As a person growing up eating cơm tấm in its motherland, I am picky with what is in the plate, especially the fish sauce. Pho An Nam was the first and only place that I can find the closest taste for Sai Gon broken rice (cơm tấm Sài Gòn) so far. The rich flavor and juiciness of the grilled pork brighten up the whole dish. I chose spicy fish sauce to rizzle on the steamy hot broken rice then mixed it up with shredded pork skin and egg meat loaf. You can tell if it is truly cơm tấm Sài Gòn when the fried egg is crispy on the bottom. Having a spoon full of broken rice and a bit of everything I mentioned above is an explosion of flavor. Our family are long term customers at Pho An Nam. They not only are a place for my cơm sườn bì chả but give us a friendly neighbour feeling. We go there, warmly greeted by the staffs, have a little chit chat with them about work and family back home, get my favorite meal then go home with a full stomach and a big smile on our faces. read more

Tasty pho place in the middle of Richmond. Thanks to Pamela C. for showing me the light, um, pho. Parking is available in a dumpy lot behind the building. There aren't too many spaces, and the lot is shared with the restaurant next door. The inside is surprisingly modern, with wooden furniture and TVs. Everything felt relatively clean too. Staff were friendly. The pho here is pretty solid. Nice clear broth, and fresh meat. Onions and green bits on top. This really hit the spot for me. Lastly, in case one is wondering, meatless pho broth is still made with cows. So delicious. I will be back at some point. Recommended. read more

Attended this restaurant because I was craving for Vietnamese spring rolls and since this is the most convenient place to go to. I went around 2:00PM after the lunch rush was over. The place is clean, toilet is clean except there's a slight smell of canal which is why they have an air purifier inside and the service is good. However, I forgot the name of the item I wanted to order aside from the spring rolls and that was the Bun Bu Hue. I don't know how that soup taste like in this resto. Anyway, I find that the Combo 2 which is their Special PHO soup of mixed beef, one spring roll and Vietnamese coffee is just mediocre compared to the one I go to at SE Marine Drive. There has been no reviews of this restaurant since 2022. For convenience sake, this is apparently better of the two Vietnamese restaurants in this area for me. read more

Okay, so here's the deal. I've been coming here for years now and they've constantly been great. They added new items in the menu and went vegetarian-friendly. I think this is a progressive addition to the menu. However, they raised their prices, quantity went down while the quality stayed the same. My bowl of pho barely had any noodles in it!!! One of the most consistently delicious pho spots in Richmond. We eat a lot of pho and this place is a staple. The grilled options are also tasty as well as their deep fried calamari and chicken wings. If you're feeling like pho but want a slight twist, definitely try number 30 with the sate broth. It's slightly spicier and more rich due to the additions of chilies, coconut milk and peanuts. It's pretty hard to find decent pho in Richmond so we were happy to find this place. The pho broth has good flavors and the portion size is alright. They do charge Downtown prices though - $10 for pho! But if I have a pho craving and don't want to pay for gas to drive out of Richmond, I'm glad we have Pho An Nam. I also tried their Lemongrass Pork Chop and Chicken on Rice. Stay away from the Pork Chop, tastes like re-heated frozen Pork Chop and neither hubby or I wanted to finish it. Large size Assorted beef noodles in soup.. can't believe it got 1 pc of thin slice beef tendon, 1 beef ball, 3 thin slices of over cooked and chewy beef, 2 thin slices of beef brisket and 1 strip of Cow cypress with small portion of flat noodles in extremely sweet soup base... Salty lemonade with soda... they put way too much sugar on bottom, too less salty lemon, not worth for $4. Deep fried chicken wings... extremely dried, overcooked, chewy and tasteless Ice coffee with milk... taste like cheap McDonald's coffee They didnt give us any bowl, while serving wings, we need to wave them for 5 minutes to get us some. Less than 4 tables of customers @ 1 pm lunch time, most of customers are caucasian, not much Asian go there. The servers were extremely rude, always busy chatting with co workers. This is actually my favourite Vietnamese restaurant so far. I'm tempted to give them 5 stars, but it's "not" a five star dining experience. I love their beef ball soup noodles. So delicious. And I find the price and portions are pretty darn good too. For $1 extra you can get yourself a large bowl of noodle. I absolutely love their Vietnamese ice coffee... Soooo good. However, I'm not a fan of their rainbow ice, but I think that's more of a personal preference thing. Anyways...their fried spring roll and lemon chicken grass rice needs some work. First off, service is not friendly and nor is it attentive. No refills of water and forgetting items that come with the combos. Also forgetting some meat with my pho. The beef broth which is the base of the pho was super duper salty (doused with a lot of msg) Probably the saltiest I've ever had. The beef came in small and chewy bites. The chicken pho was better, however limited meat was given. The spring rolls, meh definitely had better. Overall I would not come back again because of the service and the pho. There is an abundance of free parking at the back, which is always a plus! The outside looked quite dingy, but we were surprised how clean and nice the interior was for a pho shop. Hardwood flooring was also an interesting touch for a restaurant. All three of us ended up getting the same noodle soup, which was the An Nam Special Mixed Beef with Rice Noodle Soup (or Pho Dac Biet). We all got a bowl of small, and it's a tad pricey at $8 compared to other pho spots. The bowl of noodles was also noticeably small. However, the broth was delicious and we all agreed it is one of the top in Richmond. It's interesting to note that they put a lot of pepper on the top, but I didn't mind it. Needless to say that, I went to get the large pho dac biet.
