Just had an incredible dinner at Philippe Chow. Happened upon this spot by accident as it is at the far end of the Wharf. The restaurant is stunning with most of the restaurant with water views. Although not the busiest as we dined early the staff were amazing. Food came out quickly but not rushed. Cocktail list is ok but suited our needs. I am a bit surprised to the experience being so good as most places on the Wharf seem to be just ok and nothing more. We will definitely be back!!! read more

I came here just for a pre game drink before I headed to a Yelp event on the wharf. The ambiance was giving upscale luxe. The bartender was great. I told her my liquor of choice and she curated a delicious potent drink. The signature ice cube added a unique touch to the drink. Overall I recommend for drinks. Philippe was pretty good to me. My favorite thing was the Peking Duck and sweet and sour chicken. If you get the duck make sure you order it as soon as you sit down because it takes 45 -60 min to prepare. We also had dumplings, lo mein ($50 lo mein that is, it was good but not worth the price), crispy spring rolls. Restaurant was really nice and quiet , waiter and staff were also good. They are a little overpriced but their location is at the wharf sooo.... Other than that they have happy hr and I definitely want to check them out again. read more

My wife and I paid a visit to DC over the weekend, and decided to go to Phillipe Chow based off of reviews we saw online. What an experience!!! From the minute you walk in, the aesthetic, the vibe, the drinks, the staff, and the food, everything exceeded all our expectation. The manager Adonis was the highlight of our experience. He made us feel safe and seen. Every suggestion he made was a hit. He was honest and very through. I appreciated that he walked out with the server to our table when the food was being delivered. He made sure we were complete satisfied. He recommended probably one of the very best Espresso martini I've ever had in the DC area. 10 out of 10. As a New York, we take fine dinning very seriously and Phillipe Chow definitely lives up to its name. I know where I will be dinning when i visit the DC area. :) read more

Came here during DC restaurant week. The decor is elegant and sleek - not super modern but still pleasing to the eye. This is a place to see and be seen, make sure to dress up! I understand that the restaurant is fairly new and it was quite busy on a Monday night due to restaurant week. However, service was extremely slow and abysmal. I felt bad for the wait staff though, they may have been short staffed or just tired. We came in at 8:30 and an hour and fifteen minutes later had only received appetizers; my friend's drink hadn't come out by then and we were not even able to catch the waiter to put in orders for our 2 mocktails. The food made up for the poor service though. Woooooooweeeeeee. Everything we had was delicious. I thought the fillet mignon + green beans that I ordered would be boring but it was DELICIOUS. The beef was so tender and delicious. We loved the red velvet cake too. My friend noted that the Chilean sea bass lacked flavor however. We also got mocktails which were very tasty. I came here with my boyfriend for a staycation at the Wharf. We decided to try Philippe Chow since it was close to the hotel and we haven't had fine Chinese in a long time. When we arrived it was right before 5 and we got seated. They have a HH between 5-7, I'll get to why this is important shortly. We got the dumpling sampler, filet lomein, and the sesame chicken. Let me say the lomein is 55$ and was mostly tasteless. The sesame chicken and dumplings were nothing to write home about. Also the waitress didn't tell us there was even a HH until we heard another table bring it up. As we were there, the place started getting more occupied.. and the waitress literally just stopped coming to our table. Not because she was more busy but she also found time to chit chat with other waiters. She eventually dropped off a dessert menu and didn't show up until 20 mins later and we had to ask for her. We did get dessert and drinks which were really tasty, which is why I'm giving 2 stars. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend this place. They charge a 20% gratuity charge and the staff seem to know they are getting paid either way, and it shows in their nonchalant service and demeanor. I don't think I'll be going back. read more

As soon as I walked in, there were patrons talking loudly to others on speaker phone, patrons standing around waiting to get seated. Not a great first impression. As soon as we were seated, two different individuals asked us what type of water we prefer, which indicates poor management. Our main server was not very engaging, felt like a transactional interaction. Asked us what we wanted to drink besides water, then took our entrees. When entrees came, no one arrived to take our empty glasses, was barely room on our table. Server did not ask how food is and whether we need anything with our entrees. Terrible service, lack of dress code enforcement (so many people in jeans and sneakers), and pathetic quality of food. Far better restaurants in DC. I anticipate this establishment will survive for a year. read more

5 stars! Ive been to a few Philippe locations but my experience tonight was TOP NOTCH. Even though the DC location is new to the area you wouldn't be able to tell by the excellent service. Micheal our server took excellent care of us. He was warm and personable. He also had great recommendations and very positive attitude. My best friend and I came to try out this location for Restaurant Week and we were not disappointed. We had a large dinner here recently and I was blown away by the poor food quality. The service was phenomenal but for what ended up being $320/ a head in a family style type meal. NO WAY. The majority of the duck was so overcooked and dry that it sat untouched by most of 12 guests. Everything else, was average to below average. Dumplings were tasteless. The chicken Satay tasted like a gravy covered chicken finger from Waffle House. It seems that a lot of the folks go here for the scene and ambiance which is definitely cool. But if you're a Chinese cuisine die hard like myself and the majority of the people I invited, STRAY FAR AWAY. When the bill came, I was literally embarrassed to tell everyone the dollar amount after the quality of the food. I had heard so many rave reviews from those that had frequented Chow's in other cities and was unfortunately just so disappointed. Someone once told me it was the greatest meal they had ever had. I assume it has to be that the apple has fallen far from the Tree in Beverly Hills and not all locations are this bad. Again, if you want to be seen at what's portrayed as a high end restaurant for the scene, drinks and ambiance, go for it. But if you seek food quality over those attributes avoid at all costs. AVOID. Go to Mei Wah in Friendship Heights if you are actually looking for high quality Chinese. read more

This place is not terrible but after a mewl last night I am just now starting to recover from a wild 24 hours of throwing up. this place is more interested in the appearance and their bizarre crowd of diners than the quality of the food. I had wonton soup and chicken with rice last night for about $60 and it sucked.. contrast I had a similar meal in Chinatown New York for about $20 and it was outstanding. We live nearby and decided to get the Peking Duck as take-out. It was excellent and made us want to try a meal in the restaurant sometime. The pancakes for the duck skin were the thinnest I've ever experienced, and we loved that -- just enough to hold the wrap but fully taste the other flavors -- so light and delicious. One aspect that impressed me was that the order also included the carcas/bones, which still have meat on them. That was an unexpected surprise and greatly appreciated, and would have to be specifically asked for at most places we've had Peking Duck. read more

The food was great the service was below average and the resturant was beautiful. Our initial waiter hardly came to take care of us. I believe it was her boss sadi , who came by and made sure everything was okay. He ended up taking our order as well as getting us refills when we had to ask a second time. Our waiter only came to our table three times our entire experience and the last time was for the check. The table next to us also complained about the service here stating that this was way worse than any other time they have been here. But again sadi to the rescue making sure they had their extra limes and making sure their food was here on time. He checked on everyone in our section as well as other tables just to make sure we were enjoying ourself. He really was amazing I almost ordered the same thing twice he broke the menu for us gave us some recommendations. He checked on us frequently , laughed with us and made the experience worth while. If he isn't the manager he needs to be promoted for going above and beyond to make sure that everyone had a great experience. Our initial waiter did come back once we found out they were short staffed and she was running a good chunk of the tables in the resturant on her own. She apologized and was very sweet towards us. We ended our night with a red velvet cake which you need to just take home because it was wowowow so amazing. Actually the best red velvet cake I ever had. My spouse hates red velvet cake and he was soooo amazed at how good this one was. The food saved the day ! The dumpling sampler came with a veggie, shrimp and o believe a chicken dumpling. They were all immaculate ! The spring rolls and the black sauce was amazing ! Everything was cooked to perfection and the sauce stole the show. We ordered the Beijing chicken which was absolutely amazing tender juicy well seasoned covered in a great sauce. The nine season shrimp actually isn't spicy but it was breaded so well and cooked and seasoned very well. If you ever need a cheat meal this is definitely the place to come to how amazing ! The fried rice was good and flavorful but the lo mein was subpar very bland and sadly came to us cold. Thanks to the sweet lady who always came back to us to give us new dish wear before we could even think of it. And the sweet gentleman who brought our food to our table and always broke down what was what. They also gave us a complimentary glass of champagne for our anniversary. read more

I ascribe to the idea that man has free will and so that corresponds to me shouldering the responsibility for choices I make in life. To that end, I blame my self for staying at Phillipe Chow for a very mediocre meal. Listen, the place isn't my jam, but there were plenty of people with smiles on their faces snapping pictures of their dumplings and noodles, and I don't begrudge someone smiling more. I should have turned tail right away when I read the following words on the Phillipe Chow menu as I took a seat at the bar as a solo diner: "Phillipe Chow management reserves the right to determine if a guest needs to adjust their attire before being seated." I pride myself on being a snappy dresser, and only a couple hours before, I had been complemented on my outfit by a business colleague, but that sentence threw me off my pins. Was the manager giving me a side eye because my tweed vest wasn't necessarily blending with the hipness of the room? Again, I blame this one mostly on me...I really missed an opportunity to walk out and find a burger or something. But I finally got the attention of the bartender after a long time staring at a glass of water that had been set in front of me. The poor women was the solo bartender for the night, and she was clearly slammed, so I give her some grace for not seeing me for about 5 minutes. The meal itself gets a shrugging "meh" from me. I had the hot and sour soup, the duck dumplings, and the special spicy prawns. None of the dishes were bad, but I can't say that I remember them as anything more than modestly okay Chinese American food a day after my meal. I am going to give my bartender/server a shout out for doing me a solid when I asked after about 20 minutes of waiting for my main course, "Any update on the prawns?" and she had a look of surprise that they hadn't come out. She pushed through the order and it showed up a few minutes later, and then leaned over the bar and said to me, "Sorry it took so long, I've got that taken care of for you on the bill." A decent move for sure. Phillipe Chow seems like a nice place for others, but I'll call this a one and done for me. read more

Went here for a birthday party and Everything we tried was delicious. The service and our waiter was very helpful.

Let me break it down 1. Host stand - Upon arrival we checked into a very crowded chaotic scene I gave my name for my 7:30pm reservation I was told by the host they are waiting on a table. 20 minutes later we were seated. And then another 15 minutes before we saw a server. 2. Bathrooms - one of them were flooded and nothing was being done about it. After a few complaints they just put a wet floor sign verses saying the bathroom was out of order. People would open the door and then immediately be mortified of all the water on the floor. Also my friends second trip to the bathroom there was no toilet paper she went to ask the hostess who took forever to arrive she ended up just getting napkins from the bar. 3. Drinks - Pricey and small. The issue we had over all though was my friend ordered a drink "neat" and said no ice just to be clear. They gave it to him with ice. He politely asked for the drink to be remade. They brought him back the same drink and just took the ice out. Which was super disrespectful. 4. Food - they also got this wrong they brought my friend his food and it was incorrect 15 mins later they brought the correct item. Then another 10 mins later they brought another one. Poor communication. The food it was ok. Nothing to write home about. The apps were ok better than the entrees. For the money I thought it would be better. Took forever in between courses. Filet mignon was chewy (rare disguised as tender) and overly covered in this soy sauce concoction. I had to spit it out in my napkin I could barely chew it. The broccoli tasted like water and garlic no flavor at all. Dry fried rice. 5. Server - This dude was terrible after coming over 15 mins after we sat to greet us. He took drink orders. Which took a while. After he took our food orders we barely saw him again Never checked to see if our food was ok. He had to flag him down to get another drink. He just didn't care he had too many tables. Also once I saw he slapped on 20% gratuity I see why he provided such lackluster service he knew he had a guaranteed tip. 6. Close out - 30 minute wait for check. Not just for us but the 3 tables next to us. We trauma bonded on the poor service and long wait times with the table next to us. 7. Ambiance - The music is so loud. I felt like we were screaming at each other the entire night. It's too much. 8. I was vetting this place for my moms birthday dinner but now I want to cancel the reservation. Overall I do not recommend. read more

The lobster satay is amazing, as well as the prawns, and the Chilean sea bass. The waitress was very knowledgeable and everything she recommended was very good.
