First thing's first, if you can Uber here, do it lol. Parking at the Wharf in general is usually chaotic, and this was no exception. It took me 15 minutes to find a parking spot lol. I also recommend making a reservation here. Check-in was easy, and we didnt have a wait. Now the fun part! Daniel was our server, and he was great from beginning to the very end! All of his recommendations were a hit, and he was very efficient with closing us out when we were ready to head out! We came here for brunch ($75pp/$96ish after taxes and gratuity). It includes bottomless mimosas and apps. If you LOVE pulp, you will enjoy the original mimosa here. If you dont like pulp, pick something else the amount of pulp in the original mimosa is obnoxious lol. Daniel accidentally brought me the midori one, and I decided to try it because why not? It was surprisingly good! Honestly, we liked all of the mimosa options except the OJ one lol. For the apps we got the following: - shrimp spring rolls: delicious and they had a good amount of shrimp in them! - soup dumplings: DELICIOUS - crispy duck salad: the duck to salad ratio was annoying, but the duck was good lol. It's the only one I would not order again. - lobster pancake: my friends loved this! - Veggie lo mein: SO good For entrees we got the following: - Sweet and sour salmon: Delicious and perfectly cooked - Crispy beef: This was the best recommendation Daniel made all day. It is DELICIOUS. Not too heavy and perfectly cooked. Not too chewy at all. He recommended eating it right away though because if you let it sit too long and get cold, it will get tougher and he was right . I was almost full by the time it came out so I ate it slowly and definitely noticed the change. I didnt care though I would order it again and again. So so good. If you eat red meat, order this! Dessert: We got all of the options they are all good if you save room for them lol. Red velvet was my favorite! Such a great experience and even better food. I will absolutely return here! read more

The food was exceptional and the service as outstanding. Anthony was our waiter and he was amazing!! Love the vibe and ambiance.

Came here mid week for dinner. The place was really loud and I didn't feel the vibe. Although the welcoming receptionist was nice. The bar was loud. The dining room was loud. When my friend arrived, they seated us in a more quiet back room and it was heaven. I personally hate the 2-top tables against a wall jammed inbetween other 2- tops. I was especially concerned because we tend to over order and a 4-top is needed. I mentioned it to the waiter but he said not to worry. Luckily the two tables on each side of us left before we got the duck and they pushed another table over. Note to self- request 4-top in reservation. The lychee martini was good. Since my friend had been there many times, he steered me toward the cilantro dumplings. Wow! They were good. We also ordered the pork ones. They were good but I wish I ate less and saved more room. Next course we got the yummy bok Choy Choi which were coooked perfectly and the Salt and pepper fish which was incredible. Would get both again! They served white rice in a beautiful silver lidded container. Then we got the duck which they carve table side. Awesome! The duck had so much meat!!! They offered to refill any pancakes and sauce upon request. I REALLY wanted the cotton candy baked Alaska. But there is a crazy story about a dinner guest from the fire dept who pointed out the size of the flame and now they are obtaining a permit. So disappointed! Oh well. I'll have to go back! read more

The Restaurant week menu had great selections; something for everyone. For starters, we had veggie lo mein, chicken satay, and chicken lettuce wrap. Entree - orange chicken and filet mignon Dessert - chocolate cake and red velvet The portions were pretty decent. The food was okay , nothing special. The chicken satay was too buttery and couldn't taste the peanut sauce. The service was very fast and attentive. I loved how the restaurant was dimly lit. read more

This place has been on my list to check out, so we came here for my birthday. Loved the ambiance and our server was great. We tried the beef lettuce wraps for appetizer, they were pretty good. I tried their future version of an old fashion which was good. They also have us champagne since it was my birthday I got the lobster fried rice and king crab legs for my entree. My boyfriend got the spicy chicken. The crab was really good, the sauce really set it off. The lobster in the fried rice was cooked perfectly. The spicy chicken was flavorful and very tender. Definitely recommend this place for a special occasion or date night! read more

We ordered Peking Duck 24 hours in advance of our reservation. Shortly after we were seated, a chef came to our table to carefully sliced the bird and served it with plum sauce. The service and ambiance were great. The prawn shrimp was terrible. Two people from my party ordered a shrimp dish and it had a very wild/old taste. It was so bad that I could not finish and had to throw it away. For the price, we were not satisfied, and I will not return. read more

Phillipe Chow, bravo. Went to celebrate a queen's 40th, and we had a birthday menu, family style. Lettuce wraps super flavorful. Spring rolls and chicken satay were cool as well. 2nd course- Thai chili shrimp, Beef and green beans, chicken (with walnuts), Chilean sea bass- YUM. Third was duck. And finished with a variety of cakes, ice cream, and sorbet like they thought there was any more room in my belly!!! How dare. But truly a great experience with great wait service and a beautiful venue. read more

Five of us did the bucketlisters Moët & Satay on the Wharf: A Luxe Waterfront 4 course Dining & Champagne Experience at Philippe Chow DC. To start for every 2 people you are supposed to receive one bottle of Moët & Chandon Champagne and if it's an odd number of people 2 additional cocktails. However we didn't want champagne and they were gracious enough to substitute 2 drinks for each person instead. For the first two courses and the last course you get everything on the menu and for the 3rd course you pick your individual entree. I enjoyed almost everything that came out, ate all the edamame before I took the photo, and started taking photos after we started eating so sorry ‍. The only thing that wasn't my cup of tea was the chicken satay; it was well cooked and moist which isn't always the case with satay but the sauce tasted buttery and the chicken and sauce could've used more seasoning. For an entree I shared the sweet and sour chicken and spicy pepper mignon with one of my friends and they were delicious but I will admit I was extremely, happily, full by the time the entree came out even though the previous courses were small plates. The red velvet cake was delicious and moist and for my friend's birthday they did a baked Alaska presentation that was nice however the alcohol on the baked Alaska takes over the flavor and it ends up tasting like a shot of alcohol which if I wasn't full may not have been an issue but I will say if you would actually like to try baked Alaska this isn't the one to base your opinion of it on. Overall loved the ambiance, service staff including our great waiter Jason, drinks, and food. Also keep in mind parking at the Wharf is generally $49 read more

Did you know on Tuesdays there is a 9 course lobster menu? There is, but you have to ask up front. We found out via TikTok and made a reservation. The restaurant is in the wharf and parking was easy enough in the garage. There is actually one right next to to the restaurant. The restaurant was packed at 7pm on a Tuesday during the week in between Christmas and New Years. Lots of birthday celebrations and family gatherings. The restaurant is very pretty and intimate. We ordered our lobster menu and was served with the first course within minutes. I'm telling you, this isn't just lobster taste, there are huge chunks of lobster in every course. If you have done many tasting menus in the district you typically truly only get a little bit of each course. Not here. It was so great to walk out with some leftovers (in their comically huge bags). This is $95 per person and I think worth every penny. Big kudos to our server Umberto who made the night extra special!!! Defined will go back!! Food was great BUT the price does NOT justify the small portions. For that price range we expected normal portions, not individual portions. I absolutly recommend. From the moment we walked in the ambiance and environment was saturated with high expectations and great service. We were seated quickly (all on time) with our reservation. We were met with an experienced waiter or was so great, he was training another gentlemen. They were both so helpful, Kind, and conversational. He explained the menu to us in detail with some added character, with recommendations. He realized we were there celebrating a promotion for a friend and zoned in on the attention. We enjoyed the lighting and even when the accomodated our HOT flashes (Table full of women). They allowed us to sing to her and we filled our bellies. The FOOD is PHENOMENAL!! We had a bit of a roller coaster dinner. Menu looked great and service and appetizers were quick, hot and scrumptious. Then service slowed down as they had some staffing issues. The duck took almost twice as long as listed. Then dinner came and it was excellent and worth the wait. And the dessert was a fun show! I recommend this restaurant as long as you are not in a hurry. Also, it was warm on the patio and they could not turn off the fire feature which was making us uncomfortable. So maybe avoid those seats during the day. read more

We pre-paid for a "Valentine's dinner experience" at 7:30. We had to wait 90 minutes at the bar to be seated. The lychee martini that was being ordered all around ran out by 8pm. The entrance and bar became packed and couples were outside in the cold due to the extreme delays for pre-paid tables. We were finally called up to get our table at 9pm. I heard the hostess telling new arrivals that it was going to be "awhile" because people were "staying at their tables for three hours". This turned out to be sort of true, my husband and I did indeed have to wait at our table for 3 hours for all dishes and the check to come out. The restaurant was dramatically overbooked and the hostess blamed the wait on its patrons. Our tiny table was less than a foot away from the tiny tables on the left and right of us. We all joked that we were going to get to know each other very well. It was loud so you had to speak up to be heard over the music. Everyone was on top of each other. Not a romantic vibe. The menu was brought and we said we were there for the Valentine's experience (prepaid $300+). Turns out you just order from the regular menu and you get a champagne in a plastic cup. I anticipated maybe a 4 course meal of tiny platters- something special from a renowned chef. Instead, we got unsalted bok choy, dehydrated eggplant, scallion pancakes with no hint of scallion, truffle soup dumplings that had split open pouring out all their soup, crispy beef that had almost no beef (99% fried dough) and a fish that was good but not great. We also ordered the duck and it took ages. By then the bok choy was ice cold but we'd kept it for when the duck would arrive so we didn't have to eat duck by itself. The duck was forgettable, the skin was soggy instead of very crispy. No flavor, thick plum sauce. The duck was served on a plate with giant spoons, no fork. It was worse than Chinese takeout and it all lacked the flavor and spice I've come to know from good Chinese food. I am far from picky when it comes to restaurants but this place could not convince me to come back at any price point. Overall, for over $400 I was expecting an amazing meal and great space. To be so let down but such bad food was painful and the extreme wait and tight quarters killed the romance. My husband and I made a long drive and planned a fun night but it turned out to be memorable for all the wrong reasons. To top it all off, I woke up a few hours later violently ill and cannot bring myself to even look at the leftovers in the fridge. I'm sad to write such a sorry review for them but so much went wrong beyond a mere scheduling failure, and at such a high price point and on a special night. I tried to think of something redeeming that could bump it to a 2-star but could not think of a thing. The wait staff did their absolute best, that's about all I can say that's positive. read more

The service was impeccable. Our server Myrna and Manager George were attentive and professional. We appreciated their recommendations (though both gave the same set of recommendations) - George was gracious enough to send us an order of the Chilean Sea Bass on the house! A note of feedback, both Myrna and George promised us neither the Nine Seasons Spicy Prawns nor the Kung Pao Chicken were spicy as one of our party doesn't do spice....let me tell you they were definitely spicy! We came here for dinner last night. We ordered a bottle of white wine. The wine was alright, but it wasn't chilled. I wish I had tried one of the cocktails instead. One of my favorite foods is Peking Duck, so we came here specifically to try Philippe's Peking Duck. It isn't the best duck I've ever had, but it is delicious! The duck was carved table-side, and was served with paper-thin pancakes, plum sauce, green onions, and cucumber. The duck was very fatty, since the fat hadn't completely rendered. Obviously, this is an upscale restaurant, reserved for special occasions. The decor is beautiful, though the tables are pretty close together. The service was good; there was a period of time when our server didn't come to check on us, but it had gotten busier. Overall, it was a nice dinner in a beautiful restaurant. read more

The ambiance is great however the place is completely small for the amount of service they tend to. The sits are too close together it makes it hard for you to enjoy your meal if you order multiple plates and it's no privacy between conversation. The presentation of the food was immaculate but not so much in taste. The rice was the most flavorful. I had the ribs which lacked so much flavor, seemed like they just threw some sticky sauce over and served them. The filet and strings beans were ok, a lil too salty. The chicken was good. My espresso martini was good as well. Overall I'm glad experienced it however it's not a place I will frequent. read more

Philippe Chow - Chinese Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Anthony was amazing. He was attentive and made our visit so wonderful. When you visit, ask for him!

Mixed dumpling appetizer was very doughy and mostly tasteless. Brown sauce was pungent and too vinegary. Nine seasons prawns were properly cooked with a very good sauce, but the prawns were breaded too heavily which greatly detracted from a potentially excellent dish. Special prawns were very tasty. However, it was ordered by someone who is sensitive to spicy foods. The sliced vegetables in the dish were scattered with slices of dried chilis which produced unwanted coughing fits. There was no indication this was a spicy dish. They do not have iced tea on the menu. However the bartender was able to make me some. Overall very expensive. Wine by the glass was generally $25+ read more

I am a chef. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures. 2/5. There were some good elements but I will not be returning. We ordered the chicken satay, scallion pancakes, bok choy, and crispy duck. The chicken satay looked and tasted like candied chicken (in a very bad way), and the peanut sauce did not taste like peanut. The menu specified three pieces but they tried to give us two pieces, and looked confused when I asked where the third was. I shouldn't have said anything, we didn't even eat the third. Everyone around us had ordered it, and nobody had finished it. The scallion pancakes were good but the sauce was very disappointing. Scallion pancakes need to be served with either a sesame soy, a chili ginger or maybe a peanut sauce. What they gave us was a tasteless, clear sauce that went unidentified (the sauce as not listed on the menu). The bok choy was not completely cleaned and the sauce was slightly clumpy. It seemed like they used a sort of starch to thicken it but didn't fully cook it out. The crispy duck was good but far too underserved to be worth $40. It was served with house made pancakes which were also good, however each pancake was separated by a thin piece of silicon-lined parchment paper. One of the people in my party accidentally ate some of the paper, and the manager informed us that his customers OFTEN EAT THE PAPER..........you'd think they would have warned us, especially since I am sure that it is not food-grade. While the manager seemed to think it was funny, my friend was so disgusted that she was unable to continue eating. We didn't order the fortune cookie red velvet cake, which is probably a good thing since everyone around us had ordered it and had left leaving over half of the dessert behind. read more

The word that comes to mind when I think of Philippe Chow is.. ambitious. And while I get the vision, they didn't quite hit the mark on all aspects of the experience. The feel of the restaurant is very sophisticated and mature, with dark coloured furniture and accents of gold (e.g the lamps that are found on every table, that add to the intimacy of the setting). However the bathroom was so small that a "line" of one person waiting for a stall and two extra people by the sink resulted in said person getting hit by the door upon my attempted entry. Additionally it was inadequately lit. While I am a sucker for style and pizzaz, utility shouldn't be sacrificed for such things; as I could barely see my reflection in the mirror. The service wasn't exactly exceptional either. There was a pretty long wait before we were greeted by our server and there were notable laps of his presence in between ordering our drinks and food, despite being around and surveying the tables from time to time. I also couldn't help but notice the stain of what I could only presume was food on his white overcoat; neither here nor there for me but it did catch my attention. Nevertheless he was pretty genial, and was attentive when there was a mix up with our order. The food was the highlight, and the créme de la créme of all reviews, so let's get to it shall we: it should be noted that my family and I visited for restaurant week and opted for that menu. Among us we had the Lo Mein, Shrimp Satay, Branzino, Garlic Broccoli, Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Vegetable Fried Rice. The VFR was extremely tasty and it was the consensus that it was the best tasting dish brought to the table. Every other item listed got thumbs up from my family except for the Branzino which was unfortunately described as "bland" and "in need of some love" from people in my party that had it. Would I attend again? Yes. Would I recommend to someone? Sure. However, if you're striving for excellence then you need to do it wholeheartedly and I can say pretty confidently that they are not there yet. read more

Location is key when it comes to restaurants, at least in my book, and the revamped DC waterfront is fresh and new, which makes for a better experience. I've heard of Philippe Chow, but have never had the occasion or desire to try it out. My wife was excited when she heard they were opening up a location in DC. I confess to being ambivalent about it - if I want Chinese, there's a few options that I happen to like. I wasn't expecting anything really when we first went. The restaurant itself is a gorgeous thing - lots of light let in by big windows, dark wood elements but instead of chrome, there's a lot of gold tones. There's indoor and outdoor seating, both make good use of the limited space; it can get a bit tight when its full, but it stops just shy of being uncomfortable. Enough about that though, the food is what really made this place get that 4th star out of me. If I had to sum it up succinctly, I would say that this is carryout fare taken to a much higher level. From the presentation to the flavors, its a cut above any Chinese you've had that caters to American tastes. Nothing frozen or canned, you can taste the freshness of the ingredients and it is all prepared very, very well. They have an extensive drink menu too - if you've never had it, I suggest trying the French 75. Its refreshing, thirst quenching and tasty, but be careful - it has a bit of a punch and you'll go through them like the best summer drink you've ever had. Philippe Chow himself came out to greet all the diners; that was unexpected, but pleasant. I can't recall the last time the chef came out to greet the dining crowd, its a nice touch. Of course he's not always going to be there, he has other PCs that I'm sure he visits from time to time. We tried out a few of the menu entrees just to get a feel for what to expect; we had the House Mignon, which I found to be a bit salty; the scallion pancakes were not what I expected - they were more like a deep fried naan bread with scallions folded in and a lightly sweet sauce to dip it in, but the Kung Pao chicken was exceptional. Lightly fried and adorned with a tasty, spicy red sauce, the chicken was slightly crisply as well as tender and juicy and the taste buds just perked right on up! We ordered garlic broccoli just to get some veg on the table. The fried rice is also excellent - I believe its the quality of the ingredients that sets this food apart from your usual carryout fare. The portions are generously sized. It had better be the case too - the price to dine is high. Don't come here looking to eat on a budget, you're going to spend some money! In my opinion, it is well worth it. read more

Our first time at Phillipe Chow and it was amazing. Nice clean restaurant. Good atmosphere. The food was incredible. The hot and sour soup was the best hot and sour soup I've ever had. Our waiter Julio was great and took good care of us. Julio - our server - was amazing and took care of us. He explained the menu well and asked to make sure we were ready for entrees to come out. We were looking for an upscale dining experience. The website portrays this to be so with all the language about dress code and how management will enforce it, etc. We got there, and it was kind of like the old high school prank where your invitation says it's a costume party, but it really isn't, so the joke is on you. Baseball caps, t-shirts, and shorts were in the house at 7pm on a Thursday evening. In addition, you are also blasted with loud disco/techno music the minute you step inside. Ambience was nowhere to be found. Despite the disconnect over the ambience, we held out hope for the food. How can I put this kindly? My local Chinese carryout has better food. My SO ordered the hot and sour soup as the starter. It was good but not much different than what a local carryout provides. And, as a starter, the portion was simply too large. The bowl would be sufficient if you were having that as your meal. I ordered the steamed vegetable dumplings. They were crying for some garlic and/or ginger. They could not stand on their own merit without some sauce. The mains were even more baffling. My SO ordered the crispy duck. I think at some point before it arrived at our table, it was crispy, perhaps around lunchtime? It was literally sliced, dry, lukewarm duck on a white, blank plate. In a separate steamer were the pancakes, and in another small dish was a stack of sliced scallion. A dab of plum sauce was in another small dish. It was boring to look at and just sad. My meal fared no better. I ordered Kung Pao chicken. The best part of it was the peanuts and the side of white rice. Several hours later, I'm still thinking about it and trying to figure out how in the heck, they managed to ruin the chicken! It had this weird, processed like texture to it. As if maybe it had been in a brine for days that then changed the texture to this alien life form. If it had been a blind taste test, not a person in the world would have guessed the substance was chicken. I'm not even joking, it was incredibly bad. I never thought a McDonald's chicken nugget would be voted superior over anything..but..... On a positive note, our server was lovely. Unfortunately, she also had several tables, and we didn't see much of her. This mess of a meal wasn't worth calling the manager over for. Nothing they could do would have fixed this. The problems here are systemic to the entire operation. Save your money and skip this place. It just did not live up to any level of excellence or creativity. There was nothing innovative about the food we ordered (although, to be fair, the table next to us had a cotton candy dessert they flamed - so that was innovative) and the luxury and indulgence they say they provide is MIA. read more

This time around it was awful. I have been here a few times and the first time (when it opened), it was great. The second time good. This time awful. I never seen any place go downhill that fast. I went on a Friday night for my birthday. It was EMPTY. The service was awful. Our waiter was in the air and forgetful and disappeared a lot. They add gratuity so they don't even try to be good. I sat down prior to the rest of the party. I waited about 25 mins for the others to find parking. The waiter did not come to my table the whole time to ask me for anything. The drinks always take forever. The food was awful. I have no idea what happened. The crispy beef was soggy and saucy. It has no flavor. The dumplings and spring rolls use to be great and they were not this time around. Everything was soggy and did not taste fresh. The fried rice was bland. I asked for a cup of pineapple juice and they gave me hot pineapple juice. The bill took forever to come. We literally sat there for like 30 mins. Then when we were ready to give payment, he disappeared again for another 20 mins and we had to go find him. When we found him, he was startled like he totally forgot he had to be a waiter, we should not have to pay at the hostess stand because our waiter was no where to be found. I kid you not, we could of easily walked out without paying. EASILY not going back. It's a shame the DC location can't keep up. read more
