This food is authentic and amazingly delicious. We had Fish Filet in Hot Iron Plate #42 with wood ear mushroom, snow peas basil and carrot. Flavor so deep, so good you cant help make gutteral noises. The fish is lightly battered and fried the braised in the sauce and so tender yet firm. Also had the braised seafood with spicy bean sauce in a clay pot. Unreal. Tons of various seafood and mushrooms in a sauce ive never tasted before. Im writing this review, eating it the next day, cold even, and still my wife and I are moaning. Eat here. Finally got around to checking this restaurant out after they were rated as a best Chinese restaurant Coastal Virginia Magazine. I ordered Hunan Flounder with fried rice and it was delicious. And the speed at which they delivered the food after I ordered was unbelievable. I don't know how the did it but I was surprised. I will definitely return in the future. read more

The food is halfway decent, but in no way worth it. It is also massively overpriced. The service at this location is abhorrent. I've both sat down and taken out food here and all times have been terrible, but this last experience finally put me over the edge. I ordered food online and paid in advance, which is probably what the mistake is. Once they have your money, they don't care. I arrived on time to get my food, sat there for 45 minutes, constantly reminding people and nobody helping me. The manager ran around like a chicken with his head cut off for 20 minutes doing nothing, and then I never saw him again, while a group of seemingly brain dead waiters stood in the corner. It was not until, after 40 minutes of waiting in the poorly decorated restaurant, that I decided to get a refund. When I asked for one, they "needed to get the manager" as it would be "almost impossible," and my food appeared 5 minutes later. When I got home, they had given me the wrong bag, and none of the contents were what I ordered. Instead: go to Bangkok garden! It's down Richmond Road and is decently priced, has a nice ambiance, and not run by what must be drunk middle schoolers. read more

I'm not much of a Chinese food fan, but Peter Chang made me reconsider. This is not the typical take out crap you get at a counter; worth trying especially if you like to try new flavors and dishes. If you don't like spicy, tell them so and they'll make sure it's not. The menu is so long that you almost think there are too many choices. I wanted to give this place a 4-star but the service killed it. I stopped by here with a party of seven after a long day at the water park. We were surprised to see a wait in the front when we walked in. They told us it would be 10 - 15 minutes. We still didn't get seated after 30 minutes passed by. It turned out that they were having a big party in the back room and did not have enough servers for other tables. So even though there were many empty tables but no servers were available. My friend had to talk to the "owner" several times with hint that we'd leave if we don't get served anytime soon. It was just ridiculous how they were so understaffed. Fortunately, all the food came out pretty quickly after we finally sat down and ordered. Most of the dishes were pretty good, but everything that came with sauce was veryyyy saucy to the point of being overwhelming. Overall, it was a decent Chinese restaurant considering it is in Williamsburg area. I honestly didn't expect much, but it was pretty decent and nothing was "bad". We tried Peter Chang again on our vacation. It's was still a solid Chinese restaurant. Their scallion pancakes were a huge favorite by our kids. Authentic Chinese dishes are pretty good. We tried their hot stone duck. It was spicy and excellent. It came with much duck meat and tofu noodles. If you don't like spicy food, ask for less spicy. Their salt and pepper octopus was ok. Their doubled cooked pork was solid. Their sesame chicken for kids was too sweet. If you are in the mood for Chinese in Williamsburg, definitely recommend Peter Chang. read more

Yummy Chinese food! We had the scallion bubble pancake w/curry dipping sauce, vegetarian egg rolls and egg drop soup for appetizers. After spending a full day at water country USA, we decided to get dinner at Peter Chang since it wasn't too far away. The restaurant is by itself and has its own parking lot. We went on a Sunday night and was told that the wait was 15 minutes, but it turned out to be over 25 minutes. However, there were a few empty tables and they wouldn't put them together. We had a party of 8 with 3 young hungry children. I had to harass the hostess a few times before we got seated. It took a while for the waitress to come to our table to take our orders. However, once we placed our order, the food and out pretty quickly. I'm glad the food wasn't as bad as I was expected. I enjoyed the fried fish appetizer but it was a little heavy on the salt. The three mushrooms with chicken was good. Other dishes are pretty decent but very saucy. This is a second Peter Chang restaurant that I've been to and was not impressed with their services. If I wasn't around the area, I wouldn't drive just to come here. read more

Excellent. This is probably one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever ate at. Large portions, good atmosphere, and good service. I had the Hot/Sour soup which is really good, most Chinese restaurants are really not that good, but PC was spot on. I then had General Tso chicken, which was on lunch menu, but they made into dinner and it was incredible. My son had chicken lo mein and it was very good. Peter Chang is probably one of the best Asian foods that you will come across in your life. Make sure to stop here if you are looking for good Asian Restaurants in Colonial Williamsburg. The wait time takes a few minutes for the full dishes, so take the Wonton Soup if you want a good starter which comes almost immediately! The waiters are polite and friendly and the food is amazing! What we ordered to give this review was the Fried Rice with Chicken,(Rice dish with Chicken comes with eggs and veggies) and Mountain Chicken. Mountain Chicken was fried crisp but tender inside. We ordered a take out meal on Christmas day. It was prepared super quickly despite the fact the restaurant was packed, and the cashier handed the order to us with a smile. Our tofu with mixed vegetables and kung pao chicken were delicious and not oily or salty. The vegetables were fresh and included some things we hadn't expected, such as asparagus and bok choy. I've been to a few Peter Chang restaurants and I have to admit that this one is probably my least favorite, but they still have really good authentic Chinese food. I think you'll find that they have something for everyone - including the more well known dishes like sweet and sour chicken and fried rice, but the Szechuan is where it's at. I love the hot and numbing dishes and the tea smoked duck. For starters, I wouldn't miss the eggplant or mushrooms. Service can be hit or miss and the decor isn't really anything to write home about, but I come here for the food. If you want to try something different, I would suggest going for lunch. They have a good lunch special M-F, but you can order from the entire menu at any time. read more

Very average. What is it about most Chinese restaurants that they can't get the lighting right? The glare from the ceiling lights made it feel as if we were dining in a gymnasium. And the décor..... it looked as if they had taken over a Denny's and removed all the "tasteful" Denny's furniture, replacing it with garish and mismatched pieces. The food was just OK. We ordered a chicken dish that challenged us to find the chicken. The service was indifferent and below average. The one bright spot is that when they say "spicy" they mean it. Our first time to a Peter Changs heard only good things about this chain through Food Network, and some friends. Well for starters upon walking in I was surprised of the cheesy decor. Plastic shower curtains separating dinning areas, paper signs taped to the walls. Bathrooms were a little funky according to my kids. If you can get passed these features that you would expect from lower price menu restaurant then you will be in for a delicious surprise. every dish ordered was yummy, service was ok too.. I was eager to try this place, seeing as a Chinese friend and I have been looking for good Chinese food in Williamsburg. We went around lunch time and both got lunch specials which come with hot and sour soup (or egg drop), spring rolls, and your entrée. The spring rolls had very little flavor besides the oil they were cooked in. On the inside there were vegetables but they were so overcooked that the inside of the roll was just a fatty, mushy filling. The hot and sour soup was decent; it did have real slices of bamboo shoot which was a plus. The entrée I got was chicken with vegetables served with fried rice. All of these needed more salt and flavor! The chicken was adequately, but the brown sauce served with it had little to no flavor. My Chinese friend was not sure what kind of dish it was supposed to represent because it was so bland. The fried rice was decent, but again needed salt. We were seated, given menus and waitress took our drink orders in a timely manner but we would not see our waitress again. We waited and waited and waited. Historically, Chinese food in Williamsburg has never been authentic. I like Peking as much as the next guy, but it's refreshing to visit a restaurant serving food resembling something you might actually find in China, or at least Chinatown, NYC. Some of the dishes are pretty exotic, but the menu is varied so if you're not looking for an adventure you'll still be able to find something to your taste. The most telling thing about the quality of the food is how often my family spots the owners of other Chinese restaurants dining here. As others have said, the service here is mediocre so don't expect to be treated like a king. The service has improved over my visits though, and hopefully will continue to. I hope Peter Chang's succeeds, it's probably the best Chinese food I've had in Hampton Roads. read more

The food was ok at best. Reminded me of a bigger sit down Chinese restaurant. I ordered the General Tso's chicken and it was just ok. Nothing to write home about. I would go again, but it would have to be long enough to where I forgot what the food was like. The service was prompt but not very personable. The spring rolls were nothing fantastic. One of our favorite Chinese restaurants, period. I let our 8 year old pick and she picked a winner in Peter Chang's. We had the sweet and sour chicken (excellent), chicken lo mein, and seafood in stone pot (in an awesome curry sauce). Our 5 year old even loved the curry. Still pretty frustrated after my most recent dinning experience. I ordered the chicken with mushrooms and when the waitress asked me what kind of rice I wanted on the side, I said chicken fried rice. The waitress ended up bring me an entire entrée of chicken fried rice, my chicken meal, and a side of white rice. When I told her all I wanted was a side of the fried rice, she just took away the white rice and then charged me $30 for the dinner....... if there had been a different between the fried rice and chicken fried rice she should have asked me to clarify and not assume I wanted another entire meal??? A steak dinner costs $30, not rice, mushrooms and chicken... it was good but NOT $30 good. Also, if you have a sea food allergy you can't order any fried food which is half of the menu. read more
