Busy at 11:00. But everyone is working fast and hard. They are keeping the tables clean. Place looks real clean. You can see them cooking. I love eating here food is hot and the place is clean. Today was sandwich day so it was buy one get one free. No free internet. But, you get Starbucks ext door here. You will not be disappointed with the portions or selection. Having summered at the Jersey Shore as a child, I grew up around Philadelphians, hoagies and cheesesteaks (not "steak and cheese," fer chrissakes!) And please, don't get wise with the provolone cheese. It can only be the gooey white american. After a meeting today, I dropped into Philly's Best with great skepticism. The grip of Philly artifacts, Tastycakes, Wise chips and claim to Amoroso rolls put me at ease. Their menu descriptions of the various styles (mushroom, pizza, etc.) all seemed accurate. So I ordered a Mushroom steak for the Misses, who's never had a real one. Since I don't eat beef, I opted for chicken (gasp! sacrelige!) no mushrooms. $6 is not at all "pricey" for a high-end sandwich. The size is perfect, between a medium and a foot long. Since it was 4:00, it was too early for dinner, so I thought we'd just eat them at room temp. Around 5:15, I could wait no longer and we plowed though 'em. Very authentic, I must say. Beef was better than chicken. Never thought I'd say this, but perhaps too many grilled onions. I wish I didn't wait, because the foil wrapper seemed to "steam" the buns somewhat, making them squishy and denying me the flakey, crusty goodness of a proper italian roll. Actually, I'm not sure if they are even flakey when fresh, but I'll find out for sure when I return to try a cold hoagie with the oil, dressing, pepper, etc. read more

I've been coming to Philly's Best on and off since I was in my early college years; there was one in Irvine(which will be reviewed at a later date; I need to go again and get a current opinion on it) and the one @ Downey Landing. I don't like the radio add very much(sounds like an idiot is doing the commercial), but I do like the establishment. The do everything to make you believe it's a Philly establishment; what with all the memorabilia and Philly deco and all, even the tables have a Philly theme to it, from what I can remember. I've never had a Philly Cheese Steak from Philadelphia, so I can't really say if they can even compare; but I've had some friends say they're pretty good. I really dig the mushroom and pizza steak. They lay it heavy and that's what makes it mm mm good. Still need to go back to try out the hoagies but I'd definitely recommend the cheesesteaks. Good and affordable, you can definitely come more often than you'd like. Always get great service from the guys here; they're friendly, straightforward, and always make sure we get what we want. Always makes for a more comfortable scenario when you can joke around with them too. Parking @ Downey Landing can be hit and miss...I'd come during off-peak times. Or pick up and take your order home and enjoy it watching some Sunday football :) read more

I first tried phillys best in 2003 when I was working in Santa Ana. I fell in love with their cheesesteaks on that day. Over the years the quality has remained consistent even as they have expanded their franchise. The cheesesteaks taste as good today as they did 7 yrs ago. I don't come here often. this is the kind of place that I have to be in the mood for to eat at, which is probably why I still like it after all these years. I always order the regular cheesesteak with onions. Now I have never been to Philadelphia and don't know how these compare. But if the cheesesteaks in Philly are better then these then the cheesesteaks in Philly must be awesome. read more

I had two cheesesteaks delivered from here and they were cold cause there weren't wrapped good. I paid $5 more for extra meat and extra cheese on one of them. Both sandwiches looked the same with barely any meat and cheese. I basically paid them $5 for nothing extra. There's not too many places you can get an authentic tasting philly cheesteak sandwich but this place is one of them! They have a good selection of different sandwiches to choose from. Their onion rings are really good and you can even purchase a beer there! Place is small, I like to sit outside, eat & people watch. One thing I can say for certain is that they are consistent with the taste and quality of their food. They are a little expensive for a hot sandwich place but it's worth it. I Just had the most disgusting food delivered from this place. The last three times I ordered from here it was pretty good. Came here for an early dinner the other day. We were quickly greeted by a very excited worker. We ordered the cheesesteak fries that comes with steak and cheese whiz (more like nacho cheese) on top. We also ordered a couple of cheese steaks with onions and sweet peppers. The bread was good, gooey, and sweet. The meat was oooookay. They did not have whiz on their cheese steaks! That's how you know a place is legit - when they have whiz. Sadly, that was missing from my sandwich. Fries were pretty good and the order is HUGE!
