Celebrated my daughters' birthday here in late November. We had reservations for 10 and were seated at the table placed orders for drinks and apps. Then we had 4 more guests from out of town pop up. We apologized profusely to the manager but he said that there was no need to apologize and he jumped right into action to accommodate There was no room to seat the late unexpected guest next to us but the manager Mr. George Foreman leapt right into action and within 15 minutes he was able to seat us in a separate section away from everyone else which allowed us to sit together. We enjoyed our meal and our service. I believe our waiter was Rao. Poor guy we had him all over the place. The birthday celebration was great sparkle on a cake of sorts probably red velvet. Drinks are pricey but we knew that going in, Hence why they still received 5 stars. Thank you George Forman and Rao for keeping your composure and making it so we could all sit together comfortably. Very attentive, extremely funny and made sure our anniversary was special. I recently learned I've been living under a rock not knowing about Philippe Chow. My brothers and I took my mom to celebrate her birthday on a Thursday evening for their first reservation time at 5. I was greeted and given the opportunity to choose our table which I loved, once I chose our table I placed her gifts there and our cake was taken to the back. The restaurant is so beautiful with dim lighting and sits on the water with glass windows panning majority of the building. They had these cute pandas on the table my mom referred to as "sexy ladies", when you see them you'll get it. They charge a $5 pp cutting fee, no biggie. Once my family arrived we were greeted by our waiter who shared specials for the evening. He also brought us complimentary champagne on behalf of her birthday which was so nice. The menu is family style with great portion sizes to share everything. We started with the duck and cilantro dumplings and chicken dumplings, I'm still blown out the water about them. So flavorful, rich and satisfying. We ordered several things from the menu after we salivated over the dumplings. We ordered lobster fried rice, vegetable fried rice, Mr. Chengs noodles, salt and pepper sea bass, chicken Jo lau and spicy pepper mignon. Man oh man, if I HAVE to choose a favorite, I'm going with the salt and pepper sea bass. The crispyness, the red sauce.... THE RED SAUCE, I wasn't even expecting it or ready for it but it added just the perfect kick I needed. 10/10 would recommend for any type of occasion. I highly recommend making reservations. Just dined in at Philippe Chow DC the second time this week. Ambiance is top notch from the entrance to the table. The host were very friendly and got us seated both time with little to no wait. As if they were waiting for us to get there. I loved that cause I hate to wait. Once seated we were greeted by our server within a few minutes. First time Manny was my server second time it was Kate. Both servers were knowledgeable of the menu especially Kate. I loved to see how present and hands on the manager Saudi was on the floor during both visited. I observed him checking on each table that was seated in the area I was seated in. It's little things like that that completes a great dining experience. Now the food Spring rolls with clear sauce, crispy duck, shrimp fried rice , vegetables lo mein, kung pao chicken was all 10 out of 10. We truly enjoyed everything thats why we came back a second time. Next up the drinks Ashely the bartender made me the best lemon drop I ever had and I have had plenty. Her personality was everything and she was also very knowledgeable of the liquor selection they offer. I think this is my new favorite restaurant. This was my second time finding at Philippe Chow. Unfortunately, it was not a good dining experience. The food was mid, lacked flavor, and was barely hot. My dessert was rock hard frozen and I could barely eat it. My friend said her shrimp satay skewer with peanut sauce tasted like it was just dipped in butter. The service was ok but I wish we would've had a more attentive waiter, especially considering how attentive the manager was to the table next to us. We had two very different experiences. Last but not least, the ambiance was awful for a Tuesday night. The music was SO LOUD and definitely did not match the vibe the restaurant tries to give off. I could barely hear my friend and she was sitting right across from me. We were there for restaurant week. I do not think restaurants should participate in Restaurant Week if they plan on serving food of a lower quality and providing bad vibes to match. Served Lipton tea at an upscale restaurant representing the land of tea. Peking duck was great so ordered for pickup. My GF and I made an effort and when we arrived we were disappointed to see a couple next to us with the guy wearing high top socks, slippers, shorts, and a white undershirt. I want to be clear that this review is not about the prices (which are expected for a hotel restaurant at the Wharf), the food (which was delicious and well-portioned), or the cocktails (which were tasty and creative). This review is for the implementation of the "Valentine's Day experience." As summarized on WharfDC.com: "Philippe Chow is offering a glass of bubbles to accompany their Valentine's Day experience from 2/14 - 2/18 for $125 per person. For those dining at Philippe Chow on Valentine's Day, each couple will also be gifted a box of gourmet chocolates and a long-stemmed rose." With adding drinks to the prepaid experience, along with a bunch of fees and gratuity, my sweet and well-meaning partner paid ~$350 for this experience. Which is a lot of money! He thought he was paying for a tasting menu (which they have and could have maybe adapted for Valentine's Day?). But instead when we arrived we found out that we had to order everything a la carte and would be charged for what we ordered above our prepaid amount. Fine - but a strange model I have never encountered when pre-paying for a reservation. It was frustrating to keep a mental tab on what we ordered and how much $ we had left to spend, which is what they were likely counting on so people would order above what they prepaid. Also, our server struggled to explain this model to us, meaning that it was likely also explained to her poorly by management. The restaurant was slammed, and servers and patrons alike were confused. It took 45 minutes for us to receive the drinks we ordered, and 1 hour to receive our appetizers. We did receive a rose and a glass of bubbly wine as advertised, but never received chocolates. For 350 dollars in this economy, I ask you to do better, Philippe Chow. read more

To begin there is zero consideration to what patrons wear although the website would say different... ripped cut offs, tank tops, leggings with bralettes, saggy jeans.. this place has zero sophistication Nothing positive about this experience AT ALL. Brought family from out of town thinking this would be a lovely DC evening on the water.. WRONG. Waited over 40 minutes just to get drinks delivered to the table with the excuse of only one bar tender working yet the clientele at the bar seemed to be receiving A1 service. Plenty of waiters who could have been pouring wine or beer instead of standing around. When food arrived it was room temperature at best. We were passed off from our original waiter to a second who was quite a bit more interested in our dining experience and the manager did offer comped dessert after we complained about the service, not that we would have ordered dessert. Adding insult to injury however they added an auto tip of 20% on the bill. FOR WHAT I ASK?? Isn't a tip meant as gratuity? There was nothing about this dinner that evoked gratitude and we were less than 6 people. Honestly the food was no better than PF Changs, although PFC food arrives hot. NEVER, NEVER will I return or recommend after that abysmal experience of flea market attire, nonexistent customer service, mediocre cold food and the balls to throw an auto tip on overinflated charges. There are plenty of great restaurants at the Wharf, this is not one. Skip the extra 20 feet to the last stop at the Wharf and dine at ANY other establishment, you will surely thank me. read more
