Pho broth is good but not out of this world. What I HATE is that they give you 4 pieces of meat for the Pho Tai.. Are you kidding me... I just paid $7 for 4 pieces of meat and soup n noodles. I really dislike that. I don't want a number one or anything else, I want Pho Tai so eating this with 4 pieces of meat is such a rip off.. On a side note service is NORMALLY good. But one time I came at 12:30 am and the owner gave me such an attitude that I am not going back there again... I walked in and there was already a group sitting down eating, so I thought it wouldn't be too late to order some to go. Right when I walked in the owner walked by and literally said What do you want?.. DUH this is a pho store and beer store combined? Either I want pho or alcohol or I'm here to rob but since I'm a short asian girl the third option is highly unlikely. I said I want Pho?? He said in a very condescending tone Pho?! God damn, it's the battle of the languages .. I know you understand english man! You speak it perfectly fine during the day!. And so I walked over to the cashier to find out what I wanted and to pay for it, and he LEFT ME THERE STANDING.. How rude. He was rude throughout the transaction until I took the food n left. And he said Thank You. Well yeah you should say Thank you because I'm a customer that pays good money for your food. If you don't like being open late, then don't advertise as such. Don't give customers crap because you're cranky. PLEASE. My family ran a business too so I understand the basics of customer service. Get over it and be pleasant because you asked for it. Thank you. read more

What made this place stand out from all the other pho places was the quality of its noodles--smooth and not clunky. If I lived in the area I'd go at least every week.... read more

I loved this place but my wife didn't. The pho was solid. The avocado smoothie was pretty good (but very heavy). The only thing my wife didn't like was the casual atmosphere. The owner's kids were running around and playing. I think public schools were closed that day so that's fine. The signage for this place is a little misleading. I thought this place was called "Pho and Beer." It's a little hard to see as you pretty much have to look for the Dunkin Donuts sign. I would go there again. read more

The soup base was amazing like taco bar it's amazing. I'm beginning to think places that are half gas/convenience/speciality restaurants are the best most of the time. Haven't been disappointed yet! read more

After yoga, the hubby and I were in the mood for some pho and since Pho Chi is open later than all the other pho places in the area, we decided to give this place a try. Oh how we regret our decision. I'm totally okay with hole-in-the-wall restaurants because sometimes their food will knock your socks off but this was not the case with Pho Chi. NOTHING here will knock your socks off. Not even a tickle. When we walked in, no one greeted us. No acknowledgement what so ever. The owner was sitting down with three of his sons. I had to ask for a table for the youngest kid to point to a table and said, "you can sit anywhere." No hello or welcome, NOTHING. One of the older kids came by our table a few minutes later to take our order. I was really nervous about my food because he didn't write anything down. Low and behold, we asked for no onions and there was a pile of onions in our soup. Not to mention, our fried rice dish was incorrect. The hubby ate it anyway and he said it was bland. I'm a vegetarian so no meat for me but the hubby was very disappointed with the meat quantity and quality. He said they barely gave him any meat in his pho and the two slices that he received did not taste very fresh. Oh and they didn't bring us any water either. Bottom line: -absolutely ZERO customer service. -food is sub par, skimpy on the meat -place is very oddly designed oh and Beer/Wine and pho concept? *scratches head read more

After discovering this pho place, I am addicted. Some of the best pho I've had in the area, with a very pleasant staff. The kitchen is open till 12:30, making it perfect for late night cravings. I have never had a problem waiting for anything here, and the staff is very friendly. Whether getting take out, or eating in it's been a pleasant experience. You can't miss out on this hidden gem! read more

Just came in from a lunch visit. When I went in, I wasn't sure if they would have a vegetarian pho option - with veg broth and not chicken or beef broth. So as soon as I saw the owner, I asked about it. He just said he will bring it. I was a little apprehensive that he hadn't understood when I said vegetarian. So I looked at the menu, and sure enough there wasnt a vegetarian option listed. After I sat down, two other people came and they were served before my pho was brought out. It was ok with me if they had taken care to make it without meat or meat broth. As the owner set down the bowl of pho, he explained that they had use water and tofu, and no meat broth. That was perhaps the nicest thing to do that I can imagine for an apprehensive vegetarian such as myself. I was really happy with the pho, and really glad that the owner took the time to make a vegetarian pho even tho it wasn't on the menu. The place doesn't look like a regular restaurant from the outside, and from the inside it looks it may have been a deli earlier. The sign outside says Beer and Wine, but it also has a truck outside with the Pho sign along with the beer and wine sign. Also, there is a yellow "Pho" sign on russel ave. to direct you to their location. All in all a decent pho with nice service. read more

Food was great, the only reason that it's not a 5 is because the service was slow. But then again it was around mid night when I went. I'd def come back to eat. read more

This is my go to for pho, any other place just isn't the same. I'm a regular here me and my boyfriend always come when we want to treat ourselves. They definitely have the best broth around. I also love that it is super family oriented. Their vegetarian egg rolls are to die for, only reason I give it four stars is because they rarely have them. read more

I prefer there pho then other places I've been too. It feels homemade just how I like it. Could never complain always a delight when I go.

Small place to dine, but good food! I love the combination fried rice and the crispy egg roll :)

Best Pho I've had in the area. This place is all about the food. Don't go there if you are expecting a really nice place to sit down even though I do like it. The food though is fantastic. I love the broth they use. It is so flavorful you barely need to add anything. Of course...I do add all the tasty things they give you. It is just a really great place for a good bowl of pho. read more

Good food, awful service. Two young boys were hosting and serving along with another woman. Really quiet which I don't personally care about but the servers actions afterwards really showed he wasn't just quiet but he didn't care about serving us. I always try to be polite as a customer but I don't think he cared if we were polite or not because we got crappy service regardless. First it took forever to get our waters which typically servers just bring waters regardless, granted we didn't ask for them. My brother got his entire entree before I even I got my drink, my appetizer and my entree. The most I got was "your food will be ready soon." There was no apology for anything. The table next to us got their food right away. I got my appetizer the same time the table next to us ordered theirs. They got theirs within minutes and I was waiting for at least 15. It took 25 minutes for my entree to come and no apology. It wasn't even the server who brought my food. The woman that did bring my food though noticed I didn't even have cutlery which I think our server should've brought to me before hand. On top of that, no one even provided napkins for us which I don't think is something we should even have to ask for. Our server was sitting down eating which I've seen before in mom and pop shops but no one was checking up on us at all. I had to ask my brother to go up to get a box to go. I don't know if an itemized receipt is required for all restaurants but I didn't get one. I had a $30 ticket which was weird because I've never gotten a flat number if there's tax involved? I really didn't even want to tip but I left 10% because I work in food. The woman up front handling the cashier was at least nice. read more

I love hole in the walls but this feels like the slums. Where you're in an alley way living amongst vagrants. Where the cashier guy is a drunk. When I went up to the cashier he reeked of hard liquor. One of the waiters gave me two, very stained and very wet straw still in the paper. Everything looked so dirty even the kitchen. Then there's only one person who can speak English. And you don't know what's in the mystery meat that has sunk to the very bottom of your bowl (The bowl was nice). They ran out of chicken and beef. Scrapping around for food like the streets of Downtown Los Angeles, Skid row. It was like I was in line for hours at a homeless shelter and when you finally get to the front of the line, they tell you "kitchen is closed." I also didn't see a restaurant grade on the window. At least there are two large flat screens to avoid the eye sore. My issue wasn't the interior. I can disregard the interior if the food is great. We didn't get that at all. There was only 3 pieces of shrimp on two scewers that were served. The Pho was about average. I've had better. They then forgot our egg rolls and forgot to mention it. The icing on the cake was that they didn't want to make us a boba because they closed the kitchen off when two tables just ordered food. This is what my fiance wrote... A drunken owner/manager who arrogantly waddles through the restaurant like a monkey... terrrible service including rude looks when you request a few more minutes to view the menu before ordering... food that never arrives because of a "miscommunication" between the kitchen and the waiter... a guy who comes to your table and tells you "we're out of chicken, we're out of beef" when half the menu is comprised of those two items... a waiter who tells you it's "too late" to order a boba drink a full one hour before closing time, having minutes earlier served boba drinks to a nearby table... random pieces of processed mat found 'supplementing' your pho dish... and all in one visit to the Pho Chi restaurant/liquor store/candy shop where you can eat while drunks come in to buy booze, most of which has clearly already been (judging by the smell) consumed by the owner/manager. Avoid. read more

OK, this place was not the easiest to find. Also it has a wine and beer store portion attached to the restaurant part and the owner's (?) kids were sitting at a table playing on a laptop, so it looks like the weirdest most randomest of places BUT GOOD GOSH BATMAN, THEY HAVE AMAZING BANH MI! At $5.50 a pop I was like whoa ok that's a little pricey there, no? But whatever, I caved and got 3. I ate the pork one and woooooweeeeee. Let's just say I'm planning my next trip down there again. The sandwich is pretty sizable compared to other's I've had. The bread had a slight crust from being toasted and is chewy on the inside. The pork was well seasoned and the veggies were generous and flavorful. I stuck my other two sammies in the fridge and ate one the next day. Still amazing. Wow. Thai tea with bubbles was pretty good. The Vietnamese iced coffee will put some hairs on your chest. (Strong, much?!). And I grabbed a beer on the way out. PLUS! I didn't eat the pho but just based on the sandwiches. I will definitely be visiting again. read more

My son and I have eaten pho from various Vietnamese restaurants, all over VA, MD and even MI...I've even had great pho in Louisiana (I know, right?). We'd like to believe that we know our pho... I was NOT at all impressed with this place and their pho. The place is a hole-in-the-wall! The pho had a weird taste to it, and the portions of meat was practically nonexistent. I normally wouldn't have even considered checking out this place, since I have a Vietnamese restaurant right around the corner from where I live, but I wanted to see what else what out there. I'm SO disappointed that I did. As I mentioned, the place was a dump. Not very busy, but all the open tables were dirty. Had to request another set of chop sticks... When the spring rolls came out, it was barely edible. :( To make matters worse, I think they over charge. I'm all about given second chances, but there's no way they could improve. WORST PHO EVER! read more

Only reason I maintained the 2 stars is because this is the only pho place that's open until 1am. The managers are cheap and will charge you for just about anything depending on the shortage of staff. They charge extra if you want another lime etc.. I've gone to this place for quite some time at nights and afternoons and the price has always remained the same. But there was one instance where they didn't have their 2 minor workers working and it was 1 lady running the front. She suddenly said that the price goes up after 9pm and our meals got charged an additional percentage from the regular price which is *baloney*. We weren't told of this at all. I've come to this place past 9pm in the past and the prices never changed. Plus, if there was a price change depending on time- that's something that should be written on the menu or should be told to the customers then again, I'm sure it's not a legit rule because it happens only when there is a shortage of staff.. read more

This is my favorite place to get Pho. Friendly staff, great prices and they're open late night. Seriously the best Pho and egg rolls I've ever had. read more

If you like Pho you understand that it all comes down to the broth. The noodles and beef are important but the flavor of the broth makes the meal. The flavor of this broth was on point. It was a little different than other places because they add some black pepper that really made the taste unique. The atmosphere is exactly what you want a Pho place to be....small, family owned, and in a location with low rent so they can afford to sell you awesome bowls of soup. I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

This is a very nondescript place that I've driven by for years, but hadn't given much thought until I ate there. It doubles as a liquor store, but there is outdoor seating and a wall divides the liquor from the tables for diners. The interior is not upscale; it's definitely a very casual place. The customer service was great; the people are very friendly and seem genuinely patient and kind. The people who work here seem to put a lot of work into making customers happy and making good food. I did have my doubts whether they put MSG in the food because I was thirsty and kept wanting more water. I'm not much of a pho fan, but this was I will likely be back and tell my friends. read more

OK maybe I came on an off night? I only got the pho ga (chicken) and the veggie pho, but it was really mediocre and honestly the chicken was a little gamey. I ended up not even eating it. Two other things: the prices on the web site are wrong... nothing like showing up and being charged more than you expected (I don't believe they're trying to rip people off btw... I just think they need to update the site). And, on the the night that I went, I went to grab a 6 pack from the beer cooler (also a beer store) and the entire thing was turned off, all the beer was room temp. So, first off, all those beers are now skunked... but aside from that it did make me wonder what other refrigeration units may or may not be working in the joint. Anyway, everyone else seems to love it so... read more

It's pholicious - other noodle dishes and summer rolls also very good.I haven't tried other menu items (yet). And they serve until 12:30. Unheard of in MoCo-land. read more

We were really in the mood for some Pho and were in the Gaithersburg area today so decided to check out Pho Chi. With an average 4 star review on Yelp, we figured it was a safe bet. The place is a small beer and wine store which has been reduced in size to accommodate a small restaurant. We ordered two orders of the shrimp summer rolls which were just OK. They had an odd bitter flavor with an unpleasant aftertaste. The shrimp was tasteless. What was even more disappointing was the peanut sauce. Contrary to recent reviews, this sauce is extremely lacking in flavor! It was thin, runny and sadly, very bland. If you have had well made peanut sauce, it isn't hard to decipher that this one is poorly lacking. The soup is a solid 3.5 stars. It definitely wasn't the worst I've had (Pho 81 in Germantown), but it could definitely be made better. The noodle bundle was plentiful but there was not enough broth in the bowl. The cooked noodles expanded up and over the top of the broth. I ordered #17 (flank/chin) and while the small portion of beef was enough for me, more avid meat eaters might want to order double. I would rate the pho 4 stars except for the fact that it was extremely salty. My husband and I both noticed how overly salted the broth was. He ate less than half of his as a result. During our meal, something was burning in the kitchen and the entire place filled up with cloudy smoke. An employee there was hacking away the entire time. Someone who is that sick should refrain from going to work, especially when working at a small restaurant. Overall, I would say it is just OK. It is Christmas day after all and not much else is open. I definitely wouldn't go back, though. read more

Amazing!! Best Pho I've had since Seattle! They were so accommodating and it was so authentic. I must when in town.

The only reason why I gave this place 5 stars because I can't give them 6 stars. Pho is phenomenal and it comes out in timely manner. Best pho I have ever tried! read more

This is one of interesting place where you can try both pho and get beer at the same time. I tried their Kobe pho and beef special pho here, it is good. Only complain I have is, why you no give me more meat. The main reason I am attached to this place is their sauce, oh boy they are good and spicy enough to sent you to heaven. read more

This is definitely some to the better pho that I have had. The only thing that takes it down a star is that the service is quite slow. If I could get in and eat and get out in a more reasonable amount of time I would probably come here more often. read more

Finally checked this place out after reading all great reviews. I was really hoping to find a hidden gem in a beer store. What a novel idea but what a disappointment... Service was terrible and they weren't even busy. Pho was OK. Not worth suffering the bad service for mediocre pho. Then again I am super picky when it comes to pho since it's in my blood. Haha! read more

Definitely a hole in the wall, but aren't all the best Pho places? Food was very good - Broth was flavorful, meat cooked perfectly. Tables seemed kinda dirty and not much of a chilled white wine section at all (all the beer/wine are in the refrigerated cases and self serve). All in all, delicious Pho, but ambiance leaves something to be desired. read more

Delicious. I was in the area for a two day meeting and I didn't want the crappy hotel buffet for lunch. Hooray for yelp, because I was craving vietnamese food. Pho Chi is great. Not too expensive. Big portion sizes. Fast service. Downsides: Loud, hard to find. It was so good, I came back again the next day for lunch. If I lived in the area, I'd come here often. read more

They always have their children especially that young kid he's about 10 he always hanging around there everyday. One day, we were sitting and was about to finishing up my lunch all of the sudden one of flip flop was flying and landed on my plate?! I had to tell the owner and she yelled at him and yet she still make us pay for our lunch? What a joke. The rice was being Microwaved? Seriously?? We have been coming here few times after the incident and the food was cooked in a microwave we will definitely not coming back here ever again. Horrible. read more

-1 star for their kids running around outside and the super steamy environment. I had the beef pho and a spring roll. The pho was flavorful, while not overwhelming with salt. The rice noodles were firm and not over soft or mushy. Very good pho. The spring roll was just so-so. Lettuce used instead of basil. The peanut sauce was fine. Friendly and attentive service. I arrived at 11:10am. Hours listed that they open at 10:00am. The doors were locked. I called, and they opened. A few others were waiting outside with me. read more

The pho was good, but not great. One of the few places with vegetarian pho, so that's a plus. However, the vegetarian pho was more expensive than some of the meat pho, and was not terribly filling. Prices were reasonable, but I was irked that they did not match the prices on their website. They shouldn't post prices if they aren't correct and they don't update them. read more

Pho Chi is in a lowkey restaurant, which reminds me of a lot of hole in the wall restaurants. Decided to come to lunch with a few co-workers and at first the doors were locked even though we were well within business hours (and there were a few people inside eating). The server unlocked the door and let us in. You will see that it is a combination of a restaurant and a liquor store as others have said. We all ordered pho and were very pleased. There are many pho places in the area but this is a place you should give a try! Dont forget they are closed Wednesdays! read more

I don't know how you are called a pho place if you can't even make pho. This place is half a pho restaurant and half a beer and wine store. I went here around 9pm with my two other friends and we were the only ones in there. It took forever for our pho to come out and I was super hungry. Usually when you are hungry even bad food tastes somewhat decent but the pho I had was so bad. I think something was wrong with the broth. Me and my friends all had a weird taste in our mouth and agreed that it was a terrible experience for pho. Despite the taste we finished our meal because we were really hungry. We each paid and bought candy from the counter because in order to pay with card your total has to be above $10. Gave it two stars because they sell alcohol or else I would give it one star for failing to be a pho restaurant. read more

I'm pretty salty that although the sign on the door says that it is opened at 11:00AM on Sundays (and it seems every day it is opened at 11:00AM), I visited today at 11:10AM and it was still pitch black indoors. Where is everyone? I also figure that since it's not just a pho restaurant, there should be someone there opening the beer & wine store as well! read more

Beer.Wine.Pho. What more can you ask for? This place is tucked back in the small shopping plaza next to the fire station in Montgomery Village, and if you arent looking for it, you will miss it. The pho is excellent. I have done take out pho from here, and it comes fully loaded with all the basil leaves, lime, sprouts, etc, you can ask for. The serving size is decent, and the pricing is good. They also have spring rolls/summer rolls. I would rate the pho here as a little better than "fancy pho" down the street in the Marshall's plaza. read more

Let's be honest... it's a beer and wine store in the back with a twist in the front... they have Pho and other Vietnamese dishes. My family ordered mainly Pho. To my surprise, it's not bad at all. In fact, it's quite delicious comparing to others around the Montgomery County area. The Pho came out hot and the beef broth had just the right amount of anise, cinnamon and clove. If you ignore the ambiance, you'll enjoy the Pho and while you're at it, have a six-pack too. read more
