Pho Bac is a nice addition to the lunch rotation. The Pho gets a solid 4 stars. I recommend the meatball version. The cool thing about the Pho here is that they sell it in 3 different sizes. I'm used to restaurants that only have one or maybe two size options. I got the regular on a recent visit and it was more than enough with a generous portion of noodles, meatballs and veggies. I've only had the Banh Mi once (grilled pork) and my only complaint is that it didn't have enough of the dressing on the bread. It could have used more. Because of that, I'd have to say the sandwiches only get 3 stars for now. I'll try them again. Hopefully I just hit them on a bad day. I'm not sure of the name, but I also recommend this dessert drink that consists of tapioca, fruit and coconut milk. It's a good drink to cap off your meal. read more

Great restaurant. It's probably one of the best Pho places in the Dallas area hands down. Their broth is tasty and flavorful, it's almost as good as homemade. Run-down looking stripmall, but the interior of this pho place is rather nice. Not "hip nice" like Pho Pasteur across the street to the south, but nice in a traditional way. You could take a date here and not scare them off. Good but not great pho. The wife and I agreed that the broth lacked a certain complexity and depth. There were both plastic and bamboo chopsticks on the table; we both prefer bamboo. Finally tried one of the sandwiches and it was interesting. I think the VN Bolgona ingredient was a head cheese type pressed loaf made of pig ear. Took me a while to figure out the snappy, squishy stuff was cartilige. The bread was SPOT ON. Oh how Pho does the soul right on an unseasonably cool day/night. FINALLY made a swing by Pho Bac after delaying for weeks; not dissapointed, and went RUNNING there due to my Vietnamese colleague's recommendation. This is his favorite place for Pho. Full disclosure: got dinner to go since was for me and fam, and was a tad wary of how it would transport (20 minutes commute home after pickup). It was fine; they way it was packed, all was to be assembled once you're ready to eat. I got the medium meatball pho; broth delicate and not overly seasoned, ample meatballs, fresh veggies. I had been here about a year ago when we first moved here but somehow forgot about it in my hunt for Pho spots. I had seen it pop up a lot on Yelp recently and said lets go. So glad we did as the Pho was excellent! My wife and I split an order of the egg rolls which were crispy and delicious. We also both had Pho w/brisket, round, and meatball. I will make this simple. Fountain soda drinks. Attentive staff. Pho Bac is my preferred choice for pho because my wife hates paying $1.50 for a 12oz can of soda. Unlimited refills usually does the trick. But really, the pho is good too. I am gluttonous so I always get the large (which used to be called the super bowl) and that definitely satisfies me. I prefer the Dac Biet which translates into "everything that is awesome." But I opt for no tripe as the texture doesn't appeal to me. I also like my pho place that uses the real Hoisin sauce (the purple and yellow label) although they hide it in squeeze bottles, I know the taste of good Hoisin sauce. Officially addicted. Yesterday, I tried Pho Bo B&C (Well done Brisket & Flank) and split a Grilled Pork Sammich with my lunch buddies. Today, I went back to finish a sammich by myself. The crusty, warm french bread filled with yummy grilled pork & veggies, topped with a little hoisin sauce hit the spot. As I was checking out, another presumable "newbie" to Pho Bac asked what to order. I convinced them to get the sammich. "This place is the best pho place". Now how many times have we heard that same phrase and eaten at less than satisfactory places that make us want to "pho-get" we ate there??!!! After my friend promised that this place is indeed the best place to get a bowl of pho- I was down. When you walk into this place you're instantly hit with an aroma that you know you're about to enjoy this meal! Even though i was told that they had the BEST pho, I wanted bun bo hue:something spicy to make me sweat and cure my hangover at the same time! I'm not all for the pig's blood and feet so i asked if i could switch for some meatballs and brisket. The bun bo hue was pretty good and had the right mix of meat and veggies. The bowls come in 3 diff sizes of small, large and superbowl. I got the small and when it came out i was kicking myself on the inside for not getting the large but it was enough to satisfy me when i was done. They give you a platter of fresh greens and unlike most pho places they steam their bean sprouts! If you want an unPHOgettable meal that is satisfying and affordable then don't second guess coming here. I also recommend their spring/egg rolls! read more

I don't know how this place stayed under my radar. Was going to Pho Pasteur and saw this place across the street. Time to try a new place. I got the Eye of round steak and brisket pho. Clean, flavorful broth. Brisket was tender. Was missing a lime. Didn't notice until I finished eating cause I was starving and the pho was DAMNED good regardless. The XL bowl didn't fill me up as much as I thought it would. And it was a lil expensive at $9.20 after tax, but man. It's a good bowl of pho. I'd recommend this to my grandchildren. A+ read more

Best Pho Broth Ever. I've had time to try out some of the other Vietnamese restaurants in the Dallas area, and I have to say, Pho Bac has no contender. For once, I decided to not add any Rooster sauce nor Hoisin sauce because that would simply ruin the taste of an already well-balanced broth. Their largest bowl also contained LOTS OF NOODLES. Actually, TOO MANY NOODLES. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I would never order an extra large here. Meat and such was normal. I also tried their banh mi. It wasn't anything special, but I don't remember it being bad either. Final note: Don't let their shabby strip mall exterior deter you -- there's delicious pho waiting for you inside! read more

I eat lunch here about 2-3 times a week and it never get's old, even in the TX heat. My go to dish: PHO, naturally! This is located in a strip mall that looks a bit dilapidated but you'll be surprised when you walk in that it's pretty nice! Pho with meat balls: lots of balls! First time I tried the pho here I thought the broth was slightly on the salty side but maybe it was just on that day as my subsequent visits, the broth was well made. I've tried the Pho with EVERYTHING in it, and didn't like that as much although they are definitely not skimpy on the meat! Service is QUICK! From the time of arrival to paying the bill would take 15-20 mins MAX if you are crunched for time. And this place is cheap! Usually $6-7 for lunch (not including tip). I've gone through gallons of the stuff in various joints in the Garland-Richardson area and this is my favorite place for PHO. One of the features of the menu: You don't look at pictures of dozens of bowls of soup with a description of contents below each. Instead, you tell 'em if you want a medium or large bowl of "base" and then you pick out the meats to be added to your base bowl. Good Banh Mi, too. The room has a fairly high ceiling so you don't get that claustrophobic feel like you get in a lot of strip center restaurants. The place seems pretty clean. Love their pho and vermicelli. It's not expensive which is the whole point of pho. It's not supposed to be gourmet and hipster which always hike up prices of food. I've been here a few times with friends and service is good. There might be a during weekend rush hour so there's a little wait for service sometimes. Servers are always nice and it's right next to 1 of my favorite tofu places. My only gripe is the lighting, it's so dark and it's purple which I know has been like that for years. read more

Good and cheap food but watch your bank statements because they will charge you twice for no reason. Then you will have to go in person to show proof that your account was charged twice which is very inconvenient for people who have busy schedules Update: It's been a week and a half since I showed up in person and showed proof to the owner of being charged twice and I have yet to be refunded. I was very reasonable and understanding that people make mistakes and I did everything they asked in order to prove the double charge but they have not kept their promise to refund. I came here with the boo and my bro to get some lunch. This is the spot that the boo likes to get her pho. I wasn't in the mood for pho so this review is based off what i got, their banh mi. I got the chicken and ham banh mi. The baguette they use is extremely crunchy and hard. I was expecting a crunch exterior with chewy interior but that wasn't the case. That was a turn off from the get-go. I wasn't too fond of the filling to bread ratio. There wasn't enough filling for size of the french baguette. The filling was tasty though I'll give you that. I probably should be ordering a banh mi at a pho place, but it's on the menu so every thing's fair game. I love how you can customise your pho here! And the meat is def sliced thinner than other place, I like that bc you can see how it cooks evenly thr moment they put it into the broth. They also have the option to order cooked bean sprouts instead of raw, which is nice but I like the diff texture the raw ones bring. The spring rolls were meh though, the shrimp didnt have lots of taste to it and there way too much lettuce and not enough herbs... but it was cheaper than most places so that might be why? Very nice restaurant. Excellent fast service. Full of ethnic locals enjoying good food for an excellent price. We will be going back! We ordered the spring rolls. They were tasty with a nice sauce. Two nice rolls $2.50. I would have liked them more if they had a bit more lettuce, or some basil. They were really good as they were. We also ordered the Bahn Mi pork and chicken sandwiches, They were hot and fresh with a great crusty french bread. The grilled meat was perfectly cooked. The crunchy dIcon and carrot relish was very good. I would have liked more cucumber and jalapenos in the sandwiches. I am sure to ask for more next time. The food was ok but according to the service.... i would not give this place one star. I came with a group of four. After had my dish served on the table, i tried to grab a server to ask for a knife. How can i eat a whole chicken without a knife?. There were 7 servers running around but none of them even bother to look at me. The worst part was when i tried to pay, the lady with short hair rob the cash out of my hand just like i own her money, then slammed the changes on the counter without even look at me. I was expected a smile or at least she can say thanks or something like that . She was clearly had attitude. I went back to my table and was pissed. My friends calmed me down before i went wild. I have never been treated with mean and rude attitude like that. If you hate that job so much, go find another job. To the business owner. Generous portions of good quality meat makes me a happy girl. And I was definitely a happy girl at Pho Bac. I ordered the regular (=small) size pho with brisket and flank. The noodles were chewy and the meat was tasty & abundant. The broth is average but not salty which is good! Too often restaurants overly season the broth to appeal to the American palate. In any case, a squeeze of lime solves the bland-broth problem. Their dessert drink of coconut milk with red beans was delicious: the red beans are HUGE, perfectly cooked, and choke full of the sweetness of coconut milk. Seriously, they're so big I wondered at first if they're kidney beans ... okay, maybe just tasty mutant red beans. The drink at first came with these food-colouring-green jelly bits. We didn't expect them based on the menu and they were fine with remaking it for us without them. And do ask for it with less ice, otherwise it comes with half a cup of ice cubes. read more

I have possibly gone to this pho restaurant more than any other pho place in Texas, and I live in Houston! Since dating a Dallasite (betraying my city of Houston), I have spent more weekends in Dallas than I'd like to admit. With many weekends consisting of drinking or late nights, the next morning always calls for PHO! The only place to fulfill this craving is Pho Bac. A lot of pho restaurants' pho tastes the same. The meat is what usually differs. I've tried most of the pho meat options here. I love their Pho Tai Gan. EVERYTIME I eat pho, I request extra limes...like TONS of it. At other restaurants, the waiters bring out a little dish with 3 slices of limes on it. Ummm yeah..that ain't gonna cut it. At Pho Bac, however, the waiters bring out a whole bowl for me. This isn't even what made me love this place. What made me love this place is the fact that during one of my visits, when they brought out the usual vegetable plate for your pho, the waiter brought out a bowl of limes for me, without me asking. I was very impressed with his memory! I was very shocked, especially because I don't even live in Dallas. Im going to have to say three stars is about as high as I can rate any pho place, but realistically thats a pretty good rating on any scale for this type of cuisine. This however is my go to place for pho and for bun, the broth is usually very strong not high in salt or other various bits of wonderment. I prefer the pho tai with meatballs and extra meat and this place is quick to get you your food. I would say most traditional, i.e. not pho que put too much salt in anything we make, will be quick to service and quick to deliver. I have had the beef stew here on occasion, usually really good most of the base soups here are going to be oily so keep that in mind if you are new to eating these types of places. However I enjoy that, add a little sirachi and some hoisin and you are locked and loaded for your daily serving. Now, one thing I do enjoy here over a fair amount of the pho places around DFW is there "peanut" sauce for the spring rolls. I find that a lot of the places around DFW tend to overload with hoisin or whatever various mixtures they combine to get the creamy delight. Here they have always just hit it perfect with the mixtures they put together and I have yet to have a "stale" spring roll with the rice hardened which has always been a huge pet peeve with me. read more

This is my family's go-to place for pho. I usually order Pho Dac Biet in a small. Don't get the Thai tea though. Their boba is bad. Well you can if you think you're going to die without but you're better off ordering it without the tapioca and adding more sugar to it or someplace else. The atmosphere is dark and cozy and the service was good. If anything their pho is the best entree served here (hence the "pho" in pho bac). My parents don't like the other entrees. read more
