Last time I ate here was 5 years ago and even then I wasn't impressed. Since then it has changed ownership so I wanted to give it another try and sadly I won't be back. We ordered the bun bo hue dat biet (comes with a sad pork hock) and hu tieu nam vang. The bun bo hue is on the sweeter side which threw me off as typically it should have a more savory, hearty taste. The hu tieu was decent but could have been a little more generous with the meat portion itself. The thing I like about this place is they serve a decent variety of Vietnamese soup dishes. My go to is the bun Bo hue. They have all the cuts of meat I like including pork blood cubes. I do wish they gave you shrimp paste on the side. Instead I think it's partially mixed in with the sate chili stuff they bring you. I also wish they gave you basil with it. Had the beef vermicelli bowl today. I have to admit, I wasn't the biggest fan of the taste and texture of the beef. I am much more partial to beef that has a really tender texture, this was more chewy and not as appetizing to me. My dining partner also ordered spring rolls with very (VERY) specific instructions that I am allergic to shrimp. Like ER room allergic. I also emphasized this and we both felt they clearly understood that one has just pork and one has pork and shrimp. Guess what I got? Pork (with shrimp under the pork!). And you know how one place is really good, is when you find a lot Vietnamese people. I guess Vietnamese fathers love Vietnamese food! And my old man was craving for a crispy pan fried flat noodles with beef, that has not met his standards yet. A somewhat rare dish, and places have failed in crispness, or seasoning. Well, we got a winner! If you want that crispness (pan burnt pieces because that's what is wanted) and yet the softness of silky flat noodles, with a savory seasoning and sweetness of veggies, than this is it! Highly recommended! Now, their traditional BO LUC LAC is a MUST, too! Their beef was so soft and tasty! But the absolute winner....is... Tatum tadum.... Salt and Pepper Shrimp! Guaranteed, better than other places that tried for sure! We had 2 orders, and oh it was gone in a flash, as we were all picking from it. I really like this place, I had the Pho Dac Biet - their "everything but the kitchen sink" pho : rib eye round steak, well-done flank, beef balls, marbled brisket, soft tendons and beef tripe. (đặc biệt means "special" so one place that has this name may be completely different from another place, just a heads up) I've never had soft tendons so I was a little confused when I first had this. If you're an all-meat kinda guy or gal then I suggest perhaps one of the other options :) nevertheless the broth was of good quality and the meat was delicious. The second time I came here I had the Ap Chào, since I saw so many reviews about it. It was good but I've never had it before so I didn't know what to compare it to but it was tasty and I will try it again! (I had the one with chicken, beef and shrimp) The third time I came here I got the bún măng vịt (some kind of duck noodle soup) - but I didn't expect it to be with bones - Tony checked up on me to make sure I was doing okay haha I think he could tell it was my first time eating that dish, but it was still delicious! One of the best Hu Tieu Ap Chao in Austin. It's definitely the cry crunchiest but the noodles are broken into small pieces. Very large portion though ($16) although I suppose you're paying for it. Uniquely to other places, it comes with a sweet, soy, tangy dipping sauce that I ended up using quote a bit. Then their Bo Luc Lac Shaken Beef is not that bad. They're cut the thickest. I came across this gem when a friend asked if I wanted to try it out. She said there was something on the menu she hadn't seen before called Ap Chao and that got me interested. Walking in, it looks like a typical Vietnamese restaurant. When you see a large Viet party in the back, which I later found out to be regulars, and also Viet people at the other tables, that's a good sign this place should be pretty legit. My usual go-to order here is the seafood or combination Ap Chao or thr Bun Bo Hue. Ap Chao is like a pan-crisped flat rice noodle stir fried with veggies and meat of your choice. It's not fully crispy so you get crunch mixed with regular rice noodle kind of texture. It's hard to explain but it's damn gooood. Not many viet restaurants have this dish and even some of my viet friends didn't even know what it was. The Bun Bo Hue is very flavorful and has all the usual ingredients. What I wish it also had was the pork blood, but I also haven't tried asking for it yet to see if they have it. I'll have to try that next time. I continue to bring people here mainly for the Ap Chao and it has never disappointed. Portions are big and bellies are happy. read more

Pho Ha Noi is going to be one of my top go-to viet places now! i can't believe it took me so long to try it! i was drawn in from the photos of the Ap Chao i saw--there was a local viet restaurant near home in my hometown that my family would frequent that would serve ap chao as well, but it sadly closed down some years back. So i was really excited that they had this dish, and it did not disappoint! They serve the ap chao extra crispy and not too sauce-y; they include a sauce on the side. This allows the noodles to stay crunchy and not get soggy. The ratio of the veggies to meat to noodles was really good!! Plenty of carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, and bean sprouts to make me feel like i'm having a decently balanced meal haha. And they are super generous with the portions here too! So delicious! We also got the pho here--pho was a little heavier on the noodles, but still really good. Their broth has some sweetness to it, which i enjoyed. And their regular bowl felt like a large lol. There's a bunch of other dishes on their menu that i want to try that most pho places don't serve, so i'll definitely be back for more! But the thing that stands out the most about this establishment is their warm, welcoming service and thoughtful employees! When we walked in, we went towards a close table, but since it was a very cold/windy day today, the host offered to seat us farther from the door. This is definitely an authentic Vietnamese restaurant. We were recommended to try this place out for their bun bo hue so that's exactly what we ordered. It did not disappoint! The broth was flavorful and the perfect consistency. Every piece meat was cooked perfectly. The portion itself was filling. The only call out I had was that it was missing the pork blood but even without the pork blood, the dish was absolutely delicious. Another added bonus about this place was that they give out full on water bottles when you ask for water with no extra charge! Next time I come back and I'm for sure coming back, I might check out their bo luc lac. It's one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes back home and I want to see how well this place makes it. read more

I called the restaurant and a female voice person answered the call who stated they do not deliver food and I have to come in to pick it up. Explained to the lady their website indicated they deliver, however she insisted they don't deliver and I have to come pick it up. I asked the lady to cancel my order, but keep insisting that I should pick it up because I paid it already. I told her I have a flight to catch and I cannot pick it up, never listened and I got a notification the food was delivered 3.5 hrs after when I'm already in the plane. No! Super authentic little Viet place! The menu was quite extensive - so many different options and so many types of each option. For an indecisive person like me, decisions are hard. I ended up with the Crispy Noodles wjth shrimp. I have never had crispy noodles before but it was a great meal. The nododles once soaked in gravy become soft - gives me upscale classy version of ramen. The dish can with shrimp and mushrooms and carrots as broccoli! This Vietnamese restaurant is only a block away from the popular Pho Saigon, but has what many have said Austin's golden standard of pan fried rice noodles. They serve an assortment of noodle dishes as well as drinks, which is a brilliant idea as I always get a sweet craving after noodle soup. But eyes on the prize, I skipped the pho section and honed in on the fried rice noodles. I ordered the Ap Chao Combo, consisting of veggies, chicken, beef, and shrimp, all piled on top of a bed of fried noodles. Let me tell you, this plate is massive. In addition to the high quantity of food, the flavors were powerful and I definitely had to take some home. The vegetables were cooked nicely and the meat was tasty. My favorites being the shrimp and how the flavor of the mushrooms compliments the dish. But the noodles. Even though they were covered in delicious sweet sauce, the noodles were super crispy and had such a satisfying crunch. A great ratio of crispy noodles encasing more soft noodles inside. These are seriously addicting. Just hand me a plate of these noodles as a snack, and I'll give you money for it. Oh and the leftovers? They were really good the day after as well. Listen Vinny, and all you people giving this place a bad review for 1. slow service 2. lack of english servers 3. supposed msg in the soup...... please go eat at the white washed pho places, literally, all over town, lacking in authenticity and flavor. Now, if you want something legitimate this place and it's bun bo hue is incredible. I think some people are mistaking the "old meat" for the style of meat that is often used in Bun Bo Hue. It taste a bit cured and that's totally part of the dish. Some people say it has msg and I think they aren't familiar with mam tom (aka. shrimp paste) which is also in their sate. And for all you people out there knocking MSG, it's a naturally occurring compound, most concentrated in Tomatoes (that's why we love it so much.) And yes, there's alot of it in mam tom. But let me tell you how else this bun bo hue is so good: I know when a place is good by their huyet (blood sausage) and this was fresh! The broth was clear and delicious. I could smell the lemon grass and the numerous other flavors that go into Bun Bo Hue. I also have to say that they do not skimp on vegetables. They give you a TON of bean sprouts and thai basil, and thinly sliced cabbage. Exactly how it should be eaten, and they dont charge extra. THAT'S good service people. Please don't give a bad review for excellent food. I realize we live in America, but no authentic good Vietnamese food will have good service, that's just the way it works. so... just be patient. Came at the recommendation of a Viet friend and it was decent for Austin. Not the best, but definitely would visit again. It has a good selection of the dishes you would find growing up Viet. It is one of 2 places in town I've found with a decent Ap Chao (deep fried flat noodle option). It has a large amount of seating too so large groups are good. While I was there, I saw many people grab food to go so maybe their take out service is really good. Everything else is okay. Pho is on the sweeter side so if you're not into that, don't get it! Bun bo hue is okay. There are way better options in town for this. Hu tieu xao (flat noodle stir fry) is one of the better things here. Drinks are bomb if you grew up drinking them or are accustomed to the taste. I highly recommend the chanh muoi (salted lemonade). Good pricing as well. Over all a solid option. read more
