles

Everything was amazing at Pho John! The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out perfect. We ordered the chicken pho, tiger prawn noodles, and spring rolls... every dish was delicious. The broth in the pho was so rich and comforting, the tiger prawn noodles were packed with flavor, and the spring rolls were fresh. Great service and great atmosphere too. Definitely coming back again!

Second time here based off the boss's recommendation, got the b7. Truly the best pho spot in sj, have had many many pho spots, but this takes the cake. Broth is so garlicky and amazing

Yummy pungent pickled garlic

A perfect bowl of pho means that I do not feel like adding condiments to except the mint, sprouts, jalapenos, and lime juice. Living in the bay area all my life, unfortunately, that's a huge rarity. But Pho John passed the test. Excellent, flavorful bowl of Pho with all the fixings, served up by an incredibly welcoming staff. Healthy portions of tender brisket, beef balls, tendon, you-name-it, it had it, brought together by a wonderfully seasoned both. You must be insane to open a pho place in the south bay in 2025 with all the competition, but this bowl of pho I had spoke to the confidence they have in the quality of their food. First off, the waitress Yen asked me whether I wanted my bean sprouts blanched first.... what? No pho shop ever asked me that question. Big green flag. Doing this removed some extra gaminess from the bean sprouts that I usually don't like while also keeping the bowl nice and hot and preserving the texture. Second green flag was the northern-style fresh wide noodles that were a joy to chew on. Awesome texture. Third green flag was the pickled garlic condiment that blew my mind. A perfect contrasting pungency that took the great bowl of pho over the top. This is a family-run restaurant that clearly cares about differentiating itself through its quality, thoughtfulness, and customer service. So so happy to find Pho John and can't wait to go back with friends and family.

I loved having that extra variety to switch up the flavors throughout the meal. Yummmm. The Bun Cha Ha Noi comes in either a small ($28) or large ($47). Our server told us the small would be enough for two people, so that's what we ordered. When it arrived, it was a huge plate filled with fresh vegetables, noodles, and meat. Bonus: it also came with rice paper!!! I immediately loved this place even more. Since my boyfriend doesn't eat much of the herbs and vegetables, we went through the noodles and meat pretty quickly while sharing. I can definitely see how the small could feed two people if you're using all of the veggies, herbs, noodles and rice paper to make wraps. For us, though, we could've easily handled the large! We ended up ordering the chicken wings with garlic fish sauce afterward, and they were over. Wasn't a big fan but we finished it. Next time, we'll definitely be ordering the large Bun Cha platter and hopefully bringing more people with us so we can try more of their extensive menu!

"I TOLD YOU ABOUT THAT PLACE!!"…read more To be honest, I had no idea that my well intended text to tell one of my best friends about my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in SJ would trigger such a response from her. While she might think otherwise, I genuinely had no recollection of her apparently telling me about this place all of those years ago! Regardless, though, in the end, the joke is clearly on me because it took me so long to come here a couple of years ago. However, evidenced by the number of dishes I've ended up trying here, I'd like to think I've made up for some of that lost time! Even though they aren't far off or hidden away, it feels like Thien Long is easy to overlook, especially given how congested their complex can get. Yet, despite how busy their parking lot can get, the restaurant itself is surprisingly large, as they have a bunch of tables for groups large or small (we've never had to wait). What's more, the menu here is AWESOME. Beyond just the normal slate of appetizers, pho, noodle soups, rice plates, and vermicelli bowls, it also has a terrific selection of specialties and entrees that aren't super common. In particular, their signature Bun Cha Ca La Vong is something I've only seen at a handful of places (and pricier ones, at that). -- (#A2) CHA GIO - Fried Vietnamese Egg Rolls...$6 Probably the least impressive thing I've had here, but it was still perfectly fine. While the portion felt a little light, the filling tasted okay, the egg roll was crispy, and I liked that it wasn't all that oily. -- (#17) PHO GA DAI - Rice Noodle Soup w/ Chicken Meat and Organs...$17.95 (large) I don't know if me being sick had anything to do with it, but this really hit the spot. The soup felt so warm and homely and I love how there was a good balance and amount of chicken and noodles. -- (#31) BUN CHA HANOI - BBQ Pork & Pork Patties with Thin Noodles...$17.95 I've been on the hunt for a version of this as good as my go-to spot's in SF that closed and this is easily the best I've found so far. The pork patties are really juicy and I liked the bit of char on the BBQ pork. Plus, they sure didn't skimp on the amount of leaves or meat. -- (#36A & #36B) THIT BO XAO HANH HUONG CUON BANH TRANG (Thien Long Stir Fried Beef & Onions) & BUN CHA CA LA VONG (Grilled Fish) with Thin Noodles, Vegetables, and Rice Paper...$35.95 We saw another table get a half & half order and knew we had to do the same to try both. While the slices of beef were good, the "grilled" (fried) fish was the absolute star. Each piece was lightly breaded, well seasoned with turmeric, and very flakey. -- (#3) PHO CHIN, NAM, GAU, GAN - Rice Noodle Soup with Well Done Brisket, Flank, Plate, and Tendon...$17.50 (large) This may not have been the best I've had, but this isn't far behind. The broth is beefy and rich, yet not that fatty/greasy, and I love how the bowl came loaded with a balanced ratio of meats to noodles. -- (#32) BUN CHA CA THIT NUONG - Grilled Fish, BBQ Pork, and Vegetables with Thin Noodles...$18.95 Essentially the combination of two of my favorite Vietnamese dishes anywhere, which is perfect for when I can't decide on what to get. The only things missing are the Pork Patties and the rice paper, but you can't have it all. -- (#56B) COM TAM DAC BIET - Pork Chop, Shredded Pork, Fried Shrimp Cake, and Steamed Egg Loaf with Broken Rice...$18.95 This wasn't the best one I've had, but it's definitely up there. The Pork Chop was really flavorful, the Shrimp Cake was crispy, the Egg Loaf was super thick, and I love how they gave a side of soup, which a lot of places don't typically do. Along with how delicious the food is, the other thing that I like about Thien Long is the service. Not only are all of the workers and servers really nice, but they're surprisingly attentive. Plus, the restaurant always looks and feels so clean! The only thing about Thien Long that I hate, besides the parking and how far away they are from me (I'd come here far more than I should if they were closer), is how they've essentially set an impossible standard for most pho joints to match. Really, they all just seem so basic now that I know how much more I can get here, both in terms of taste and menu options. Over the years, I've been more than happy to make the drive down here and I'm more than happy to keep doing it to get my fix of my Vietnamese favorites. Which is really something these days considering how gas is currently $eleventy dollars a gallon (#pain).

The staff greeted us warmly and provided friendly service throughout our meal. I ordered the rare beef pho, which was fine but fairly average in flavor. The mung bean tempura was also really interesting, it sort of looked and tasted like a muffin. The standout dish was the egg rolls. They arrived hot, golden brown, and perfectly crisp, with a satisfying crunch and a flavorful filling that made them the best part of the meal. I noticed cobwebs that appeared to have been hanging in place for a long time, along with dirt and grime collecting in corners throughout the dining room. Even the menus felt sticky, with a visible film of grease and small food particles still clinging to them. The faded print and worn condition made them look as though they hadn't been replaced in years. Those details created an impression of neglect that made it difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. With a thorough deep cleaning and some updated menus, this restaurant could create a much more welcoming dining experience. Until then, the cleanliness issues overshadow what was otherwise an average meal.
