So, I haven't had pho before this. And it had been pretty talked up. I love asian food. But - and maybe this is just pho in general - I thought what I had was pretty bland. It needed a little more of something - anything. More onion? Garlic? Salt? I don't know. I didn't eat a lot of it - it was just so-so. And again, I love asian food, any noodles, any soup, bring it on. This just wasn't my thing. In Shakopee, I'd prefer Far East or Sapporo if craving Asian food. Food wasn't great, can't complain about the service because there wasn't any. Ordered chicken pho and shrimp spring rolls. Shrimp spring rolls were not good so I sent them back. Chicken pho was OK but server never came back to check. Got up to pay my bill and they tried to charge me for the spring rolls that I did not eat. I said, I did not eat those and I am not paying for them. Two of the workers proceeded to yell at me and tell me it's a waste and I stayed calm and just said sorry but I'm not paying for them. Thank, God, for the Vietnamese who live in Minnesota. I tried many Pho Noodle Soups all over California and New York and I can honestly say that this is probably the top 3 Pho's I've ever had. I had just arrived to freezing Minnesota from San Francisco and was craving some comfort food when the in-laws suggested I try Pho 83...which was suspiciously located in a strip mall. But my hope started to rise when I noticed that the people running it and eating inside were all true Vietnamese....There were large families of 10-12 seated at center tables, slurping noodles and laughing. I knew I was in for a treat. We ordered the Vietnamese sandwich and I requested it be chopped into 4 sections so that we can have it as pre-cursor to our entrees. They were super busy and I was reminded again that one should never expect appetizer and meals to arrive in timed courses at Asian restaurants. But by the time the sandwich came with our main courses, it was just perfect...the baguette on super crisp on the outside and fresh balanced perfectly with the sweetness of pork and crunchy, pickled vegetables inside it. The whole family just ate it up. The Pho was heavently. Rich broth with a hint of anise and slices of rare beef, beef ball/sausages and silky noodles. It was perfect for a snowy day and made us all feel warm and cozy inside. The Chinese food I must admit was mediocre. Nothing to write about here except that the food was fresh and hot but it didn't wow us like the Vietnamese food. I suspect the Chinese portion of the menu is cost of doing business in Minnesota where customers expect sweet and sour pork if you're an Asian restaurant , no matter whether you're from Vietnam, Korean or China. The service is a bit rushed and spotty...but that's not why you come to Asian restaurants in the first place! They have what seemed like a booming take out business that often competed with the level of service offered for those customers eating in. But all in all, a great dining experience. read more

The place is pretty filty. tables look like they were only spot cleaned, chairs still had food crubs/stains from the last cust who was there. (I actually had to use my own wet wipes to wipe down my table and chairs.) One word. Pho. This is pretty much the most glorious invention of soupy, noodle heaven... I'm actually speechless. The first time my boyfriend and I came was an accident. He had just moved to Shakopee and I was having mad cravings for Hot and Sour Soup. I told him about my quest for something tasty and remembered passing by the restaurant when driving to his house. He decided fried rice was a fabulous idea and we pursued the pho. Now, I've heard all about pho from several different people and they all come to the same conclusion - delish! I was bound and determined to get something scrummy so I substituted my beloved hot and sour soup for the BBH. BBH... where do I begin? Before your soup arrives you get a plate full of raw veggies to toss in your soup for a little something extra. The BBH itself is spicy with red chili oil (don't wear white when ordering this bad boy) and is full of pork, beef and noodles. Lackluster service and terrible Chicken Pho. It was made with cheap dark filler chicken that had cartilage in it and was chewy and gross. I know Chicken Pho is ONLY supposed to be made with white meat chicken, as I have talked with and know authentic Vietnamese cooks. I showed the server what I found in my soup and he tried to play it off as normal for beef pho, and did not even realize he had taken my order for Chicken Pho! If you want good Pho, stick to the Cities, as the suburbs are subpar to say the least. Relatively authentic Vietnamese food at good prices. I had the beef pho and the pork spring rolls, my bill was $12. In my opinion, the key to good pho is in the broth, and the broth here was delicious. The portion size was large and the side garnishes were both fresh and plentiful. I've never been a fan of Asian meatballs, and these were no exception. However, the sliced brisket was great. I'd give the pho a 7/10. The spring rolls were so-so....there was too much pork, and cold pork doesn't have an appealing texture. It was almost crumbly. I was hoping these would be light and have a more sophisticated flavor, but all I got was lots of pork with a little bit of mint leaf. The sweet and sour dipping sauce was bland. I'd give these a 4/10. This place has decent food, but they are lacking in both cleanliness and service. The service was horrible, and the whole restaurant seemed dim and grimy. We came here on a Saturday night for some pho craving and because my brother-in-law recommended we try it out. My husband and I have been long time fans of Kimson in Bloomington and love their pho. We cheated on Kimson and tried some Pho 83 in response to my brother-in-law's rave review he gave us. When we walked in, we were quickly seated in a booth. It didn't look too busy but the server took quite some time to get back to us. We knew what we wanted since we were told what was good here. When he took our order, we were hungry like the wolves and wanted a banh mi sandwich and an order of pho. Before we could finish requesting for one of their sandwiches, the server quickly cut us off and told us they had a hectic day and that they were out of bread to make those sandwiches. What a huge blow to our hungry stomachs! We each settled for an order of pho, which in price comparison to Kimson, they were a little bit more. I was looking to be wowed by our pho so when I took that first bite, I anticipated to be overwhelmed with delicious-yumminess that my stomach would be so happy with. But I was a bit disappointed actually. There was a weird metallic aftertaste that i didn't really care for. And it was too sweet. So, I think I will stick with Kimson as my main pho place to go to. I think what would be a standout here at Pho 83 is their banh mi sandwiches. I have yet to try it, so their rating may go up, but until I try it, it stands at 3 stars. Customer service: Excellent. I don't even have to order. They already know what I am ordering :) Parking: large parking lot out front, easy to find a spot. All the food is very good here. I recommend ordering the PHO. The broth is very good. I have been here several times and have never been disappointed. I always order my desert first. The tri color is my favorite. They even have amazing prices for catering. I really enjoy the "mom and pop" feel of restaurants when you go to them and this is def one of them. This small Vietnamese restaurant is managed by a Vietnamese family. The menu has the usual Vietnamese fare and they also serve wine and beer here! The facility is clean, simple and neat, meanwhile there is plenty of parking in the parking lot. I'm not sure why other yelpers think it's a "dive", it's definitely not fancy, but it's not dirty or grungy enough to be labeled a "dive". In the Twin Cities area, you'll find that most authentic South East Asian food and restaurants are located in suburban strip malls, with simple and humble interiors -so Pho 83 is nothing out of the ordinary. The beef pho' was delicious -the broth is a light and flavorful concoction. As is customary when eating pho, you can add your own touch to the meal. I added more fiery ingredients including jalapeño, sriracha, and a red pepper sauce. However, if you're not a fan of spicy food, the simple broth on it's own is quite good and tasty anyway. My friend had the chicken pho' and really liked it. Usually, at other pho' places, she says she doesn't eat much of the chicken in the pho' because most of the time the chicken is too tough or chewy. However the chicken in the pho' at Pho 83 was made exactly to her liking -tender and soft. They also sell banh-mi' Vietnamese sandwiches here, and it was okay. Wasn't as good as the sandwiches at Lu's on Eat Street, nor was it as good as the ones made at Quang's. Pho 83's banh-mi bread was too bulky and didn't have the right texture. Making just the right kind of bread for bahn-mi sandwiches is really the key to a good banh-mi sandwich. The sandwich filling wasn't as flavorful as it could be either. The regulars here are mostly from the Vietnamese community. The service was excellent, quick, consistent, and courteous. The only caveat is that customers have to pay at the register after their meal. This is normally the case in regards to Asian restaurants. However it creates a crowded and confusing situation at the front as a line of people are trying to pay and leave while another line of people are trying to get a table. read more

Pho 83 isn't too bad. I've been there twice. First thing you notice is how much they need to clean. There's cobwebs and dead flies by the windows as well as food finger prints all over the windows. It makes me uncomfortable about how much they pay attention to cleaning in the kitchen and restrooms. The servers are generally friendly and helpful. I've only ever gotten the chicken pho here. The cuts of chicken are plentiful but not the greatest quality compared with other pho restaurants I've been to in Minneapolis and San Francisco. The pho is pretty good with the expected bean sprout, jalapeño, etc. additions. It's the only pho restaurant I know of in western 'burbs. read more

I am torn between wanting to like this place or hating it. I am giving this place a 3 star because of their fast service. Their food---not what I have expected. I ordered their spring rolls---not fresh (drying up rice paper). Ordered seafood clear noodle---the dish came out swimming in broth and the seafood pieces floating like ships at sea (good size bowl but half empty space). The broth tasted more vegetarian---so that might be why it doesn't taste very good. Overall---I really would like to "like" this place---but not sure if I would ever consider coming back. read more

Pho 83 is one of our favorite Asian restaurants in the Twin Cities, and my favorite place to go for Vietnamese food anywhere around. The location isn't that great and you're bound to come out smelling of fried food, but the food is excellent. We're particular fans of the beef pho, Vietnamese-style eggrolls and pan-fried noodles. I have to give special props to Pho 83 for these eggrolls; I haven't found a better eggroll in the Twin Cities. Seriously. We usually order 2-3 plates (two per plate) for just the two of us. Went here for lunch after hearing friends rave about this place. It was just okay. We ordered Vietnamese egg roll and nem nuong rice spring roll for appetizer and pho and grilled beef short ribs and chicken platter. The Vietnamese egg roll is super greasy and oily. I have had a lot better ones at different places. We didnt finish the Nem Nuong Spring roll either. It wS just okay. The kalbi (grilled beef short ribs are pretty decent. It's sweet amd savory, grilled chicken smelled great but didnt have so much taste. Hubby had the pho and he said it didnt have much taste either, my daughter complaint the meat in the pho is tough. Might be back if we are in the area and didnt know what to eat otherwise, would definitely go to another Vietnamese restaurant when craving for Vietnamese food read more

When we first moved to Shakopee we loved this place. The food was always fresh and delicious, you could tell that they cared about the food that they were making. In the past year or so however they have gone wat downhill. We live very close and have ordered several times in the last year and every time has been a disappointment. No matter if we get a chicken or beef dish we end up getting meat that's dried to the point of being jerky. I understand that with the food being take out one should expect to get a somewhat inferior product when compared to dining in, but again. I live 5 minutes away and often get there early to get the food fresh out of the kitchen. The last 2 times I ordered stir fried noodles I ended up getting noodles that were literally the consistency of uncooked ramen, and that's not an exaggeration, there was nothing stir fried about them. I really hope they start caring about the food they serve again because I really did like this place, for now however, we won't be ordering from here. read more

After stating I was there to both hosts separate times. 4 separate parties ranging from 2 people to 4 came in the door while I was waiting for a table. Soon as tables where cleaned the parties that came in 5 to 10 min after I arrived where seated before me and I was still waiting to be seated. This place just lost its zest of smiley happy face with me. Sat down in a booth in the back corner and it had this occasional aroma of stinky feet or B.O. It's a solid pho place. The service has been pretty decent here for the few times that I have visited. My sister and I both got the beef pho and split the cold cut banh mi sandwich. The pho is good, but being from Chicago it's tough to beat a lot of the spots off Argyle. The sandwich is pretty good here. It's crispy and fresh.
