Located in the plaza right next to tsun scoops (so if you're there for an offkai or an event, it's just a 5 minute walk over without crossing the street) or, better yet, it's in the same plaza as Oc & Lau and Bake & Che, so it gets super busy and fisted, but it's a large enough plaza with plenty of parking. After Sakurin's birthday event at tsunscoops, my friends and I walked over here to grab some dinner and we were seated immediately on a Sunday evening, but we just got there right before the dinner rush as right afterwards all of the tables were taken, a large party came in, and there was definitely a wait. Quite a popular restaurant and that's saying a lot since there's a lot of competition in the area with the Viet population. Ambiance is lively and bustling. Really cute that they have a free basil sprig you can adopt and take home and it comes in that glass bottle with care directions. The bowls on the wall are a fun design concept and even more fun is how the pho is served to you. It comes in a 3 tier system with the bottom layer being your pho, the middle layer being all of your veggies (bean sprouts, lime, basil, jalapenos, culantro, mint), and the topmost layer is your Sriracha and Hoisin sauce. I've never seen pho served like this before. Super novel and fun. Also neat is that you can get either Southern or Northern style pho and not many places do this (at least not in the 626, so this is an OC win, I suppose) and I like that their menu does a side by side comparison of the differences. I'm a traditional person and I usually order the same type of pho bowl to see if it squares up to what I grew up with so I got the Southern style pho, Pho Tia Chin, or their pho with grass fed eye round and brisket. Generous amount of broth and noodles, decent amount of protein. Meat quality is alright too, not the super tender brisket that you get elsewhere, but it wasn't too tough or chewy like the lower quality pho places. Broth had a rich flavor to it, nice beef bone flavor with herbs and spices undertones. Overall not bad. It did get so busy towards the tail end of our meal, so it got a bit difficult to flag down a worker. I really like the concept of this restaurant, the display of fresh basil leaves in a bottle and their unique three-tier stacked bowl presentation for the Pho. It looks so new, creative, and cute! However, I think their Pho still needs some improvement. I tried both the North and South Pho, and unfortunately, both lacked the depth and strength of Pho flavor I was expecting. The broth was simply not flavorful enough, especially the Southern Pho. South Pho was the bigger disappointment for me. The small, thin noodles were overcooked and became very soft and soggy. Anyway, the flavor is ok, but it is overpriced, small sized, meat not cooked right, and overall experience just not good, in a city that has so much to offer, this does not cut it. Was in the area and friends wanted to meet up to grab a bite and this place popped up on my Yelp. The stellar reviewed drew my attention and decided to give this place a try. (Also the nice modern decor). There's ample parking in a huge plaza with lots of other popular choices as all the spots I saw had long lines. They serve both northern style and southern style pho and took me a long minute to figure out the difference and realized I'm used to the southern pho and decided to order #7 northern pho special with side order of oxtail and am so happy I decided to give it a try. For starters their pho felt more like art than food. The attention to detail from the bowl of pho on the bottom to the condiment plate connected on top to the sauce plate on the very top. Also this is the first pho place that has grass fed beef and their soup is amazing. I also ordered a side of oxtail which was pretty good. And because I had my toddler with me, she got a free kid bowl of pho. Overall: service amazing, pho amazing im a fan :) the service was really above and beyond. Had my doubts about an aesthetic social media vibe pho restaurant but it hits the spot! We had to try the northern style pho since they described it as having more of a spice flavor. I haven't tried their southern style to compare, but the broth is a deep and rich/spiced broth. I highly recommend the flat noodles since they're super soft and melts in your mouth. Meat is not fatty and is plentiful unlike some pho places and you won't be disappointed. We live near a couple of pho restaurants but will usually go out of our way to come to this one! My boyfriend and I ordered the cha gio egg roll appetizer ($9) and we each got the #5 pho tai chin northern style ($15.00). They put a little glass bottle of water on your table with mint sprigs that you can take home!! You better believe I took it home lol. Food was ready fast. The egg rolls were the ones with typical golden wrapper (not the rice paper ones which are my favorite) and they were a bit on the smaller side. They also only provided a small amount of mint and 3 small flower shaped cut out pickled radishes and 3 of the same for carrots. A bit disappointing that there wasn't more veg because I love adding it but the egg rolls themselves were super flavorful and had large chunks of shrimp inside. The pho was served in a big fancy ceramic container with matching bowl plates stacked on top that contained veg (bean sprouts, jalapeños, limes) and sauce (sriracha and hoisin). You could definitely tell the soup was different than the typical southern style. More spices and very savory! I poured half of my sauce inside and dipped the meat and noodles into the remaining sauce. There was so much meat! We were able to finish everything but were stuffed. It's also an okay option if you're looking for late-night pho, since they're open until 12 AM. That said, there are definitely better pho options in the area also open until 12 AM. But even then, as we were walking to the bathroom, he passive-aggressively asked if we were done using the table and if he could clean it. The tone made it sound like he was annoyed with us, which honestly made the whole situation more uncomfortable than it needed to be. I understand wanting to clean the table, but there was really no need to make it so obvious that we were being rushed out or confront us about it. Overall, I think this is a decent option if you're already in the plaza and want something late at night, but with so many pho options in this area, I don't think this would be my first choice. Was craving northern style pho after my Vietnam trip so I found this place. I came early in the morning so there wasn't much of a wait. I ordered the northern style pho and surprising it's very different than what I imagined. In Vietnam, northern pho has sliced beef with only green onions, while the broth is pretty clear and light. Based on their menu explaining south vs north, I think they might have northern and southern style backwards. The Northern style pho here is darker in color, deeper flavor, and fattier compared to Vietnam. The place has chic decor and you get a fresh basil stem on a vase to take home. We got seafood eggrolls to start and the northern special and northern brisket with meatball. Seafood Eggrolls- The eggrolls are fried to perfection so you get a lovely crisp outside. Inside it's packed with ground pork, shrimp, crabmeat, mushrooms, and vermicelli. It is absolutely flavorful! Northern Special- Northern style pho has a rich, fatty broth that is delicious. This dish is loaded with a variety of meat: tendon, tripe, brisket, meatball, and fatty flank. Very filling! Comes with a side of bean sprouts and a lime wedge added to taste. Northern Brisket with Meatball- Cannot talk enough about how delicious the broth is. Lots of flavor and herbs. Definitely need to do an update for this because since my last review, I have been back again this year few months back and they have been my go-to for pho currently! This is the only location I go to, and everyone here is super nice and funny! Service is very attentive! I usually phone in my orders and pick up. I think they are good dine-in (store) but taste even better when I get it and reheat at home over stove top! The flavor def hits the spot. My favs are the Pho Bac Dac Biet and Pho Back Filet Mignon!
