Absolutely amazing food and stunning location! I have been eagerly waiting , walking by every so often to 'see the progress' of the construction and we have not been disappointed! To start we had the chicken satay (yes, please!!) and the walnut shrimp which is one of the best prawn dishes I had in a long time. For the entrees we went with the Kung Pao Chicken, Crispy Beef and Vegetable Fried Rice. The Chicken was delicious, extremely tender, and full of flavor with the spicy glaze it had on. The Crispy Beef was also very good, quite sweet but we also thought we would've liked to taste the beef a little more since the crispy outside was masking its taste. The veggie fried rice was to die for!!! As simple as fried rice sounds, it is (at least for me) the most important part of a Chinese meal and it is hard to find one that is perfect. This was without doubt the best fried rice I had in years! The service was also very fast and professional. I have to go back (no doubt I will be back very often!) for the desserts and everything else on the menu. I feel that this is one of the restaurants where you cant really make a bad choice in! I don't review often but this place was abysmal!! I'm attaching the note I submitted to the restaurant via their website, I have yet to receive a response but it's been less than a week, so if I get a response I'll share that here too. The lobster was overcooked, the Chilean sea bass was sold out on the tasting menu we purchased for 8 people and we were offered salmon as a replacement. The two are no where near comparable. The server forgot drink orders and responded "I was dealing with some other things". We spent 1,000 and took about 10 boxes home and about 10 boxes ended up in the trash. It's was the worst way to celebrate my graduation and Mother's Day to the point that I paid my parents back for dinner out of embarrassment for the abysmal food and service. I came here to celebrate my birthday with my husband. it was super last minute I didn't have a reservation and the hosts had told me they were fully committed, i got in touch with one of the managers there Sadi and SOMEHOW he made it happen. When we walked in our table was ready with a reserve sign on it. It really felt special. The food and drinks were amazing. Our server was very attentive. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. Get the split king !! Appetizers are very filling so order carefully. We finished with the surf and turf and shrimp fried rice. Both incredible. And of course the BAKED ALASKA. Nothing but good things for this Phillipe Chow DC! I was celebrated to this wonderful dining experience for my birthday, and the staff and service made it feel just like that! We were first accommodated with the seamless time change due to our late arrival. We followed their request to call if we were going to be beyond 15 minutes late. They pushed back our original reservation for 6:00pm to 6:30pm which worked perfectly for us, especially on a Friday evening. We were greeted with warm smiles and beautiful oriental gold decor. They sat us in a tucked away indoor seating area viewing the wharf's water. Even though we were away from the main crowd we were never forgetton. From our waiter suggesting great food options but never pressuring us to choose his way it was great. The wait staff was attentive to our needs before we even asked. We also had a couple guest appearances from upper level staff, Sadi and George sharing their hospitality. We indulged in - The Spare Ribs - Salt & Pepper Calamari - Vegetable Lo Mein - Lobster Fried Rice - Spicy Mignon - Nine Spice Prawns - Fortune Cookie Red Velvet Cake - Split King Cocktail - The Pacific Old Fashion w/ Bourbon Soaked Cherries - Say it ain't so... ( Lychee Martini) All food items were well prepared. We went against the grain and ordered the calamari as we heard differing opinions on the dish. But it was perfection! Partner and I had a reservation here for our anniversary which was great! The biggest downside to the restaurant was the seating being so close together. For this to be an upscale type of restaurant one would think you wouldn't be so close to the table(s) next to you that you could join in to whichever table you found the conversation to be the most interesting. There is more than ample space for them to remove every other table and still have a nice crowd of people in the restaurant. Just seems as though the goal is to squeeze as many people in as possible. Other than the seating the food was great and our service was EXCELLENT! We will be back and just sit at the bar which seems to provide a better more intimate setting since you will literally be sitting next to whomever you came with. read more

Fried shrimp was over-battered along with fried chicken dish being hard & overcooked. Strange flavored dumplings & weird green color. Definitely not homemade. Desserts were pre-made & hard to cut & dried out. Service was friendly but so so. Ambiance was nice being by the water although we couldn't see it. Thought the flowers throughout should not have been artificial since they looked cheap. For the price it should have been exquisite but was no where near. I came here a couple of months ago when I was visiting DC and had the most amazing dining experience. The food was exquisite, the ambiance was giving, and the service was impeccable. I had a couple of the best espresso martinis I've ever had and for food I had some of their delicious lettuce wraps and the Wagyu Beef Fried Rice. I highly recommend these items. The food came out expeditiously and everything was delicious. I would like to give a huge thank you to the manager Adonys. He really made sure that my experience was the best. Visited for the first time on 6/22. I live 3 blocks from chinatown and used to live in Rockville, MD, so my expectations for chinese food from a high-priced restaurant are high. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. The service was great as the host and staff were very prompt, polite and courteous. The ambiance was excellent (we sat outside in beautiful outdoor booths that faced the water). That being said, the food was mediocre for the price and too salty. As a disclaimer, we are pescatarians, so did not partake in the beef, duck, or chicken dishes (of which Philippe is known for). What we ordered: Fried Calamari - too chewy and overcooked; we sent it back. Lobster rolls - nicely cooked and full of fresh veggies and lobster meat, but was a bit salty Branzino - well-prepared, flaky, moist and tender, but too salty Shrimp fried rice - tasty, but enough salt to remind me of a 6.99 fried rice dish from a cheap, to-go-only, "chinese food and fried chicken" shop. If you are a tourist and not used to eating authentic chinese (or any authentic asian) cuisine, then this restaurant will work well for you; however, I will not be paying tourist prices for this level of chinese food going foreward. read more

There was a lot of sugar in the sauces, the recipes had very unbalanced flavors, and some of the dishes downright tasted bad. I would say only thing on the menu that tasted okay was the duck, and the cocktails. The host did not know their own prefixe menus, and basically tried to convince us their two main pre fixe menus did not exist, even though it's posted online. I'm writing this review to discuss my recent experience at Philippe Chow. Yesterday, June 21, I had an 8:15 pm reservation at the DC location. I arrived on time, about 8:10 pm but my guest that was joining me was arriving late. I spoke with my guest, who suggested I get seated, and they will join me once they arrive -- which I agreed too. I headed inside and tried to check in with the host (a young black lady with hair to her shoulders). I provided my name and the time of my reservation, to which she then asked "do you want to wait for your guest or be seated?". I responded back no, that I'd like to be seated now and they will soon arrive. She then looks at me and tells me, well we can't seat you until your guest arrives, so you'll need to sit at the bar. At that point, I'm taken back by her response because she just asked me if I wanted to wait for my guest, which I said no. Then with so much attitude, she proceeds to tell me that I need to sit at the bar. Now, I've been to his location plenty of times and have been seated at a table, without having to wait at the bar for my guest to arrive. When I was booking my reservation, I noticed there were plenty of reservations available which indicated to me that the restaurant was not packed. I looked around and noticed plenty of tables opened, so why couldn't I get seated? I'm not sure. My issue was not with me having to sit at the bar but more so with how she responded to me. A few weeks prior to yesterday, I was there with my friend and we were at the bar for drinks and food. This same lady gave us so much attitude and issues. So now I'm back, dealing with the same stuff again. I asked her why is it that every time I come here you seem to have an attitude with me or are being disrespectful in some form? She responds that she is not being rude but then I immediately remind her of our past interaction, and that it seems to be constant behavior from her. I then told her the way she responded and her body language was completely uncalled for. Instead of apologizing, she then tells me that I should not have an attitude with her and if I continue to have one then I can leave. I responded immediately that I'm not going to stop having an attitude because the way I'm being treated is terrible, nor am I leaving because I made a reservation and plan to dine here. She then looks at me and in a threatening form says "O yea? Okay." then proceeds to storm off as if she is about to get a manager or something. Needless to say, I remained seated in the host area but decided to step outside to notify my guest of what was taking place, so they were aware. Once my guest arrived, we were seated by someone else and able to enjoy our dinner. The service for the remainder of the night was good. After my experience with this host, I will not be returning to this location for a long time. A lot of changes need to be made starting with the host. read more

The parent company should send managers to see what goes on at its DC outpost. The service was so bad that the manager had to comp all drinks. The ambiance was terrible as the patrons violated every dress code described on the website from wearing flip flops and athletic yoga clothes to horribly revealing clothes. This outpost is an embarrassment to the reputation of this NYC restaurant. Nobody should spend their money at this restaurant in DC. This was the worst experience ever. read more

We were seated in a corner booth in the back with warm air blowing on us which was good because it was 40 degrees outside. We had a view of the fireplace which was an added bonus. We sat there for 15 minutes and no Jhean came. So my friend complained and then they moved us inside . We ordered two mocktails which were grapefruit flavored mocktails . They were pretty good. For dinner , we ordered Peking Duck, Lobster ,Filet mignon with string beans, Chilean sea bass, and shrimp egg rolls. The shrimp egg rolls came out with the Chilean sea bass and filet mignon with string beans. The egg roll was surprisingly crispy and full of flavors . The shrimp tasted like real shrimps. Egg rolls Tasted sweet and savory like how it suppose to taste. The Chilean sea bass cooked perfectly and buttery like how it suppose to taste. Omg the filet with. String beans was out of this world . The filet mignon cube was tender and succulent. Marinated in wholesome goodness. Not too salty not too sweet. Just perfectly cooked and marinated. The string bean was fresh, crunchy, and juicy . Every bites were so delightful . The lobster in scallion and ginger was also superbly done . The lobster meat was so fresh and juicy, the buttery sweet thick lobster meat was just unforgettable. I had 3 chunks and my friend ate the whole framing lobster that greedy bastard. The duck was carved at table side . It was a good side duck with a lot of meat . The meat was tender and juicy with the perfect amount of fat . This was our first time at Philippe and we were definitely impressed. The drinks were great also. I can't remember the name of the drink I ordered but it had the flavor of Andes mints. It was delicious. My son had sweet & sour chicken for the first time and he really enjoyed it. We opted for the Peking duck experience and the flavor of the duck was well worth the money and wait. They asked if we wanted to keep the bones after carving (the bones have a lot of meat left on them so always say yes!) and we said yes. However, on the way home, we noticed in the bag that they put our leftovers in that the bones weren't in there. Bummer.
