I used to love going to PetSmart with my boys (dogs) and being able to shop together. I love their food selections and its the only place I will get my pet products from. Now I dread going in there though. The customer service people are in my face asking if I want to get my dog groomed or trained or whatever other services they want to put in my face and they make it hard to even get past the front door! Most of the time I do not want to spend a lot of time in there so when this occurs I am really out of time by the time I even leave the front door! I am a dog trainer and my friend is a groomer I do not need services, I just need my dog's kibble! read more

Took my year old dog for grooming here as I have since she was born. She's always had a problem with her feet being touched, so it's hard for me to cut her nails myself. Once we took her in, we watched her getting her nails done and was obviously gonna be uncomfortable the entire time, and had no problem with the way the workers handled her. I could tell the female worker was annoyed with my dog and once they were done she threw her hands in the air and mouthed something. As we walked in to get my dog, she was giving us dirty looks and threw her stuff down before leaving the room and continually just gave us a dirty look. I understand if you're having a bad day but don't give the owner a hard time for my pet having issues with her feet being touched. That's your job and what we come to you for. I actually had the decency to call and postpone my appointment to groom my pet, but then when i showed up (on the day it got postponed to) the lady that works there said that she can't groom my pet anymore. Umm was it too hard to pick up the phone and call prior to the appointment to tell me that? I had to gather all the strength i could with a FEVER just so i wouldn't have to postpone the grooming apt again only to be refused service cuz my pet might hurt the groomer in the process?? absolute ridiculousness. XXX-XXX-XXXX... apparently it's really hard to dial 10 numbers. Have some courtesy next time! That was such a waste of time, gas, and energy. Never again petsmart. read more

This PetSmart is located in Tempe Market Place, which is always busy and crowded, however it is at the end of the mall next to the entrance closest to the 101. Due to it's location you can usually avoid the traffic associated with everything else. The location is clean and well stocked with items at a reasonable price. I haven't had the opportunity to use any of their additional services so I can't rate them, but all in all in terms of a shopping experience I've had no issues. read more

I've been in this branch several times in the last few days. Each time, their service came with a smile. They don't have some of the healthier brands of food to choose from. But I found some really good deals on cat toys. They facility was clean and uncluttered. Very easy to shop and look around in. I didn't feel pressured by the staff. But then again, I didn't have my companion with me. They were friendly, but left me alone, which is just the way I like it. read more

I appreciate their professional opinion, but they can express it in a less, judgmental way and not in the checkout line with other customers. I like this Petsmart location because it is really new and hardly ever busy. Everyone is very nice and for the most part pretty knowledgeable. Petsmart isn't always the cheapest place but with cats and a dog it's more convenient to pay a few bucks more and get everything in one trip. read more

Petsmart grooming zero stars if I could! My puppy went to get her first hair cut, was there for two hours, and then I get a call from them to say her hair was cut HALF WAY because they couldn't do it? She weighs under ten pounds and I take her everywhere with me so I know she's not difficult. They shaved parts of her and left parts of her full of hair including her eyes still being covered. 2 hours and nothing done other than the razor to a few spots leaving her looking ridiculous. Not to mention my puppy was crying when I get her nearly traumatized the whole way home from her experience here. Puppies are supposed to have a good experience, I didn't even feel the love to the dogs from the groomers when I walked into the salon from the start. They need better professionals grooming these pups, took her to another place and they fixed her cut just fine. A waste of time and horrible service at petsmart grooming. Awesome employees, they carry the Oxbow brand if you have guinea pigs. This is an excellent brand of food and hay that they also carry in veterinarians offices. I went all over to specialty stores looking for oat hay, dealing with cliquey stores that had no idea what I was talking about. I come to PetSmart and they have it. I needed this specifically for a sick piggy that needed low calcium fiber. read more

Within the past two weeks, my boyfriend and I have been to this Petsmart nearly every day and have interacted with almost all of the employees (as we have been in at all times of the day). Honestly, we didn't go into Petsmart with particularly high hopes. To be clear, the lack of expectations is not a reflection on this store or on Petsmart as a general whole, but Petsmart isn't a place that I go looking to be pampered. That being said, I have to give a shout out to this store's group of employees (especially the two girls in the fish department) who have been overwhelmingly helpful on each of our visits. The two fish tank specialists have started to recognize us, and always greet us by saying "You're back!" Here is a list of other things that have pleasantly surprised me about this Petsmart (and you know how I love lists): 1. These Petsmart employees always make themselves available. Unlike other pet stores, where the majority of your time is spent milling around looking for someone to help you, in this Petsmart enough employees work each shift so that if you need attention, you will get it. 2. This particular Petsmart is very, very clean. I have yet to see a mess of any sort. They also have a nice cleaning regiment for their fish tanks, which always look nice anyway. 3. When we decided to invest in a 10 gallon tank starter kit, I misplaced the original receipt. I was able to go back into the store, and because i had used my Petsmart Perks card (or whatever they call it), the store manager was able to print out a duplicate receipt, even though the transaction was from three to four days prior. Thumbs up! 4. We bought two african dwarf frogs and a ghost shrimp from Petsmart, who are happy and healthy since we brought them home and set up the tank. 5. The prices here on MOST of the items we were looking for were better than the competition. Overall, I have been very, very pleased with the selection at Petsmart, and will be returning today for a few more things. I'm rating 4 out of 5 stars because some of the items can be found cheaper at Petco (which is the same distance from my home as Petsmart) and that the "pet guarantee" for fish is only 14 days at Petsmart. It is a whopping 30 days at Petco. Please note, that both of these "gripes" have nothing to do with the employees, who are a delight. read more

I would have given petsmart 5 stars if it wasn't for the last few nightmare visits. Ever since I have had to get prescription food for my cat, shopping there has truly enlightened me about how terribly trained their staff is. The first time I brought in my Rx (from my Scottsdale vet), I was able to purchase the food without trouble. The cashier told me "great, this Rx is on your file now, you no longer need to bring it in." That was their first mistake.... total lie. The poor cashier had no idea, but she set me up for failure. Naturally, I casually misplaced the Rx over time since it was no longer a necessity in my mind. The second time I went to go buy his food there, the cashier refused the sale because I did not have his prescription. When I told her that I thought it was on file under my name, she told me that "they don't do that here." I couldn't believe it! I was furious and drove all the way to my vet's office 30 minutes away to get the food there since my poor kitty at home was all out. The third time, I had a new Rx and made sure to bring it. I bought the food but not without another cashier that had to call over a manager because she couldn't figure it out herself. Unfortunately, I misplaced that tiny piece of paper again. So the fourth time, I called ahead. I talked to someone to ask how their system works and what I need to do to be able to regularly buy his Rx food at their store. It was a very confusing conversation... the clerk changed his story several times: first saying that my cat needs to be seen by their vet, then telling me that if I had an outside Rx that I would need to bring it every time, then finally saying that if I had purchased my Rx food there before under my phone number that it should work for future purchases. Needless to say, I didn't trust him and asked for the fax number so that I can have my vet send over the prescription. I asked if that would work, and he told me that I would have to buy the food on the same day because they would throw it away after, as they could not keep it on file (WHAAT???). Whatever... I had my vet fax over the prescription and headed to Petsmart later that night. The cashier, like usual, needs to call a manager over because she has no idea that they even had a fax machine. The manager then tells me that they never received a fax. After talking to him for several minutes, he tells me that maybe the fax was sent to their on-site vet clinic which closes before the store does. He also told me that I should have gotten a "medicard" of some sort from them that allows me to buy the food anytime without my Rx (neither of the two times I showed up with my Rx did anyone mention this). I could go on and on about how furious and frustrated I was (and still am) but all I will say is their employees REALLY need to be more informed about how their system works, if they even really have a system. I gave my cat some good ol' tuna that night. I still give them 2 stars because I've always loved their toy selection and friendly floor personnel. However, I will never shop there again. read more

We have our pug in classes here and got his shots and fixed. I was apprehensive at first. But the price was so much cheaper. We have a monthly plan for neuter and shots which really helped financials. What I didn't expect to really love both the technician and doctor. Very patient with us and the pug. As a first time dog owner I had a ton of questions. They have been extremely sweet. For some reason our dog feel in love with the front desk girl and he runs back to see if she's working every time we bring him to puppy school. The trainer is the best she is really patient and a great communicator. This is my first dog and I'm very ignorant on these things she taught me so much. Our fur baby is a pug and they like to do what they want when they want she has really helped him become a good dog. When he got fixed he had to miss a class and she schedule a private make up session for him to catch up. I'm not sure if she had to do that but some how I think she was going above and beyond what was required. Worst experience ever! I bring my dog to groom. After the grooming, there are bugs in my dog's skin! What the hell is going on! And I bring my dog to pets mart to see the doctor! The doctor told me the grooming is not clean enough, and it is common, I don't need to worry about!!! Three days later, there are more and more bugs in my dog's body! The worst experience ever! THESE PEOPLE MADE MY RAT VERY SICK I had purchased a rat from the store, and after almost two weeks of playing with her and bonding with her, I noticed it had a respiratory infection and took it back to the pet care department in the store to have them treat it. I had to keep calling them to check on her, as they NEVER ONCE contacted me about her condition after many promises to do so. After nearly two months of treatment and being led around and brought to believe that I'd get her back in a few days every few days, I finally got her back. The cage we had lent to them to keep her in was in the worst condition I have ever seen. There was built up poop and urine all on the bottom from what looks like two months of neglect. It had bits of urine soaked paper towels completely stuck to the bottom; I had to run the cage under hot water to even scrape them off. When I had first taken her in, it was very clear that my boyfriend and I were very concerned about our rat and wanted to know how they would take care of her. They told us that they cleaned their cages every day and fed them steady diets along with their medication. THEY LIED ABOUT THEIR INVOLVEMENT. My rat is still very lethargic, very weak, and she's STILL SNEEZING. It was no fucking wonder her condition was not getting any better. While they offer free care, it's obviously free for a reason. Do not go to their care department. They make your pets worse. You guys should be fucking ashamed of yourselves, and I hope another business runs you guys out very soon. I will NEVER be back to a Petsmart location, and will do all I can to ensure that everyone I know knows not to entrust their precious animals into your hands. read more

If you buy fish from this store quarantine them for longer than you normally would. Several times I have bought fish from here that were disease ridden and did not survive very long. Granted they did honor their policy and give a full refund but it was just a plain hassle and not worth anyone's time. I won't be coming back here for fish anytime soon. read more

He started talking to he while she had a customer. Ana was the cashiers name. So I proceeded to get what I needed, when to check out when she (Ana) was still speaking to the man. She did did not greet anyone, asked them if they found everything... NOTHING. I could tell him my rewards card went through just nothing was said. When I ask to use credit she did under the breath comment. At the end she said you have a coupon.. With my response "You finally acknowledged me!!" This place has the friendliest staff i have ever worked with. They are also very understanding and very flexible with scheduling and truly care about their employees. They will work you very hard, and sometimes their distribution centers send them way too much of a particular product, which causes frustration because overstock is not alloud to be in the backroom. The other frustrating part is getting a lot of new product that does not have a home, which causes you to try and find room on the overstocked steel above. You will almost always be working 9 hours as a stocker instead of the 8 they schedule you for. I still think it was a great place to work overall, i just wish management had more say on what was coming into the store. read more

Do not recommend. I've been taking my 6 year old dog here since she was a puppy, had all of her shots taken care of here so it would be easier for grooming. Vet connected to her grooming salon? Easy peasy. Good to go for 6 years until we got a new puppy. Took our 6 year old dog in with new puppy for check up, she all of a sudden is behind in shots, but she's been coming here for 6 years? Ok, got her caught up and puppy is on track, next shot for new puppy set up while at the store for the next Monday. Bring puppy in and all of a sudden 6 year old dogs needs more shots next week to get caught up again? They are shot happy and definitely don't feel like they care about our dogs. They are all about the $120 shots per visit so keep them coming! Grooming salon shaves our 6 yr old every time, can't complain because she's cleaned up but she comes home afraid to be touched for days and we watched one of the grooming salon employees put a dog onto the table by pulling this small dog by the leash and placing it on the table, without touching the dog. Hoped they wouldn't treat our precious pups like that but definitely finding a small not chain vet and groomer for our babies from now on. read more

Shane the manager needs to learn what customer service is! I am a loyal PetSmart person when it comes to their vets at Bansfield, I mean they saved my dogs life. For that I am grateful. This review is more in response to a manager and how I was just treated at this location. As a regular, I know the faces that work at this location. Most of them know me as well (hard to not notice a biker in full leathers bringing in a teacup yorkie...) and everyone knows my dog Princess. Today however, I was told that they would not accept pre payment for grooming services because "they don't know what condition my dog is in..." I call pure BS because they SAW my dog on Sunday when I brought her in, they KNOW my dog better than they know me, and they could have easily given me a price! But instead the manager expected me to hop on my motorcycle with my 4 year old son in 35 degree weather and bring my dog in to get an idea of what the cost would be and then added that I could not prepay as a matter of convenience. I called Trim Time grooming and was AMAZED with their customer service. I got an appointment within a days time and immediately canceled my PetSmart grooming. I love the people at this location but Shane the manager needs to be demoted and reeducated in customer service. His indifference has just cost this company a long time customer! read more

Offering curbside pickup unless its 90 degrees. My wife went there this morning well before because we knew of the stipulation. The girl on the phone was incredibly rude then said my wife had to meet her at the door. This negates the whole idea of a heat restriction or calling it curbside. My who works for another banfield had to have a friend from this location bring the dogs from the car inside for her because our crying daughter in the car. The girl then told her she needed to come back to sign papers. My wife drove back and parked in the first parking spot, the girl from stood in the doorway with a clipboard and watched as my wife grabbed our screaming 2 month old from the car and walked up to sign the form. Absolute despicable customer service. We have many friends who have gone there for years including ourselves. We as well as those we know will no longer support such a poorly run establishment. read more

Do Not Get Your Dog Groomed There! Took my dog in to get a bath & his nails trimmed. Told them twice NOT TO PUT HIM IN THE DRYING BOX., told them once when I made the appointment, in the phone earlier that day and once again when I dropped my dog off., it was even noted on the paperwork I signed not to put him in the box. After about 45 minutes, I get a call that my dog is bleeding because he was trying so hard to get out if the box that blood was coming from his nose. They are lucky my husband is a calm person. The teenage girls who "run" the grooming have absolutely no control what-so-ever. It's total anarchy. When we were checking in our dog., it was like a Twilight Zone episode. One girl who appeared to be off the clock was just hanging out using the computer, the girl who was helping us seemed so nervous she had no idea what she was doing. Then another guy brings his dog into the lobby area & completely takes over. Even though we were clearly first he literally pushed the door open and scooted his dog inside the grooming area., the girls didn't say a thing to him. I will never ever bring my dog in, or shop at your stores and I will tell everyone I know to also avoid your stores. read more

Horrible experience!!! According to Pet smart "At Pet Smart, we pride ourselves on doing the right thing, even when it's hard. This means that we take responsibility and act with integrity"(Petsmart.com). Also in their web page it says "No hassle return policy" another big lie. I came into the store with a return that was in its original package unopened. I was going to return it because I got the wrong size. The manager said that we had not purchased this item there. Yet we had a receipt in our hands with the proof that in fact we had purchased it there. She denied us the return and threaten to call the cops on us when I told her that in the back of the receipt it said she had return the item according to store policy. I had a horrible experience never going back !!! The manager's name is BOBBIE horrible human being and horrible attitude. The worst part of the situation is that I couldn't file an official complaint as she was the manager on duty. From now on I am shopping at PET CO. read more

I probably will never go back to petsmart again. Especially the grooming department. I used to take my dog there about every 8 weeks and the last two times have been horrible. I dropped her off for her 8am appt and was told she'd be ready between 12-2. I was already out around noon so I decided to stop by to see if she was finishing up. My dog was no where to be seen on the grooming table and the lady at the desk was sleeping. After I woke her up I asked where my dog was and she said in the kennel. I say okay... Well is she done? And her response was 'no we haven't started yet' ummmmmm ok that is extremely unacceptable and very upsetting knowing my poor little dog has been sitting in a kennel for 4 hours. She didn't apologize and just said she'll be done soon. Today I walked in with her because she needed the fur on her paw shaved because she stepped in gum. The groomer said she couldn't do it because the gum was to close to her pad and I need to let it grow out a little bit. Umm okay well obviously I can't do that since so much crap with get stuck in it!!! These people are very unprofessional and they've obviously done something to my dog because I have to drag her in the door. Any other groomer I've taken her to she happily walks in and is excited. I used to love this Petsmart. My older dog has gone through multiple trainings there, been groomed multiple times, and enjoyed going to the store in general. We recently adopted a new dog, who had been to the store for "fun" a couple times. When he had some urinary issues that I suspected to be a UTI, we took him in to the Banfield at this location. The initial appointment was fine, the staff were friendly and it went pretty quickly. They called us a few days later and left a voicemail, saying they had the test results and to please call them back to get them. We called back the next day (the message was left at night), and were promptly told by a rude employee that we couldn't be given the test results on the phone because the vet we saw wouldn't be there until Saturday (this was a Tuesday). They said we could see another vet, but that we would have to wait for those test results to come back, too. We were told repeatedly and rudely that we wouldn't be able to get the test results for our sick dog until five days later. I asked to speak with the nurse that saw us, or another vet and was denied BOTH until I was obviously upset and asked multiple times. The nurse was just as unfriendly, and told me that she "wasn't medically trained" and couldn't read me the results. I asked if they had the results in front of them, and could they please just read them to me, and was told no. After about 10 minutes of this, they said they would try to get another vet to read the results to me, but they couldn't guarantee it. Later that day, they called back and said the test was inconclusive, and we would need to do another $400 test to get actual results. The vet we worked with called me again a couple days later, told me the same thing, and then said "I'm sorry you feel this was frustrating" when I let her know of the other issues we had with other staff. We will not be going back here, ever, for any services of any kind. This location's Banfield staff do not care about the animals they serve, they only care about the money you pay them to do so. read more

I came in to have my dog checked out for an injury on a Sunday. I was told that the doctors were busy in surgery and that I would have to wait a long time for a walk in. I was told to come back early afternoon for a walk in appointment. I called before going to ask about wait time, and was told that there were no walk ins and that the doctor could not see my dog today. My pet is in pain and I'm having a difficult time finding an open vet that accepts walk ins. read more

I spoke with the manager of Petsmart (on Val Vista & Guadalupe) this morning. And I slammed the phone down in his ear!!! He actually had the nerve to tell me that I was the one who must've entered the $10 contribution!!!!! I have never been so furious in my life.... I inserted my credit card in the keypad slot. The cashier asked me if I wanted to donate and I said "No, thank you." I was busy looking down and doing something in my purse. When I looked up a moment later, the keypad displayed my $32.62 total and had a line for me to sign on. I didn't see any other screens or push any buttons! I do remember the cashier stepping closer toward me at one point, but that's it. I was concentrating on my purse. In that minute, or minute and a half, HE must've pushed some buttons on the keypad, but I can't swear to it. All I know is that it wasn't ME. I immediately questioned the total amount before I even signed, and asked if the register had given me the sale price on the kitty litter and deducted my coupon, etc. The total, including my coupon, SHOULD have come to just $21 plus tax! The cashier just shrugged his shoulders when I asked about the big difference! If I HAD signed up for a donation, why would I question the total price just a minute later? And why would I come right back in the store after checking the receipt closer and ask to talk to him? Why did I find someone else to give me a refund when the cashier brushed me off? Plus when I got home, why did I go on-line and file a complaint? I'm not senile! I just don't like to be taken advantage of. Like my mother used to say, "One lies, and the other one swears to it...." I'd like to see us take a lie detector test. Then we'd know which one of us is telling the truth! I had nothing to lose. I got my $10 back. But the cashier's job was on the line. It is illegal to make an unauthorized charge to someone's credit card! That is consumer fraud! If this is the way Petsmart treats it's customers, then I'll be shopping elsewhere from now on. I feel like a new mom who hasn't slept in days! And when I came into this location with questions regarding bark correction therapy, Miriam answered all of my questions and gave me alternatives. She was patient and gave me tips, advice, and rationales for his excessive barking. I came in wanting to just grab an e-collar but instead walked out with an aroma collar which was pretty effective. Didn't work miracles, but definitely minimized the excessive energy. read more
