Gave it a 5 primarily due to its place in MKE and the overall quality. If you get a chance to get a loaf of Italian bread straight out of the oven not much better. There was a time I'd go every Sunday to get a loaf but always stopped at gloriosos first for items to accompany the bread. My family and I were here yesterday for the Brady Street Pet Parade. I found they had a wide variety of bakery items along with deli. The prices are par with other bakeries. They had a Pet Parade special for $3, a ham and cheese sandwich on roll. Very good price. The staff were friendly. My husband had an Apple Turnover and my daughter had a lemon "thing". They stated both were good. They also sell water and milk which you will need after eating those nummy bakery items. read more

Meh not for me as an east coast Italian that is use to crusty dense Italian bread that crackles and makes noise when you break off a nice end piece in the car that's hard crusty on the outside and dense and firm but soft on the inside. Not here, but I guess if you like your Italian bread with a whimpy crust and with seeds on it you may like it. Or if you like your biscotti on the mushy side you'll be all set. Me in the other hand threw 2 pounds away along with the other cookies. East Coasters beware it's not what we are use to. We got a full-sheet cake made for a graduation party. Chocolate frosting, tres leches filling. It was amazing! The decoration was cute and not over the top. Great bakery for cakes! I've been a bit hesitant to fully commit to Peter Sciortino's bakery because I've had my share of bakery disappointments. So with Peter's, I treaded a bit more carefully. I first tried their lemoncillo cupcake so that I didn't have to commit to a whole cake and it was stupendous! I just recently bought my birthday cake from them this past weekend: Mudslide Torte. And it was a piece of heaven!! The best chocolate cake I've ever had in my life and I'm not much a of a chocolate cake fan. It was the rave of my party and made my event that much more enjoyable. Everyone kept asking where I got my cake from. PETER SCIORTINO'S BAKERY. ON TOP of the delicious cake, I kept my expectation low on decor because I've always been a tad disappointed. Worked at the bakery as a favor! Worst experience of my life! The owner licked chocolate off a brownie and then sold it to and elderly man. To make it worse she proceeded to laugh about it with her husband the other owner! They also do NOT wear gloves or hairnets. Could not believe all of the health code violations. How have I NEVER reviewed this place. This bakery is the reason I finally conceded and moved to Milwaukee from Madison. The bread and cookies here are AMAZING and authentic. You really must try their canoli which are filled on demand and have a crispy cookie on the outside; the amaretti are also to-die-for and they are gluten-free. Love this place. But get there early because a lot of the breads run out quick. I shared the cinnamon twist, chocolcate filled croissants and the cherry turnovers. Oddly the cherry turnovers were my favorite (I'm a chocolate freak) and were very flaky. The chocolate croissants were filled with a sort of pudding filling, and I was expecting just chocolate chips, so I didn't enjoy them as much. My boyfriend and I also bought some swiss cheese and salami type meat (can't remember the name, but better than salami). They also sell eggs, milk, and a few other things to get the day started right. But we arrived arrived around 10:30 or 11am on a Sunday and they were already out of most breads. I can't mention that enough because I've heard the breads are good and not too expensive. Definately worth getting up early for! read more

My husband and I traveled to Milwaukee this year to celebrate their first Wisconsin Christmas with our daughter and her family. Because my daughter and I both have birthdays the week before Christmas I seldom make a point of celebrating mine and probably haven't had a birthday cake for over 15 years. I really LOVE a good cake, though, and decided that this year was going to be different. We waited until after Christmas day and then treated ourselves with a trip to Peter Sciortino's on the recommendation of a restaurateur friend of our daughter. Instead of an entire cake (since they apparently no longer sell them) we brought home an assortment of pastries, which we were generous enough to share with the rest of the family. I will be perfectly happy to enjoy the Limoncello Torte once a year for the rest of my life. It is light and fresh with a delightful bold lemon flavor and it was without a doubt my favorite. We also tried the Chocolate Duo mousse, hazelnut napoleon, and a turtle cupcake, all of which were quite delicious. It wasn't until we went to check out that I noticed the cookie case and almost went down a really dangerous rabbit hole. I will definitely be back to try the spumoni cookies and the cucidati (fig cookies). We thank CJ for the recommendation and I am happy to recommend Peter Sciortino's. This is a great bakery on Brady St. filled with pastries, breads, scones, and cakes. Great stop if you are on your way to Brewed to get some coffee. They are open pretty generous hours for a bakery. Watch out for the Sunday morning church crowd; they clean out a bunch of items. I always use cash because it is so cheap so I do not know if there is a minimum for credit. read more

This place is great for a couple of reasons: Their bakery on weekend mornings is to die for, my favorite being the cinnamon swirls. Their bread and rolls are fresh made and perfect. They have fresh, never frozen, already risen pizza dough that I use to make pizza and calzones. I would never go anywhere else for Italian baked goods. read more

The chocolate croissant was the most dissapointing chocolate croissant I have ever had unfortunately, but the tiramisu and cakes were very good. The cream butter horn I think it is called was excellent and unique, but it is not enough to make up for the croissant.
