Just exploring the different phov places in the area and came across this one. Parking is available, but the spaces were a bit odd angled. There's ample seating in the restaurant, which was good... As always I picked a house special, wife picked a dry vermicelli bowl. This one has barbecue pork and spring rolls. Portions were decent and flavoring was okay. I'd say that was probably better than the soup ones. The noodles was nice for the house special but the broth was overly salty. Food and service was okay overall.. but price is slightly higher than places like Thai son or lotus, which imo are just better. read more

Good pho... bad sandwich. Pho was huge and tasty. Sandwich... huge chunks of deep fried tofu and disproportionate... very gross actually. Long strands of cilantro stems... where are the leaves . The place was busy so they obviously have some good dishes... but they need to work on that vegetarian sandwich. Maybe go check out Obanhmi on Kingsway to see how a proper vegetarian Bahn mi is made. We are slowly working our way through a list of restaurants that were referenced in the newspaper as places that local chefs like to patronize when they go out for dinner. There are a few Vietnamese restaurants on the list. Pho Japolo is straight up traditional Vietnamese cuisine. We don't know anything better on a cold winter evening than a big hit bowl of Pho. The broth for the Pho had a depth of flavours - we could not put our finger on the spice combo but it did taste subtly different and very tasty. This is definitely a place we would like to go back to so that we can try different menu items. The salad roll was a very nice appetizer. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. I think they have a lot of regular customers and this is well earned. read more

Try the Cambodian style soup noodles. Very different from the usual meat broth. Even better with a bit of spicy. If you don't like cilantro, better skip this one. The minced pork patty was so flavourful! Best on vermicelli and rice. Can't wait to go back for more. read more

Ok so I eat a lot of pho what can I say. I find Pho Japolo to be unique in that their broth is something special. I can only speculate, but it could be they char and caramelize the ginger and onions a little longer than most, or they use more bones, or they have a different spice that isn't common for most phos or all of the above? I really don't know but the end result is a beefy deep bone broth flavour that is uncommon in most pho's I have had. The noodles are good texture and the meat ratio is good. This is my go to pho in this neck of the woods. Give it a try. read more

Ate the pork and chicken rice, chicken was good but pork was very dry :( had the deep fried shrimp spring rolls for appy, not bad :) mango smoothie was very rich and not sweet sweet! Nice! Decided to come with my friend after Home Depot shopping. It was around 4pm and the place was quite. Pretty clean place. The server was very nice and told us about the special which was written on the board. We had the pho noodle soup with eye round steak, fatty brisket, soft tendon and beef tripe, Spicy pho noodle, beef shank, beef flank and pork ham, chicken wings and a mango smoothy. The regular soup was very tasty and lots of meat and i didn't get thirsty after drinking the soup. Spicy pho was ok but i found the soup too sour. Chicken wings was not very good, not much taste and looks different from the picture on the menu, not recommended. Mango smoothy was the best!! Nice, thick and rich. They uses fresh mango. Came here for lunch today, wanted to try the other neighbouring pho options in the area. Ordered my usual pho tai. Broth was decent, but I found the edges of the meat rather tough. What was actually tougher was the piece of lime. Had to squeeze the life out of it to get some of its juicy goodness. Service is prompt, accepts credit card, and restaurant seems fairly big so finding space shouldn't be too big of a problem. Only downside is that the parking lot could be better and not have so many spaces reserved for Scotiabank. Overall nothing superbly special, but satisfies my pho cravings and I haven't gotten the runs. Might be back in the future to try some of the other dishes. read more

Been a regular here for a bit, mainly because its the only Pho restaurant around the Bridgeport area. Pho noodle soup is pretty standard, the rice and vermicelli dishes are large and filling. A little more expensive than your average vietnamese restaurant (especially the vietnamese subs) If you're doing take out for a rice dish, ask them for the larger container of fish sauce that usually comes with vermicelli dishes. Overall, a decent choice if you're stuck in the Richmond Bridgeport area. read more

Came here for lunch because it's close to my work. Parking can be a pain since they share the lot with Scotiabank which takes up most of the reserved spots. I had the small beef balls pho - good flavourful broth with a fair serving of balls :) We shared the spring rolls, they don't have the extra crispy skin that I like but the filling is pretty tasty. For the area, it's either here or Lotus (Lotus has more parking). I'd say they're both on par, maybe with Pho Japolo inching slightly out in front because I find their broth is more "cleaner" tasting. read more

Pretty decent Pho place considering the area is pretty limited in restaurants. As usual the first thing I do when trying a new Pho restaurant is try their form of Pho Dat Biet. Needless to say, this place was pretty decent, although I wasn't too 'gun hoo' with their pricing on their Large Pho Dat Biet at $11. Overall, a pretty decent place with their sit anywhere philosophy and food. I'll probably be back to visit when I find myself in this area again. Update (October, 22, 2016): So I've come back multiple times to try out their other dishes, mainly the Roll Combo $7.95 and the Grilled Chicken and Shrimp rice dish. Neither of them blew me away, the peanut sauce for the rolls was kinda watery and the rice dish that had the shrimp tasted burnt (maybe cause they grilled the shrimp plain without flavor). Location: We were from out of town, hungry and family was hoping for noodles, my wife spotted it, so Pho Japolo it is!! While Richmond, BC seems to be sort of a Chinatown area, the downside was that this entire area was a home improvement center. Home Depot, carpeting, tile, marble, plumbing, bricks non-stop for miles. So there were not too many places to eat here. It was late afternoon so we took a chance. Venue: Simple shop that was pleasant and nicer than the average Pho shops that we frequent. Lots of tables and they have waiter/waitress service. They have printed menus and everything has a number. Food: I went for a Bánh Mì with grilled tofu. They call it a Vietnamese 'sub sandwich'. Doesn't matter because it was good and flavorful. Not the best I've ever eaten but I can recommend it. Wife went for #11 Beef with tendon and tripe. She liked it but admitted she liked our regular pho shop (Saigon Noodle in Kaneohe) much better. Since she was in the mood for noodles and starving she was pleased. Daughter got a vermicelli bowl with marinated chicken. #72. She liked it. She also tried a Vietnamese iced coffee. She liked it too. Reasonable prices. Service: Pleasant and efficient and they take credit cards. My wife asked one waitress, sensing she was not strong with English, for 'bamboo chopsticks' instead of the plastic kind. The waitress had never heard this term and couldn't get over it. I don't know what that was all about but it was okay. Just because you are stuck in a Vancouver pho shop...there is a big world out there. Rating: 3.5 Stars, rounding up, as this wasn't bad at all. Standard Vietnam place in terms of deco but the beef noodle is excellent. Soup base is best I hv tried in Canada and may be Hong Kong. Beef is good and noodle is what it Shd be. Best place in Richmond for pho! I always get the pho dac biet (it's not on the menu, you have to ask for it). Getting a bit pricey though, esp. compared to Vancouver ($8.35 to $9.45 a bowl!). I work in the neighborhood and there's not really any viet places nearby, pho japolo does a good job of fulfilling those cravings. I haven't ever dined in and have only ordered takeout so I can't speak to their service much. They serve the takeout pho piping hot so it still burns my tongue by the time I get back to my office (about 5 mins away), and that's a good thing! The broth wasn't as flavourful as some other pho joints in town but it's not MSG city either. I've also ordered subs from here and the pork/ham one is great! Very well balanced so that it's not overwhelmed by cilantro or carrots etc., they don't toast the bread here but I'm guessing you can ask for it. I actually don't like toasted bread that much as it just makes a mess so I'm okay with that. At $5 it's about average but it's a good alternative to all the fast food sandwich/burger joints in the area. I was surprised by the quality of the food. Pleasantly surprised rather. I ordered the grilled lemongrass chicken and rice. Delicious, moist, grilled properly. They also gave me a bowl of clear broth which was tasty. I asked for some extra sauce that comes with the meal and that wasn't an issue. The price is actually on point for the food and portion. Be clear at first, it was a take-out that I had. I ordered the classic pho noodle with soup. It came with three bags - the soup, veg, and the noodle with loads of meat. At first, I was really impressed by the neatness of the packaging and the amount of meat given, but as I give everything... I spit out more food than I actually ate. The meat came in cooked with just a little pinkness, but it had a strong fishy taste. The noodle was kind of hard even when soaked in the soup, so I was mostly eating a ball of noodle. Great little pho restaurant for a quick bite to eat during lunch hour. Service is decent and food is fast. Cheap little place to get something to eat during lunch but otherwise nothing special. Same as others explained, found a long black hair in my Pho. I have short hair. Lady replaced it. Also, didn't offer the standard condiment and service was below par - especially the young woman that works there - 18/20 years old - who was rude and dismissive.
