Tried this place for the first time, and the service was excellent! The food, however, was a different story. The roti was crisp and fluffy, but the curry was diluted and overly thickened with so much cornstarch that you could actually see bits of starch in it. The Hainan chicken was tender, but the soy sauce and chili sauce didn't have the authentic Singapore or Malaysia flavors I was hoping for. The rice that came with the chicken also lacked the rich, fragrant chicken flavor you would expect from Hainan chicken rice. The ginger sauce, though, was very good. The dish that saved the day was the char kway teow. It had just the right amount of char, the rice noodles were smooth, and the flavor was on point. It would have been even better if the sambal had been stir-fried together with the noodles instead of being served on the side.
tried this place for houston restaurant week! $39 for three courses and we enjoyed everything for the apps, the kerabu prawns were my favorite. the sweet and tangy mango papaya slaw was balanced out really nicely by the crunchy peanuts, which cut through some of the sweetness. the roti was flaky and nicely done, but nothing particularly memorable for the entrees, the beef rendang and malaysian chicken curry were similar in flavor profile, but i preferred the beef since the braising made it more tender whereas the chicken was pretty dry. i really really enjoyed the potatoes in both dishes! the chili prawns had some of the same sweet and tangy flavors as the kerabu prawns. the scrambled eggs were a great touch, adding a creamy, velvety element that mellowed out the dish. it felt like a more thoughtful take on the westernized asian sweet and sour stir fry. unfortunately, there was no spice at all, not even a hint of chili :( the cheesecake and tiramisu we chose for dessert were both yummy, although i wish they offered some malaysian sweets instead of more generic dessert options service was fantastic and attentive throughout the entire meal. that being said, while im glad i finally got to try phat eatery, the prices are a little steep for the portions. i also expected to be amazed considering their awards, but it was good at best, so i dont think id go out of my way to come back.
Amazing Malaysian food with a western twist! Everything here was so delicious, especially staples like the roti canai, chicken satay and sizzling fried tofu! Phat gets 5 stars for SAFAV: Service Ambiance Food Alcohol Value for Money
I wish I could give Phat Eatery a 10/10 because that's truly what they deserve. The food here is phenomenal and some of the most authentic Malaysian food I've had. Every time I come here, I'm reminded how special it is when a restaurant truly cares about quality and flavor. My absolute favorite dish is the pineapple fried rice with shrimp, it's packed with flavor and perfectly cooked every time. I also love the honey basil wings, which are seriously addictive. Another must-order for me is the roti with chicken curry. The roti is soft and flaky, and the curry is incredibly rich and comforting without being overly spicy, which I really appreciate. It's my fave!! The drinks are great, the prices are very reasonable, and everything on the menu feels thoughtfully prepared. It's honestly getting harder these days to find restaurants that consistently serve food with this much care and authenticity, but Phat Eatery absolutely delivers. I could probably eat here every day, that's how much I love their food. If you're in Houston "Katy" and love Malaysian cuisine (or just amazing food in general), this place is a must. Highly recommend.
We had a great experience from start to finish. The food was delicious, so many options, and they had a great lunch menu for Monday-Fridays. Last but not least, our waitress was so sweet and nice! We ordered the following: Roti Canai - The roti is soooo good! Thin and flakey, but still pillowy and soft. Served with a curry like sauce but light on the curry flavor, just very savory. The sauce wasn't curry like though.. it was kinda gloopy. Didn't love the gelatinous texture of the sauce, but the roti itself, fire. Char Kway Teow (lunch portion) - Lunch portion is perfect for one if this is all you're eating. Perfect for 2-3 if you have other dishes to share. It's basically a dry chow fun, except they add in sweet Chinese sausage. They had like 3 shrimps in this lunch dish too, so not stingy at all with the protein. I liked the smokiness but I do wish they had sriracha or a spice rack as I like my foods a little spicy. I didn't ask for it though, so it's possible they do have spicy condiments. Sizzling Beef (lunch portion) - Portion size same as above. This is a very savory dish, border line a little salty for me. The presentation is real cute. They bring out a hot cast iron plate, with red onions on it, and then they spoon the beef entree from a metal container onto the cast iron so that it starts to sizzle. A little extra for sure, but it adds to the ambiance so I appreciate that effort. The bell peppers and onions were so sweet and helped to balance the sauce. The beef was nice and tender! Beef Rendang - This dish is the main reason why I chose to visit. This is only on the main dinner menu and yes it's a bit pricey, but it's a large portion and the dish is cooked well. It's basically a dry curry stew, as the curry notes are fairly strong. This is typically cooked with coconut milk but the coconut notes were very mild. While I did call it a stew, its not saucy. The beef was nice and tender but a little dry on some piece, and the potatoes in the dish held their shape nicely. They left some fat on the beef (I get it, fat is flavor) but I personally don't like that squishy texture in my meat. This is a dish worth ordering, especially if you've never had it, as it's flavor profile is quite unique. Idk if a pot of rice comes automatically or if it's because we ordered the beef rendang which is a dinner dish or what. But everyone had a pot of rice on the table from the looks of it, so it may be safe to say it comes with all entrees. They give you a real hefty serving of rice too, which is appreciated cause my BF eats hella rice lol When we packed our food to go, the server asked if wanted to pack the rice and I let her know we actually finished it. She was kind enough to give me a whole to go box of rice as well. Sooooo sweet! I made sure we ate all our leftovers too! I'm from the Bay (California) and tbh Malaysian/Indonesian food is kinda hard to find and the places that do serve it are super far from me. I was so stoked to find such a nice restaurant that not only served some of my favorites but served them WELL. Would highly recommend a visit if you're in the area and wanting something different from your usual Asian eats.
Phat Eatery in Katy has become my go‑to spot, especially since it's so close to work. The food is consistently amazing, and the Hainanese chicken is my absolute favorite: perfectly tender, deboned, and served with three great sauces. They're especially generous with the ginger, which I love. The roti canai is always soft and comforting, perfect for dipping. Reliable, delicious, and super convenient, I can't ask for more!
A restaurant that's a James Beard finalist should blow me away and although Phat Eatery was good, it didn't necessarily wow me. The beef rendang was recommended online, but I wouldn't get it here. The meat was in large chunks and very tough, not ideal for a dish that's supposed to be cooking for hours until tender. The roti canai was standard and the chicken flat noodles was the best dish of the meal (could taste the wok hei as Cantonese people would say). The milk tea was similar to a HK milk tea. There were three open tables yet my party of two was told to wait and we waited for 20 minutes. Will try again in the future and choose different dishes.
I wanted to treat myself to a great weekend meal and stopped by Phat Eatery, which did not disappoint! It admittedly started off a bit oddly. I entered around 3pm on a Sunday and the hostess was reluctant to give me a table and insisted on the bar, despite my visibly seeing at least 3 tables open just from where I was standing. I'm understanding of smaller venues with limited tables, I mean I lived in NYC, but when you have a paying customer in front of you, there are open tables and a request for one, and it's not a peak time, I mean come on where's the hospitality! After they called the manager, I did get a table (the one in front of me never filled up either, not exactly a busy time). Luckily, the food did make up for it. My server was friendly too and made good recommendations, although sadly the Beef Rendang wasn't nearly ready to serve. I suppose I'd have to come back for dinner sometime. I got a Lychee Sunrise to start, which was fantastic. It was too early for me to start drinking alcohol, so this worked fine. The Roti Canai with chicken curry for dipping was tasty, with the former being super flaky and delicious. The chicken in the curry was boneless, but they could've done a better job removing the skin and tendons. The curry was on the sweeter side, which worked well as a dipping sauce. The Har Gau (soft shrimp dumplings) were made fresh and delicate. It came with mustard for dipping, which was new to me, but worked very well. Now I was getting a bit overwhelmed, as like in many Asian restaurants, food tends to come out as they're made rather than timed as courses, oop. My Sizzling Tofu entree came with a generous portion of rice, with an amazing garlicy brown sauce (has minced chicken & shrimp, but they do have a vegetarian version) poured table side for that sizzling action. It was so flavorful, lots of depth and very filling. I got mine a bit spicy, which has 5 levels of spice of your choosing. Like a lot of the trendier restaurants and shops here, they do use one of those digital payment systems like Toast which some super high suggested default tips. I thought it was a bit funny as you refill your own water with the bottle they give you, but my server was friendly and gave me a show, so a generous tip was well earned.
Really nice dining experience here at Phat Eatery. This was my first time having Malaysian food and how server was great at explaining the menu and giving recommendations. The Roti Canai with Curry Chicken Dip appetizer was amazing. Our absolute favorite of our dining experience. The Hainanese Chicken I was told is a signature dish here. It was good but I wasn't blown away by it and it wasn't bad enough to take a point away. The restaurant itself was very clean and is really cute and it has a very street vendor vibe. I definitely recommend.
This time, we ordered off their usual menu with some out of town friends. We ordered sizzing tofu, roti with two curries (beef was off menu), Hokkien noodles, beef rendang. I ordered a pandan colada for myself. I would get this drink again. It's amazing. Back to the food. This was all good for four people near closing time. Everything amazing. I would order this set again. The beef rendang does have a slight kick to it. No shrimps in this menu set because one of us has a shrimp allergy which they great accommodated for us. Tofu is a favorite! Roti was super stuff and tasty. Our server was very sweet and was actually the one who told us about the beef curry that was off menu to try with the roti. The place was clean and easy on the eyes. Parking is free and out front.
The chili prawn reminded me a lot of Singapore chili crab style sauce at Jumbo Seafood. Really well made. Roti is excellent - crispy hot and flaky. I would maybe eat it with the Beef Randang over the chicken curry they give. But all in all, excellent lunch experience.
Award winning restaurant for a good reasons. Service and atmosphere: Outstanding service from get go. Our server was polite, friendly and very knowledgeable about food on a menu. She helped us decide on our dishes selection by recommendations. The restaurant was clean, structured, very modern and comfortable. Open bar area in the middle is very nice. Food and drinks: Delicious and well thought through dishes. Traditional selections with fragrant ingredients and seasonings. All of that gave the food authenticity test. The portions were generous. Big selection of various beverages to choose from. Pricing: $$ - super worth it and we will be coming back to dine in here again.

I've been here twice, and I have to admit the first time I wasn't blown away. However, I wanted to give it a second chance. The first time, I had ordered the mango chicken - I felt that the mango wasn't very ripe, and the dish contained more mango than chicken. The sizzling black pepper beef was quite bland as well. The second time I went was much better, the CK Teow was well seasoned and the seafood fresh. The roti canai is also delicious and a must have. The staff was very attentive and quick to serve, and the interior is well decorated and lit. read more

So yummy! Was in Katy for a weekend and tried to grab a late dinner here on Friday night but the wait was about 45 min. Came back for lunch on Saturday around 12pm and was seated right away. The decor was reminiscent of a street market in Asia. Each table had a bottle of hand sanitizer which was appreciated. Started off with the Roti Canai: OMG so good! The Indian flag bread was puffy and VERY hot when it came out. Curry dip was super flavorful but not overwhelming. Flavor was so great that I even put some over top of the white rice. I could have just eaten multiple plates of this dish for lunch and would have been happy. Dish is so good that I burnt my fingers while tearing the bread but so worth it. My boyfriend got the Sizzling Beef Black Pepper dish. It comes out like a fajita plate; sizzling as the name would suggest. The beef slices were very tender and seasoned very well. I got the Hainanese Chicken: I have had Hainanese chicken numerous times growing up in the Bay Area and after moving out of state have searched for a place to satisfy that craving. This chicken was very good just not quite the same. The rice was indeed very fragrant but it wasn't the same as what I was used to (perhaps the Malay version vs the Chinese version I am used to?). Regardless, this is a great dish! The chicken is so soft, so silky, and the trio of sauces compliments the chicken amazingly. I got back to the hotel and finished the rest of the chicken dish LOL Also got the Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf: was so full by the time this dish came out but this is my favorite dim sum dish so had to get it. Flavor is just about the same as the traditional dim sum but I think it was missing the shitake mushroom and egg yolk flavors. I got the Malay Iced Milk Tea and that was also great! The condensed milk did not make it too sweet just added a touch of creaminess. Overall, I can see the hype of this place and it is totally worth a try. We had a lovely meal at Phat Eatery. They started off with the salt and pepper calamari, a dish I highly recommend. The calamari was crispy and the flavor was a perfect balance of spice. We then got the Beef Rendang and CK Teow stirred fried noodles. Everything was flavorful and delicious. The Beef Rendang meat was tender and the stirred-fried noodles were amazing. I am a big fan of flat noddles and this dish hit the mark. Recommend this place to anyone wanting to taste amazing Malaysian cuisine in Katy, TX. read more

We had the roti with curry dip for appetizer which was a great way to start the meal. Roti was so crispy, buttery and warm and the curry dip was a perfect savory and flavorful companion. I had the curry vegetable noodle soup for main which was SO good. Reminiscent of a bowl of ramen, but better!!! It tastes similar to the curry dip. The soup was definitely enough for 1 person. It was warm and flavorful and not too spicy. The soup came with thin and thick noodles, green veggies, mushroom, tomato and tofu. Really enjoyed this hearty and warm meal. read more

If you're in the Katy area, this is THE place to go for Malaysian food! Vibes are good and the food is yummy too. If you go on a weeknight, be expected to wait! Parking in that area is also really tough, but a spot will open up if you keep driving around. Must try dishes are the roti canai, hainese chicken, beef randang, and egg tofu. The curry laksa tasted a bit watered down compared to other curry laksas we've had elsewhere, so we wouldn't get that dish again. Overall, if I'm in the area, I'll come here to eat! read more
Came here for dinner for the first time with my friends since I was spending the day in Asian Katy Town. I didn't know what to expect since I have never had Malaysian food before, so this was my first experience - not only coming to this restaurant, but to trying Malaysian food. When you first enter, it feels like you're being teleported to the streets of Malaysia with the neon signs, where everything is just vibrant, bold, and bright. The atmosphere was festive and the aromas coming from the kitchen were definitely irresistible. When we were seated, I kind of just let my friends take the reigns and order everything since I've never been and they have already been plenty of times, so they knew what was really good. They ordered the roti with curry chicken dip for an appetizer and for the entrees they ordered the Hainanese chicken which came with 3 different kinds of sauces, beef rendang, and the sizzling tofu. All the dishes also came with fresh white rice and chicken rice (rice cooked in the chicken broth of the Hainanese chicken). Everything also came out relatively quick too, so I wasn't hungry for too long. The roti with chicken curry dip was very flavorful. The roti was probably the star of the dish for me though because it was so light, airy, and flakey. It was just beautifully made and was great for dipping into the curry and scooping up the chicken chunks. Definitely would order it again. Then the entrees came out. They pour this savory sauce over the tofu when they get to your table and you can just hear it sizzling as soon as the sauce hits the hot plate. It was just so flavorful and really blended well with the silky texture of the egg tofu. Definitely my favorite dish of the night. The Hainanese chicken and the beef rendang were really delicious as well. The beef rendang was so tender and just very well spiced (not in a spicy way). I definitely enjoyed eating it over a warm bed of rice. The Hainanese chicken was really good, especially when you dip it into the sweet chili sauce. I enjoy a bit of heat, so some sweet and spicy with the chicken meat was a perfect pairing. We didn't order any desserts, but by the end of the meal, we were all completely stuffed. All these dishes split amongst 3 people, family-style were more than enough and my friends ended up having to take home leftovers. You will come here hungry and leave completely full and happy! So thankful to my friends for recommending and bringing me here. I absolutely want to come back and try some of their other menu items. read more

Wow wow wow! Loved everything from start to finish at Phat Eatery from the ambiance to the service. Enter through the door and you're transported to the street food stalls in Malaysia with knowledgeable waiters guiding the way. We did the Feed Me which is a $48 6 course meal that is curated by your waiter based on dietary restrictions and taste preferences you share. Usually these menus never fill me up, but I was ROLLING out of this establishment. Every dish was an amazing taste experience that surprised you with every bite. Can't wait to go back... This place is FANTASTIC!!!! Clean, nice lighting, chic, friendly prompt service and GREAT FOOD!!! We were given three menus. A regular menu, drink menu AND a restaurant week menu! We totally lucked out as I hadn't even realized this place was partaking in restaurant week! Four courses for $35! Totally a steal! The Roti was phenomenal! The BEST CURRY I have had yet... and I eat a lot of curry LOL. Chicken satay was charred to perfection and the dessert pancake was something I had never had - OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! We were craving some Malaysian Food while driving around Katy, TX. This restaurant is located in the same strip mall as HMART in Katy Asian Town. We love the atmosphere and vibe of this restaurant. The staff was very friendly, fast and super attentive. We were surprisingly happy to see that they have an excellent lunch menu Monday - Friday from 11:00am - 2:30pm *WIN*. The food was very good, it's more fusion then authentic but that's not a bad thing. Roti Canai (3 Stars) is our favorite appetizer when dining at any Malaysian restaurant. The roti came out piping hot and flaky while the curry was very creamy and delicious. Curry Laksa (3 stars) was also good. It was creamy and had lots of chicken, shrimp and tofu with a nice coco-nutty flavor. The texture of the noodles were on point. We would definitely visit again when the cravings hit. Hainanese Chicken Rice (3.5 stars) was delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly, very tender, moist and juicy. The chicken rice was very flavorful as well. We like all 3 of the dipping sauces that came with the dish, especially the ginger garlic. We will definitely be back to try other dishes on their regular menu. Right from jump I felt the great vibes not to mention the incredible aroma of such unique flavors. I had no idea what was in store for me though and y'all, let me just say both the curry appetizer & Indian bread appetizer along with the basil ginger chicken was just mouth watering delicious. I wanted to drink the curry dip I ate 2 servings of the appetizer, no lies! Marvin also recommend I try it atop my jasmine rice and no words on how tasty that was literally cleaned all of my plates! The hot tea was everything too. But the people just set my experience over the top here. Marvin and truly everyone here I want to Double it to 10 stars because y'all made my experience just majorly wonderful. Their roti canai omg..... So good. I came upon this Malaysian restaurant in the mini Chinatown in katy and i really enjoyed it! I love this new strip of restaurants - so clean! Anyways, I had the malaysian chicken curry, roti canai, and malay hor fun. They were all pretty good especially the roti canai appetizer, which is literally just soft crepe-like bread and curry sauce for dipping. I'll probably order 3 of those next time.... Nice staff, cute interior, and fast service! read more
Stopped here for Sunday lunch and sampled several items: roti with curry dip, kangkung, kerabu prawns, their well-known beef and chicken dishes, and a couple other things. Everything was solid, although our server tried to dissuade us from ordering a couple things, offering his own personal preferences instead, which I didn't care for. read more
My family was a little leary but wr are all so happy we went. We left very satisfied and so full. Our waitress recommended the mee goreng. I am so happy i tried it. It was so flavorful and delicious. I like the peanuts and bean sprouts they add good crunch. We also got the roti canai which was amazing. My husband and daughter both ordered the sizzling beef. My daughter loved how it was presented as a hot platted with onions then the beef and peppers are poured into the platter and start sizzling. She was very impressed. I was also impressed that a waitress who wasn't our server checked on us and helped us a few times without being asked. I look forward to eating here again. read more
Came here for HRW 2023 on a Thursday night, and I have to say -I can see why the chef was a James Beard 2022 semi finalist. The HRW menu was simple, yet great. I was concerned that I would leave still a little hungry, but that was not the case - the ossobuco made sure of that. The service was great, but maybe a little understaffed. The ambiance was good in the main room (when you walk in), a little shit in the side room where we were seated. It is pretty small, tables are jammed in there, little room for movement, and super loud. We drove 45 minutes from Houston, and there were no regrets. read more
I had my Birthday lunch here a few days ago. It wa an excellent and safe experience here. Every table was spaced at least 6 feet apart and there was hand sanitizer at every table. Waiters were polite, friendly and the experience was great. Good food specials since it was their 2 year anniversary. I walked in and the first thing, and they served me was a. free sake bomb... So fun to get out and try something new. Here they have fabulous Malaysian food. Sizzling black pepper beef ...all their dishes were excellent, too! read more
This spot has the best beef rendang in Houston! I had the hainan chicken tonight, and this place still has not failed me. Very attentive staff, and friendly service. The decor is cool, kind of gives off "street food" vibes. Hehe read more
Phat Eatery hai lam gai fan is so yummy because *drum roll please* there's no bones!!! Usually this chicken rice dish always has bones and I'm ultra cautious making sure I don't choke on one so having it with pan Dan rice and eating it carefree made me so happy! read more
My bf and I visited Phat Eatery sometime last year and loved it. We ordered a couple noodle dishes and roti canai - everything was fantastic. We always said we'd come back, so we finally ordered take out in honor of their 2 year anniversary promos. For their anniversary special, they offered $2 roti canai and double the portion of beef rendang for $37. And if you order $50+, they'll throw in a dim sum sampler (you'll have to steam it yourself because it's frozen). My bf also ordered the malay hor fun, spice level 5. We placed the order online and did curbside pick-up. We ended up ordering about $60 worth of food but it was so worth it. Curbside pick up was quick and easy. The roti canai was buttery, chewy, but not too soft. It complimented so well with the curry. The malay hor fun was savory and flavorful. It was definitely spicy, but very tasty. The beef rendang was good, but I don't know if it's the best. I tasted hints of lemongrass and ginger, which I love. The beef was quite tender, and as I kept eating it, it tasted better. Honestly, they were really generous with the portions. My bf and I couldn't finish our entrees because we ordered our own rotis which is a lot for one person considering we always share one order. You can't beat $2 roti canai! Overall, everything was satisfying. Highly recommend Phat Eatery if you're in the Katy area. read more

If you're looking for flavorful and delicious Malaysian food, Phat Eatery is a must try! My friends and I visited for dinner and ordered several plates to share. We ordered the sizzling Tofu, Roti Canai, and Hainanese Chicken, and after asking our waitress for a suggestion on our final dish, added the Char Kway Teow. Roti Canai: This was the perfect appetizer to start off our meal. It was flaky and crispy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside, and paired really well with the rich coconut curry provided to dip it in. Sizzling Egg Tofu: I loved the custard like texture of the tofu, and could literally eat it all day. The tofu on its own is light and airy, but the sauce poured on top of it table side gives it a good depth of flavor without being too heavy. Hainanese Chicken: The chicken was cooked perfectly, and was moist and tender. Although the chicken sits on some sauce on the plate, the sauce on the plate was not overbearing and left room for you to add additional flavor by dipping it into one of the three sauces provided (ginger garlic, chili, and sesame soy) on the side. The dish came with a pot of chicken rice, and my friend liked it so much that he ended up taking the leftover rice home to go. Char Kway Teow: A solid recommendation from our waitress. The flat rice noodles came with a good amount of seafood, and the Chinese sausage used added good saltiness to the dish. Normally the dish comes with siracha in it, but we requested to omit it since my friend and I don't enjoy spicy food. However, it still had good flavor, and a peppery kick to it. Overall, I really enjoyed everything that was ordered, and thought that all of the food was cooked and seasoned well. Nothing was overcooked, bland, or overseasoned, and the staff were attentive and polite throughout our entire meal, so it's a 5/5 for me. I will definitely be back! read more
I had heard so many good things about this restaurant so was excited to try it. It did not disappoint! We started with the roti canai. It was warm and crispy and the curry dipping sauce was amazing. The beef rendang was so incredibly tender and flavorful. Despite all of the rave reviews about the Hainanese chicken, this was my least favorite dish. The flavor of sesame was very strong and the dipping sauces were not the best. The chicken lacked flavor even though it was drenched in soy and sesame sauce. I wouldn't order that dish again but will definitely come back to try some other dishes. The service was also great. read more

How do I start? Food is phenomenal to say the least. I'm obsessed with their satay skewers and that peanut sauce. The beef rendang is exactly how I envisioned it when they described it to me. The taste unparalleled and so tender. Their curries were above average but the rendang is what sold me. read more

Came in for lunch on a Tuesday and the service was quick and the food came out hot and fresh! My favorites were the sizzling tofu, snow pea leaves, and roti canai. The tofu was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The sauce on top was incredibly flavorful and went well with the plain rice that came with it. Snow pea leaves are hard to get wrong and these did not disappoint. The roti was nice and crispy and the curry was delicious. The laksa was also very good and flavorful, it also comes with two types of noodles which i enjoyed. The mee goreng and malay hor fun were alright at best and tasted very one note to me. Came here for the second time tonight and we were pleased as always. Sizzling black pepper beef is a fun presentation and yummy! The rice dish I got was unique and a cool thing to try - can't remember the name though. Pork and chive dumplings were juicy with a fun dipping sauce, and the roti is a can't miss! Fun drinks and a good mock tail menu as well which is a good feature. Not too busy on a Thursday night and service was fast and friendly! A bit pricey but overall a great experience! read more
I stopped by Phat Eatery, a James Beard nominated Malaysian joint in Katy. The stylish bar and restaurant is staffed with the utmost professionals. My server was knowledgeable and eager to offer suggestions. I had the signature appetizer, Roti Canai. The flaky bread was paired with a curry dipping sauce. A delicious way to start my meal. I continued with another signature dish, beef rendang. The flavorful dish came in a choice of spice-level. I went for 3 out of 5 and it was perfect for my palette. The dish came with potatoes that had soaked up the delicious curry! The beef was tender and the accompanying rice was fluffy. I haven't much experience with Malaysian cuisine, but my next trip to Houston won't be complete without a trip to Phat Eatery. read more

Whew chileeee, where do I begin? Phat Eatery stole my heart from the first time I ate here and now I have a new favorite restaurant! The dim sum is so tasty and so is the roti canai! The showstopper was the mango chicken which had fresh mango slices and is served in an actual mango! This is a great place to stop for a casual lunch or dinner in Katy. The waiter was very patient while giving me food recommendations and my food came out nice and hot and in a timely manner. 10/10 would recommend trying this delicious food from Phat Eatery! read more

I can not say enough good things about Phat Eatery! It absolutely blew me away! In my head I had always assumed Phat Eatery would be a low-key hole-in-the-wall spot given the praises of authenticity I've heard from older Asian family and friends, but I had to check my internalized stereotypes at the door when I walked in. It's decked out to look and feel like you're eating amongst the night market stalls in Asia with trendy neon signs everywhere - it's so cool and unlike any other restaurant in Houston I've been to. I went with my parents, who had the same initial assumption as me and were immediately skeptical of the authenticity of the food when they saw the inside (fellow Asian Americans will get it, lol). Luckily, all our expectations were immediately exceeded with how insanely good the food was. We tried the roti canai, beef skewers, beef rendang, laksa, and chili prawns. EVERYTHING was incredible. My personal favorites were the roti canai and beef rendang - I will be getting these every single time I come back, they are must-haves! The curry is some of the best I've ever tried - it's a crazy flavor bomb, and the roti is perfectly flaky and buttery to sop up all the sauce. The beef in the beef rendang was falling apart with every forkful, and the spices and flavor were off the charts. Everyone was completely blown away by the authentic and decadent dishes, and the fun environment and perfect service were the cherry on top. This place absolutely deserves all the hype! read more

Phat Eatery is one of the best places to eat in Katy Asian Town. I was sad to hear on my last visit that Yelo, the place next door, is permanently closed due to Phat expanding. Yelo is owned by the same people as Phat. Either way, the food is always good at Phat as well as the drinks. Highly recommend the roti bread with curry for dipping. It is listed as a appetizer/bites but is enough food for a whole meal. read more
