((4.25 stars)) Phebe's is a fairly large tavern/bar --the crowd can be Bengal Fans during NFL season to a mix of college-ish and post-college crowds during happy hours and nights. haven't been here for a minute -- as rooting for the Pats here would be a no-no at Phebes...sorry Joe Burrow! ha. anyway, the space is a casual vibes tavern with two bars and has that warm dark-worn worn-in pub feel to it (yes, i know "pubs" and "taverns" are considered different, but that is my faux pas to own). it was all tastefully holiday decorated when i was there and i appreciate places that embrace the holidays and are festive. stopped here for a late lunch (who says breakfast has to be the most important meal of the day) when one can enjoy a quality cheeseburger and fries with a beverage. the Classic Burger comes with hand-cut fries. the burger is very good. a fat meaty well-seasoned burger patty on a sesame bun. ordered it medium-rare and no surprise, it was cooked proficiently with the American cheese being melty. lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles served on the side. while smash burgers are all the rage--traditional burgers like the ones at Phebes are still damn good and make for an enjoyable lunch. the French fries are hand-cut and fried to crispy goodness with soft potat-ey insides. the service was friendly enough and everything went smoothly from start to finish. forgot Phebe's offers lunch and it's a great option if you're in the East Village and want a good sit-down meal from bar comfort classics like burgers to more ambitious plates like roasted salmon. the lunch vibe is a bit more chill and relaxed. but except the energy and volume to be up when it's evening or after and couple in sports seasons as there are a good amount of screens here if you're looking to catch a game while you eat or drink. and obviously there are a good amount of happy hour specials if you're seeking an adult beverage after work! don't sleep on the food, here, as Phebe's isn't just any old bar. read more

Phebe's is a reliable go-to when Peggy and I are in the neighborhood, and a terrific place for dinner before a show at the Public Theater, four minutes away. The vibe is sports bar. We like seeing games when we're there. Service is excellent. Everyone serving seems sincerely dedicated to ensuring you have a good experience there. We've enjoyed Phebe's wings, double cheeseburger, nachos (without meat), and Spinach and Artichoke dip. All the food we've tried is good to very good. There's a Happy Hour with good values running until 8 PM, M-F. Cocktails we've tried and liked are Garden Gimlet, Smokey Tropic, Mango Habanero margarita (some of these are off their happy hour menu). We'll go there again. This review is for takeout as I haven't been in to the bar for drinks just yet. We order the wings and a side of fries for delivery every so often. Hands down, they have the best buffalo wings in all of Manhattan! The fries are like fresh cut and so good. My only complaint is they only send a small side of blue cheese dressing. The restaurant itself is very loud and usually crowded, so it's hard to carry a conversation beyond two or three people seated closely together, but our large group enjoyed the experience. I can already hear you chirping me with a "you actually went to Phebe's to eat?" Yeah. I did. We did. This Phebe's Blackjack Burger is straight gas and at under $20 with a side of waffle fries whose only rival is Chick-Fil-A, it's a PLATE. It's a great burger, and I'm tired of pretending like it's not. I can't even lie though, I forgot to sub the regular fries for waffle fries this time and that hurt my soul. But it is what it is. Sometimes you have to take an L to refocus and get that tenacity back. Not everyone is Floyd Mayweather. It also gets pretty active when the sun goes down here, a fun place to come and watch a game or play the game. 21 year old me met a summer fling here back in the summer of 2017 when I was visiting NYC for a week. Great food, great staff, and great vibes. I've been here a few times and always a hit. There's a larger bar area and a smaller back bar area. The weekends can tend to get insanely crowded and there can be a line to get in. Pretty young crowd the later it gets. read more

Last night on our way to celebrate our friend Kimberly Nichole at New York cities iconic Bowery electric. We dined at Phebes. Great customer service even down to the bus boys. The entire staff at this Bowery location were awesome. The food arrived on time and the wait staff were all attentive. We had a few different items on the menu. The standout foods were the wings with dry rub and the grilled Brussels sprouts. You have to try the Brussels sprouts. They are amazing. The space was cozy and had setting throughout the reastaraunt. The side table by the window are excellent for date night. If your ever in the area drop in and get your self some of these Brussels sprouts. read more

Phebe's is a great spot if you're looking for a nice place to eat or to just have a drink at the bar. I ordered the steak salad as my main meal and the spinach & artichoke dip for an appetizer. Both of these meals were very delicious. The spinach and artichoke dip was very chunky and flavorful, just the way i like it. They also give a lot of chips as well, so it would be a good choice to order if you were with a group of people.  The steak on the salad was delicious and cooked perfectly to my liking; a nice medium rare. We also ordered a few cocktails and overall had a great night at Phebe's. The waitress was very kind and attentive to our party as well, which made the experience that much better. Had dinner and drinks with friends here last Friday. Didn't know much about it before hand, so no particular expectations. There was a decent crowd but just enough space between tables where it wasn't crowded. Loud but not too loud. Between the music and people the place was enjoyably lively. Tried the nachos which came with lots of sour cream, guacamole, jalapeños, and cheese (cheddar and maybe mozzarella). Surprisingly not soggy but wish they had used cheap American cheese like when I was a kid. More flavor and texture when it cools. Also had the Buffalo wings which were really good. Crispy and good flavor. Liked the texture on the fish, perfectly crispy and flakey white fish, no salt or seasoning which was surprisingly enjoyable without. Also had a good cheeseburger with fresh pickles eventhough o usually don't like pickles. Mix in a few good cocktails Vegan Whiskey Sour and Lavender Collins and had a good time. Walked in at 9.30pm on a Sunday and the kitchen was still open. It's open later than most places in this area . Didn't have drinks, just ordered food . The Salmon with 2 sides ( I got mashed potatoes and kale . ) The Salmon was fried I think because it was a bit crispy on the outside but nice and moist on the inside. The mashed potatoes taste homemade. There was a little side container of hot/sweet pepper jelly for the fish. I liked that , it was a nice touch. I'd skip the kale next time and get broccoli or something else. Food was tasty and staff is friendly. This place is big and they've been here a long time. Probably crowded on Friday or Saturday. My partner and I came here for a casual dinner. The place is larger than it looks from the outside. The front portion that juts out into the sidewalk is very cutely decorated with brick walls and 2 and 4 seat booths. The back, and larger space is more like a bar area. I had the steak salad which was reasonably priced, largely portioned and delicious. The steak was cooked medium rare, as I requested. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Had some very good, if not a bit overpriced burgers that came with really tasty fries. The service was attentive which was nice. But my problem was despite leaving a cash tip and CLEARLY marking the receipt that a cash tip was left, my card was charged $30 for a tip on a $45 bill. I'm nice but not 66% tip nice. PROS: This bar was absolutely lit. Very spacious, many types of drinks (more than average bar), multiple rooms. Prices were just right for the location on liquor and the bus man was rushing to make sure everything was clean. CONS: The staff wasn't friendly to us and there was a huge line that didn't move outside. They also charge for tap water which is the first time I ever heard of such a thing (according to a older blonde bartender lady) OVERALL: I would go back here, of course I would stay away from the water. Lovely spot for watching a game with high quality food. We stopped in on NYE to watch UC lose a game haha but the nachos helped make up for it. The place is huge with lots of areas for different groups and TVs for watching the game. However it's much cleaner and better food than what might typically be expected of a sports bar type place. The nachos were phenomenal and could easily be split between a group or as a meal for 2 people. I appreciate how fully loaded they were and I didn't even add any meat. My BF had the cheeseburger and it looked and smelled amazing and I wish I had taken a bite. He would recommend it! On first glance I wasn't sure what to expect from Phebe's. After walking in, this place is just your average sports bar. There is kind of a divey vibe coming through as well. There were a bunch of tv's so if you are coming to watch a game it could be a good spot. There are plenty of seats so you shouldnt have a problem getting a seat. Now with the new rule of having to order food with a drink I went with the chicken tenders. Picture chicken tenders in your head and that is what these tasted like. For drinks, we went with the merlot even though it is probably more of a beer place. This was a forgettable experience. It was kind of dingy in there and unless you are going to watch a game I'm not sure I would go. Maybe coming for happy hour could be good too. 3 stars is about right. read more

Decent music selection with room for dancing, but the drinks are definitely the worst I've ever had at a bar. Got two vodka cranberry's for $18, which is decent price for the city but these cups were TINY and filled with ice. Pretty sure the entire drink was just cranberry juice with a SPLASH of vodka. I'm not asking for two shots of vodka in one drink but this was unacceptable. If you're coming to this place, stick to beers that way they cant just give you some juice with ice. This place is known as an "intern" bar in the summer and should honestly stay that way. read more

Constructive criticism: I want to like this place. I went in for Saturday brunch, by myself, and the very spacious dining room was almost empty (not a good sign). I was seated promptly by a very pleasant hostess. I was seated in an out of the way place that was hidden. A big pet peeve of mine is very slow service when a server has very few tables. I don't know why this happens frequently, but it does. I had to wait so long for a server I had to get up and go to the bar to ask for service. To make matters worse, even though the place was empty, but when another solo customer came in, they seated him right next to me. This is probably because they didn't want to give us booths or four tops, but the place was empty and it was past noon so the brunch rush was over. No reason not to give us space. Then the other guy's cell kept going off and he spoke loudly, when all I wanted was some peace. And the staff should have known this would happen because he was clearly a regular (they even knew his name). I had the eggs Benedict which had a weird taste. I like for local businesses to succeed, so I hope they will take this review in the spirit intended and make some changes. read more
