We came here last minute on a whim. Their pastries looked amazing! I ordered one raspberry macaron which was nothing special. I get why it's $1.35/each... there was hardly any filling. I also ordered the limoncello cake which smelled delicious, BUT it was undercooked. Packed with a lemon flavor but was hoping for it to be balanced between tart and sweet. Like the feel of the place. It's a neighborhood's gem!! We tried several of their items except their cookies. They're all tasted very good. The breads and the buns are good and tasted quite traditional. We also got a Nutella croissant - super delicious!! The sweet smells of baked bread, cakes, and cookies linger in the air many nights when I'm walking home. Sadly though for whatever reason, by morning I often forget about Sciorintinos. Maybe it's because I don't usually drive down brady street in the early morning. Whatever the reason, I shouldn't and neither should you because their baked goods are really, really good. It's a long time Brady Street business that has never disappointed me. Given that there's always people coming and going (it's never been empty when I've stopped in) you'd think there'd be a long wait. However, I've rarely waited and am usually helped within a minute or two of walking in. I usually get a box of their Italian cookies. There's literally maybe 40+ varieties and you can mix a box however you'd like (I feel terrible going "one of those, now two of those, wait-no one of those, no no the other kind" when I stop in but they're usually very patient.) They also do pastries, bread and rolls that are big with the Sunday morning church crowd, I'm told fantastic cakes, and if I'm remembering correctly, they have gelato sometimes too? They also have homemade take and bake pizzas for $6 or 2/$10 that I always want to try. Check the hours-some days they close by early afternoon, and stop in. read more

Was searching for some pastries this past wknd in the MKE, and this location came up as one of the closest to where I was. Now, don't get me wrong - I AM an Italophile, but I was more craving French bakery items than Italian... My sweet tooth only allowed me to get some cookies, an almond croissant and some coffee to go. BUT my oh my, the breads looked awesome! Actually that's more what I would recommend this place for - - even though i didn't even have any. Service was exceptionally friendly. Cookies - - wide variety of the small "weigh 'em to see how much they cost" Italian kind. (Like amaretti... and limoncello flavored, heck they even had an irish cream flavor.) But the cookies were all small. Croissants - they had some chocolate and almond. (Can't remember if they had a plain butter.) But this Croissant aux amandes junky had to go with the almond. Meh! I have had better.... but this is an italian bakery, not a french bakery. Coffee - - was the kind that you get out of the individual capsules. So it was just fine for me. One coffee, one almond croissant, and a bag of approx 10 little cookies set me back about $7.00. Not TOO bad... and the cookies traveled well back home on the flight. read more

This is a fun place - a large selection of italian cookies and some additional fan favorites. They also have a variety of Italian meats (I didn't try those). I thought some of these cookies are really great - and at $12/lb, not nearly as expensive as it could have been. Some of them (sesame rolled cookie) were really bland and boring. The wife and daughter split a traditional cream puff and a chocolate cream puff. The traditional is waiting it's turn, the chocolate having really won them over. Oh so tasty - both of them smile and giggle when they think about it. The cherry turnover - a bit of a disappointment. I think buying these on a rainy day worked against us, these cookies and pastries really soak up the ambient humidity and what started out as crisp becomes soggy, no fault of the shop. read more

I wasnt able to eat the pastries on the spot, but a little zap in the microwave brought these back to life and were delicious in my mouth. I purchased 2 large boxes of cookies to give as christmas gifts and 1 box for my family to enjoy. I shared the cookies with my family immediately and they were not fresh at all. Almost to the point that they were inedible. I had already delivered the other 2 boxes to my friends as gifts. I am so embarrassed that I gifted someone these dry, stale cookies. Keep in mind that this was a $50 cookie purchase. I have purchased these every christmas for years and have never been disappointed. Easy to spot this place due to the cool mosaic of bread on the wall outside! Also, you may well see a line of people piling up outside the door! We'd just gotten there and suddenly a crowd backed up behind us. There were tons of tempting baked goods, including some HUGE cream puffs in flavors like dulce de leche and strawberry (I got the latter). My friend got an apple pie bar. Compared to Chicago, where I came from, things were downright cheap ($2 for the giant cream puff). Dozens of types of bread were piled up in the back and those seemed to be what people were clamoring for more than anything. Someone else had come to pick up a tempting-looking cake. The only reason I am knocking down a star is because I had a sick stomach in the afternoon after eating my cream puff. I can't guarantee it was to blame, and if I was in town I would be willing to try other (different) things from the bakery again. In any case, this place clearly has a history and many fans already to speak for it. read more

No holiday plans are complete without a trip to Peter Sciortino's Bakery. I have firsthand knowledge of how much fun, not to mention delicious, this place is. I ordered a birthday cake for my family's celebration yesterday. Six of us - count em, six (!!!) celebrated birthdays in the first half of December. It's kind of like Christmas Round 1. Whew! But, I digress. So yesterday I went to pick up an 8 inch layer cake that served 10-14...banana cake with chocolate ganache and chocolate mousse filling, frosted with chocolate buttercream. I got in the door to find what can only be described as a throng at the counter. Near the window was a sizeable avalanche of Priority Mail boxes that I imagine were loaded with festive holiday treats. A gentleman wearing an apron helped a customer load 12 of those babies into his car. While it was crazy busy, no one particularly minded. We focused on the business at hand - getting our treats. I took a number and jumped up and down and screamed like I won the lottery when they called me. A beaming woman brought out my beautifully decorated cake and I was delighted. Later that afternoon, my family oohed and aahed. We lit the candles and took a family photo. Then we dug in and ate cake in stunned silence because it was so good. The toddler's eyes lit up with delight. Rich, heavy and dense. I was named the bringer of cake for life! Thank you Sciortino's for making my family celebration so wonderful. By the way, the chocolate cannolis they sell here are amazing too! read more

Just moved to Milwaukee a few days ago and I decided to bring my new team at work a cookie tray from Peter's. WOW delish! I chose traditional cookies and everyone raved about them. A bunch of adults giggling and dunking biscotti and almond treats in coffee was the perfect start for the week. Will definitely be back to sample other items. The gals working were also super friendly. I wanted a tray with specific items and emailed the store. Maria created it for me and even said what time to come by and get it. This is a bakery that would be at home in the Brooklyn where I grew up, and they've been a taste of home that I've missed. I placed an order online for picking up Easter Sunday. I received an email that they were closed so I needed to pick up Saturday. I completely understood that situations. However when I got there there was a line out the door and no place to just pick up. I was told to wait in line because people in front of me had a pick ups as well. A wonderful bakery on Brady St. and Humbolt Ave. Everything I have tasted-from cinnamon rolls, cookies, tomato pie, tiramisu-was wonderfully executed. They even have gelato and other specialty deli items. Items are reasonably priced. I come here every week and will continue to do so, as long as the type two, adult onset diabetes doesn't kick in. If could give zero stars I would. So disappointed. I bought several boxes of cookies as gifts for family yesterday When we opened them we were shocked to discover they were stale and hard as rocks. I went back today and asked when the cookies I bought yesterday were baked and was informed 'several days ago'. And was told they 'bake them in large batches then freeze them'. The freshly baked cookies I thought I was buying, I got stale old inedible cookies at full price. Never going back. read more

Let me start by saying I've only had the donuts from here....so it's not quite a full review yet. Not sure what happened during new ownership but the quality has gone down. Few weeks ago I purchased hot ham and rolls. I paid extra for the Boar Heads brand. when I got home the hame was very dried out..Couldn't go back because the store was now closed. Their rolls tasted like something I would get from the grocery store. I used to LOVE their hard rolls . This isn't the first time I've had bad experience. Had a sandwich at a place that uses their product. It was horrible. I was truly disappointed. Ive had several people tell me the same thing. Quality is no longer there.
