Got a mocha with oat milk, and it was fine just extremely sweet. They loaded it up with so much chocolate syrup, you couldn't really taste the coffee, so it was more or less a chocolate milk. Service was ok, and i have to partially blame myself, since I was multi-tasking on a work call, which was very obvious, since I had my laptop in my hand, so I couldn't speak super loud, but the barista seemed irritated by this. I was just doing the best I could ordering quickly to get out of the way. Spot also wasn't the cleanest, but was what it was. Not horrible just not great, and there are far too many alternatives to come back.

The dulce de leche was, of course, delicious. The pastry itself seemed kinda dry. Alfajor: A classic way to deliver dulce de leche. Buttery cookies surrounding the filling. Excellent when paired with coffee. Carne Asada Empanada: Very hearty, almost like a mini meal. Lots of ground beef jam packed into the crisped pastry shell. Seemed reheated to order, so the dough was bordering on being over cooked, but the filling was great. Spinach & Cheese Empanada: Way more spinach than cheese. The cafe was bustling but not claustrophobic, and signage on the walls advertised their new protein packed bowls and smoothies, which honestly looked quite good. There was no line so I ordered quickly with the friendly cashier and within minutes my name was being called. The banana latte (I got mine with oat milk) has real banana squashed at the bottom with a drizzle of caramel sauce for sweetness. The drink required a fair amount of mixing to homogenize and the banana was more chunky than I like. Nonetheless, the sweetness of the banana + caramel paired wonderfully with the smooth, rich coffee. I appreciate that the coffee tasted like a darker roast, I don't think a more sour profile would have worked with the banana and caramel. The drink was pricy but what isn't pricy in SF? I think it can definitely be replicated pretty easily at home. Kudos to Upfordayz for making a banana drink that even I like!! Sometimes you can see the Michael's Liquour store cat (located across the street) walking in the front of their store. The inside is basic and could probably do with a remodel. The coffee roaster in the eating area makes it looks a little cluttered. For coffee it's pretty standard but they are one of the only coffee places I know that sells hardboiled eggs, pie, and a Borgia.

What made it even more confusing was that there were still multiple people inside sitting and working on laptops, clearly not being rushed out the same way. When I asked about that, he rolled his eyes and essentially ushered us out the door. I completely understand businesses closing and wanting to wrap up for the day, but there's a respectful and professional way to communicate that. This felt unnecessarily hostile and unwelcoming, especially for a neighborhood coffee shop. Based on this experience alone, I wouldn't return.

Instead of just pointing us in the right direction, the person working gave us attitude about it. We apologized and explained that we thought we were supposed to stand where we were, and he responded with something along the lines of, "Well, the cashier is here, so you should be standing here." Just a weirdly hostile interaction over a very normal mistake. Then I ordered my coffee and asked for vanilla. He told me they didn't have any, so I said no problem and asked if they had another sweetener. His response was, "No, we don't. I don't do that here." I said, "Oh, okay, interesting," and he responded, "Yeah, that's why there are other coffee shops. You don't have to come here if you don't want to." I also asked for 2% milk, and again got a very curt "I don't do 2% milk," instead of just telling me what they did have. I happily switched to oat milk -- none of my requests were a big deal to me, and I wasn't upset that they didn't have what I originally asked for. It was entirely the attitude. Not sure why every interaction needed to come with so much sass, especially when we were being perfectly polite. Coffee was fine, but the service made the whole experience uncomfortable.
