I ordered the fresh spring rolls and the #13 pho. Both were DELICIOUS!! Also, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.

My go to place for pho, my go to order is #14 haha. I like their bahnmis as well but I normally come here when I'm craving pho. Broth, noodles, topping have been consistently great over the 3 years that I've come. There might be only one or two visits where something disappointed. You know it's a bad sign when many high reviews of a restaurant mention that it's the only decent place in the neighborhood.... Today my husband and I came here for lunch and decided we would try the banh mi. I ordered the banh mi platter, which included a sandwich, beef broth, and an order of egg rolls. He ordered the sandwich only. First, the appetizer. The "homemade egg rolls" tasted suspiciously like frozen lumpia from the grocery store. Definitely eyebrow raising behavior...but I have to say they were pretty tasty. Second, the beef broth. It's their regular pho broth, but it was waaay too salty to drink as a soup. Finally, the banh mi. I am not lying when I say that mine literally had no meat on it, just a thin layer of what I assumed was pate and loads of pickled vegetables. All I could taste was the pickle juice. Also, my bread was too hard in some parts. My husband's had meat that just didn't taste right. So we ate what we could and left hungry. The moral of the story is that you should just stick to the pho here. If I was reviewing this place for the pho, I would probably give it 2-3 stars. But based on my banh mi lunch, I give it half a star. On a side note, this place appears to be chronically understaffed...our server was doubling as a busboy and janitor and just sort of checked out midway through service and just kept on checking the bathroom. I kept seeing these restaurants all around town...Columbia Heights...Adams Morgan...so when I passed the one at Van Ness I decided I was going to have some Pho. The weather has cooled down and soup is indeed good food! I got the number 22 on the recommendation of the friendly and helpful waitress. Service was decent considering the fact that it got really busy right after I came in and there were only two people working the inside and outside tables. Food came quickly and was delicious! Was expecting more noodles but they are heavy on the meat. I liked that the waitress explained to me how to layer my soup with flavors. I also liked that they provided fresh mint, lime, sprouts, and sauces to add to my soup. I seasoned it to taste and I will definitely be back. Probably a lot once the weather gets cold. Looking forward to comparing the other two locations now. read more

Coming from LA, I had very strong opinions on pho, ramen and Asian cuisine in general. Pho 14 is the top pho shop I've found in the District. Fairly inexpensive for the area ($7-9ish) and can be highly addictive. My roommates and I go AT LEAST once a week. And you know it's legit because it has random numbers in the name. read more

Im a regular here.The steamed rice with chicken is good. I order this with a side of steamed broccoli. The fried veggie egg rolls make a good app. My mom says they're too hard but I like my egg rolls a step before burnt. As for Pho, a regular bowl with the flank steak is so comforting. Delicious and welcome addition to the neighborhood. Vegetarian pho with steamed tofu was filling and tasty. So were the spring rolls, and a smoothie. Everything tasted fresh, and the physical space (admittedly on its opening day) was immaculate. Service, as others have said, was enthusiastic, prompt, and attentive. The cook in the kitchen was very courteous and professional. The waiter however, was unprofessional and mostly unhygienic. I'm talking about a guy whose fingers are constantly in his nostrils, coughing and snorting. He is not attentive enough to work in a restaurant. Consistently delicious pho and excellent service! I had never tried pho before a friend recommended this place a few months ago - now I'm basically an addict! The broth at Pho 14 is delicious; well seasoned without being too oily or fatty-tasting. Combined with perfectly cooked meat, noodles, and generous serving of bean sprouts, mint basil, and lime slices on the side, this is a hearty meal that will leave you feeling full but not weighed down. If you want a caffeine/sugar boost at the same time, try Pho 14's Thai iced tea or Vietnamese iced coffee, both of which are served mixed with sweetened milk. Yum. Try the pho as take out too! They package certain cuts of meat raw so that you can cook them in the broth when you're ready to eat your pho, avoiding the overcooked meat so typical of take out or delivery food. Awful. We came here because we were craving some good Vietnamese food since we hadn't had any in a few days and when we found one by our hotel, we were stoked. The waiter was close to incompetent and the food was beyond underwhelming. As a Vietnamese person who grew up eating pho on a regular basis, I was a little irritated with how bad the pho was. I cannot believe they charged $25 for essentially two flavorless broths with a few noodles and ONE meatball. For these prices, I could've gotten double this portion at home. And the rice my uncle ordered was truly awful. The meat we ordered was pretty standard and easy to make. Back home, I probably could've made it. When it came out, it was essentially just beef jerky with a little bit of seasoning. Honestly would never come back and I recommended steering clear of this place. read more

I love Vietnamese food, and this place fell quite short of expectations. The beef skewer was both greasy and a bit tough. The grilled shrimp in the vermicilli were smallish and also greasy, not plump and fresh. The flavors of all three of our entrees were average at best. I'm a new fan of this delicious, affordable restaurant. Try the crispy, tasty eggrolls, then order the chicken noodle soup--or try the seafood noodle soup. The food is always fresh, and the waitstaff is prompt and helpful with menu items for those unfamiliar with Vietnamese cuisine. They provide fresh, pungent basil and peppers for all of their soups and dishes. Also, try one of their fried rice dishes: tasty, but not greasy. I just moved to DC, from Los Angeles. It was a cold Sunday and pho really sounded great after a night out. I was impressed by the selection that they had available. I got the pho that had all types of meat, including the meatballs. I got a regular sized pho. It was delicious! They were very generous with the meat portions and the broth was also good. Although, it did feel a little heavier than what I'm normally used to, but I did not mind. I also ordered a size of spring rolls, which I was happy with. But they were really small. Hey pho 14, not cool. I was also really excited that a pho place had opened up in van ness, because all the other good vietnamese restaurants are far away. However, their ordering system sucks and they did not make their delivery radius clear. First, the website had NO contact information to call by phone, so I had to do it online. However, online, there were menu options missing AND once I went to try to pay, there was no option to use credit card. There was also no option for Delivery. So, I had to click on pick up from the restaurant, and then call in to have them change it to delivery. They said it would take 45 min, but 45 min later, I didn't receive a call from the driver. So, I called them, and they said that they hadn't even processed my order, and that they actually didn't deliver outside a 2 mile radius. That was NOT stated on their website. They said they could do it for me this one time, but since my address was 3 miles away from the restaurant, it would take another 45 minutes. I canceled and won't be ordering from them again. Pretty good pho here although it tastes a bit more sweet and cinnamony than I'm used to. The waitress somehow lost the credit card of the table next to us between the register and their table and could not locate after a 30 min search. That was amusing and sad at the same time. read more

It's safe to say when one orders take out it's because they have no interest in, desire to, or perhaps even ability to cook. So imagine my surprise when I ordered pho for pickup, walked it home from the restaurant, and found that the meat that I expected to be in the soup part was actually in the container with the broccoli, onions, and noodles, RAW, UNCOOKED, and wrapped in bloody plastic wrap... Is this a thing? Upon further investigation the internet told me that pho places sometimes do this and that the idea is that the hot broth cooks the meat when poured over it. Well the broth I got was lukewarm and sure as hell wasn't going to be capable of cooking raw meat even a little bit. Had to throw the meat on the stove, cook it, then put it in the broth. Long story short, don't get take out if you don't intend to cook your own food. They still deserve three stars because despite the unexpected labor I had to put into preparing my meal the pho itself was pretty darn good. read more

I feel like Pho 14 has gone downhill. The pho is okay but I don't like anything else on the menu. Portions are small and not very fulfilling. The beef is tough and gristly and the shrimp has a chemical aftertaste. I wasn't a fan of the egg roll, and the Thai iced tea was way too small to be $4. Fortunately, the people working here area really nice and friendly, but that's a minor consolation when the food is sub-par. read more

This place is worth about three and half stars, it is good but not amazing. There is a good selection on the menu, and I thought the fried spring rolls are good. The pho itself is decent, there is a good amount of sides/noodles/meat, the broth could be a bit better though. There are better options around if you're willing to travel to Rosslyn or the Eden Center in Falls Church or get lucky with the food trucks. But if you live closeby and have a pho craving this place is worth going to. read more

My friend and I came in and was sat at the table. We waited about ten minutes. Meanwhile, one man came in was seated and given a menu. Then a family came in and was seated and given menus. We were not even given menus, so we waited for a bit more but noticed that the man was able to place an order and even received his drink. The family ordered and still waiters walked by us and said nothing. We decided to leave because of the poor customer service and honestly we believe that it was because we are Black. We were the only Black people in the restaurant and we weren't given proper service. read more

The roasted pork banh mi meal is such a great deal! Only $9! It comes with an appetizer and a bowl of beef broth with scallions. So delicious! I usually get the sandwich without pâté because I'm not a fan of pâté. My favorite appetizer is the summer rolls. Your meal won't be complete without an avocado smoothie- I don't know what they put in it but it's so creamy and delicious. Why not 5 stars? The staff isn't very friendly. I still go back though. The only reason I didn't give this location five stars is because of my service yesterday evening. I love Pho 14's other two locations and frequently eat in/order carryout from them. Unfortunately, I had to spend my meal listening to the entire wait staff hanging out at the table next to mine, loudly discussing the girls they were sleeping with, and complaining about all the one-tops walking in (I was one of them). If this place gets its act together and tells its wait staff to gossip in the back of the house instead of near its diners it'll be a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

I like that the Van Ness 'food desert' has more options these days and I enjoyed the quiet, gardenlike vibe when eating in the restaurant once with my family. The food would get 2-3 stars from me, good but not memorable. My complaint is that when I ordered carry out and asked for both condiments (one fish and one chili sauce) per bowl, rather than one or the other, it was met with total confusion. Once the carry out was brought to me, I was told they could only include one fish sauce per bowl, and threw in one sweet chili for all three bowls to share out of kindness (any more would be extra). And that was it. In my books, when a customer spends forty plus bucks plus a tip for preparation on carry-out, throw in extra sauce if requested. At Sprig and Sprout in Glover Park the dishes are fresh and fragrant and the sauces are self serve. I couldn't help comparing. read more
