#34 Vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and spring roll
    Sara A.

This is practically my go-to for vermicelli bowls. I normally order #34 grilled pork with spring rolls. The meat is always well-marinated and spring rolls are crispy and tasty. Since I like to drench my vermicelli in fish sauce, I often ask for extra sauce whether I eat in or for my take-out. The other dishes I would recommend are: 1) #43 Pork chop and fried egg on rice - nice charbroiled meat. Always very fulfilling 2) #18 Special combination pork with rice noodles in soup - an amazing non-beef option. The soup is flavourful and it is definitely a comfort food style noodle soup in my world BTW, there also offer a 10% discount every Tuesday - cash only!

Another Vietnamese food in this corner of the city. Yay! (the place opened 9 August 2013, according to the waitress) Parking is available in the nice large strip mall lot in front. The interior is nice and shiny and new - just like an upscale Chinese restaurant. Right down to the baller chandeliers in the ceiling. Yes, chandeliers. The nice ones too. You'd almost think you were living in Beauty and the Beast land. Lighting is nice and bright. The place looks really clean. It's scary. The BBH is fairly decent. The layer of chili oil covers the entire surface of the bowl. Onions didn't seem too fresh - they were not as crisp as I would've liked. The bean sprout toppings come pre-cooked here, which makes life easier.

Wanted to try something different for dinner last week so my friend and i decided to try out this Vietnamese restaurant. This restaurant always include a small plate of bean sprouts as an appetizer which is nice. I noticed that most of the patrons inside were eating the pho soup bowls for dinner. Today I wanted to try something different so I tried #44 on the menu which was "Grilled lemongrass pork chops, shredded pork with a fried egg on steamed broken rice." It's not bad at all! The pork chops could use a little more seasoning so I dipped it in the sauce that was meant for the bean sprouts and it tasted better. I didn't like the taste of the diced shredded pork though. But I liked that it came with a small bowl of soup to finish off the meal. My friend ordered #1 on the menu which was "House special combination beef in rice noodle soup." He liked it. It comes with beef beef slices, tripe, and meat balls. The tea that we were given was noticeably better tasting compared to other casual Asian restaurants. Prices are quite reasonable here hovering around $10 per dish. On top of that, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that all menu items are 10% off on Tuesdays. The staff at the counter is pretty friendly and smiles which is nice. The dining area and the washrooms are big, clean, and modern. This branch is a little while out of the way in terms of location at the edge of Granville Street close to yvr airport. I will most likely visit one of the other locations around Vancouver in the future because of this. Overall, it's not bad at all! Most people who like to eat casual Vietnamese foods will enjoy it here.

Finally a local pho place near the new apartment that's actually open past 8:30pm. We shared the shrimp and pork salad rolls and a small bowl of pho each - he had the house special and I had the bin bo hua. I was pleasantly surprised at just how much goodness was crammed into everything we ordered. So much meat! Incredibly tasty but cash only and worth it.

    All fat

I specifically asked for leaner peices of beef and the server said "yeah yeah sure." What I got was 90 percent beef fat. I paid 15 bucks for a bunch of fat. Those chunks In the picture are all pieces of fat. Look at the gigantic chunk on the left. Discusting. Also, when I placed my order over the phone, the server never mentioned about the cash only policy which really sucked as there were no cash machines near by. Also, there were items missing from my order- "All served with fresh bean sprouts, basil, hot peppers & lemon." None of those were included. So the service was terrible and they screwed up my order, but the main reason I'll never return to Thai Son is simply that their food is not good. Stay away!

Arrived around 845pm ordered my food and only received my appetizer about 10 mins later, then sat around for a about 25 to 35 mins and still didn't get my bowl yet? Got up and asked, and they had forgotten because they were probably more focused on the time it closed at 10pm Still paid my bill, but I won't be going here anymore!

I'm a big fan of Thai Son so when I found out they had opened up a new location in Marpole I knew I had to go. I don't usually like ordering BBH from the other Thai Son locations because I know they're not known for the BBH. However, I felt compelled to get it due to "My BBH Journey". As expected, the BBH from this Thai Son was not a mindblowing experience. However, I looked around and the lemongrass chicken rice dishes that people had ordered seemed just as delicious as their other locations. Would I come back to this particular Thai Son location again? Most likely not. Yes, it's super clean and yes there's a huge parking lot but the location sucks (IMHO) so I'll stick to Richmond or the one by Main st. * important note * it's a huge pain in the butt to get to if you're coming from Richmond.

rare beef and beef ball pho

My brother told me this place was too good to be true so today after church I went with my mom and sister. This place is impressively clean and the natural sunlight creates such a peaceful and home-like vibe. We ordered a bowl of #1 (the special) and #15 (rare beef and beef balls) pho. The soup was a little bland but other than that the pho was great! It's a pain to drive from Richmond but if I'm ever around the Marpole area I will definitely return.

No 15 Raw Beef and Beef Balls Pho.. Tons of beef for a small noodle..

This is a newer restaurant from the chain off Marine Drive, if you are driving from Vancouver to Richmond, you will not miss it. We ordered Spring Rolls Grilled Lemon Grass Chicken with Broken Rice Beef Ball and Rare Beef Pho Typical items you would order from a Vietnamese Restaurant. Nothing special and the broken rice its just stickier rice. Lots of Beef for the small noodle. The Spring Rolls looked squish but it tasted ok. Average soup stock with MSG so be warned. The wait staff was efficient and lots of parking.

The space is much nicer, with high ceilings and lots of light - great looking bistro. I ended up trying the following: - Mussels: Very good. Classic dish, but I really like the use of cream in the broth. - Bánh Mì Cay Hải Phòng (Spicy Baguette Sticks): Good. A nice little snack, although it would be easy to recreate at home. - Lamb Chops: Very good. Cooked just right, and the pepper sauce added extra flavour. - Fried Frog Legs: Very good. This was probably the surprise dish for me. They weren't just the legs, but the entire bottom of the frog, so the pieces were huge. The garlic, butter and chili flakes gave it a extra punch. I really enjoyed this one. - Pho Bo: Good. Not the best pho I've had, but it's good enough to stand on it's own. Service was quite good. Very cheerful and quite attentive. Overall a nice meal. It's a great space, the food is solid, and service to match. What I really like is having the variety of both French and Vietnamese dishes, without either of them suffering in quality. Only downside is that is it expensive for what you get.

The menu isnt big but they do have a reasonable selection of items but mostly dinner entrees We ordered a mini version of pho bo (beef broth pho), french escargot and the spicy baguette stick. The bone broth was good and the price for the mini version is good for a light lunch. We both enjoyed the spicy baguette stick with the pork pate. A pleasant surprise. However i find the escargot a bit pricey with the quantity and the way it was prepared. Slightly too oily to my personal prefence The iced vietnamese coffee we ordered tasted similar to a regular iced coffee, missing the sweet condensed milk flavor for a vietnamese coffee

My wife and I stopped in for dinner one evening and each ordered the aforementioned noodle soup--she got a small ($11.75 plus tax) and I got a regular ($12.75 plus tax). We also got an order of salad rolls ($7.50 plus tax), which comes with 2 rolls. The rolls came quite late. They were pretty standard, coming with fried tofu, vermicelli, and lettuce. The peanut dipping sauce was on the liquidy, salty soy sauce side of things -- I wish it were creamier and less salty. 3/5 The soups were decent. The broth was peppery, with some nice, gentle spices detectable in there. I asked for a side of chili oil, which helped amplify the broth. You get a generous portion of noodles, fried tofu, and vegetables (broccoli, bok choy, carrot). Unfortunately the veggies were quite overcooked -- the broccoli was almost soggy, so were the carrots and bok choy. 3/5 All in all, middle-of-the-road veggie pho. The broth is pleasant. The veggies were overcooked, but plentiful and nicely chosen. Decent place for veggie pho.
