Unfortunately, this location of Toastique does not offer decaf - they only have a single hopper for their coffee, so it is not an offering. We were going to find another place, however, they said how about a hot chocolate or a tea. My friend is vegan and inquired if their hot cocoa was vegan, as most places have dairy in the chocolate. The cashier went to look at the chocolate syrup and also had another person look at it to verify it's vegan. My friend ordered a hot chocolate with oat milk. Even though it was busy, we only waited about 5 minutes for her drink. We appreciated the effort to double check it was vegan, though I do wish they had decaf options.

Now, you might wonder how a place that serves a four-dollar lunch gets four stars. Allow me to explain. No, that will take too long. Allow me to sum up. They are friendly: Gum, the owner, will greet about half the people who come in by name. They are fast: Order a cheeseburger combo for five bucks, and you're eating it within five minutes. They are welcoming: You'll see a huge cross-section of people ranging from congresspeople on down. And the food is largely good. I usually get a cheeseburger combo, which is exactly as you would expect from a short-order grill. But the specials are sometimes inspired (ask for the homemade carrot dressing), the French toast is as good as anywhere on the hill, and the pan-Asian vegetarian fare is a fun break from monotony. Caveat: I have only had breakfast here and get there as soon as it opens so . . . The menu is simple and abundant enough for a small diner. The service is great - fast and friendly. The owner/workers are quick to see to your needs and your food is in front of you in 5 minutes (literally, today it was 5 minutes). The food is hot and plentiful. A plateful of omelet, home fries and toast with coffee is $10. This is the SMALLEST restaurant you can imagine so it does not take much to make it crowded. But that's OK, it's still a diner, open at 6am so you can power up early in the morning, or maybe it's just real real late from the night before....... Great selection of sandwiches and made to order hot dishes! I grabbed the Bulgogi plate! It was delicious! The place was quite busy but I didn't have to wait long for my food. Folks were friendly and food came out hot and as ordered. There is indoor seating and looked like might some limited outdoor seating during warmer weather too. Definitely would come back!

Service is good, and the vibe is all D.C. Like the bottomless coffee. Check out the monster size Cakes and the Cinnamon Roll feeds 4 but weekends only.

Think of the visitor center restaurant as part over priced deli, part interesting food court and a bit of leftovers from Cracker Barrel. If you have been walking all over the visitor grounds, you're probably tired. Sit for a bit, grab something with theme park prices and then go to Chinatown, DuPont Circle or something near City Center DC. The photo ops around the capital are worth the visit. Forget parking. Take metro at Union Station or an Uber. The visitor's center has useful details on all the "how tos" while on the grounds.

I grabbed a salad and on the notice it said it was 1.70 a lb but when I checked out I ended up paying $26 for my salad! Most expensive salad I've ever purchased! My friends grabbed the same thing but they were charged differently. I will say that they had this dulce de leche cheesecake and that was divine!!! I didn't leave a piece of lettuce behind! My cheesecake was $6 for a slice. The Capitol building tour was decent!
