A few months ago, I had an awful experience with a particular store employee. I just let it go at the time, but after I saw that other people here had issues with this same employee, I just had to put in my review as well.
I received an e-mail blast containing a sale on cat trees. There was a particular cat tree on sale for $24.99, which was a pretty good deal, I thought.
I went to the Monrovia branch and found the cat tree and brought it to the front. It scanned up as $39.99. I told the employee, Tere (Teri?), that I got an e-mail saying it was on sale, and it should be $24.99. In a condescending tone, she said, "Well, it isn't showing up as on sale here, so it's not on sale." I told her that I got an e-mail for it, that it should be on sale, but maybe I picked up the wrong item. She said there weren't any sales on any cat trees and said the sale was probably only for online orders if I got the ad in an e-mail. I didn't recall that the ad said it was online only, so I told her I would go double check the aisles just to be sure.
I went to the cat tree aisles and started to look when Tere showed up again and kept repeating that the register was right, and all the prices should be right. I pulled up the ad on my phone and showed it to her. She didn't look at it, and kept insisting that if it was online, that it should be online only. I told her that it actually wasn't online only - I pointed at where it said in store only. She finally pulled out her glasses and looked at the ad I was holding up to her. As she read it, she complained that she didn't like how everything was online now, that she didn't keep up with those things (online). After reading the ad, she said, "Well, this isn't the right item then." I pointed to the item and the name. It was the same brand, type, shape, and color. The online ad didn't have the item number available though, which I pointed out and asked if there was a way to look up the item number so I could locate the item. She just kept saying it was online only, and that's why I couldn't find any information on it. I looked again at the ad. There was no option to buy it online, just the text saying in store only. I finally saw the small print that said select stores, though. I pointed that out to her, and I asked her what it meant by select stores only. I asked if it meant that only certain stores had the sale, or if only certain stores had the item in stock. She said, "NO, it means it is online ONLY," in an aggravated tone.
Finally I gave up and asked her if it was possible for her to look up this item and see if it was on sale in other stores, and she refused, saying that if it wasn't on sale at this store, then it wouldn't be on sale at any other store. She kept telling me to go online and buy it. Again I showed the item to her on my phone and said there was no option to buy it online. I even asked her if she could order it for me if she knew how. She just stood there and glared at me. I realized I was getting nowhere with this lady, so I finally told her, "All right, I'll go to the Pasadena PetSmart since you won't help me." And she looked upset and said, "Well, did you want me to call the manager then?" And I told her no, I'd rather just leave, turned, and left. As I was walking away, she again yelled at me that I wasn't going to find the item.
When I went to the Pasadena store, the associate there said that they did have the item on sale but it was sold out very quickly because they only had two at the time. She offered to call other stores nearby to see if they had it - turned out I was just out of luck with that item. It wasn't available anywhere. At least the Pasadena employee tried! I realized then just how easy it was to check with the other stores. With the way Tere had acted, I thought I was asking for something that was impossible.
Now, don't get me wrong - normally when I go to the Monrovia branch, I have a pleasant experience. Most of the people who work there are great. This lady Tere, though, I just don't understand why she is still working here after being so awful to all these people. Obviously it's not just us all being unreasonable jerks if there are quite a few complaints about this one person. I don't know if calling the district manager will sort things out, but I think an employee who treats customers like idiots, or worse, garbage, should either be retrained or moved to an area where she is not allowed to interact with people.
Tere makes me hesitate to go to this particular branch. If I'm in the area and I do end up going here, I am always relieved when I see it's not Tere but someone else at the front. read more
