Have a hankering for Cambodian food? Phnom Penh will scratch that itch. They've been a staple of Vancouver's Chinatown for +40 years. They're well-known, so it was no surprise to see a full house when we walked in. Luckily there's a waitlist. We got added to it, then wandered for ~20 minutes before getting a text to return. Efficient service. Efficient kitchen too, given the crowd. I left happy, and with a food coma: - Highlights: beef skewers - Worth trying (recommend sharing with someone, then ordering another dish): the kho (i.e. kuy teav), served "dry" (i.e. pork bone soup on the side) - Honorable mention: morning glory veggie dish Credit accepted. 4.5 stars rounding up. Otherwise the Khmer aunties will get me.
Came back after three years and got the fried rice and crispy chicken wings. The chicken wings and fried rice were tasty! The wait was maybe 30 minutes but we did come very close to the opening time. Service was great considering how busy they were.
Came early to avoid long wait times, around 4:30-4:45 there was still a 25-minute wait for 2 people. For a small party we only could really order the trifecta: chicken wings, butter beef and bo luc lac. Loved the chicken wings and butter beef. They're as good as everyone says they are and I can understand why they're popular dishes to order. The Bo luc lac was just ok for me. I've had better. Worth trying at least once. Don't think I'd wait 1-2 hours to eat here though.
This restaurant is part of the Michelin Guide and is raved about consistently so I had to stop by and give it a try! The wait times can be lengthy, we went for an early dinner around 4pm on a weekday and still waited about 45 minutes. The ambiance is just as you'd expect, a traditional Asian banquet hall esthetic. They have large round tables for family seatings and it was pretty clean. There was nothing notable about the service, just the usual. We tried the buttered beef, chicken wings, and dry noodles. Buttered beef - this is one of the dishes they're well known for. I was skeptical at first just from the look, but can confirm it was really good. It's definitely one of the more unique dishes to try. I really loved the vinaigrette as it was a great blend of salty, sweet and savory. It paired well with the beef and the beef was tender. Chicken wings - this is another dish that is really popular at the restaurant. I LOVE garlic and there were heaps of it on top! The chicken is extremely crunchy and packed with lots of flavor. I appreciated that they had a small portion since it was just my husband and I dining. Dry Noodles - this dish was underwhelming and a bit disappointing. I love a good dry noodle dish, but the flavor in the sauce was bland. We decided to ask for vinegar and other sauces to add to the dish, but it just still didn't taste right. If I were to come back, I'd probably stick to what they're popular for and maybe try the shaken beef or wet noodle soup instead. This was still a pretty solid restaurant.
Still good chicken wings. I love that the restaurant is huge and has outlets to charge your phones while you eat. Service is fine. Not much ambiance, just people eating and looking happy.
Truly a revelation. The chicken wings and cánh chưa was the best I've ever had. The butter beef carpaccio to start the meal set the tone. The shaken beef was good but was certainly not the star. The star were the wings and hot sour viet soup. They will be the reasons why I will make a yearly pilgrimage up from seattle to visit.
I only hear great things about the wings here and being a lover of fried chicken I made it a point to stop here on my quick trip to Vancouver. We came around 4pm so there was no wait but by the time we left at like 5 there was already a line forming outside. We got the wings and veggie fried rice, and it took a bit of time for the food to come out but that didn't bother us. The portion for the fried rice was MASSIVE and could easily feed 3-4 people. It was good, nothing to standout but a very good classic fried rice. The wings came out after and were hot and crispy. It comes with a lemon pepper sauce on the side, which was super lemony - great if you like that but I wasn't too big a fan of it. The wings were juicy and fresh, though I will say I did expect a bit more flavor. There was only one piece at the bottom that had a generous coat of the seasoning which I thought was super tasty. Overall, good spot! I'm not sure I'd wait super long for it, but glad I got to try.
Street parking only. Located in Chinatown. Came in for a late lunch on a Sunday. It was a packed restaurant. We waited for 30-40 minutes for a table of 5. This is a noisy restaurant with customers talking over each other. This is a typical Asian restaurant so we were okay with the noise. Ordered shrimp papaya salad, beef carpaccio, fried garlic chicken wings, ton yum soup, fried squid, and fried rice to share. Portions were humongous. Everything we ordered was delicious and flavorful. Food came out piping hot so it is cook to order. We had to pack food to go. Will definitely come back again if I am visiting Vancouver.
We arrived a little before 6PM on a Monday with a party of 4 and the wait was about an hour. By the time we were seated, they were turning away diners, so make sure you get here early! The unfortunate downside for getting a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Butter Beef - beefy, garlicky, herby, tangy, sweet, it's got a little bit of everything. Very tender Trieu Chau Fried Rice - this dish is fantastic. One of the better fried rice dishes I have had. It has the wok hay and I would have been perfectly happy just to eat this as a meal Phnom Penh Chicken Wings - the first bite I had, I was not impressed. I dipped it in the lemon juice with pepper and it had some crisp, but was really lacking in flavor. Then we found a small pile of fried garlic near the bottom of the plate. That's where all the salt and flavor was. We put that onto the wings and they were quite good. Wish that was just set to the side at the beginning. Green Papaya Salad - this thing is packed with flavor. I liked it quite a bit, but I thought the beef jerky was an oddball ingredient Filet Beef Luc Lac - thinly sliced beef that is tender and covered in a silky sauce. It was quite salty so it went well with our rice. No major complaints about any of the food and I thought they had some pretty unique takes on dishes. Being Vietnamese myself I had high standards for this restaurant being Cambodian-Vietnamese fusion, It definitely hit the mark! My favorite was the canh chua (sour soup) and butter beef!!! We had a party of 5 and could barely finish all this food. The butter beef melts in your mouth and is so flavorful. The canh chua is so well balanced and I loved the balance of veggies in it. The Phnom Penh dry noodles were a miss. This is the most iconic dish of Viet and Cambodian flavors and it wasn't as great as I'd hoped. It was lacking flavor and bland even with the soup broth on the side. **NOTE** if you want to order crab, you need to call in advance since they only have a limited amount a day. And they buy enough only for those pre-orders DAILY.
Tldr: BUTTER BEEF IS A MUST. Service: we rolled in at 7pm on a Saturday, and they had a 2hr wait.. lol. You should come here first before a year stops around the area and put ur name down. They were quick to get our orders and also put the food down. Ambiance: there is not seating for how popular this place is! Anyway, but its smaller than I had imagined, not exactly a huge place but it is pretty sizable and still not enough because of how popular they are. Food: out of the three things I ordered, definitely the butter beef is an order again 10/10. The beef stew is mid 6/10 but good enough if you are reaally craving it., and I could skip the banh beo altogether. I wish I had ordered the fried chicken, but I've read mixed reviews. Overall maybe if I came back, it would be butter beef a d try other dishes, like the fried chicken and fried rice?
A most stunning tasting experience, I had here at Phnom Penh in Chinatown. PP has been on my radar for some time & I finally made it here. PP has been going strong since 1985 - not an easy achievement in the restaurant industry. PP has that older type restaurant feel inside, but it is very lively as waiters fly by with orders to deliver to tables. Yelpies, order these three items & the say less while you wait for them. Butter Beef (Thinly sliced rare beef) Garlic Wings (heavy on the garlic - FYI) Filet Beef Luc Lac (Tender stir-fried beef) I had a Vietnamese coffee, but it was lame. I've had better elsewhere. The taste of these dishes is orgasmic. I didn't notice nor feel a high sodium content but perhaps maybe a hint of MSG. Regardless, there's a reason why PP has won several awards year after year, including the prestigious - Michelin. Get here ASAP & find out why PP continues to impress foody lovers from everywhere. Warning, this whole area is certified - pure ghetto. Bring your car down here at your own inconvenience. Take transit or uber to get here. Zombies are everywhere. ~ Great Viet Food For Vancouver ~ Coming from SoCal, I would say try the butter beef! I've never had anything like that at an asian restaurant back at home. It was so flavorful and the beef was so soft! The rest of the food was good don't get me wrong, BUT it lacked extra flavor that SoCal food provides. There is always a wait here but their waitlist goes by fast. The service is nice.

The wings alone justify the michelin status of this spot. As we find in the world of restaurants some places can be misleading, what seemed like a humble eatery that perfectly fits in the area at 3pm on a Wednesday, turned out to be a truly delectable experience. I will have to come back with a larger appetite and party to try the other highly recommended dishes! read more

The butter beef was amazing, but I'm not sure if the other food items were worth a 2 hour wait. I did like the sauce that comes with the wings, and would probably feel more positively about the wings overall if I'd come at a less busy time. The noodle soup was did not stand out much to me. Overall, I'd echo what other reviewers have said and agree that the restaurant is worth trying at least once. read more

This has been the it spot in Vancouver and they received a Michelin bib gourmand so I had high expectations! We ordered the most popular dishes, the fried chicken, butter beef, and the beef filet (bo luac lac ) with egg. I was hesitant with the beef since I'm not a fan of tartare but this was so good! The sauce they have on the beef is sweet yet tangy and the beef was so soft! I highly recommend this unique dish to try. I also enjoyed the fried chicken wings. It was fried nicely with a light batter. It was sweet, salty, and peppery. It was a subtle flavor that I really enjoyed. The beef filet was a little disappointing for me because I felt like it was missing something. Toward the end of the dish, I added some hot sauce and poured some of the fish sauce on it and it made it so much better! I thought I would have to wait forever so we came 30 mins before opening and it was fine. We could've showed up right at opening and we'd still get a spot. I think coming on a random Thursday helped tho. I can image the weekend being highly popular and dinner time as well. read more
Very solid Vietnamese/Cambodia food. My wife and I heard many great reviews about the butter beef and the chicken wings, so when we visited Vancouver, we had to try it. It did not disappoint. The butter beef was amazing. The beef was very tender and it seemed to be dressed with a soy based sauce, where usually when I order this dish at other restaurants it's a clear fish sauce based sauce. There's some bright acidity to cut some of the saltiness topped with fried garlic for texture and herbs for freshness. We ordered a small order of chicken wings and felt like it was a pretty generous portion for two people. We saw some other tables order the large, and felt like it could easily feed 4-6 people. It was very crispy, and wonderfully seasoned. Very solid. I love this place, and will definitely be back when I'm in town. read more
Often times when a place is highly touted it falls flat because its reputation is too strong and expectations are too high Not here. This places its great. It's a hole in the wall and is a throw back to 80s style Asian restaurants. But it's unapologetic and fantastic at what they do. We got their most popular dishes: Marinated Butter Beef: our favourite dish. The sauce is very tangy and strong. Mix the beef with the sauce and coriander for a delicious bite. Save the sauce and mix it with other carby dishes to elevate those dishes as well Dry rice noodles: delicious with a great sauce. Must have. Filet Beef Luc Lac on Rice with Egg: my second favourite dish. Make sure to mix in the sauce they provide to give this a tangy depth of flavour. Excellent mix with the creaminess of the running fried egg and the beef. Phnom Penh Deep-fried Chicken Wings: Delicious unique flavour. I don't know how to describe it. But it's not available anywhere else. Try it and have it with the sauce. Trieu Chau Fried Oyster Cake: the only miss for me. It's standard to what can be found in chinese restaurants that serve this. Also it's too oily but that's how the dish is. Service is very friendly and helpful. They stopped by a few times to give us tips on how to eat the food to make sure we got the best experience. Washrooms are dirty though. Classic old school china town experience. Will be back. This place is unique and awesome. read more

Our party ordered pho, luc lac, and chicken wings. Pho was the best I can remember having. Period. Truly wonderful. Flavor was well balanced and authentic. As good as anything I tasted in Vietnam when I was there The luc lac was very nice. I have no experience with luc lac, but I liked this version. read more

Was in Vancouver for a few days and had to try this place as I'd heard a lot of good things. One thing to note, be prepared to wait for a table! Here's what we ordered: * Beef seafood soup noodles served with bean sprout on the side $15 - 6/10 * #71 - Marinated Butter Beef $23.95 - 9/10 * #78 - Phnom Penh Deep Fried Chicken Wings (large) $23 - 10/10 * Stir fried beef with egg on rice $17 - 8/10 * #93 - 2x Vietnamese Coffee with Condensed Milk $6.50 each - 8/10 Highly recommend the marinated butter beef and the deep fried chicken. They were top notch. The butter beef is so unique - it reminds me of a vinegary beef tartare. The chicken was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. The pho however was pretty mediocre sadly. We did have to wait about an hour for our table. We came around lunch time on a Monday afternoon. Service was great. Plenty of seating inside. Paid street parking outside. 20250811 read more

Cuisine: 7 Service: 6 Decor: 6 Value: 6 Overall: Butter Beef is the signature dish at this Cambodian and Vietnamese restaurant. It is a wonderful combination of paper thin sliced rare beef filet, mixed with a ton of fresh cilantro and fried garlic in their special sauce. So darn yummy! Why can't any NYC restaurant make a decent version of this dish? I always get two of these plates for our group of six to eight because there isn't enough to go around. We also typically order the Cambodian Dry Noodles, Fried Chicken Wings, Bo Luc Luc (garlic beef), Garlic Beef Filet cubes (upgraded Bo Luc Luc), and Cha Gio Tieu Chau (deep fried crab rolls). If those are not your jam, the menu has over 100 items to choose from. Fyi, I would stay away from the high ticket items because I don't believe it's their strength. Two examples of what I am talking about is the Fried Dungeness Crab with Black Pepper Sauce and the Salt & Pepper Fried Dungeness Crab. Not bad by any means, just not worth the price. Warning! Extremely popular restaurant, therefore plan accordingly. Either make a reservation for a large group or walk in as soon as they open. They will also set a time limit for the table, but the food comes out quickly and you will have no problems finishing your meal. This place should be on your foodie tour of Vancouver. read more
WOW. I did not think this place was going to be this good. We first tried to come the day we landed but were told that there was going to be a 1.5-2 hour wait. I was highly suspicious because there was no one else waiting outside but when we came back the next day for lunch (9 minutes after they had just opened) we were told that there would be a 45 minute wait. And we actually had to wait 45+ minutes! When we were getting seated, people were being told 1.5-2 hour and they all said yes. I guess everyone just puts their names down and comes back. We ordered the butter beef, fried chicken, steamed clams and a few other items that I can't remember what the names were. But these dishes were all so tasty. The butter beef was especially phenomenal. It was so good I kept the sauce to put on everything else. Service is very friendly. After we ordered (two people), the server told us that it might be too much food so made one of the regular dishes a "small". He must've been shocked when we finished every single last bit because it was so good. read more
I went here with a group of people on August 9th for dinner. We had a movie to catch that night so Phnom Penh was a perfect spot for a delicious dinner! We had 71 Butter Beef ($13.95), 78 Phnom Penh Chicken Wings (large $23), 79 Garlic Squid( large $25), 37 Trieu Chau Fried rice ($19), 68 Green Papaya Salad ($26), 87 Beef Luc Lac ($29), 55 Banh Xeo ($23.50), 61 Bun Cha Gio (rice vermicelli with spring rolls $17), with iced coffee ($6.50). We doubled some of the orders since we came as a group. Papaya Salad, garlic squid, chicken wings, butter beef, spring rolls and Beef Luc Lac were good! Garlic squid had so much garlic in it , so be careful with ordering. Garlic squids also had a similar taste for Phnom Penh chicken wings. Papaya salad was so refreshing! Banh Xeo was fresh and crispy. Fried rice was pretty good too! Food was pretty memorable. It was nice revisiting this restaurant after 10 years. There was also an automatic 18% tips for a total of 16 people dining here including myself. read more
This spot is definitely worth the wait! I have heard Vancouver does great Asian food and this would be my pick for a great representation for the city. The restaurant is a blend of Cambodian, Cantonese, and Vienamese food, and boy it blends them so well. Everything was so good we over ordered and managed to finish it all! Super delicious, fairly portioned, and wide variety. Phnom Penh serves up Cambodian and Vietnamese cuisine. The chicken wings are well worth their hype. Butter beef and vermicelli bowl were also great. Came here early to beat the dinner rush and didn't have to wait. But I've tried to dine here in the past and was given a 1hr+ wait estimate, so plan accordingly. Service was friendly and food came out fast. read more
I had to make time to come to this restaurant because the last time I was in BC I was blown away by their "Butter Beef" and fried chicken! Keep in mind that if you want to come for lunch or dinner, make sure you give yourself extra time because there will be a wait! Wanted to get a table for two, on a Monday, for lunch time and we still had to wait for about an hour. The restaurant is clean and staff is friendly, the restaurant is located around China town area so you would need to use street parking if you're driving. We ordered the: Large Garlic Fried chicken - the pictures make it look like regular friend chicken but this is one of my favourite fried chicken of all time. It's super flavourful, with garlic, lemon grass and pepper. They also give you a peppery lemon sauce to go with the wings. This is a must try! - 23$ - 10/10 Butter beef - Rare thin sliced beef with garlic parsley and a tangy soy sauce, sounds simple but this dish is absolutely packed with flavour and is very unique! This is also a must try! - 24$ - 10/10 Stir fried beef with egg on rice - very tasty (nutty) sauce stir fried with broken beef, simple but very delicious. - 17$ - 9/10 Beef seafood soup noodles - clean tasting broth, with thin rice noodles and assorted seafood and sliced beef. - 15$ - 7/10 Ice Vietnamese coffee - strong, tasty coffee with condensed milk - 6.5$ - 9/10 Overall, this was worth the wait! I will definitely be coming back the next time I visit BC, highly recommend! The only thing is that next time I wouldn't order so much for two people because it was too much food and the bill came out to 100$ before tips. read more
I've heard so much about this restaurant and finally went under a reservation with a group of six friends. Just a note that if one person is not able to show up, the reservation will be canceled as the minimum party size is 6 (we had to reschedule due to this policy). The restaurant was very busy when we went and I think for people going without reservations, wait times can be up to an hour! In terms of food, the marinated butter beef was definitely my favourite dish. It was very flavorful and the texture of the beef was incredible (it was soft and thinly sliced). We also got a lot of other dishes to share but I think this restaurant is known for their butter beef and deep fried chicken wings, which I'd also recommend. read more

I especially loved the raw beef not the same as tartar you have elsewhere is very Asian touched with cilantro loaded :P some dishes were light on seasoning like the chicken wings but still very tasty Service****// even they are super busy you still get service in timely manner like water, boxes and check. Been here since before the bib gourmand and after a solid 7 or more visits here, I can pretty confidently say Phnom Penh has not let me down. Chicken Wings - these come yeet lat lat (pipin' hot, one might say), crispy, and packed with garlicky citrus in each bite, but only if you distributed the topping well :] tbf my friend visited once and unfortunately thought it was mid. BUT I get these every visit, once for takeout, and have yet to complain about anything. Butter Beef - love the look, beef is tender, and sauce is refreshingly sour with enough umami. I must say it's not my type of dish, but I see the appeal. Oyster Pancake - my mom is obsessed and I've grown to love it too. She seems a bit pricey but she's airy, crispy and bouncy all in one bite- I like her quite a lot. Solid choice. Beef Luc Lac - tasty and satisfying dish. A suitable menu item for the standard protein + rice pairing. No photos for most dishes because my guest(s) and I rarely hesitate to go gremlin mode and absolute demolish them. read more
Multiple people recommended this spot as a must-try in Vancouver. Between two people we tried a bunch of dishes, including the Butter Beef (so unique!), wings (light and crispy), fried rice (huge portions), calamari (incredibly flavorful and not too chewy at all), and I'm glad we did. First time in Vancouver, and the spot that came highly recommended was Phnom Penh, and TLDR - definitely worth the visit and try! Let's start with the chicken wings (which they are famous for). These had to be some of the tastiest wings I've had in a long time. Crunchy, juicy, and that vinegar salt/pepper sauce for dipping was unreal. We got a small order but regretted not ordering more. My second favorite dish was the butter beef (carpaacio). So much flavor , meat was so tender, I'd get this every time I come here as well. The sautéed water spinach was super good as well, lots of garlic, but it's a big serving for 2 people. Better for bigger groups I think. We also got their Cambodian style pho - this one was ok, but don't think I'd order again. Same thing with their fried Vietnamese rolls, these weren't great and wish we ordered something else. We tried going for dinner around 6pm, and it was a couple of hour wait. So we came back the following day for a late lunch and the wait was about an hour. We gave our name, and they'll text you when the table is ready, which is nice because we just waited in the car while we waited for the table. Overall, definitely a spot I'd eat again and would recommend without a doubt. As long as you are cool with waiting, I think that'll help manage expectations. read more
A Vancouver hot spot that lives up to its name. The chicken wings, of course, are a standout. The squid gets a similar treatment as it just as good. I also really liked the Luc Lac and Butter Beef. We also had a noodle dish that was a big miss for me, but I'll take a .750 BA any day! read more
Literally the only place you should dine at in Chinatown hence there is also a wait. We waited around 30 minutes - they will text you - Monday around noon time. We ordered their two popular items plus a shrimp ball with egg noodle soup + their dry noodles. Their butter beef (doesn't taste like butter) and their fried chicken was a must. One of our better meals. We finished everything! Their noodles weren't bad. We got it for our toddler. She loved the bone broth soup that came with the dry noodles. Bathrooms in the back. Clean for a Chinese place - they speak Cantonese here. Street parking or public transportation. Unfortunately, Chinatown is ghetto so there isn't much to do while you wait for your table. read more

We shared: Marinated Butter Beef Phnom Penh Chicken Wings Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang - Rice noodles în soup with prawns, pork, pork innards, ground pork, dried shrimp Butter Beef did not taste buttery like it's name which I'm relieved but it's very sweet and incredibly tender. Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang was a light, comforting bowl of noodle soup. The pork and prawns weren't dry. Chicken wings were perfectly crispy and seasoned. Very happy with the portion sizes of all these dishes. No issues with service. Highly recommend you visit in middle of afternoon when wait is not as crazy. This Vancouver institution is worth the visit. read more

Everything was so amazing. The lines were literally 2 blocks long, and they went through that line within half an hour. The inside was beautiful, and the service was the best. They kept the food flowing, tables clean, and did everything with a smile. Do not miss out on this Vancouver gem. First time there, and it won't be our last. 10 stars. read more

Had to try this place in a recent visit to Vancouver. The social media buzz on this place was well deserved. As you check in, our wait was approximately 1 hour. Since we came all this way, why not. Just have a beer at the corner pub, and sure enough you will get the text. You are immediately sat down and you can see the place is full of happy eaters. We were served rather fast and the food started coming in. This place is well worth the reputation I heard of. Among the many Vietnamese spots I've tried, they more or less are the same although still good. This particular restaurant is definitely the best one I've had. read more
Still remains a phenomenal spot for Vietnamese food. The chicken wings are so good. The calamari is equally great. Beef carpaccio is so flavorful. We got the combo vermicelli with spring rolls and beef skewer for some carbs and it was good as well. read more

Phnom Penh had been on my to try list for so so long and I was thrilled to finally try it. Since I made a reservation for a group of 6, we were seated right away and the service was very prompt, especially considering it was busy. Our group shared two entrees and three appetizers which ended up being the right amount as we were all pretty full by the end. The appetizers definitely were the star of the show here as they were all very well seasoned. The marinated beef was doused in sauce and I enjoyed the garlicky cilantro flavour. Both the chicken wings and the fried squid were crispy and paired with a nice tangy sauce, they were very moreish. The entrees (dry two mix noodles and the pho) were good but didn't stand out to me as being much better than other ones I'd tried. I discovered this place on TikTok, and it's famous for its butter beef - which, by the way, is raw and very similar to carpaccio. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and tasted so homemade! We tried the grass jelly coconut milk drink, fried chicken wings, butter beef, salt and pepper squid, and Banh cuon, and every dish was a hit. Honestly, there were so many other things I wanted to try, but my stomach just couldn't handle it all! Even though it was a rainy Saturday, parking wasn't a hassle at all. Expect about a 30-40 minute wait, but the area is full of cute bookstores and tea shops, so there's plenty to browse while you wait. You may encounter a language barrier, but no worries, I highly recommend using the number system to ensure accuracy with your order. Definitely worth it! read more
Michelin recommended. I know why - incredible Cambodian food and authentic experience. We shared a table to beat the 1.5 hour wait. We shared 3 dishes, highlighted by the beef carpaccio which was light, flavourful, and delicious. Easily a top meal in 2025. read more
