My husband and I ate here today, and ordered their pho (one with rare steak and flank; the other with brisket, trim, and flank). Both medium-sized bowls ($6.50) were very good, with a good amount of tender meat. We would have liked a little bit more beef flavor in our broth, so that is why the 4 stars instead of 5. The staff were very nice, and the place looked clean. At the end of our meal, a male staff brought us each a complimentary small bowl of mung bean with tapioca dessert, which was such a nice and delicious surprise! The young lady at the door and our server were delightful. Yes the wait was long even though we arrived at 5:15. This was due, in part, to the thoughtlessness of a late middle-aged couple who lingered far too long, he on his cell phone and she daydreaming. Yes, they have a right to sit after they eat but when there's a long line on a cold night in a very small place? Have some heart! Anyway, the dumplings weren't anything special. I wonder what all the raves are about. Locally, the vietnamese appetizers at pho factory were far superior and nothing beats the pan fried dumplings at peking restaurant . Next was the hot and sour soup. My gosh! It was so salty it tasted like water from the Great Salt Lake! If I like salt, I'll add my own, thank you. I can imagine that it might not have been so tasty without all the salt i.e. bland but come on, there are many other creative ways to add flavor, no? For my main dish, I tried the #40 & #28. This was less salty but salt was still the first "flavor" that hit my palate. Great consistency but rather boring. In sum, if you like to be served copious amounts of food, this place gets a plus. If you like interesting, ethnic food this place gets a minus. If you try to stay away from salt for taste or health reasons, stay away. Maybe when you order you could ask the chef/server to reduce the salt. read more

The pho here is good but the customer services isn't so good. We asked for refill on water and Sprite but the waiter only came back with sprite and no water. We waited and all the waiters are just sitting down watching the tv and talking..even if the pho here is good, but the customer services is not. I don't think I'll come back to this location when I come back in town due to poor customer services. read more

The Pho is a little above average. The place down the block was much better but it closed down :( Its prices are damn near a bargain and the service is up to par with pho places (food in 5 minutes). Spring rolls were good, but egg rolls I would not order. I actually like mine crispy and not soaked in the oil. read more

I've been out here for almost a year and ate a several pho restaurants.... I know, theres only like a bajillion out here. I always find flaws at each pho restaurant except this one. Their soup is sooooo good. I don't know if its the MSG but the aroma of their soup always get me. I'm kind of glad that this place is not those 50% off places although they do offer a free drink. Don't get me wrong, I love bargains but I don't think pho can go any cheaper than it already is. I love coming to this place right after getting drunk at the club.. It hits the spot! read more

A friend of mine wanted me to try the pho from this place. We went in to order a pho for me to take home to try. It came out to around $7 with tax, which was not bad at all. The pho was ready within 5 minutes. They gave me plenty of veggies which I liked...the condiment packets I could do without, nothing special there. I did not eat the pho until after work the next day. The broth was very tasty and did not give me the MSG thirst or headache afterwards. There was plenty of cooked meat, I could have used another slice or two of the rare steak. The veggies were plenty just the way I liked it. They left the noodles raw so that the texture would be perfect. I must say that eating pho from a place like this makes me not want to visit any of the local pho places we have out here in the IE. Too bad I live further away...it's great to see pho available until 3 am...just like overseas when I was growing up. My preferred restaurant of choice when it comes to the matter of pho down here in Orange County. Originally from San Jose, I've had my fair share of awesome pho and to be honest, the crap that's being sold in Irvine where I attend school is pathetic. I always attempt to make the journey out to Pho 54 to get my fix when needed. Yes, I do understand that their pho soup is a little cooler than preferred sometimes and also that their service is lackluster at times, but the fact of the matter is, $6.25 + a free drink with very fresh greens and veggies is a steal. I can take my lady friends out here and spend a respectable $13 for two large bowls of pho and an orgy in my mouth. I've been to essentially every pho place in Irvine and a good amount outside of our little bubble town, and Pho 54 will always be my safe haven to cure my hangover and/or late night munchies. The only bad thing I have to say about this place is that they raised their prices up a dollar for all the pho since summer and also that they're not open 24/7. Damn! Nonetheless, good pho, good price, and even better, pwnage. read more

Been here twice now, and yup, it was just as good as the first time. I've had pho a few times but have never been impressed with it . Then a couple of months ago, we ended up at this place, and I thought it was great! But was I just hungry and didn't know any better? Nah. The people we were with (4 others) are all pho lovers, and they did say it's definitely better than many out there - good broth. Free drink with meal (which apparently isn't unusual), bowl of noodles for $5.25. I have no problems with that! I would pass on the Thai iced tea, though - more milky than tea-like. Have a soda. Crowded too. Service was just OK, just so you know, but we'll be back again for sure. read more

I've been coming here for over 14 years and I still come here regularly. To Rin who reviewed before me, if you've been to other Vietnamese restaurants, you will know that 95% of them are just like this place. Loud, cash only, Vietnamese speaking only, and you have to ask for everything you need such as refills, water, and advertised free stuff. If anyone knows, Viet places don't just give away things freely or when un-asked! This is normal behavior to me so it doesn't bother me when I go to a Viet restaurant. An American restaurant, I would expect differently. I always get the same thing here, their Well Done Flank Steak Pho. Something about their broth here is fresh and flavorful and the place is somewhat clean. I have tried their Spring Rolls which are above average compared to other restaurants. Their Bun and Rice dishes are pretty good as well. They now have a $3.95 menu which consists of about 4 or 5 tasty looking dishes. One was a Sauteed Mushroom Steak served with fried eggs, rice and soup. For $3.95 that is a deal! They do have a free drink promotion going on where you get a free beverage with your meal. The $3.95 menu excluded though. This place is now open late so if you want to go somewhere safer than Pho Thanh then hit up this joint after the club! read more

ITS SO GOOD!!!! its one of only a few pho places at which ill eat.... yum yum yum....i first came to pho 54 when i was like 9 with my friend laurie and her family... flash forward to 2008 im there again with my home boy johnny gettin my grub on when it hits me... " i should bring my other friends here.." so i did and they love it too..... truth is, the service at pho 54 is pretty mediocre, but the food is bomb diggity, and the little crunchy rice and honey things you get at the register are the icing on the cake.... lol 5 stars for me all day. read more

We came here at 1:30am, right after we stepped foot into this fine establishment the trash talk came immediately by 3 or 4 of the waiters. They talked so much trash about us and every table of customers they had about their looks and what they're wearing etc. They spoke in Vietnamese though of course so you wouldn't understand. Came here after 11hrs in Disneyland. We wanted something warm to heat up our innards. My beef stew egg noodle was gone within 10 mins, and the beef was super tender. YUM. They gave us extra limes and lots of basil to complement our soups. read more

To be honest, I come here for the free drink (great lemonade!). Plus it's open until 3 am. The pho is mediocre. Too greasy. And I haven't had great experience with the other dishes. Don't appreciate the two huge TVs on either end of the restaurant either. It's impossible to avoid looking at them while eating and trying to hold a conversation. read more

It pains me to give this place 2 stars since this defined my childhood. I have no idea what happened, as in if management changed or all their cooks retired, but ever since 4-5 years ago, it has been dissatisfying. The soup is watered down, the meats are extremely chewy, and the chicken has no real chicken to it, mostly fat. To flavor up the watered down soup, they added extra condiments that gives its soup its 500% daily intake of sodium. If you add too much spice to the meal, you better run to the liquor store next door to purchase water, they will probably never refill your water. read more

I won't complain about the pho because there's nothing wrong in this department. HOWEVER...customer service here is absolutely horrid. The older gentleman has always helped me, but even when the restaurant is empty it feels as if he wants to rush me out. Their drinks are relatively inexpensive, but the last time I was there I was incorrectly charged for an extra drink because there was a miscommunication btwn refill vs new drink. The server had no recollection of me ordering the drink before. In all honesty would I go again...No because there are far more other places in the area. read more
