Salmon with rice. Great option during lent
Marie V.

We've been to this location for years. Always order the shaking beef and salmon with rice. My husband likes the crunchy rice and soft for me. Parking can be tight during peak hours and weekends. I also love their free herbal teas.

My friends and I came here on a whim to eat before getting matcha next door at Viland. We were very satisfied with our meal! I took pictures of our food, which looked delicious, but I thought it would be good to show how we literally all emptied our bowls completely. I ordered the beef stew pho, one friend ordered wonton noodle soup with yellow noodles, and another friend ordered congee. All meals come with a cup of sweet tea. We couldn't figure out what tea it was... maybe chrysanthemum? But it was VERY sweet. A lot of Vietnamese restaurants are cash only but they take card here.

Pho ap chao bo aka beef chow fun is the best here. Comes with a side of their special spicy soy sauce so you can control the saltiness. Love that they give you a free chrysanthemum tea with each entree, even for to go orders! Portions are great value! Could feed two or perfect leftovers for the next day. After dining in and getting more entrees to go, they gave us an additional free bottled drink to go.

Great food and friendly service. The government you complimentary tea Always comeback for the crispy salmon.

Pretty convenient late night Vietnamese diner open until midnight. Food and service was fast. Cash only! Plenty of parking. Portions were large and straightforward. No frills and free herbal drink. Actually decent amount of people getting food but no wait at 11pm.

I used to come here quite often in my salad years! I have not been here in years. This strip mall changed drastically. I did not like the fact that as soon as I entered the woman there asked for my name, I have not even looked at the menu to order anything yet, the restaurant was empty! I ordered wonton soup and seafood chowmein, the wonton was good but the broth was bland. The chow mein was so tasteless, it was strange they added a lot of Chinese sausages that changed the taste of the chow mein, too much rubbery fish and not enough of shrimp and no scallop or even squid, I did not like it, I forced myself to eat a little bit and unfortunately I had to throw the rest out. The free herbal drink tasted weird, I went next door to buy a sugar cane drink. The bill came out to $32. 3 stars is a generous rating.

Salmon With Grilled or Steamed Rice / Com Nuong Ca Salmon

The food is home style and could work on the seasoning. Salmon with crispy rice - overall bland and the sauce served with it is the saving grace. Stir fried noodles - unlike the salmon it was a salty. The lup cheong pieces alone were salty so the dish itself could've done without it.

Love this place! Super nostalgic but also hits the spot whenever I'm in Bolsa. Staff are super kind and sweet whenever I go. The salmon is my go to! My group and I went pretty late at night and it was still popping with a lot of people so you know it's good!!

I always get the bo luc lac, so so good and for a very good price and their noodle wonton soup is really good too

I'm from San Jose, but I always come here whenever I vacation in SoCal because my boyfriend loves this place. We usually come for the crispy salmon rice alone. This time, we still got the salmon crispy rice but I also ordered the Hu tieu luc dinh ky to try because I was craving soup. The crispy salmon rice was as good as I remembered it being the last time I came here. Not sure how they get the perfect crispness but they did. The sauce and veggies that come with the plate completes the dish as a whole. Even if you don't really like fish or seafood, I think many people would enjoy it. Now, the Hu tieu luc dinh ky was good too. The only thing I didn't like was that the noodles inside were the thin noodles like pho. Most Hu tieu restaurants I go to use the flat, white and thick noodles. I wished I knew this because I would have ordered it with the mi (yellow noodles) instead. The Hu tieu was still good nonetheless. The broth was flavorful and savory, you don't really get tired of sipping the soup. Some of the meat like the chicken in the soup was overwhelming for me to eat because it was so thick. I wished they had cut it into smaller pieces, but it's okay. I'll be back here still every time I come back to socal. Now at least I know what to order for next time when I'm craving the soup along with the crispy salmon rice hehe. Also, the complimentary drink they give you with your order is so refreshing. A great audition to have with the meal.

Easy parking + no wait time + no frills + friendly service + staple location for Vietnamese cuisine. I brought my boyfriend to try the com nuong bo luc lac ($16) and com nuong ca salmon ($16) which each comes with a complimentary chrysanthemum tea. Food is delicious as always. :)

#: crispy salmon & crispy rice

My dear husband went after work to pick me up some goodies after I told him I was craving some food after watching some food reels. He got me one of their popular items on their menu, the #3 crispy salmon with crispy rice. It was easy to place an order over the phone, and they were very nice during the pick up. They even gave a free iced tea to go. Glad they accept cards too without an extra charge. I enjoyed the crispy salmon. It was still crispy when he brought it home. And I really enjoyed the crispy rice & sauces it came with. Looking forward to trying more on the menu.

Whenever I'm in Garden Grove, Korean and Vietnamese cuisine will always take precedence. However,…read moremy most recent trip pivoted from the norm, and Noodle Star became the destination. The end result? Reasonable prices, warm service, and very tasty food. Like so many Chinese restaurants, the name and theme is inherently confusing. Up until last year, the place was Harbor Garden and it's rebranded to Noodle Star ever since. The Chinese name ("川粵" aka "Chuan Yue") would imply there is a Sichuan + Cantonese component to the offerings, despite the words "teppanyaki" and handmade noodles (手工麵) noted on the exterior as well as on signs on the interior. Typically any restaurant that dabbles in multiple regional Chinese variations (Sichuan, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Lanzhou, etc.) is a huge flight risk. Surprisingly, it all worked out. All of my orders were from different regions of the country, starting with a Cantonese beef chow fun (乾炒牛河) that was delightfully smokey from the wok hei (#1) and the noodles and beef were silky and smooth. While the noodles aren't as wide as I would have liked, they were still 100% workable in the dish. The Taiwanese style popcorn chicken (鹽酥雞) was wonderfully fried and the chicken was still juicy on the inside. Their napa cabbage + shrimp + pork steamed dumplings (白菜豬肉蝦水餃) were pillowy soft and steamed perfectly. They were plump and not too doughy; which is very appropo for a northern Chinese dish. The biggest surprise may have come from the soup dumplings (小籠包), which had just the right amount of soup and a very delicate dumpling skin that was downright excellent. The service was kind, attentive, and very bilingual with Mandarin and English. Prices might feel high to non-Cali folks, but the spectrum is very much on the Socal average. (#2). Bathrooms were mostly clean and the seating options were plentiful; solid for large and small group action. Parking can be tough on the weekends since it's a strip mall. I already know that I'll be back. If I was able to order 4 regions and they all came out excellent (#3), I can only imagine how excellent the rest of the house special group of dishes will be. __________ (#1) "Essence of the wok" -- it's a thing. (#2) At $15-19 for most dishes. (#3) Did we get lucky?

This helped us get a table much faster than we would have than if we had just shown up and waited. We ordered the large family meal, and there were 12 of us. We also ordered the Newport Lobster, fish fillet with black bean sauce, and an extra shrimp fried rice. Overall, I think the food was good, and the prices are reasonable (except the lobster, which was pricey, as you might expect from anything listed as "market price"). Most of us in the group thought the fish fillet with black bean sauce was the best. I thought it was very good, but not necessarily fantastic. (There are other Chinese restaurants that do it a little better.) The sauce was very good, but the fish wasn't quite as tender as it can be. Definitely a solid 4 stars. Other dishes were good. I think the scallop soup could have been great for some people, but my wife and I both hate cilantro, and there was a ton of cilantro. The pork was also good, and my friends thought the clams were also really good. I found the fried rice a bit bland. And for both the lobster and the crab, they could have made them a little easier to eat by cracking the shells a bit more for us. I hate fighting with my food ... And there was a fair amount of fighting on these 2 dishes. The lobster cost almost much as all the other dishes combined. It certainly looked amazing. And the sauce was very good. But I found most of it a bit overcooked. Maybe it was our fault for asking for a big one. Maybe a smaller lobster might have been cooked a little less. The great sauce (along with the fighting with the shell) might have covered up the fact that the meat was actually a bit tough and rubbery. I don't think I'd order this again. The service was very friendly and pretty fast. And, again, other than the lobster, the pieces were pretty reasonable.

Our family joked around and would say let's go to the travel agency restaurant when we had a craving for Chinese/Vietnamese type of food. I recall the food back then was extra tasty and memorable, leaving me wanting to return again and again. However, my recent lunch outing with my girlfriends changed my mind. Our servers were attentive and friendly. I think it helped that my friend was a familiar customer. We came on a Monday afternoon around 11:30 and It was early enough where parking was still available. We ordered the classic dishes, including salt and pepper fried pork chopsand salt and pepper fried shrimp, but the taste this time around left a lot to be desired. These two dishes lacked the crunchiness and flavors that these fried entrees are supposed to showcase. We found the pork chops to be dry and tough, as if it was prepared a while ago and sitting out for some time before it made its way to our table. The shrimp was not impressive either. At least the shaking beef or bo luc lac was good. The beef chunks were tender, and the flavors were on point. Bonus points for the broth that is complimentary during lunch. Also the complimentary orange slices were a nice touch to end our meal. We'd still return for the lobster and noodle when the occasion comes up.
