We went to ask for more rice and told them that they gave very little! They did not even offer a free scope! We ended up paying 1.40 for the extra rice! Five stars for the gracious service and Tuesday discount for seniors. Some dishes stand out, some don't. I like the bistek (Filipino version of beef steak cooked with soy sauce, lemon or some other sour ingredient like vinegar, and onions). I also like the dish with seafood, pork, and coconut milk. The fish sinigangs are good. I have not tried the meat sinigangs. The grilled items are hit and miss, it could be dry from sitting in the warmers for hours. Some dishes are somewhat salty for my taste. It's very reasonably priced and it's good to buy food when they are just coming out of the kitchen and that is as soon as they open. My disappointing experience was buying what I was told was goat meat caldereta which is my preference. I ate it at home and no self-respecting goat would be that fat. Apparently it was lamb. I like lamb but not lamb caldereta. Do I recommend this place? Of course. Filipino food is comfort food and for less than $15, you get a hefty meal and if you want to be sure everything you get is delicious, you can request for a very, very small sample. At the entrance, the variety of chicharon types is delightful. The selection of meals are sufficient. Wish they had more soup and broth dishes at a given time. Music could use a better selection. Went with my parent last weekend to PhilHouse we wanted to try something new instead of always going to DJ's Bibingkahan. I feel like they have more fried or grilled options here but as far as ulam or different entrees they have more options at DJ's. They do serve big portions here which is great. I got the kare-kare and I forgot already what my parents ordered. The kare-kare was good but some of the tripe was makunat aka chewy. It was hard to cut or bite through it, not sure if it was cooked long enough. It was still good though. I like the seating inside the orange booths make it look new and modern. I have always ordered my food quick and easy until out of nowhere they have rules when it comes to "free soup" one for each combo plate, but they give you a HEAPING Amount of rice the combo can be split into two portions. (Feeding a party of 4 for the XXL). She says, "UGH ITS SO MUCH TO TRANSFER THE FOOD!" Then I say "can you just add more soup in a smaller container so you don't have to waste the large container?" At this point, I didn't even want to buy the food anymore because she's so rude, so I changed my mind and she's continuously giving eye rolls. I'm at the cashier and she's rude too. I came for some Halo Halo. Usually they put Ube ice cream NOT Avocado. The main lady did not even ask if I still wanted it, she was just going to ring it up. After I told her I was allergic to Avocado, she said "so you don't want it?". I say, "well I can die". She proceeds to scrape the Avocado ice cream off but hides the remainder with more ice and keeps the spoon and cap with avocado on it. At this point, (I am pregnant and trying to keep My temper to a minimum), I just say "I can die from any avocado" and she only changes the top. You never know when a paying customer has had a bad day and it just takes something like that to make them feel more miserable. Theres a nice way to let paying customers know its almost closing time and blasting the radio is not the most appreciated way to let them know. For whoever was playing the music tonight, please be mindful of the explicit lyrics, one of the mashups playing had a DMX vocal mixed in dropping F bombs.
