New Vietnamese coffee place in Chinatown! I ordered the iced cafe sua da...it's a little pricey ($5) for the size but I really enjoyed my drink. It's very smooth and mild. I expect a really strong coffee flavor in my cafe so this was a nice balance. The owner made my coffee with a cocktail shaker which was also very cool! This place is probably the least welcoming Viet Cafe place I've been to. The guy who makes the coffee was so unhelpful and actually pretty rude when my girl friend was asking for a hot coffee and he said the 2nd from the top but asked what was the difference between the first one and the 2nd one and he said less coffee.. OK.... Not helpful at all. Then we thought we saw our coffee at the counter and waited a bit but realized a group of girls that were sitting didn't have theirs yet (and was there before us) so we just decided to sit back down. The guy didn't say anything. Good Viet coffee but you're better off going to Hello Em. They at least greet you and is super helpful with questions. This place... Pass. Came through this morning for their famous Pandan Waffle and I paired it with their classic Vietnamese coffee (ordered mine hot). The combo was excellent! The waffle is crispy, crunchy and chewy on the inside. The texture is like a mix of mochi and tapioca consistency which was deliciously satisfying and worth the try. The Vietnamese coffee was smooth and reminded me of the coffee I had in Vietnam. The condense milk is made in-house and balanced well with the rich coffee flavor. I noticed that the coffee isn't scorching hot like the ones at most coffee shops which meant you could drink it immediately. I personally find that I don't like super hot coffee-- I get a little impatient waiting for my coffee to be at a drinkable temperature. All to say, the temperature of Phin's coffee is drinkable upon receiving the drink and it does not compromise the flavors. The staff wore masks the entire time and they now allow dinning. I was the only one in the shop for awhile which was great for journaling and reading. Instrumental music is played softly in the background though if you were meeting up with a friend be mindful that the volume of your conversation could be carried throughout the shop, others will hear. Note regarding parking and neighborhood: it is street parking and is two hours. You'll notice there are a lot of homeless people and encampments but I personally don't mind it as this is the reality of Seattle's housing issues. It is great to see more small business owned coffee shops pop up around the area. I am excited to see something that is modern but carries the history, culture and tradition of the area open in the international district. The coffee here is great offering traditional Vietnamese iced coffee as well as modern takes on your favorite drink. A year later during the pandemic, and Phin is still going strong just as good as day 1. The best part is that they've now opened up indoor seating, giving me a true Vietnam-esque vibe. They've started offering other variations to their coffee and some other beverage options, but the coffee is still traditional and amazing. This isn't your grab and go, in and out coffee shop. The best experience is sitting down and having the espresso drip while relaxing and catching up on everything else. Do allow yourself time. Do enjoy the ambience. Vietnamese coffee made the traditional way using a phin. If you're not a big coffee drinker the bac siu is the perfect milky drink for you. Bac siu is a creamy/milky treat with a light coffee taste. For a stronger coffee the ca phe sua is the way to go. Ca phe sua is the typical Vietnamese coffee mixed with condensed milk. In my opinion the coffee could have been stronger but it definitely had a robust taste. Since the coffee is made using a phin it does take a little bit of time so don't be surprised if there's a small wait for your drink to be made. Overall this is a solid coffee shop and would be a nice place to enjoy a chi happiness. read more

Hmm I feel like honestly I would give this place a 3.5 for drinks (rounded up to 4), a solid 4 for the ambiance, and 5 for the service. The interior is super cute albeit very small and cramped so it's kind of hard to find seating. Parking (as with most places in the ID) is not easy squeezy lemon peezy but difficult very difficult! The service is great though, everyone is super nice. Also idk if this counts as service but oat milk drinks were 50% off (as it should be smh the government should subsidize the oat industry instead of our dairy and wheat industry) but that was a really nice surprise. They also use the rice straws that don't dissolve like paper but are still more eco-friendly (unfortunately I bite my straws so it kinda hurt me teeth but it's ok I'll take one for the planet). The drinks were meh imo it was good but honestly nothing remarkable. I don't remember what I felt / thought about it I just know it didn't really quite hit but I'd be down to try it again :) Overall cute place, I'd go if my friend wanted to but I don't think I'd go out of my way. read more

I was pretty sad that I couldn't visit it again I think on a Monday prior to my flight. Our first time here, we tried the yogurt coffee, Viet coffee, & mill coffee. The yogurt coffee was not for us haha a bit too tart but I still wanted to try it as it was new. Their Viet coffee was good but I was worried it would be too strong and tried their mill coffee which was a bit sweeter. Aside from the coffee, the pandan waffle was soooo goood! It was the perfect amount of crisp on the outside with the light/fluffy texture on the inside. The hints of pandan that come through on each bite was nice too and then washing it down with coffee really just hit the spot. I had been wanting to visit Phin after reading several articles about it online. I finally got a chance to stop in and was excited to try the Vietnamese coffee. The folks in front of me ordered the pandan waffles. While I waited for my coffee to be prepared (it's made with a phin filter, which takes a few minutes longer than espresso-based beverages), I admired the cool plants, decor, and books in the cafe. The coffee was excellent and easily lived up to the hype. It was smooth with the perfect amount of sweetness. Found this gem when visiting Seattle with my kids. The idea of trying a new kind of waffle was an easy sell. We ended up buying two pandan waffles, two socola waffles, a winter melon green tea (iced), and a box of the pandan waffle mix to go. The food and drinks were delicious and high quality. The customer service left much to be desired. It is clear that the person who founded this cafe has passion for food, culture, and quality. The person working today had none of those things and could not answer simple questions about taste for people who had never had pandan or durian. We wanted to buy a box of durian waffles but they don't sell them there for us to try, and the employee gave us no assurance it wouldn't have a stinky aftertaste like the fruit. The overall experience was positive for me and my kids, so I won't take a star away for one bad customer service experience. They loved the waffles and tea (and the card games!), but I wish they took more care in putting someone behind the counter who actually cared about the cafe and its food. read more

Phin is off the beaten path, away from the heart of Chinatown. The location is small and quiet for these reasons. I visited recently when I wanted a Vietnamese coffee and to try the pandan waffle. The folks working were awkward and the silence from lack of music and conversation with the barista was almost deafening while I waiting 20 minutes for my order. The Vietnamese coffee was sweeter than usual and tasted off. The waffle was good, but it wasn't worth the wait or the terrible coffee. Do not recommend. read more

They make their own condensed milk, so the coffee isn't too sweet. Although we were very much in line first, it seems this place is all about making its regular customers happier than gaining new customers. With 1 person in front and 5 behind us, we ended up getting our coffee last, waited over 15 minutes and the worst part of it all is that I tipped 20%. Lesson learned, never tip before receiving service at this place. I wish I could recommend this place because it's really cool inside. But I Never again will I come here. My coffee was out in about thirty seconds (although I did swing by at the ripe hour of 9:30AM). Spent a good thirty minutes savouring it in their cozy plant filled seating area.
