Welcome to Temecula, Phil's. It's a HUGE deal for these guys to enter Riverside County and they are welcomed with warm community arms. Through a special invite only, we were invited to fill a slot and take out dinner for our family. What a treat beyond words. Service was fantastic and our wait from ordering to food being ready was completely reasonable. Everything was packaged to go and still piping hot when we got home to enjoy it. I was on my way home from Harrah's and had to stop by Phil's BBQ for their famous ribs! I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs and it did not disappoint! 10/10 would recommend and next time I'm going to order the full rack. Hubby got the El Toro tri tip sandwich and it was too salt for both of us. We came on Father's Day and it was extremely busy but luckily we were ordering take out so we didn't wait long. One of the top 3 BBQ spots in the world IMO! Had a huge carry out order for a big party and was very happy that I only had to drive to Temecula instead of all the way to SD. I love the way that they put the food trays into the styrofoam containers, as it kept it warm and safe for the ride back home (45 mins). Can't wait until this place opens back up for indoor dining! First time at Phil's. We got the El Toro. The meat was amazing. Very tender, probably had too much BBQ for others, but I LOVE BBQ sauce. The bread was not good though. It looked like some sort of wheat bread, very friable, made it difficult to bite into. Plus, the buns were very thin. I guess I'm used to a thick tri-tip sandwich like they make in Texas. The potato salad was OK. Definitely tasted like it was missing something (salt?). Coleslaw and French fries were amazing! read more

I placed a catering order with Phil's BBQ last week to celebrate my engagement with my now fiancée. We had 15 guests attend our celebration and everyone had their own specific, unique tastes. I was contacted by Cami Bingham who not only patiently walked me through their menu, but guided me on ordering the perfect amount of food. She was very honest throughout the process, even suggesting I was potentially over-ordering and over-paying with my guest headcount. With her help and since the catering order was family style, we ended up ordering the following: 2 Full Beef Rib Dinners 6 Full Pork Rib Dinners 4 1/2 Chicken Dinners 4 Sausage Link 4 Tri-Tip A bunch of sides that come with the Dinners (Cole Slaw, Veggies, Mac Salad, and Beans) When arriving at the restaurant to pick up our food, the staff was extremely attentive, caring, and most importantly, on-time! I forgot the staff member's name, but she diligently asked if we needed extra utensils, plates, tongs, BBQ sauce, etc...I am extremely happy with Phil's BBQ catering and the food turned out delicious! We had plenty of leftover for the guests to take home and everyone commended the amazing food quality. Jessie, our host/waiter/server was very welcoming when we got there. We told him it was our first time so he explained the layout of their menu. My friend got the Beef ribs and I got the Baby Back ribs. We waited only 5 minutes for our food to come. Super fast. The Baby Back ribs was tender and juicy and the BBQ was very tasty. Probably because it had a vinegary kick to it which I love. My friend loved the Beef ribs which was humongous! Lots of meat on the ribs and 3 ribs was more than filling for a hungry person. My coleslaw was also good and more on the vinegary side but creamy enough to balance out the acid of the BBQ sauce. The only disappointment was that my Baked Beans could have had a little more brown sugar sweetness to it. A bit too mild for me. Overall, the service was excellent, the food was good, and I liked the location. The food didn't have the smokey flavor like you would expect from a BBQ joint but I would come back again, for sure! read more

I've eaten here several times services consistent and friendly. The best part about Phil's are their cocktail prices eight dollars for many options. They also have a great happy hour. My sister and I shared riblet sampler type platter it came with onion rings french fries coleslaw and a generous portion of barbecued burnt ends. Was in the area and decided to try the new Phil's out. Walked right in with no wait. While walking in staff greeted us and asked us if we needed help with the menu. We've been to the SD Phil's so we already knew what we wanted to order so we were able to order without any wait. There set up for the social distancing is laid out really well and before we even sat to wait for our food they already called that our order was ready. I've been anxiously waiting for this place to open since I first heard of the news last year. Firstly, Phil's is located at the Promenade Temecula with plenty of parking. There's a few small tables outside by the front entrance as well as inside--where there's booths against the walls and bar seating available. The family and I came at a great time (12pm on a weekday)--few customers and no line. The interior was clean, filled with social distancing markers, separators and the staff were wearing masks. As with all Phil establishments, we ordered at the counter then grabbed a booth by the front entrance and waited for our name to be called. Nothing's changed. Baby back ribs were very soft and juicy as they've always been and their signature BBQ sauce remains sweet, savory and tangy. As for the sides, the potato salad and baked beans have always been my choice and they still are. I can't get enough of that sweet and smoky flavor in the beans. Perfection. In addition to the first-rate meal, the customer service was also great--all were smiling, helpful and friendly. Hands down the worst food I've tasted in Temecula. All three dishes were over cooked, dry and resembled cardboard including the French fries. Service was not good. Empty beers with no offer of another one. It was not busy and no excuse for poor service. Go to Calhouns for real BBQ. read more

I lived in Texas for years where BBQ is king, so you could say "I KNOW BBQ"! My wife and I had just picked up a new car at the Temecula Honda dealer, and we asked for a recommendation for lunch. The salesman told us about Phil's BBQ, and we headed on over. The is a very nice casual dining restaurant with a separate bar area. You can tell that Phil put some real money into this place, it shines! We studied the big menu on the wall (I appreciate the large print) and we made our choices. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and got the "add a link with a drink" option. My wife got the tri-tip sandwich and we shared a large order of fries. When I tell you that this was THE BEST PULLED PORK SANDWICH I'VE EVER EATEN, you can believe it!!! From the first scrumptious bite to the last, this huge sandwich was flavorful and unique. And the link exceeded my expectations... I was prepared to see a 6" sausage on my place, but it was A FOOTLONG! Like the pulled pork sandwich, it was delicious! My wife loved the tri-tip sandwich, also beyond her expectation. I called the manager (Michael) over in a stern voice, and I could tell that he was expecting a complaint. I said: "Every time I come into an new BBQ joint, I expect to be disappointed...But we are so surprised how good everything is!" He thanked me and I told him that this was THE BEST pulled pork sandwich I have EVER eaten, no joke. I asked him what made it so flavorful. He went onto tell me that they put the whole pork shoulders in the oven for 10 hours overnight. But the difference at PHIL'S is... after they shred the meat... they CHAR-BROIL IT!!! *C H A R - B R O I L E D!!!* Unbelievable concept, I have NEVER had slow cooked pulled pork that IS THEN char-broiled!!! I repeat: THIS IS THE BEST PULLED PORK SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD! After reading other reviews, I find it hard to believe that someone would rate this place at 3 starts (like some lady from West Covina did). You just can't please some people! This food was horrible. Undercooked and slathered with some sort of sauce. The chicken, if it was real chicken made me lose my appetite. I had to throw it out. Even my dog would not eat that thing. I trust my Great Dane. I make better homemade barbecue sauce, I know they use a generic disguised as sauce, with lord knows what in that. I never ate there before and will not ever again. You feel me Phils? But people will eat anything. That's why you have health problems. The restaurants are cutting back on quality and serving trash food.
