Came due to Mike Chen's videos and tried the kobe beef pho - very tasty! I appreciate the multiple bowl size options - the small was a perfect breakfast size! Also love that they were open and bustling for breakfast because who doesn't love a bowl of breakfast pho? Amazing Vietnamese restaurant! I've been to Pho Bac a couple times for pho and it has consistently delivered great quality and service. Pho Bac is always crowded but the wait times are refreshingly short, ranging from maybe 2 minutes to 10 minutes. Expect the tables near the TVs to be almost always filled with sports fans though (sometimes they sit there for two hours). Compared to other restaurants, the pho here is miles beyond the rest. The meat is tasty and given in large portions along with really fresh vegetables that complement the flavor and aroma of the noodle soup. They also don't mind providing certain dishes that are good on the side, like extra onions and herbs, so that's definitely a plus. Pro tip: Order as many beef types as you want, as they don't charge for additional cuts. I used to get pho tai chin nam, but as of now I get pho tai chin nam gau without paying an extra cent. The soup is very flavorful and moderately salty. I suspect they put MSG in but that's typical of Asian restaurants so beware if you don't like that kind of thing. read more

I've already written a review of Pho Bac. It was a long time ago. Here is my most recent take on the place. We used to eat here often. I used to work not more than a major intersection away. When I first found Pho Bac, so many years ago, it was a cold, raining day. The restaurant I was going to try turned out to be a nightclub with bar food. I looked farther down the strip mall and saw a Vietnamese restaurant. I never tried it. I was hungry. I walked in, entering a very large lunch room, similar to the Asian ones I visited in Hawaii. I had no idea what the items on the menu were. I recognized Cornish Game Hen and pointed at that. It came out split which I was used to seeing it whole. There was a glaze on it that I didn't expect. I took one taste and knew I'd come to the right place. The glaze was outstanding. As I worked my way through the hen I watched all the fellow dinners and how they got along with their food. There was an abundance of asians which gave me comfort. They must know a good asian restaurant when they ate at one. I saw many eating a soup with noodles. I also noticed that no two used chop sticks in exactly the same way. I vowed to come back and tackle this "soup." I came to the conclusion that the stick thing was the art of getting the food into your mouth. I did come back and tried this thing called Pho. I never thought I'd learn to eat soup with chop sticks ... I don't mean to be misleading, they also had the little asian spoons that look a bit like ladles. I fell in love with the flavor. I tried several varieties of not only Pho but other dishes. I settled on Pho Tai. If I ate at Vietnamese restaurants more often I would eat a larger variety but I love Pho Tai so much you'll seldom find me eating anything else. I have to give props to their beef stew - dip the french bread and see what good tastes like. As time rolled on, I have eaten at many Vietnamese restaurants around Texas. Luckily I found one that is within walking distance of my work that comes close to Pho Bac in pho quality and actually has a better egg rolls but knowing this is not why you're reading my review... (I also found one close on 6th street in Austin, but not a total experience). Pho Bac will be going through remodeling in a week so I can't comment in detail about the decor. I've always enjoyed the painting of something resembling a sky on the ceiling. The furniture is better than you'd find in similar dining establishment. I'm not sure what they are going to do to the place. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see (5-16-2019). They have a pretty good business model when it comes to seating, wait staff and chefs. You are seated quickly, the wait staff doesn't hurry you but they are there in a jiffy when they think you're ready. The one who prepares your meal brings it out - at least that how it appears. I believe that Vietnamese food is fresh and wholesome. You may like one dish more than another. My suggestion is to try several varieties and come to your own conclusion. I will say without hesitation. If you want a fine meal then I can recommend Pho Bac. If you like Vietnamese food then I'm pretty dog gone sure that you'll enjoy this restaurant. My co-worker and I decided the extra miles to eat there was worth every bit of gas to do so. I hope your experience is as enjoyable as mine. Like any other pho houses out there, everyone has their opinion as to which one is better. I personally love coming here because they open early in the morning for breakfast and I get me a medium bowl with everything in it. The broth is always consistently good. The tai meat is always tender and delicious as well as the meatballs, tendons, tripe, and any other type meats you can add to it. I just can't come over here on a daily basis as its a 30 minute drive for me from Las Colinas to Richardson... but when I do come here, their pho is just absolutely delicious and filled with love. This place was recommended by a friend saying it was the best pho. Wouldn't say it's as good as my mom but it was good. Broth was flavorful but I wouldn't say it'll be my go to pho spot. We all got the Kobe beef pho (friend's recommendation) with grill pork spring rolls for starters and my sister got aside of grilled pork banh mi. Spring rolls were good. My sister said the banh mi was pretty darn good (she likes to dip the sandwich in the pho broth--- don't knock it til you try it). The Kobe beef pho was good. Beef was melt in your mouth good even though it's been cooking in the hot broth. I didn't get my beef on the side like my sister and bf did. They are pretty generous with the meat. If we happen to drive out to Richardson for anything we will probably make a stop to eat here but we won't drive out of the way for it. read more

We're from northern Virginia, where there is a huge Vietnamese community and super authentic pho options, and have been looking for something that compares in DFW. We've tried many and think Pho Bac might be the best! Portion sizes are huge (with lots of meat), the menu is varied, and the dishes are made with love. The pho broth in particular has a lot of depth. One thing we noticed is that the noodles come slightly undercooked for takeout, so we always add a bit of broth and heat it up in the microwave so it's just right. With much thought and consideration I will say that this is my choice as the best Pho place in Dallas. I have been eating here for years and I have experience first hand the evolution of Pho Bac. It wasn't that good in the beginning but over the years the cooking and gotten a lot better and the menu has improved as well. The Experience: I would recommend the Pho Dac Biet or Pho with meatballs and steak if you want to keep it simple. The vermicelli , bun bo hue and rice will grilled pork are also good alternatives if you're not craving pho. Everything else like the appetizers and desserts are nothing special. (There's good boba places near there you to go to after you had pho) The Bottom Line: Pho Bac shines when it comes to delicious pho with great portion sizes. Come hungry and leave happy. read more
