I am running out of propane and it's impossible to get a delivery. It's unusually cold temperatures for an extended amount of days. They were scheduled for Monday - no show...they were scheduled for Tuesday - no show...said they were sending emergency services - continually confirmed and canceled. Emergency Service finally shows up and useless. Today is Wednesday and they buy time claiming you are 2 stops away and no show!!! read more

We were customers of Petro since 2003 when we bought our house that came with the service. Up until recently we were happy with them. However, we decided to switch to gas and with a boiler and separate hot water heater this time. We called Petro for a quote and it was very expensive. Then they told us they could price match if we find someplace cheaper. So, I did find another company cheaper, called back Petro and they denied they ever said the price match. Hummm. We were gonna do this project in the Spring, but sadly our boiler blew up because it's been extremely cold and I guess the boiler couldn't handle it any longer. I gave Petro another try to see if they could give us a reasonable price and still very expensive and not even for a gas conversion but just to replace it with another oil boiler (no separate hot water heater). So, we decided to part ways with Petro. We've been loyal customers for over 20 years and they coiuldn't do a better price for us. Shame! read more

Our senior neighbor lost his heat late last night and scheduled a repair for late this afternoon. Todd, tech #220, responded to the emergency call but unfortunately did not have the correct repair part. He left at 4 pm with hopes that he could locate the part. He arrived at 5 pm, part in hand, and said he couldn't leave our neighbor without heat again tonight. Thank you, Todd, for service above and beyond! read more

Absolutely disappointed with @petro. To give a bit of a breakdown, our furnace broke three weeks ago. A technician came out to our house, completely ignored Samantha when she asked if he needed anything. He then told us it would take three weeks for the parts to be delivered; side note, looks like he took the parts that were broken with him so i can't even have another HVAC company come and take a look. They also attempted to upsell me and install a new furnace, but when I opted for the repair it seemed as if the engagement with the service tech cooled. It's now three weeks +1 day, and not a single person from this company has reached out to me. I've followed up multiple times, apparently there's a field service management group (doubtful considering their lack of any sort of reply), and we're going on a month without heat. I have a toddler and a 6 month old child in the house with my wife, and we're using space heaters to keep warm in the dead of winter. My heat went out and had to schedule a service, Todd Smith came on time and was extremely friendly and super knowledgeable. He not only fixed the issue but also did a complete service of my system and significantly increased the efficiency. The whole time he was explaining everything and expanding my understanding of how everything works and what problems to look out for. It is a rare thing to come across an individual like Todd who has a great personality and takes the time work on my system like it was his own. Brand new customer. They came to do an oil delivery yesterday, checked my account today. Only delivered 8 gallons...no one contacted me so I called them. Apparently, there isn't a vent guard so they cannot deliver. We had oil deliveries last year with no problem. I am so not happy with them. What kind of company does this? read more

12 year customer - I give Petro one star for showing up, and for offering a decent price quote on oil to gas coversion. So why the low rating? They price high on oil and work to enable their deliveries at the best time price wise for them. When I went to discontinue my oil plan, to convert to gas, they charged me a 399.00 cancelation fee.even though It had just been reupped for one year starting Sept 2024, with no additional oil delivery planned until Dec. This is an expensive money-grubbing company! They say you pay more for every gallon of oil because they are a "full-service" company. Meanwhile, you only get service for your furnace if you agree to a 12-month service contrac. Then, if you sell your house 5 months (or 3 months or 7, etc) into that 12-month agreement, they refuse to prorate the refund, even though they are automatically relieved of any obligation to provide a service. I was a customer for 18 years--and this is just the latest example of them ripping me off! Last year, they "automatically" filled my oil tank in March when my tank was more than half full and I would not have needed a delivery that entire year. They lied and said they estimated my tank was less than 1/4 full. So that's what they mean by "service." Goug. Goug. Gouge. read more

We have been long time customers of Petro Home Services. Overall the maintenance a heating service technicians are very good, but sometimes they are excellent. With our recent service issue Todd was one of those excellent service techs. He diagnosed and resolved an ongoing heating issue that we had been having that none of the other techs was able to resolve. read more

Customer service is fine however their prices are too high. Other companies are 40-50 cents cheaper a gallon. They claim it's because they are a "24 Hour Service". If my oil delivery is simply that why should that possible service factor into my price? Also they do not price match like other companies do, definitely shop around. read more

And I'm sure a lot of people, including myself have noticed customer service in the last few years has gone down the toilet however Petro still keeps a very high standard Anthony tech #222 went way above and beyond when he came to do my yearly service The other day he even moved stuff that was behind my furnace and found problems in my chimney that could've been very dangerous to my family and I. He got my numbers from my realtor and hounded me as I was trying to coordinate the movers while moving in. Petro is an absolute trash oil company. I get phone calls every other day about scheduling a boiler tune up. Of course the hours they provide do not work for me and most people that have 9-5 jobs. I've told them this multiple times, but the spam calls keep coming from them. Even one of the phone numbers they use shows up as spam. So naturally I've been refusing to answer those calls, as most would. Well my card on file apparently expired, so I made a payment immediately wondering why nobody bothered to contact me. Today I came home to no heat and the oil tank was bone dry. Checked my dozens of voicemails from them and they tried ONCE to contact me about my card on file. Meanwhile, the spam calls kept coming in regularly. Spoke with a rep, then her supervisor, then his supervisor and not a single one of them would take any sort of responsibility and told me I had to pay a fee to have them come out to deliver a small amount of oil until my next delivery. Told them I'd be taking to social media and contacting the Better Business Bureau. Amateur hour over there. read more

He was professional, extremely knowledgeable and took the time to explain things so we could understand them. It would be great if there was a direct line to him- I would continue using Petro if this were the case. I gave 5 stars because Alex deserves 5 stars. No Care OR concern for customers AND THEIR TIME, VERY UNORGANIZED. I called last Year to pay my last payment and advise them I sold my Home and no longer need their services. They took my payment and said OK. 7 months later I received a call from the buyers lawyer saying they have a receipt in my name for a oil delivery from that month. He also advised me the new buyers converted the system to gas. So they delivered oil to a home I no longer own and they want me to pay it. The new owner also called Petro and asked them to come retrieve the oil out of the tank as they no longer use the oil system. After months of back and forth. Me constantly calling them. Being put on hold, having to re-tell the story EVERY time. Them never or barely returning calls. They claim they received the final payment(of coarse), but have no record of me cancelling. Meanwhile the new owner is still upset that there is oil in a tank that they no longer use. So here we are almost 17 months since I cancelled. They now have sent me to collections for a bill that's not mine on a home that I don't own. They have not retrieved the oil (even thought it is worth double what it was at delivery). SO INSTEAD OF APOLOGIZING FOR THEIR MIXUP, COLLECT THE OIL AND DOUBLE THEIR PROFIT. They think its smart to sell the false debt at a discount to a collection agency. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Im on the fence about this company seems a lot of sketchy. How is you are refilling my tank on a monthly basis without even asking me but saying we dont want you to run out and we must do this until we are able to determine how much oil you use. If you cant determine that im three winter months. It makes me wonder. Ill definitely be seeking out other options for next winter. If I could give no stars I would. I don't ever write a bad review but this story needs to be told. I moved into my house and noticed my new oil tank was serviced by Petro. I figured let me stay loyal and use their company. When I signed on it was stated they would come every 2-3 months depending on the weather and fill my tank and that it would be automatic. I was also credited $100 for signing with them. Seemed great. I signed in September and received my first oil delivery. That was fine. THEN 3 weeks later they came again, and 3-4 weeks after that, which continued EVERY MONTH! They were filling my tank unnecessarily. Their comment was, "We are trying to gage how much oil you are using." I then felt uncomfortable having them come and go as they pleased with no notification. I decided to apply a lock and notified them that I wanted to be present for each fill in the future. They agreed. They decided to show up without me being on my property and disregarded the fact that there was a lock on my tank. Took off the lock, and filled my tank. This is wrong on so many levels. There was nothing I could do because if you try to cancel they charge you $599. Thankfully the weather got warmer and I didn't have to worry so much. I called in advance to see what the protocol was for canceling when my contract was up. The associate said, "Since you have no oil deliveries due, you can cancel now and won't be hit with any other fees. You are paid off, other then your $150 remaining balance from your past delivery. The next day I received a voicemail stating I owed the $599 early cancellation fee?? I called back and the story once again changed. I did not owe $599. But I owe the $100 credit that was given to me starting the contract since you closed early??? I have never felt so violated and used by a company before and I am posting this so that every knows NOT to use Petro Oil. They do not care about you, or your property. They just want your money. I will not be using this company ever again and will tell the realtors and contractors that I know not to use as well. read more

We have been a customer for 30 years! But after 5 different estimates to have our furnace replaced we will not be paying Petro the $11,500 that their so called salesman told us it would cost to replace. Plus this guy was NO salesman. He knows very little about how to talk to a customer. He handed us a pamphlet to read then sat there. All of the other estimates where company's that are owner operated. They all came in between $8000 To $8500. for a unit that is the same or very comparable. Plus now I have some lady calling my house every freakin day because of my last review!! Petro called me in August to "fix the problem " . They are now saying I need a new burner, which needed to be ordered. They hooked up a 10 gallon water heater so my family and I could have hot showers. The hot water lasted about 2 minutes in the shower not to mention I was told to "do my laundry at the laundry mat" since this portable hot water heater was hooked up to my washing machine water lines. It's now October. They never returned, leaving us with no heat and unable to do laundry. When I signed a contract with them, I made payments through their online billing. My payments for the $8000.00 boiler were to begin in January, they started billing me in December, one month befor the SIGNED agreement stated. I made monthly payments, sometimes 2 in one month. 5 months later they closed my account stating I wasn't making payments!! They then demanded payment in full, which I didn't have, hence a payment plan. They would not accept any other payments. Their lawyer contacted me to begin payments again, then this all began! They never listen, we haven't moved in for over a month and they keep delivering oil to a house that doesn't need it. They keep saying they can't put it on hold since they're only automatic delivery. I go to cancel and guess what, they offered to put my delivery on hold. Surprise they can put it on hold, just only when I cancel. Also if you're trying to convert from oil to gas don't bother, tech guy says oil is more expensive than gas for heating, yeah sure. And he said it takes over a year, which is bs. Went through con Edison done in a month to remove an oil tank and switch to gas heating. They only want your money and are useless with complaints. Been trying to get a hold of a supervisor for a month to get a refund, said they will elevate my concerns to urgent and have them call me back, they didn't, they probably never will. We recently moved into a neighborhood with oil and contracted petrol home services for our oil needs. We did not really know how to budget the cost of oil in our 1st year and accumulated a 2058 $ balance... When I call today to work out a payment plan as we are dangerously low on oil I was told that the account had beenclosed and I would need to pay off the balance pay a hefty security deposit and a 10% penalty!!... I have been using Petro for over a year now, and could not be more pleased with thier setvice. I have a maintenance contract with them and I'm on a budget plan also. When ever I need service they come right out and fix my issues. Tech Anthony #222 was here today and was great he fixed my thermostat and now it's working great. I gave also had Alex here who is in my option one of the best techs. When I first bought this house we didnt k is much about oil burners and ran out on a very cd Sunday, calling around looking for a company no one would help us but Petro, they came out with enough fuel to get us through till they could send a truck to fill us up, right then n there I signed up with them. read more

Petro left us with a bad impression of their business practices. We purchased a new oil home heating furnace from their territory manager, Robert Morris. After agreeing to purchase the system and have it installed we got surprised by a bill for $248 that required us to pay for the town's permit of the installation of our unit. I called Robert and all he could tell me was that it was stated on the contract and that he mentioned it while doing our paperwork. This is a lie as he never mentioned it to me or my wife. I spoke to his manager and all he could say was "I'm sorry" but you still have to pay it. We don't understand how someone can purchase something from a dealer and then later send their customers bill to pay for something that was never disclosed to us at the time of purchase. Thanks for nothing Petro! We will not be using you for home heating oil next year. You lost a customer. read more

Performed service on a Saturday evening after hours (great) with a $50 extra service fee (OK, I accepted that). After replacing a transformer available online retail for $35 I was charged 10X mark-up. Spoke to Ray who explained that I was lucky to get the after hours service (yes, though I paid for it) and that the high parts price was reflective of the time the service was performed (what?). This is the 2nd time I've had a billing issue and the 2nd time my perspective was dismissed. My advice if using them: Watch out for price gouging. read more

We switched to Petro for our propane needs. They waited until after we paid the bill to check my husbands credit score. They then called him to tell him that they would need a $350.00 deposit against the account. The propane tank only holds $120.00 worth of propane. When he told them to cancel the service and just reimburse us for the remaining propane in the tank, they agreed. They then called back and told them that they were going to charge a $75.00 fee for picking up the tank. Are they suffering for business???? They won't get it this way. read more

Nothing but problems are issues with this company from the beginning. Had them install a brand new boiler supposed to be " top of the line" and promised we'd never have any issues with it.. have had 2 incidents where the boiler shut down where we were left without heat and it's only a two years old. We were changed 1,200 dollars for repairs. No one ever told us the price of anything just installed it and expected us to sign for the bill. Enrolled in there ceiling plan for oil only to ALWAYS be charged 2 dollars more a gallon than all competitors. Oh, and if you want to get out of the plan early because you can't afford paying 800 for oil every 2 months it's a 500 dollar charge. Last delivery they told us we needed one more oil delivery before canceling ( which isn't true). So we called back to cancel and still got the oil. Call to speak about it and they conveniently have no notes on the conversation. Stay FAR away from this company. They are an absolute nightmare to work with and vastly overcharge. read more

Don't sign a contract with them! If you have to just do a one time delivery but NOT a contract. I did and I chose the ceiling option where my price will stay the same if the oil goes up but if the lower price available I will get a lower price. Sounds good. But they don't honor it. When oil prices went down (diesel too - since I was told to look for prices on diesel to see approximate price for my future delivery) I was still charged my ceiling price. I called and new customers were getting a dollar per gallon LESS compared to my bill. I was told that I am not new and this a promotional price. Maybe but not a whole dollar less! Then she started talking that since I sign up during a period when prices are high I will pay higher during duration of our contract! That not how it was explained to me! LIARS! AVOID! read more

I just want to thank Todd (Tech#220) and Michel (Tech#244), from Petro, for providing such excellent Customer Care. They were sent to help add some propane to my empty tanks and reset my furnace and hot water heater. They were professional and very friendly. They were effective and efficient with their service call and made sure everything was working properly. They instructed me on what to have my heat set at and what limitations I would have until I received a full delivery of propane (within the next 24 hours). It also leads me to appreciate the service call center as they responded to my request with kindness and urgency. This is why I am a Petro customer and will always continue to be. It is one thing to provide customer "service" but when a company's employees provide customer "care", it adds a whole other level of customer appreciation. Thank you! read more

We used them when we first moved into our house and cannot recommend them. The first issue was that we had delivery issues. We ran out of fuel in October and had to have them come at night with a couple of gallons of fuel to get us going until they could schedule a delivery the next day. We were very cautious after that. So we were going away for Christmas and were low on fuel again. They did not want to come and finally we had to beg them to come and deliver fuel on a weekend. They delivered and the driver had an attitude. The next issue was with their service. They unilaterally decided to schedule a preventative maintenance check on a day that we were both working. I called them up and told them that we were working that day and that we will call them to schedule the maintenance. Of course we got a call the day before the cancelled appointment telling us that they would be there the next day. We continued to have issues with their delivery and finally had to cancel their service. We had received a $400 discount because we were new customers and signed a 1 year contract. The only way they would let us cancel the contract would be is if we paid back the $400. I was so disgusted with them that I almost did it, however after calling their corporate office and letting them know how badly they treated a new customer, they waved it and we were able to get out of our contract. The funny thing is that after we cancelled the account, they kept calling us and sending us literature asking us if we wanted to restart our service with them.
