Came here for the first time with and we loved it! It's a close second place to my favorite pho spot though. I had a large rare steak pho with some tripe and he had beef and broccoli and white rice. He said although the rice wasn't all that great, the beef and broccoli was super delish. My soup was very good, the broth was well made and the service was excellent. It was suggested to us that Pho Dakao in Downtown Framingham was an excellent choice. Loving all types of Asian food we decided to try Vietnamese cuisine. And yes, it was EVERYTHING we were told it would be. It was excellent. I knew the restaurant when it was another and the owners of Pho Dakao have redone a formerly seedy place into something SO nice, visually appealing and with scrumptious food to boot. It was delectable. We got there at 5:30 and by 6:30 it was nearly filled. Word is getting around how wonderful this restaurant is. I HIGHLY recommend it. The service was fine and it seemed the food was not precooked but cooked fresh to order. If you have an allergy to anything they ask you to tell them so I did. I cannot eat MSG. They do not use it IF you ask them not to. The food was SO tasty that one did not need MSG. I highly recommend this restaurant and consider Framingham lucky to have it! read more

My mother and I visited Pho Dakao yesterday, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Located in Framingham center, the decor is clean and tasteful, without being too stuffy or fancy. We were seated and soon after greeted by a beast of a man (and I mean that in the best way possible), who I can only assume is the Steve to which Leila A. referred in her review. He was polite, attentive, friendly, and did not hesitate to do what he could to make our visit enjoyable. We started with the fresh summer rolls. They were tasty, although I could do with a bit more pork in there. The peanut sauce is a must. I had a Thai iced tea, and my only criticism was that it was too sweet... it was almost like one of those blue cotton candy popsicles you get at the supermarket. My mum ordered the Mongolian sizzling beef for her entree. It was delicious, well-seasoned/marinated, and the sizzling plate on which it was served browned the pieces of beef that came into contact with it wonderfully. While ordering, I was torn between my two go-tos for evaluating Vietnamese restaurants - pho dac biet and the bbq pork chop rice plate. I asked Steve for his recommendation and he suggested the chicken sauteed with curry sauce because he had eaten it every day for weeks, and offered the insight that it had more vegetables and would be the healthier option compared to the rice plate. I took him up on his suggestion and was pleased, to say the very least. I probably negated any benefit of getting all those vegetables by devouring the entire thing, and then nibbling on what my mum was taking home. So the food was great, but I want to take another moment to recognize our server, Steve, for being attentive, polite, friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating, without overdoing it. He was great at his job, and the direct opposite to the poor service reviews that this place has received from other Yelp users. Management is lucky to have him. Give this man a raise, he deserves it. I will be returning to get my fix for pho at some point when the weather gets cooler or if I'm hungover or feeling like I'm coming down with something. read more

Hello! I ordered take-out on 10/24/15, which included an appetizer of beef teriyaki and one of chicken teriyaki...for the "seemingly good" price of 5.50 each. This, by mental comparison to other Asian restaurants, seemed like a good price for what I expected to be a normal sized order of 5-6 pieces. When we got home, I opened both to see just TWO pieces in each Styrofoam lidded tray. TWO stingy pieces!! WHAT A RIPOFF !! I TRULY FEEL CHEATED !!! ADDITIONALLY...THE # OF PIECES IN AN ORDER IS NOT ON THE MENU TO HELP ONE MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHETHER IT TRULY WAS...A GOOD PRICE OR NOT !!!. How convenient. Been a long time since I've had Pho, and Pho Dakao was spot on. The apps (summer rolls) were OK, a little chewier than I like. The vermicelli with crispy pork was awesome. Everything was very fresh and cooked perfectly, so the whole bowl was easy on the eyes and as good as it looked. Parking is a bit tricky, but otherwise I will look forward to coming back. read more

If youre looking for a great, authentic noodle shop I recommend Pho Sure or Noodle City. If your looking for a great case of food poisoning make sure you stop by Pho Dakao. For an appetizer, we ordered the crab rangoon. There's something really unique about these crab rangoons that really help it stand out from other restaurant's ; that being that the appetizer and it's sauce reeked of vinegar. The smell was so potent it smothered any appetite I had left. Then I ordered the Spicy Beef Udon and every single piece of "beef" was more of a fat cap, jiggling at me whenever I tried to eat the rubbery dog food chunk with chopsticks. The Udon noodles tasted and felt like they sat for days until disgustingly overcooked; gummy to the touch. The noodles came with just beef and broth ; to add vegtables cost 4 dollars. That honestly was way too steep for a few mushy zucchini and bell pepper slivers. As a man who proudly calls himself a member of the clean plate club; I must be honest and admit I couldn't bare more than a few bites of that babyfood. about 30 minutes later it seems my body couldn't handle it much either as I suffered indegestion and dirrhea all night following my brief meal at this restaurant. My family and I were in Framingham midday and decided to try Pho Dakao. It was raining, and just after 1:30 when we got to the restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised to see the restaurant had a good crowd. We ordered four bowls of the Pho Dac Biet, and I asked for mine to come without tripe. We also ordered two thai ice teas, one fresh coconut juice, and a soda for me. While we waited for our food, I noticed that there seemed to only be two people working in the front: our waitress and a woman working at the bar. To say that they were understaffed would be an understatement. When we first sat down, a table of 8 were just leaving next to us. The entire time we were in the restaurant their table never got cleaned/cleared. After the food arrived, I made a point to take a trip to the restroom to get a good look at the rest of the room. I counted 14 tables and booths with customers, all being served by the one waitress. To be fair, I think she was trying very hard, but she was simply not able to keep up with the room. When we sat down, there were only two setups on the table. After she delivered the food, we realized we were missing napkins and utensils for two of us, and had to wait to get her attention to get them. As for the food itself, none of us were very happy with our soup. For some reason, because I asked for no tripe in my soup, I seemingly got a totally different broth than the other three bowls at the table. Theirs was brown and translucent, mine came out whitish and cloudy. Traditional Pho Dac Biet is served with rare slices of beef that cook in your bowl after it is delivered to your table. In all four of the bowls we got, the meat was fully cooked and greyish when it first arrived at our table. My concerns with this are that either the bowls were made properly in the kitchen but then took too long to get to us, or that the bowls were made up with fully cooked meat. Regardless, none of the broth had a very complex flavor, and seemed to be missing the characteristic depth of pho broth cooked for hours with bone marrow in it. To make matters worse, we all ordered XL size portions, but the bowls seems to have disproportionately more noodles and less meat. In short, we were very disappointed in the soup. The two thai iced teas were clearly made from a concentrate, and were either made in a rush or the person that made them is not used to doing it. They did not get finished. They were very dark in color and tasted like bubblegum. I did not eat my soup and asked for the waitress to take it off the check and bring me the manager. The manager declined to come talk to me, but they did remove my meal from the check. I suspect that maybe we caught Dakao on an off day, both in terms of food quality and staffing. However, with much better options for pho in Worcester to the West and the Boston area to the east, I can't think of any reason we would be back. I also did not see any Vietnamese people eating in the restaurant, and that's something of an indicator in and of itself. read more

This is a convenient, high quality Pho restaurant. There is more chicken in the Pho Ga than most people can eat in one meal, and I was able to add shrimp as well for a few dollars. The beer is cold and they have live music on Friday nights. I would definitely recommend for any Pho lovers in the Metrowest. read more

So yesterday I took an old friend to Hopkinton State Park, where I couldn't really do much with my Windsurfer because of the fact that the parking lots were full, and the whole park was pretty much a mob scene...so we stayed five minutes and came to this place to fill our empty stomachs...We ordered the Seafood Noodle soup and the Shrimp Salad and Grilled Shrimp, which actually ended up just being deep fried and battered to the annoyance of my friend. But the food was pretty good and prices were about what they should be I guess, but for Framingham, especially downtown, it might seem a bit pricier than it should be. This place is OK. They have decent Pho. However, nothing from this place is from Vietnam except the food LOL. My husband and I had Pho and Vietnamese fried rice for dinner. It was good, more that what we expected. I think their Pho is good,compare to other places we went, so does the fried rice. Definitely would come back. We frequent Pho Dakao for take out and eat in. Vietnamese food is amazing and we were extremely excited when this place opened so close to home a few years ago. We have never been disappointed by any of the menu selections we have had. Our favorite dishes (besides the Pho) are the vermicelli bowls, rice plates (both Thai fried rice and Vietnamese), crispy spring rolls and the Crepe. I have also tried the sweet and sour chicken and a few of the curry dishes. All just as delicious. The servers/bartenders are all very nice. read more

The summer rolls were smaller than most places, which is actually a good thing since they don't fill you up as much. I got the special pho and it was very good, but I could have used some more brisket in it. The decor was clean and the service was decent. I love me some pho soup! For years, I had hoped that Pho Pasteur would open a metrowest outpost and I could get a to-go for when my family was in soup mood. Now we have Pho Dakao!! We usually start with some fresh summer rolls that come with the yummy hoisin/peanut sauce. I was sad that it was watered down on my last visit and that is why I need to give 4 stars. I like to support local businesses and Pho Dakao gives back to the community. The also have a bar you can get a cocktail with your meal. Comfortable seating and the occasionally have live music. I have been going here since it opened. The food is excellent but over the years the prices have become to high and the portions have shrunk. It was once a very reasonably priced place, Now $15.40 for wide noodles and chicken? This is under $10 at Pho Pasteur in Boston and the portion there is large enough for 2 AND it is the best VN food in the state. Service was excellent when we recently went and the food very good. I love this place and so happy that they opened a vietnamese restaurant in framingham. I'm here at least once a week since they open. The food is delicious, however the service is very slow so I normally order take outs. I love their sweet and sour soup, huge portion! And the shrimp papaya salad is just mouthwatering. I've been here several times and enjoyed every main dish. The pho is excellent, several of the stir-fry dishes I've tried are also excellent. I took off one star for the chicken satay appetizer, which I found extremely fatty and not enjoyable. Service was somewhat mixed at the outset but I find it improving as time goes on. Note that they don't always have all dishes listed on the menu - that doesn't bother me at a small local place but some people might be disappointed by that. Gave a second try to this restaurant even the first time of kind of a disappointment with its portion and food quality and I'm glad I did. Went on Saturday, a day before Father's Day. It wasn't packed so we got our table after 10 minutes wait. I'm not sure if I was mistaken but I felt the portion was bigger this time and the pho came out piping hot and delicious. A genuine gem in the heart of Framingham. While I've visited only three times, my wife has gone out of her way to eat there five times. The food is consistently good and interesting. On my latest visit, I felt cold so I ordered the $5 wonton soup (I know, pretty mundane). It was a huge serving -- almost enough to classify as a meal. It was a revelation - I'd forgotten how wonderful wonton soup can taste, after 25 years of relatively flavor-free offerings at Chinese restaurants. My wife loves the Vermicelli with Pork. I most recently had the Sizzling Mongolian Beef. Absolutely delicious. It was served on a hotplate in the shape of a cow, but which also looked somewhat like a horse. More amusing than anything else I suppose, but still provided fodder for an interesting lunchtime conversation. :-) The service was excellent, and all portions generous - we were able to have another full meal with the leftovers. Ambiance leaves a little something to be desired. The moment you see the doorway you can feel the need for some minor renovations and sprucing up. I really hope they do well enough to be able to afford an upgrade. read more
