The staff was around, so I was able to ask if I needed anything. Shrimp Pho Large gave me 8 pieces of Shrimp Duo Appetizer, I wish had more than 1 slice of 1/2 shrimp. It had a lot of of lettuce in the spring roll, hardly any protein. I would not order that again. The egg rolls tasted fine but I definitely needed to dip it in the sauce. Sauces were fine. I would probably just order the egg rolls next time. Duo was pricey for the amount they give you, but it was good to give it a try for my first time here. I ordered hot tea, thinking it would be like a Vietnamese restaurant that provides a tea pot and small cup, but it was a large clear glass mug. However, we were disappointed to learn that the small pho option is no longer available for carryout, even though it is still available for dine-in customers. As regular customers, that flexibility mattered to us. Sometimes we just want a smaller portion for takeout, and removing that option feels like customers are being pushed toward ordering a larger size. With food prices already increasing across the board, having the ability to choose a smaller portion for carryout would make it easier for us to continue visiting as often as we do. We moved to Irvine in 1993. Years after, we found a Vietnamese restaurant in Barranca Pkwy. We went to try for the first time their Pho (soup) which came in various flavors. They were delicious and the vegetables with it, were fresh. From then on, we always come here everytime we crave for soup dish. This is the only Pho Restaurant that survived, even pandemic times. Nice restaurant w/ a L shape setting for seating inside and some outdoor seatings available. Several tables were occupied when we came in. We were seated immediately. However, we were not service first as other customers who came after us had their orders taken first. We ordered the following: 1. Pho Dac Biet, large/Pho Dac Biet, small and Rib Pho (1 size only-comes in large bowl). All three bowls had way too many noodles, making it hard to mix up the Pho with the condiments and veggies. The broth was good, not sweet nor salty, and it didn't taste like there was too much msg. And did not have to crave iced water after eating the bowl of Pho due to too much msg like other restaurants. We didn't need to add fish sauce or extra lemons, and the plate of vegetables was very full and fresh. The rib meat was cooked just right, not too soft nor too chewey, and a knife w/ side plate was provided to cut the meat off. 2. Basil Spaghetti w/ ground meat: It's a large plate for my 9yo son who ate maybe 1/3 of it and we to-go the rest. It's pretty sweet for spaghetti, so it was not a plus for my 2 boys who love spaghetti. 3. An order of Goi Cuon (spring rolls): I had to take it to go and ate it hours later after sitting inside a cool hotel room. It was rolled well and tasted fresh and was soft to bite into. Pho Ba Co is my new go to pho spot in Irvine coming from someone who grew up in the Little Saigon area! This spot has the feel and taste of home style cooking for me! It's located in a pretty decently sized plaza next to other food businesses. There are a good amount of parking spots available. Wait times here are usually not that long, but it can get pretty busy during the dinner rushes or weekends. Wifey and I stopped by for lunch around 12pm and were seated right away. There are tables to sit at inside and outside the restaurant. They have a pretty vast menu of pho, mi, bun, rice, and more! Wifey got the pho dac biet and I got the mi tai xa xiu. When we first got our bowls, we went for the broth test and the broth was beyond aromatic and rich! Overall, we really enjoyed both of our dishes and I love how you can get egg noodles with pho broth here. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming. The food is definitely legit here and has the authentic flavors I have been craving since leaving home. Spaghetti review for the curious: It has a tomato-y sauce that has a bit of tang and sweetness that's kinda reminiscent of ketchup. Plenty of ground beef added in, and the diced onions are cooked to be tender yet slightly crunchy. The basil comes through quite well, but it's not overwhelming. It makes an otherwise mundane pasta dish stand out a bit more, and I quite liked the flavor. In a way though, it's reminiscent of something I could easily slap together at home, so the relatively high price is really reflected in the portion size, which is fairly large. If you're not much of a big back, I'd recommend sharing or planning to take leftovers to go. Ultimately, I think it's still worth getting if you're curious or hungry or not craving any of the more typical offerings, but it's more or less probably what you're thinking it is. read more

Honestly, Pho Ba Co was very underwhelming. As a student at UCI, I know that Pho Ba Co and Sup Noodle Bar are the most popular places to get pho. Considering that I am from Garden Grove/Westminster area, I am very spoiled with delicious Pho from Pho 79, PhoHolic, etc. When I'm at school though, I'll settle for whatever is the best nearby. Food Consensus: The pho was here was just okay. It was not the best and it was definitely not the worst spot I've ever tasted but I found the pho to be quite bland. I didn't like the broth because I felt that there wasn't enough flavor. The meat was tough and the noodles were firm. Service: Service was also just okay. It was kinda slow considering how we my friend and I were one of the only parties there. The inside looks like your typical pho restaurant. Looking for a new pho place and found Pho Ba Co on Yelp. We came during a weekday lunch and it wasn't too busy. The have two sizes for their pho for dine in - regular $15.95 and large $17.50. I couldn't decide between the rare steak or brisket, so I opted for getting rare steak and brisket. It came out pretty quickly, with a platter of bean sprouts, Thai basil, cilantro, jalapeño and lime. Hoisin and sriracha bottles were already on the table. It was a solid bowl of pho, with plenty of meat and noodles. My daughter had only eaten pho at her dorm and said this was much better.
