It was my friend's birthday and she decided to go here for dinner. I've never been but, I know there's one in NY and most people rave about that location. We arrived on time and were seated right away. It was really cute inside and we sat at a small table since it was only 3 of us. It was a little tight, but it worked out. I wasn't sure what to get, but I started off with tasting a rosé the waiter recommended but I wasn't a huge fan-- the waiter was extremely nice about it and was really helpful and engaging throughout the entire process. I went with the Sauvignon blanc and that worked. My friends got the lemon drop and lychee martini. I started off with the pan seared beef dumplings and it was pretty decent. I then ordered the noodles. My friends ordered the sesame chicken and fried rice. My meal was pretty good, but I should've ordered more things to try. I guess I'll have to make it back to the more options on the menu and get a variety of items on the menu. Since it was my friend's birthday we also got the birthday fire thing which was really cool. She loved it. Overall it was a nice dinner and I would def recommend and I'll be back as well. This place was pretty inside & I love the location being around so much. The waiter I had was pretty rude though, questioned everything I ordered or asked for. Also I wanted to order dumplings but he said the steamer was broken although I saw someone else receive dumplings?? Lettuce wraps were okay, I have definitely had better. They gave way too much chicken and not enough lettuce. I really loved the Mongolian beef, the seasoning was amazing! It had a nice peppery taste and the beef was tender. The kung pao chicken was good but not my favorite. The chicken was juicy and everyone enjoyed it but I preferred the beef. The staff really knocked down the rating on this one. read more

Philippe Chow never disappoints! The vibe is always classy, sassy, and mellow. I had a taste for Asian cuisine, so I decided to venture over to the restaurant since I was at the Wharf. I was alone so I sat at the bar. The bar seating is lovely and I feel like there is adequate space to spread my dishes out. I ordered the pork fried rice and the chicken lettuce wraps. Can you say fantastic! Oh the flavor and aroma was simply amazing. It was definitely a good selection. The service was great also. I felt as if I was waited on hand and foot by Gianni. He answered all of my questions and even helped with my selections of food. He made a mean Pacific Old Fashioned, then I had a Manhattan with 3 cherries. It was on point. I really appreciate the kindness and sincerity of the staff and the great experience! This was my second time here. The first time the Chef/owner came out to greet us and it was super cool. Excellent service. Inviting ambience. Wonderfully attentive staff. The menu is very approachable (don't let the white table cloths scare you away). The Elevation cocktail was one of the better ones I've had in the city. Mildly creamy, not too sweet, with a lovely foam from the egg whites. You can also never go wrong with a cocktail that contains Ramazzotti; personal preference of course. Our filet with green beans was delicious. Beans and steak were perfectly cooked. The steak had a touch of pink and the green beans still had a nice bite to them. Everyone from the manager who touched the table, to our server, and our back servers made this experience flawless. If a water glass was low, someone swiftly arrived to refill without having to ask, despite the restaurant being very busy. We will be back! read more

this place is sooo expensive and so underwhelming. its physically beautiful and sleek the panda bear chopstick rests are so cute but when it comes to meal, it was a real let down. the veggies, from the scallion pancakes to eggplant to green beans were the only stars on the table. even the dumplings were meh, like you couldnt tell if it was pork, beef, or chicken (and we had ordered all 3, but taste wise the protein was not distinguishable). read more

I hosted my 40th birthday party with 27 people at Philippe Chow and it was an elevated experience! I planned the party 6 months in advance with Philippe Chow's event managers and the event was near perfect. My husband and I worked with Regina on selecting our menu based on the dining experience we had two times prior to the party. When I heard Philippe Chow was opening in DC in summer 2023, I booked almost right away having been to the iconic New York locations! I had several other DC restaurants on my list for a private party but we chose PC because of their 5 star customer service. We served a 4 course meal for our guests and I'll post the menu in the pictures. What I'll say is this is not your average Chinese restaurant. If you want a fun vibe with delicious food and don't mind spending a few dollars, this is your spot. The one critique that I have is that our party ran 45 minutes over the planned time because we were enjoying ourselves and we were charged $1k for the extra time. The rules were clear in the contract but we were having so much fun that the time got away from us. $100 extra would make sense but $1000 extra was a little excessive but understandable based on their business rules. I plan to have more date nights and girls nights out here. Probably the best restaurant on the wharf for the value in my opinion. Don't skip out on the lychee cocktail, Peking duck, salt and pepper calamari, any of the chicken dishes, and the baked Alaska. We can't wait to go back, this is an 10/10 addition to the DC restaurant scene. read more

The good: fantastic attentive service. The not so good: the food, the timing of kitchen and bar, and overall value for the price. My husband and I split the crispy beef and the mandarin chicken. The beef was excellent to start, but the pieces at the bottom of the dish were doused in too much sauce and overly salty. The chicken was fine for what you would get from a local Chinese place with linoleum floors and sticky plastic menus. Not for $34 and you pay extra for rice (and a standard portion size). My lychee martini was excellent. The food came out before our drinks came, which made us feel like part of the assembly line rather than valued guests. Again, service was great all around. But for $145 for two dishes that weren't memorable, a side of rice, a bourbon, and a martini, I won't be coming back despite the obviously well trained and caring staff. At the end of the day, you are paying for a name, and I'd rather spend 1/3rd of cost on the mom and pop place in my neighborhood if I can't tell the dishes apart. read more

Very average Chinese food. Yes the interior is beautiful but service was just ok and there was a huge lag between courses. The chicken satay appetizer was cooked in a really weird sauce and one piece of chicken had such an odd texture no one could eat it. The beef fried dumplings also were just ok and not great. I did like the veggie lo mein a lot. Also tried the filet with green beans and while the green beans were fine something was off with the beef! The Chilean sea bass also had a weird fishy flavor. The serving sizes for one are huge by the way. I will not be returning, there are much better options for this type of food that are less pricey and actually taste good. read more

I have been to several restaurants on the wharf this is by far the best service and the best food I have received. We ordered the bok choy, broccoli, lo mein, walnut prawns and Peking duck all was delicious! It is a good place for groups because you can share multiple plates. I will be going back. read more

I used to live in New York City and heard of this restaurant, but I never got a chance to go eat there until now in DC. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, but it was extremely crowded and loud. My friend was celebrating her birthday, so we sat in a quiet back room. Although my friends were late, every time we ordered drinks they took so long to arrive that we forgot we ordered drinks. The food came out relatively quickly. Our server seemed really busy and in the weeds, but I also know the restaurant was so busy, so I feel like that made the bar backed up, which really soured our experience. I would probably come back here to give it another chance on a week night. just to see if the service, food quality, and atmosphere are the same. We were there for the New Years Eve 15 course dinner. Let me start by saying the food was Spectacular. The service was at times prompt, very accommodating, professional and pleasant. This was evidently their very first run at such a grand undertaking. The amount of time I between courses was so extreme many people were upset and some even left. Some like us never got to several of the courses as we were already 5 hours into dinner and I believe we were on course 8 or 9 though the portions are huge and I can't imagine consuming that much food. I sincerely hope they get the kinks worked out. I can only assume imagine that managers were fired as this was clearly a management problem. We tipped the wait staff heavily to assure them that no one blamed them or the Kitchen staff for the fiasco. If they get the kinks worked out I believe this could be a favorite, worthy of a label "Destination Dinning experience." read more

We came here to celebrate my birthday... We really should have chosen some place else. When you go into a place willing to spend 3-4 dollar signs for a meal. You would expect 3-4 dollar signs worth of service. They were able to seat us right away fro or reservation, witch was very nice! There was a ton of people standing in the lobby. Get there early though because finding cheap parking is a mess! They really should validate your parking ticket, most really nice restraints do. There was a fire alarm going off most of our meal, witch I know they can not control. But they can at least let their tables know what is going on. The server was minimally attentive to us, just an order taker, no smile, no attentiveness, nothing. The food was mediocre. However the fish was so buttery!! The manager was super nice when we walked out he asked how our experience was and he was able to apologize and welcome us back for a 2nd try. We live out of state, so hopefully by the time we come back it gives them some time to improve. read more

First time at Philippe and it was amazing, the server was very educated on the menu and gave great recommendations. The drinks were so good, I had the lychee martini, it was just the right amount of strong. My friends had the Prosecco and Pearl Sangria. One of the Managers, Saudi was very hospitable. I rarely feel Compelled to write a review but I have to put this out here. Phillipe Chow DC should be absolutely ashamed for the Valentines Day experience. I have eaten at Phillipe Chow before and it was a great experience, so I was excited to come here for VDay. I was saddened to see that they oversold tables and understaffed the restaurant on this special day. Our reservation was at 8pm. We were seated at 9:20pm and it took the waiter until 9:45 to ask us for drinks and our appetizers. We left after midnight. The main issue is that they made everyone prepay and there were no refunds in addition to a crazy and shameful wait time. Straight greed! Looking at the reservations the day before they still had plenty open when they clearly were overbooked. There was one waiter in our section with about 10 tables. She looked overwhelmed and I felt for her having to handle angry people who all waited 1hr+ to be seated -- with nowhere to sit in the waiting area. We were originally told the wait for the reservation would be 30 mins and that we'd get a text. The text never came. We waited 1 hour and 45 mins to be seated and have our order taken. We strongly considered leaving multiple times while waiting. But again everyone prepaid and it was chaos. Next time Phillipe should not require prepayment and have a set number of reservations, also call in more staff to help. They had more people pouring water than waiting tables. On top of that we were promised a luxury experience and champagne upon being seated. We had to ask for the champagne and it came in a plastic party city cup that looked like it had been used, washed, and provided to us. I wish I took pics of the crowd. At the end of the night they said they ran out of takeout bags and offered the table next to us a cardboard box (like what you use at Costco) to take their food home. Wild. I will never see this place as a luxury restaurant or experience ever again. read more

Let's just start with ambiance of this amazing restaurant by the Philippe chow from the outdoor decor of the panda and the restaurant name in gold front it definitely stands out as we walked into this space our eyes were amazed like wow this place is stunning from the dim lights to the chandelier light fixtures and darkish blue walls to it's host stand and bar area which was a phenomenal bar setup from the chairs being angled out to the right side a full variety of branded liquors and the cocktails omg I totally recommend the what if ?I'm a huge fan of any drinks with mezcal but hands down this was one of the best mezcal cocktails I had as well as the Pacific Ocean old fashioned was good as well they even had the letter P engraved in the ice cube also had the split king cocktail it was more on the sweet side but a good cocktail to enjoy now let's talk about the dishes now I love places that portions out the food for family style serving which gives us the opportunity to try a bit of everything here we're my favorite dishes sweet &sour chicken ,the chicken satay with peanut sauce soo good the salt &pepper tofu amazing highly recommend the Peking duck spring rolls also recommend the dumpling sampler which included shrimp,chicken,&mushrooms also the filet mignon & green beans was deliciousness the meat was nice and tender not over cooked the sauce was amazing as well as the green beans highly recommend we paired it with the shrimp fried rice as well nothing to special about it and lastly mr.cheng's noodles was personally not my favorite dish as well as the bake Alaska the cotton candy and presentation was fantastic thou and last but not least the service from the hostess to the bartenders to our server and the manager sadi was overall amazing he check on our table a couple times which is much appreciated as well as the bussers they were on point with our change of plates and clearing our tables as well as refilling our waters I will definitely be back to this spot whenever I'm in dc overall read more

We had an AMAZING dinner here. The food is very good. The atmosphere is romantic with dim lighting. I liked it. HOWEVER, my boyfriend left his card and didn't noticed for a day or so. He thought he left if there but was unsure. He called during hours of operation and off hours. I did as well for days. No one answers the phone. The name on his card matches the name on our reservation. There was no call, text, or email that it was left. Terrible service. They had his card and could not answer why they do not answer their telephones. read more

I went here for dinner with my sibling, and overall we enjoyed our meal here. The reason for the four-star review is because of the wait time with a reservation, as well as the overall set up of the restaurant, which was very tightknit i.e. the seating, and the tables are very close together, so if you're trying to have a conversation with someone you might have to yell a little bit or speak very loudly. Our server was very attentive and checked on us, as well as the surrounding tables multiple times during the meal. I had the shrimp spring rolls, shrimp dumplings, the bok choy, and the nine seasons spicy prawns. My brother had the honey glazed spareribs, the Beijing chicken, and shrimp fried rice. Everything we ate there was delicious. My brothers only complaint was that the shrimp fried rice was $22 and it felt like a side of shrimp fried rice, but it was still really good. With the spring rolls, they give you a sweet chili sauce that tastes so good and does not resemble any sweet chili sauce that I've ever had, but it tasted just like sweet chili sauce. I didn't particularly care for the sauce that came with the shrimp dumplings, but pairing the dumplings with the sweet chili sauce was just fine. For the main courses, the portions were about what you would expect. I also like the fact that, after we had our appetizers, we were provided with warm towels to wipe our hands with. We definitely left there with leftovers and full bellies. Overall we spent about $280 with tip including the drinks that my brother and I got. We will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes that are there as we definitely had a wonderful experience. read more

I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. It was low lighting but not too low to where you couldn't see. Nice dinner lighting. There was no wait as we did reservations for my friend birthday. The drinks were amazing from the bartender. the food was amazing and delicious. It was family style so it was more than enough to go around. I'm allergic to mushrooms and the waiter took his time with telling me what I could and couldn't eat and what was even prepared with mushrooms. Will be returning. Worth every penny!! read more

New wharf restaurant alert! We decided to pop in to Phillipe Chow one evening sans reservation (crazy, right?!). For a Wednesday at 8pm, the place was packed and lively! They did not have any availability for us so we sat at the bar. As someone in a wheelchair, I was happy to learn that their bar had a lowered counter. The lowered counter is apparently never used, however, as it took about 10 minutes for the staff to figure out how to get it down. The bartenders are incredibly accommodating and welcoming. We ordered the veggie fried rice (delicious!), salt and pepper tofu (way too salty!), shrimp fried rice (yum!), and salt and pepper cod (pretty good). The prices were reasonable, the cocktails are decent, and the ambiance is lively. It definitely didn't feel like I was walking into a restaurant that has only been open for a few weeks. Everything seemed to run smoothly and besides the bar situation, I didn't notice any kinks. Ooh the servers are all super stylish! Love that for them. read more

Just had an incredible dinner at Philippe Chow. Happened upon this spot by accident as it is at the far end of the Wharf. The restaurant is stunning with most of the restaurant with water views. Although not the busiest as we dined early the staff were amazing. Food came out quickly but not rushed. Cocktail list is ok but suited our needs. I am a bit surprised to the experience being so good as most places on the Wharf seem to be just ok and nothing more. We will definitely be back!!! read more
