Ordered a large pho and fried egg rolls. Only one piece of lettuce for my two egg rolls. I thought it was odd that they gave me lemon instead of lime for the pho. The broth had a little too much anise flavor and there wasn't a lot of meat. I had to add a lot of hoison and sriracha to get it to a flavor I liked. read more

Quaint, quiet little pho establishment in the Van Ness neighborhood. Friendly and fast service, and the restaurant is an escape from the fast-paced city streets. The prices are excellent for the portion sizes, and our waiter was nice and helpful. Haven't tried the actual pho yet, but I had the Bun Tong Nuong (vermicelli with grilled shrimp, bean sprouts, cucumber, and peanuts served with sweet thai chile sauce). It was perfection. Fresh, bright, salty, sweet, crunchy. All the great food adjectives. My husband had one of the rice dishes which he loved as well. I don't remember what he had exactly because I was way too immersed in my meal. We look forward to going back to try the pho once the weather cools down a bit. DC summers don't exactly make you crave hot soup. I would have a hard time ordering anything besides the Bun Tong Nuong I had last time because it was that satisfying. I'm so glad that Pho 14 opened in the midst of the otherwise culinary desert that was call the van ness metro station area. It's automatically one of the best dining options in the area. I came here with a group with dinner, and tried both the pho #1 and the grilled-short rib rice, and were very solid options. The service was a little slow and absentminded so I can't give five stars, but I will definitely return in the future, especially to try the bahn mi sandwiches that were calling out to me but whose voices I ignored during that first visit. read more

We had such a great lunch here! Our waitress Tammy was excellent, she was very friendly, offered to split our bowl of pho and even split our mango smoothie into two glasses. Pho 14 is a good spot for dependable pho that doesn't disappoint. Fast service and the taste and quality of the pho is consistent. It's not the best pho ever but it definitely hits the spot when the hunger pangs hit. I've had the banh mi as well and that was okay but the pho is definitely the best thing on the menu. Pho 14 is a great pho restaurant and has certainly earned it's various Asian/Vietnamese/Pho accolades. The atmosphere is casual, with several televisions in corners, but m not enough to distract entirely from conversation. The are very friendly and helpful, open to answering any questions. I was informed that "everything about the pho is gluten free" and this was confirmed by the delicious meal that I had. The dark meat chicken was great and the broth was not salty, but rather flavorful without relying on too much sodium. I will certainly be going again. tl;dr -. Great food, atmosphere, and staff. Best pho in all the land. No really, there is one in the Shaw area that is also really good but this one is top of the top. I always come here for lunch and occasionally on cold winter nights. Pho 14's Vermicelli noodles and coffee was delicious. I really didn't want to stop eating. The cucumber was spiraled in light, crisp ringlets; the noodles melted in my mouth, and the pork was tender but thoroughly cooked. Bottle and sell your coffee, it was strong, but just sweet enough to wash down my noodles. The Banh Mi at the 14th Street location was okay, the bread's not fresh enough, you guys should definitely get a marketing intern. Your restaurant's not famous enough, last time you were in Best of DC was 2014 or 2016? Decor's nice, love the outdoor seating at this location. Such good food, also the bartender, Kim at the 14th Street location provided the best service, she was friendly and polite. Can you guys add Banh Duc Tom Chay to the menu? I hate to give this place a 3-star because there are not many good pho places in DC and this is one of the only decent pho restaurants near Dupont circle, but Pho 14 is average at best for a landscape filled with mediocrity. Let's talk about appetizers. Now, I know some of us go to a pho place for pho and pho only. You have the hankering for pho and need to satiate it. I get it. I've been there, I'm there, and I'm often on my way there for that one reason and one reason alone. If I were to rate this place solely on pho, then I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. But there's an exception to this craving -- it's the desire to amplify your experience with appetizers. That's where the iconic spring rolls come in. I've tried the spring rolls at least 5 times and they taste the same each and every time: garbage. I'm not using that in the metaphorical sense, I'm using that literally: they taste like garbage. Clearly, I'm not supplementing my diet with a regular helping of garbage from my local dumpster, but we often associate taste based on smell, and boy, do the the taste of these egg rolls remind you of the smell of garbage. It's very, very clear that these egg rolls are either purchased from a vendor with various quality and left in the freezer for months, or they are "home made" and left in the freezer for months. Either way, these things represent trash from both the literal and metaphorical point of view. They have such a nasty after taste that even dunking them in fish sauce is unable to mask the putrid taste. I gave them chance after chance for months and it always resulted in disgust. For comparison, Pho Viet on 14th street represents the epitome of good, unhealthy yet delicious spring rolls. Pho 14 takes the approach of 'wide and shallow,' providing mediocrity across the board with various pho dishes and appetizers, instead of a relatable comparison, Pho 75 in Arlington, where the approach is narrow and deep, providing nothing but PHO and PHO FAST. Pho at Pho 14. What can I say? It gets the job done but nothing spectacular. The tripe is pretty good. The flank and brisket is decent. The tendon is good but not great. The broth is tasty, sure. It, all around, meets the need for your pho craving, but it won't blow your mind away. It embraces mediocrity and affordable prices. The targeted audience for its location are locals and tourists visiting the surrounding area, so why try hard? The dish just speaks volumes of "meh" but will get you your quick fix. It's not coming out steaming hot Service. Service varies and honestly I can't blame them too much when they're such an average and relatively low-priced place. That being said, I want to always give a good tip and it's frustrating when you know your server isn't working hard for 20%. It varies based on who you get but there were plenty of times, after being the industry myself for 3 years, that I'm thinking "there's no one in the restaurant, why aren't you paying attention?" It just adds to the already average experience. Pho 14 definitely wins the award for "Exceptional adherence to a multipronged approach for providing the most average pho experience in DC." As mentioned above, if it were closer, I'd go to Pho 75 every time for Pho hands down. Unfortunately, all I have close by that is decent enough is Pho 14. No one else even comes close to quality besides Pho Viet off of 14th street, and they're far away in the land of Columbia Heights. TL;DR: If you're desperate for Pho and need a place, Pho 14 does the job, but don't expect the job to be done well. When you're starving, even bread crumbs taste delicious. read more

I'm not expert on either Vietnamese food or pho, but I'm very fond of this place. Unlike the pho, other items on the menu are mediocre. But pho is its selling point, it's only fair to judge it by that dish. Broth is hot, rich and complex. Meat is well cooked, and decent enough quality condiments are fresh, and the quantity of meat and noodles is very generous. This place is not a gourmet eating spot. Have had multiple bad experiences ordering pickup from this place. They will tell you to show up at a given time, then take 15-20 extra minutes to get your food with no acknowledgement or apology...kinda defeats the point of pickup, no? They also often get the order wrong and seem mad when I point it out. The pho is pretty good (hence the 2 star review) but the noodles are sometimes a little sketchy looking. Not sure about the sandwiches - they are often very skimpy with the meat, which is chewy anyway. Also, my last one kind of tasted like garbage...imagine the taste of an improperly-cleaned garbage disposal, somehow in sandwich form. So yeah...don't get the sandwiches, and don't order pickup. read more

It is so dangerous to have delicious pho so close to my apartment. For me and many of my friends, pho is the ultimate light comfort food. Their vegetarian broth is made of aromatic apples, and feels like a hug you can eat. The service is generally quick, the prices are low, and many of their appetizers are delicious too! Van Ness street area needed this. We went for a quick bite on a Sunday afternoon (1:30pm) and were seated immediately. Ordered a few staples: vermicelli bowl with pork and a beef banh mi. I was very pleasantly surprised to hear that the sammie came with a full order of my choice of appetizer (chose the tasty veg spring rolls) and a side soup broth. I've definitely seen bigger vermicelli bowls at other places, but this one was fresh and delicious and frankly they are usually too big anyway (doesn't stop me from over-stuffing myself). The banh mi was also nice, although I don't know if its just me but I feel like it could have had more flavor. Either way, for some 5-6 dollars it was a ridiculous steal. I would split that with another girlfriend and be happy. Overall, 100% yes. Could the flavors be a little sharper on these items? Sure. But I am really not complaining. I'd love to go back for a pho. Finally Van Ness got something decent in the area. I've had their banh mi combo meal, which includes a side of your choice and beef broth (vegetable broth available upon request). I get the spring rolls as a side. The food is fresh and delicious, and the staff are very nice. read more

Ask for the rare beef, it is not specifically on the menu like it is at home but a better choice than the fattier cuts. Large was about the same as the small just slightly larger. Pho 14 is great. I am a huge fan of the Columbia Heights location, and was super excited when they opened the one in my neighborhood. The service at the restaurant leaves a little to be desired, and it is definitely not a fine dining experience. But take out is always good. Love the food. Obviously, the pho is great. I haven't had a bad experience yet. It can be a little light on the ingredients sometimes, but the broth is delicious. I love the spring rolls, but mainly they're just a vehicle to get the peanut sauce into my mouth. We've also gotten the fried rice and were pleasantly surprised. I'm not a huge fan of the Vietnamese sandwiches- it was fine, just not my jam. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for good pho in DC. read more

Went in for lunch today and ordered a regular bowl of Pho. Food was alright, but when it came to paying the bill, I was disgusted by their practice. The bill came to a total of $10.45 or something like that. I gave a $20 dollar bill but only got $9 back! Yes, like a polite and educated professional, I always leave a tip. My husband and I went during lunch a week ago or so. He ordered the beef banh mi and it came with an appetizer and soup, basically it was beef broth, but some really delicious broth nonetheless. For the appetizer, we got vegetarian spring rolls. Honestly pretty bland and tasteless if it wasn't for the dipping sauce. His sandwich was pretty good and well seasoned. I got grilled chicken and rice, it came with a side of fish sauces and sweet chili. Pretty delicious. Their Thai tea is a bit too sweet, but still passable. The waitress who served us was pretty friendly and when we went, there weren't too many people there, so we got pretty prompt service. It's a nice little place to treat ourselves. read more

I just moved to Van Ness and wanted to try some of the restaurants around my apartment. Thus far, it's only been Pho 14. When to food is that good I don't really see the need to travel much further. I always get the Pho Do Bien. It's amazing. Huge scallops, plump shrimps, and delicious calamari. The broth is AMAZING! I had never tried pho before coming here, always assumed there was no way that it could be filling, but there's just a warm heartiness about their food that fills me up. Now I spend all week waiting for pho night, as my boyfriend and I have been there three times in the month we've lived here. 10/10 would eat there always. read more

This is hands down, my favorite pho place in DC. The service is amazing the second I walk through the door, and these people know how to make delicious pho. Being a vegetarian, I love that they have many veggie options and are super accommodating. They're also great to order from if you want take out or delivery! They store the pho broth separate from the noodles which helps for storing it long term--order a large, or two, and save the broth for a few days in a row! It's delicious and you will not regret. Went here with a friend who lives in Van Ness. The pho was very good, the service was good, and the place was clean. At the time, I was also looking for a pho restaurant to host a large gathering and was disappointed to note that there were not many shareable dishes on the menu, although the manager (Mai) said there were shareable dishes that could be prepared that were off the menu. A follow-up visit by a friend to discuss making arrangements for the large gathering did not go well, as the restaurant seemed to indicate that it was not interested in our business. This is my go-to Vietnamese place. I've only had the pho once so I can't really speak to that. I always get the vermicelli and it is spot-on, total comfort food. The spring rolls are great too. The atmosphere is okay and the service is always efficient. Parking can be challenging but it is worth it. Plus Calvert Woodley is just down the street and I usually stop by after. We stopped by today for their grand opening and it was a pleasant experience. Our waitress, Kim, was very friendly and the food came out very quickly. The spring rolls were tasty, though the dipping sauce was a bit sweet. The gf ordered a regular size bowl of pho with eye round steak and I ordered a large portion with eye round and flank steak. The broth is a bit on the sweeter side compared to that of Pho Viet on 14th St. Both portions contained quite a bit of meat, but seemed to skimp on the noodles compared to that of other pho places I've been to. As this was their grand opening, I received a complimentary Vietnamese iced coffee that was delicious. Pho 14 is instantly the best restaurant in Van Ness, (though perhaps that is not saying much). I will gladly return as I live in the area, but I still would consider Pho Viet to be the superior pho joint. read more

PATHETIC SERVICE!!! We were regulars to their flagship outlet at Columbia Heights and that experience was awesome all round - food, promptness, waiter, ambience. Then they opened one close to our home at Connecticut Ave. We have been coming here sometime now. Although not as great as the mothership the experience had been nothing to complain about BUT all of that changed y'day night. The waiter that was attending us rude, didn't explain the dishes well. We ordered two pho's and should have got two sides but got one. When I asked for another we were told that it is what you get for 2. Really, I've come here at least 5 times and did they change the rule to give one side for two pho's and not one each. When we tried to waive to attract the attention of our waiter, we constantly got ignored. Last order of sandwich came as a 'to go' when we had infact ordered to eat in the restaurant. We politely informed the waiter that the order was not to take away, he just opened the box and put it in front of us to eat. Seriously!!! During all this, me and my guests were were respectful and nice. But the waiter just didn't have the basic etiquettes. Not coming back here ever again!!! read more

I used to go to the original location in Columbia Heights when I lived in Mount Pleasant. It was walking distance from my house and then they started delivering. Well fast forward a year or so and they opened two other locations. I work in Tenleytown and since one opened in Van Ness, it's much closer!
