This review is to call out a very special and amazing, employee - Hannah. Hannah is the most professional and courteous employee I've ever come across in my life and I say this without any exaggeration. Long story short, I've had trouble with multiple accounts linked to my phone number and despite numerous attempts to fix this with the dedicated support number it's never been fixed. I made mention of this to Hannah- she called support for me and in a matter of minutes had my accounts linked and my points available to use. I've mentioned this exact issue to no less than 10 or more employees ln the last at multiple Petco locations, as this problem occurs every single time I check out. The response has always been, please call the number on the receipt and they're the only ones who can help. Hannah is truly extraordinary in her ability to problem solve, our the customer first, and do the right thing all without any coaching from anyone else. I wish there was a way to clone her exactly and put her at every store. To the store manager Naz, you have an incredible employee and I imagine this also is attributed to the standard you teach your employees to operate by. Last Saturday, I realized that I had not saved enough dog food to switch my pups to another brand. I made this discovery about 8 pm and decided to just keep them on the same food for another round. Got to Petco on Winchester around 8:30 pm. After perusing the isles for a good 20 minutes and coming up empty, I went towards the register. There stood two female employees in an animated conversation. One made eye contact with me, then continued to talk. The other pretended that her peripheral vision was on the fritz and also remained engaged in the convo. Mind you, there was only one other couple in the entire store. I stood there awhile wondering. Are they ignoring me because I'm rich in melanin or because it was five minutes to closing (after searching alone in a practically empty store)? You'd thing they would want to help and get me out of there. Whatever the reason, I decided Petco obviously was disinterested in my money. Just as I was about to exit, Petco Rep, Michael, graciously asked if I needed help. Michael not only assisted in finding a new alternative brand (they were out of the one I wanted); but also gave tips on how to make the transition easier on my paw-babies. He may as well have worn a cape! Michael gets a medal and the other two can have the snicklefritz. read more

After asking 2 different employees for help with cat food and getting no one who knew how to help and no employee coming to the cat food dept to help me I called the store on my phone and requested help and finally got what I came to the store for. It's close, it's convenient, and it *almost* always has everything I need for our menagerie at home. With three dogs, two cats, and a fish, we usually have a long list of pet supplies to pick up and Petco always does the trick. I actually like this store more than most Petco's for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is their cat adoption center. Several Petco's have very small areas for cat adoptions and no means to meet them face to face but, this Petco has a designated room behind the cats that allows patrons to go meet them more closely and even bring them out of their cages. It's a great way to ensure adoptees are well matched for their adopters. (Pets aren't products. Adopt.) Unlike other Petco stores, they also have a wider variety of adoptions available in-house. In addition to the felines, they host a dog adoption event every Saturday in coordination with Animal Friends of the Valley. They also have a bunny hutch that houses 2-3 adoptable lagomorphs. They have budgerigars ("parakeet" for the laymen), naked guinea pigs, regular guinea pigs, rats, mice, hamsters, parrots, and even chinchillas!! Sometimes, I find myself there just to see all the cute and cuddly chordata. Oh! And the reptile section is fantastic! Snakes of several varieties, chameleons, iguanas, bearded dragons, leopard geckos, turtles AND tortoises, frogs...they cover all the bases. The only thing I see at other Petco stores that this one may not have are saltwater fish. I don't meddle in that area - too intensive for my lifestyle - so, I could be wrong but, I don't recall if they have a saltwater section. Their betta selection, however, is phenomenal and their fish are, for the most part, very healthy and alert. All in all, this is a good pet store: well stocked, always clean, brightly lit, easily navigated, and the staff is always ready and willing to answer any and all questions a customer may have about their products. They even seem to pay attention to who is doing what! The dog person KNOWS dogs. The cat person KNOWS cats. The fish person KNOWS fish. Such a relief to get reliable, accurate advice. This review is for the grooming salon. We have experienced other petco grooming salons in the past, and the Temecula one steals the show. Regardless of petco location, their end result (a clean and good looking dog) is pretty comparable. I've never been disappointed. But the Temecula petco salon is spectacular. A very friendly, knowledgeable staff. Also an open, stress free environment. Other petcos we've been to have tiny check in desks, and a rushed feel, which cause my pretty chill dogs a bit of anxiety. Not here. The groomers come out to the open space to meet the dog and build rapport. (As opposed to some stranger immediately pulling them back into tight kennels) Both groomers have an obvious love for animals which put my mind at ease as my two dogs happily went to the back with them after a few minutes of petting. I find that the prices are very fair for the amount of time they spend grooming. A bonus, they even were successful at clipping my dogs nails, which has never happened at any other petco location. After countless bad experiences here, I have come to the conclusion that this is one of those places where the employees are actually intentionally trying to disrespect you. The workers are very passive aggressive, hate their jobs, and hate the customers. They attempt to "test you" and see what they can get away with. Don't be surprised if you get hit with some kind of insulting comment done in a very weaselly/passive-aggressive way. There is NEVER anyone at the cash register. And usually when an employee sees you, they just walk away without saying anything. If you ask for help they will scream: "give me a second! I am busy!" in a very angry tone and give you a dirty look. Usually about 15-30 minutes later you will finally get some service after asking again. Many times you will find the workers having conversations with personal friends who come in to visit. If you try to ask for help while they are talking to their friends, they will always claim that their friend is a customer....but, the conversations will always be non-Petco related, such as: "Hey did you watch Glee last night?", or "That cop took my weed away even though I showed him my medical marijuana license!" I am surprised the pets don't all just die off due to starvation and unclean living conditions... read more

I like the new remodel. It's very modern and clean. I have used their grooming and vet clinic for my babies. Some items are extremely over priced. However, it's a good to go place for all your needs. They have a do it yourself grooming section where they offer large bathtubs/sinks for large dog owners who would like to wash their own dogs. It's $10. I haven't tried it but I have used their grooming service for my babies. They are nice and reasonable. However, they did make one of my babies bleed once when they cut his nails too short. When I brought it to their attention upon pick up, they didn't apologize but took him back in there for over 10 min trying to make his paw from bleeding. Not a great experience. Ugh read more

I brought in my 130+ pound great pyrenees in to get groomed recently. He loves protecting our ranch so looks do not matter to him, but he was starting to look like a huge dread lock. Bobbie helped us right away and remembered him from his last grooming. She did a great job! When I picked him up he looked like a new boy! His mats were gone without it looking like he was butchered. I've been here twice to get dog licenses and waiting in line on a Sat. morning is actually easier than going to animal control. Besides, if you live in certain zip codes in Temecula, registering your pooch with Animal Friends of the Valley is the way to go. Petco has vaccination clinics and it's very popular, plus I've met some neat people in line waiting for them to open. They also have pet adoption events which are fun. Inside the store it is the nicest Petco I've ever been in. I got help when I was looking for ID Tag blanks for the engraving machine by a helpful employee, and the price was fair considering I could custom engrave a real metal tag in just a few minutes. The very next day my dog escaped the yard and we got him back because our phone number was on the tag I had made at Petco. read more

Took my dog grooming for the first time today. The groomer was really sweet and tried to figure out how I wanted my dog's hair cut. But there was another lady (I didn't get her name but she had lots of earrings). Anywho... she just seemed like she didn't have great customer service. Like she had a smile on her face but she was being rude to me at the same time. When I first arrived the girl with all the earrings greeted me but then ignored me, never told me I was waiting for my groomer. She was taking other customers and I felt offended. Then my groomer came out. She was really sweet and used a white board so I could understand what she was asking since she was deaf. I appreciated her attention to detail. So I went to pick up my dog & her face was not cut as short as I would have liked. So I mentioned it... Usually I go to petsmart and they fix anything you don't like. The girl with all the earrings told me that it was the best they could do because she was really wiggly. She said they were really busy today and so it was overwhelming for all the dogs-- a lot had anxiety. But she did not offer for me to come another day and have her face fixed. It was $57 so I would have thought they would have better customer service. Will not be coming here again and I don't recommend it to others. read more

Where do I even start? I have never had a bad experience at this Petco. I will start with the groomers. Every time I bring my dogs into this Petco I am treated like a regular. They are all polite and helpful. They are great with my older dog who is a little more nervous then the younger one because she was attacked as a puppy. The employees are really patient and sweet with her. She is also a short haired dog so I had never experienced a actual hair cut. Then I went out and adopted a Cockapoo. That is a whole new experience and they did an amazing job cutting his hair and cleaning him up from the shelter. I would not bring my dogs to any other groomer because I have always had great experiences with the employees of the Temecula Petco Groomers. I would also like to point out that most of these reviews are for the Murrieta Petco. I think people should start checking the addresses before they begin giving negative reviews about a business. As far as the actual store inside, every person that works there has been friendly, helpful, and even funny. I have needed help for things as far as digestion, vitamins fleas and ticks, toys for the puppy, and different types of food. They were all knowledgable and friendly when helping me. Hey, it's where the pets go! And also where the people with way too many cats go to shop for the necessities that accompany being a crazy cat man. Most of the petcos I've been to have been the same, with the only real difference being the staff that separates the good from the bad. Well let me say that this staff is very pleasant and polite on EVERY visit. One of my cats has a bit of a weight issue, but shhhh we don't talk about it. They had one set of pet stairs left but they had been returned. I asked the associate if there was any wiggle room on the price due to the nature of the packaging and the fact that they had already been found undesirable by another shopper. Without any hassle at all, she looked at the box, and said how about 10 percent off? Heck, that covers tax and a little more, so I didn't see the need to push for anything further. They always have the ridiculous food we have to feed them in stock, and the lines aren't ever that long. I try to go by myself because they have one of those adoption centers right when you walk in the door, and I'm afraid that if I ever take my wife, we'll walk out with cat number 4. read more

I'm surprised by the bad reviews. I've always had good experiences here. The prices and selection I find are better than Petsmart for some products, especially dog kennels/carriers. On that topic, however, I have to say I had a less than stellar experience. I wanted a kennel that was on the top shelf, so I needed help to get it down. I asked someone for help and she said "I'll page someone for you." Sure enough, she paged someone but after 5-10 mins of waiting... no one came. She spied me still waiting and helped me herself, so I give her credit for that. What about the staff member that was supposed to come, though? Overall, I'm mostly satisfied with their prices and service, so I'll be back. read more

Wow! A year ago, I got a new dog, an old English bulldog named Bella. As she grew, quickly to 70 pounds, I knew I needed to get her some type of training. Other people had recommended a shock collar. I went to PETCO in the late summer of 2018 and asked for help about picking a good shock collar for training. Nick the Petco dog trainer came over to help us. He made the case that shock collars should be the last step and that we should try pet training. I really thought he we go, sells pitch. Surprisingly the cost was the same as a shock collar and PETCO was giving a rebate in Pet rewards for signing up. I think it was something like 50 dollars back which could be used to purchase other products in the store. We spent all of the rebates on treats for training which really helped out a lot. We signed up and gave it a try. WOW! From the first training day Bella learned simple commands. Sit and come. I was so amazed from just one hour of training how much Bella and I learned. We continued the training, 3 full training classes in all, 18 weeks! Even when we could not make a training day, Nick made arrangements to catch us up and keep us on track. There were some days that Bella was just not into the training and I would get frustrated, Nick recognized this and helped me learn to refocus Bella in a positive manner and some times Nick would just step in and work with Bella on the commands to show me how dogs respond to different tones and mannerisms. I learned as much as Bella did from Nick. Bella has recently graduated as a Canine Good Citizen (CGC). Bella is able to sit and lie down on command. Bella is able to sit by myside and allow a stranger approach and with permission pet her, all while staying in place and not jumping on people. Bella can lay down and stay in a position until called, she can walk pass other dogs and groups of people without getting distracted and pulling on the leash causing a tug-war with her. We really practice all that Bella has learned on walks through the neighborhood and at the dog park. She is still a dog and gets a little crazy sometimes and I love that about Bella but as soon as I give her a command and refocus her, she settles right down. I truly cannot believe all of this came from just one hour, one day a week of training. Absolutely amazing and did not cost me a lot of money. I think in total allowing for the rebates on training that we received each time, I only spent about 300-400 dollars for all the training. Nick is awesome and I highly recommend anyone seeking training for their dog at any age go to PETCO and ask for Nick. Thanks Nick! read more

I purchased a harness for my new puppy this morning and it didn't fit, so I intended to replace it with a different brand from Petco. I couldn't find my receipt and the manager refused to let me exchange it without a receipt even though I showed him my credit card statement where the transaction was already recorded. Julie the groomer at the Temecula Petco on Winchester is EXCELLENT! Our Scruffy lived up to his name when we dropped him off and looks like a different dog now. The cost is comparable to other groomers in the area but Julie did a very thorough job. I'm planning on becoming a regular customer! ALSO ~ Sue the trainer at this Petco store is also excellent! Grooming dept: prices are affordable; we first brought our dobie in for puppy bath & trim: only $15. Staff is friendly, but especially ZORAN is great! Our now 1year old Dobie won't let us trim his nails and Zoran was able to trim and buff his nails for $15. Really happy and will definitely go back. read more

$10 for self dog wash is a good deal especially when you have two big dogs; those other places jack up the prices for larger dogs. This is the best place that we've used due to the varying heights of the 3 tubs: ~2ft, 3ft, 4ft. My 75 lb terrified dog was lifted into the 2ft. Mt 90lb elderly dog could get into the 3ft one. Not easy, but it was better than other places with steps and ramps up to the 4fter. Being a little lower, it was just right for reaching both sides of the dog. There is no time limit like other places I've been to. The dryer was powerful! Yes, I agree, it was filthy and the shampoo was watered down, but, for me, the pros outweighed the cons. read more

We've been to this Petco location quite a few times lately and had a great experience with Max. He was very informative, knowledgeable, professional and kind. I wish there were more Max's at this location, because the experience we had today was quite the opposite. Ben was extremely rude. We were planning on buying a hamster and my 12 year old son was gently tapping on the glass to try and get the hamsters attention and he rudely told my son "Please do not to tap on the window". He did say "please" but his tone was very rude. I would've been ok with it if he was nice about it, but he wasn't. When I called him on it, he had the nerve to tell me it was common sense and when I responded that it wasn't, he argued again, that it was, and asked me how I'd like it if I was living in a glass tank and someone was hitting the window. It's really not common sense to a child who knows nothing about hamsters. It was just very condescending and not something you tell a customer. The kid had no social skills and definitely no customer service skills. read more

This is a really great Petco, and one of the better ones that I've been to. The store is clean and organized, and the employees are friendly. They are always willing to assist you, and will answer any questions that you might have. It is clear that they genuinely love animals and their jobs. I primarily come here for fish, and I find the selection to be pretty good. However, I have noticed that many of the fish they sell are out of stock for long periods of time. Pet supplies in general at Petco is overpriced, so I would buy most of that from Amazon if possible. I do wish Petco would take better care of their frogs though. The set-ups they have just aren't appropriate for the dart frogs that they sell. The employees really do try their best to care for the animals, but this is probably something not in their control, as corporate probably tells them what the set-ups should be like. Overall, this is a nice, clean Petco with well-intentioned employees. read more

Walked around the store trying to find someone to let them know the guinea pig is seizing and who knows how long it had been seizing for. All the bedding was around it and it looked like it had been lateral for awhile. I informed someone and they left to get a box and one of the workers just grabbed him and walked away.
