My fellow Americans, this place is legit. I consider this place to be the absolute best of the best coffee shop I've ever been to. Ya boy has been around the block for a hot minute so I've been to my fair share of coffee shops. If anyone dares speak any slander on this fine establishment, I am ready to defend its honor. I have legit gone here for the past couple months religiously. I have tried every single drink on the menu that is not matcha. I have never had a drink that I would consider anything below a 9/10. You really can't go wrong with any of the drinks here because they will happily remake your drink if it's not one that's perfect. Second, the service here is second to none. The entire staff is so friendly and professional. Special shoutout to the great sensei Vicky. She always makes sure we feel welcome and taken care of. The best place to get Vietnamese coffee drinks! I've visited multiple times and I keep coming back for their Coconut Coffee. Their Coconut Coffee is one of their blended creation that uses Phin Smith's signature District 1 Blend which has a dark, bold, and intense coffee flavor with nutty undertones. The drink has a rich coconut crema which makes it silky and smooth flavour. Since it's a blend, the coconut pairs well with the strong bold coffee flavor. It's a bit sweeter which is what I like. It makes for a refreshing drink on those hot summer days. Service moves along well. You order your drink and once you've received your drink, you pay at the cash and then you can head out with beverage. Tl;dr: Delicious Vietnamese drip coffee that will give you the caffeine needed to start the day. Food: Vietnamese coffee is known for being bold, yet sweet, usually made with condensed milk. I tied the Ca Phe Brûlée which comes with an egg custard topping. It was sweet and reminded me of egg coffee in Hanoi. So good. I also had a Ca Phe Sua Da which is a traditional iced coffee. As a lover of coffee, a friend had recommended this spot so decided to check it out while we were in the area. I was a little confused on how to order since there was a bunch of people standing around the coffee bar, but realized they call up people individually to prepare your drink and then go pay for it afterwards. I decided to try the peanut butter and loved the subtle flavor. I think it was a tad too sweet for me and lost a bit of the actual coffee flavor, but overall a good and refreshing drink. First time here and got the Hawaiian Latte. The line was kind of confusing at first because they call you up to a barista behind the bar. It's not to the register first. You can ask the barista any questions regarding the drink. My barista was very professional and nice. After you pick up your drink, they ask if you need any adjustments. I think that's pretty rare these days at coffee shops. I thought the coffee was very smooth and it didn't taste very strong like other phin drip coffees I have tried. The flavors of my drink were very subtle. Did wish the island flavors were stronger but I did ask for less sweet. That might have been the reason. My drink does only come in one size, which is the small. There is a good amount of parking outside on the streets, and there are also tables inside for you to enjoy your drink. I've tried Coconut Coffee from Da Vien and Kei Coffee House and I much prefer the one from Phin Smith. The coconut milk they use just tastes better. Also, their espresso shots are strong and pairs well with the coconut milk. It is not overly sweet and just tastes better. Phin Smith is one of my favorite coffee shops and one of the few places whose coffee I actually crave. On my very first visit, I ordered the Dustino and I've been getting it ever since. It's a Costa Rican-style mocha with a rich, bold flavor that's perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. The Oahu Joe is another great option if you prefer something sweeter. It's a Hawaiian-style latte that's smooth, flavorful, and definitely satisfies a sweet coffee craving. Despite how busy the shop can get, drinks come out surprisingly fast since they have several baristas working behind the counter. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable about their coffee, and happy to answer questions or make adjustments to customize your drink. One thing that's a little different is that you pick up your drinks at the counter first, then head to the register to pay for whatever you ordered. Great drink, I love a balanced banana coffee. It felt like the banana was roasted and caramelized (not sure), but it left me with a great aroma in the coffee. I cannot wait to go try more flavors. I like half sweet drinks since I'm getting old, but there still is a lot of flavor when doing so (not feeling watered down). When you ask for less ice they do not fill it up all the way (boo), but ratios matter if they want a consistent drink. Phin Smith is my parents' backyard and every time I visit them, I contemplate visiting. Located on Main Street of Garden Grove, Phin Smith is the original Vietnamese coffee shop that first developed there and made a name for itself. Parking is difficult on weekends; you'll have to park in the lot next door and cross the brick road. The interior is lovely. There's a Vespa located out in front, too. Very Vietnamese culture driven! When I first came to Phin Smith, a friend had to teach me what to do. It can be overwhelming for first time patrons. You come inside and you get in line towards the left side. This gives you a bit of time to look at the menu, and decide what you want. Every year, they've extended their menu and added new teams. My fiancé noted they had a new tonic this time around. After barista will ask for the next guest once they are ready. You walk up to this long counter and give them your order. They will ask for what size and any other customizations if applicable. You then, stand towards the island to make room for other people. The barista will make your drink and call for you when it's done. You grab your drink, and walk forward to the back center, where there is a cashier. You pay for your drink and that's it! I always, always get their banana coffee. I try banana coffee from other cafes, but nothing quite beats Phin Smith's banana coffee. It's the banana coffee of my dreams and I crave it all the time. It's fantastic. I had a huge "yikes" moment when I tasted my drink, because I know they'll modify your drink if you don't like it... but my issue was that I didn't like the entire thing, so I didn't want to say anything. I thought the whole thing was gross. NorCal's Phin Cafe is way better, along with the other Vietnamese egg/ube/pandan/etc coffee places that have been hype on social media lately (Phin Smith does not have some of these flavors - they're behind!). - Coconut Coffee The marbling is kind of cute, but the flavor is not potent or good enough. We've had plenty of coconut coffees pop up in NorCal and Phin Smith's coffee was meh. It was just missing creaminess, sweetness, coconut flavor, wasn't too strong on the coffee, and had a little extra water/crushed ice dilution. If rating this itself, it'd be average to below average. We had to add their self-serve simple syrup to make it taste better. We usually don't need to add anything when ordering at various places in NorCal because they actually get it right. - Peach Breeze Disgusting, one of the worst beverages that I've ever consumed in my life. It literally just tasted like someone opened canned peaches and added water to it. I AM NOT EXAGGERATING. I also asked for half ice and a majority of the thing was still large ice cubes. I don't drink coffee, but I'm not sure if I would have liked their other drinks on the menu considering their best selling coffee was barely satisfactory. Other than the subpar drinks, the inside had some sticky spots and could use some cleaning with actual cleaning product. This place is consistent. I've visited here a handful times with my fiancé and it is always good Vietnamese coffee. I try out different things and I tried their newest drink which was their phin&tonic which is their take on the espresso tonic. And I would say that it is very strong. The orange citrus taste is there but the phin drip coffee over powers it and if you line that, then this is your drink. It wasn't my drink but I would say that it would definitely keep me up all night. It is refreshing on a hot day. I was in the area and I saw that this was one of the highest rated tea shops that offers blended blueberry Matcha so I decided to see what the hype was all about. This has a different type of concept where you order your drink, but you don't pay for it at the time that you order it you order it and then you go to a separate counter once your drink is finished to pay for it. My drink came out to about seven dollars, and I thought it was a nice spin on a traditional classic, but the blueberry Matcha blend was a little overly sweetened for my taste. The blueberry doesn't taste like it's from a natural source, maybe from a syrup. I wouldn't mind returning to try their strawberry matcha blend, which I heard is also a very popular drink. If you go on a Sunday during their farmers market parking will be a little bit tricky, but you can walk the alley viewing some local merchants selling fresh produce, which is nice. read more

I can't believe this coffee shop was so close by. I used to visit the Mexican restaurant next door often years ago. Nice to be back on Main Street again because these drinks were delicious. The Vietnamese coffee here is seriously strong in the best way. The flavor is bold and you can definitely feel the caffeine, but it is not overly sweet which I really liked. The coffee taste actually comes through instead of being covered up. They also let me try the drink before buying it to make sure I liked it, which I thought was a really nice touch. Phin Smith is the sans rival of all Vietnamese coffee spots in Southern California. I've been riding for them for yearssss and I'm so glad their business has thrived enough to expand and open in another market (Las Vegas, NV). Their prices are reasonable and menu offerings have something for everyone. Parking options are a bit tricky since it's GG Main Street, but good things come to those who wait (or get dropped off). My only two requests are for them to open up online pre-ordering and start offering decaffeinated latte options. I absolutely love their banana coffee, coconut coffee, sweet corn latte, javacado, and others, but my god is my health sensitive to caffeine. Me and my girlfriend were looking for top rated coffee shops along the drive to Long Beach and came across this place. We both got the Vietnamese coffee with egg cream top. Upon first sip, it was a little disappointing, we just got straight coffee even though we ordered it sweetened with condensed milk. BUT after some time had passed and some mixing had occurred with the egg foam. It quickly turned into one of the best if not THEE best Vietnamese coffee I have had. The egg foam itself was incredible I've never had anything like it before it blows other places out of the water!!!! Every sip the coffee tasted better and better, our initial ratings were a 7.5 and once we were about halfway done we were convinced it was among the greats. The coffee shop itself pretty nice I liked the set up for how they prepared the drinks it made the wait much faster than if it was a more traditional ordering and paying method. The inside of the restaurant was a little dirty given we went later in the day, would be a nice place to hang out and study in the morning while it was still clean but that peters out as the day goes on it would seem. I didn't catch his name but may his pillow stay cool every night. He asked if we've been before and since we haven't, he offered for us to take a sip after he makes it before we commit. We did take a sip of both drinks. Both of us also spilled some of it on ours shirts. That was user error. Paying was a breeze. They accepted Apple Pay and they also sell merch. I saw shirts & packaged coffee beans. Also coffee crowlers. I've never seen that before and I thought that was pretty cool. This is easily one of my favorite matcha spots!! definitely in my top 3 or 4 in OC. I used to come here all the time to study, and the location in the plaza makes it such a convenient stop. Been to Phin Smith so many times over so many years however today's visit was a let down. The only highlight part was the bartender's politeness and friendliness. Ordered: Sea Salt Caramel Latte (he did adjust the sweetness), Peanut Butter Coffee and Peach Breeze. Peach Breeze was the worst because it tasted like there was no tea in it.
