I'm not certain why the bad reviews on here, other than people are uneducated and want to blame their mistakes on others. I have been a Petro customer since June of 2007 at my current home, and have signed with them in a new home I just purchased. You do not have to sign up for a price protected 1 year plan, but if you do, they make you repeat on a recorded line at the end of the call, that you understand that there is an early termination fee. They have never tried to hide this, or even dodge the issue. Also, as with any fuel delivery service, if you are on auto-delivery, they are going to top you off before the heating season starts. I fail to see the problem with preparedness and planning. Petro's oil prices do run a little bit high, but I use them based on the following reasoning: They have always delivered to me on time, in 8 years I have never run out and they have never left me stranded. We even received a delivery during the power outages following Hurricane Sandy, when at the same time my neighbor ran out of oil and could not find anyone to deliver. Petro has also been maintaining my 35+ year old boiler and it runs beautifully. Technicians are always prompt, courteous, clean, and never leave a mess. Office staff, phone reps, etc, are always friendly. I believe in the stability of larger companies for some things, and not having to worry about whether I have enough oil and whether or not the boiler will fire, is worth the small premium that they charge. I have seen a number of negative reviews for Petro Oil (in Rhode Island) online; but I cannot imagine why, as wehave been very satisfied for the past 24 years. When we purchased our house years ago, we had a local company (DeBlois Oil), but then they were purchased by Petro. In all this time, we have NEVER had any service or oil delivery problems. We have always had a price cap and automatic delivery. Also, their technicians have always been excellent with respect to an annual tune-up. A few years ago we decided to replace our old steam boiler with a new furnace. Petro did a wonderful job, and the pricing was competitive. We also have a service contract and have had a few emergency calls in winter that happened in the middle of the night. The service was prompt and excellent every time. Also, we just had to replace our oil tank; and because I had a service agreement with oil tank coverage, almost all of the cost was covered. When we discovered that the oil tank was about to let go, they had servicemen at our house within a half hour; and not only did they get the oil out before it spilled, but we were given a full credit for the lost oil. I can honestly say that we have been very satisfied with Petro and would recommend them. read more

Great service! I rarely leave reviews but the customer service I've gotten from Petro has been great from the start. I've had them just under a year now. They were quick to come out and install. They usually come every 3-4 weeks to refill during the winter. Recently, there was a schedule issue, I'm assuming because of the holiday. They came late and I actually ran out of propane for one day. I was working so I didn't realize it until I got home at 9pm. I called them at 10pm and they scheduled an emergency delivery for first thing in the morning. Thankfully, it wasn't a very cold night so I was OK. Now, running out is not good and I obviously was not happy about that, but someone did come first thing in the morning to add a few gallons to my tank so I could get my heat going. A couple hours later, I received a full delivery. The exceptional service part truly happened today, two days after the delivery. I received a call from Matt in the delivery department simply to apologize for the issue! So many companies would have left the issue alone after the delivery. My hot water heater broke late at night, so having a contract with Petro I called and was told a tech person would come the next morning. My assigned tech guy, Anthony (#222), showed up early around 8:30am. I was at work and had another family member home to let him in. During the service visit, Anthony was very thorough inspecting things until he found the issue. He didn't have the necessary part for the repair so he went out to get it and came back swiftly. I spoke with him via phone twice during the service visit and he explained everything he was doing and answered all my questions plus all the questions of my family member who was at the house. At the end of the service visit, he did not leave until he was sure all was working as it should and I had my heat and hot water working perfectly. After being with the company for 35 years it was my undoing to find out nothing could be done to help in in the situation they were telling me I was in. After the very recent death of my husband I was told I had to get a new oil tank immediately or no oil. No having any idea as of yet what my financial status was going to be I was devastated. After several phone calls and tech visits with the same resolve this past Friday Todd#220 and Ozzie #221 come out and Todd has a solution that will at least help me through winter and allow time for me to get my head together. Today Sunday I had no window for the repair but at 9:15 my bell rings its Todd and the problem is taken care of done. He is my hero. It is just a little heart breaking that I had to undergo the stress the sleepless nights and tears to get someone to even try to help. Thank you God for sending Todd and Ozzie to me. read more

I just want to thank Todd (Tech#220) and Michel (Tech#244), from Petro, for providing such excellent Customer Care. They were sent to help add some propane to my empty tanks and reset my furnace and hot water heater. They were professional and very friendly. They were effective and efficient with their service call and made sure everything was working properly. They instructed me on what to have my heat set at and what limitations I would have until I received a full delivery of propane (within the next 24 hours). It also leads me to appreciate the service call center as they responded to my request with kindness and urgency. This is why I am a Petro customer and will always continue to be. It is one thing to provide customer "service" but when a company's employees provide customer "care", it adds a whole other level of customer appreciation. Thank you! read more

I have a Boiler Maintenance contract with Petro. Boilers are a different animal, and requires certified professionals who also knows plumbing and what they are doing. Johon Cano saved me from a catastrophe. It was 22 degrees last night and I called for service before we going away. I thought it should've been simple, but I was wrong. If he didn't wait until the boiler came up to pressure, (all others would immediately ran out the door) we never would've spotted a leak in a crucial area, that would've be catastrophic in this cold weather while we were away. The Boiler would shut down, no heat in the house and pipes would've froze. Thank you Johon for going the extra mile and rechecking before you left. Get the Maintenance contract. It's worth it. You are a priority when something goes wrong. read more

I called Petro at 4:30 am for ceiling leak from my HVAC unit that is in the attic. I was told I would have a tech by 9:00 am. I was contacted by Todd # 220 by 8:45 to advise me that he was about 15 minutes away. He arrived at 9 am, went right to work, diagnosed the issue and made the necessary repairs. He reviewed everything with me on what he was working on and parts that he recommended. He was polite, very professional and a pleasure to communicate with. When finished he throughly inspected the HVAC unit to insure it was working as intended. It was real privilege to see a young man with the skill set to perform repairs as well as converse on a very difficult morning for my wife and me. My AC died on Friday morning, Ii called Petro and their service tech was out between 7:00-9:30 at night trying to get it to work. Couldn't get it working, so service tech said he would have a salesman contact me on Sat. Mr. Morris met with me on Sat., discussed all the options and after I signed up. He told me he would try to get someone there ASAP. Tue morning Petro called and said that they would be there by 9:00. Mr Morris also called me to make sure that someone did call. By Tue. afternoon I had a new AC system. The install team had to work inthe attic on a very hot steamy day. When they were done, there was very little mess for me to clean up.Petro has my oil, generator and now my AC system. So far their service has been excellent. Thank You Petro. read more

when we first moved into our home we had set up a service contract with them. The company came out an did a repair on my oil unit that costed me about 200$. They sent 2 Techs to do this job and both missed a major issue with the unit and I had to get a local company to come out and fix what could of burned my house down. that costed me 1200$ The automated system is garbage. And the staff can't seem to notice notes I have given in my account. Last year alone they came out twice in a month to fill and costed me over 2 grand. To me that is Highway robbery. The constant phone calls for a delayed payment was every day for almost 2 weeks. just because I couldn't afford it at the time so I was paying in small amounts so I can manage other bills. i am a ten year customer. Recently, after one petro technician told me a replacement part for my furnace was no longer available and that i needed a new furnace, both Todd #220 and Mike #200 came when i called to say that the furnace manufacturer disagreed, saying that part was readily available. Both Technicians were knowledgeable, courteous & competent...and they found the very part needed. It was actually in Todd's truck so it could be installed immediately. They are excellent so i will request them again. Generally speaking, Petro has typically sent very good Technicians to me all these years, but the above two were so excellent that I had to give them credit for helping me out so expertly. read more

I had a whistle/vent failure and could not get a an oil delivery; while this initially appeared to be a very simple repair, the awkward location of the tank made it a very strenuous and laborious task. This was a little bit of an emergency as I was about to leave the Country for 3 weeks and was afraid that the house would run out of oil and freeze during my absence. After the first technician was unable to perform the repair, they sent Todd (Tech #220): absolutely the best! He was able to move the whole tank by hand, replace the vent alarm and complete additional minor maintenance steps. Prompt and efficient! We are new to oil living in our house for a few years and have been learning as we go along. After many companies that we didn't appreciate working on our furnaces I decided to use Petro. Johan #203 discovered an urgent situation immediately and completely broke it down. Great experience, they always keep our oil full without having to call out. When I started our tank was almost empty I was able to get in contact on a Sunday and get oil the next day! I recently had an issue with a thermostat, I called on Saturday they had someone out the same day. Desmond our tech was extremely knowledgeable and had the problem diagnosed and repaired very quickly. I would strongly recommend! Desmond was great and as a new home owner he answered all my questioned and was able to advise me on good maintenance behaviors for my furnace. read more

Todd, #220, was excellent. I needed my A/C units and system checked for the yearly maintenance. had been having issues with allergies and had tested the house for mold and bacteria to discern why we were having allergy issues. Todd recommended a UV system for the air ducts to kill and pathogens before the air gets sent out of the system. I had it installed on all units as well as surge protectors since we lose power frequently. Great service and very informative technician. read more

My furnace wasn't turning on, yet I had power all through the house. Called petro for help they immediately had a tech out in an hour. Alex tech #229, was immediately able to spot the issue in 30 sec and did the proper replacements Necessary for my old furnace to power On again. Our senior neighbor lost his heat late last night and scheduled a repair for late this afternoon. Todd, tech #220, responded to the emergency call but unfortunately did not have the correct repair part. He left at 4 pm with hopes that he could locate the part. Alex from Petro went above and beyond to help us get our heat and hot water back. He trouble shot and continued to look for the issue. Once he found it he took the time to make sure the hot water and heat worked and explained everything he was doing thoroughly.
