I actually went to pet for grooming, which is an extremely bad decision I made. I drop my 1 year old toy poodle and after about 15 mins from the extremely rude and unprofessional groomer saying the dog is too hyper and they can not do the job. What?!! I have nothing negative to say about Petco. The best thing about Petco is they let you bring in your dog! Score! I bring in Duke, a beautiful red Doberman, and let him pick out the treats he wants. He is still young, a little of the wild and rambunctious side, but the staff is tolerant and never give me flack for it. Plus, they give him a treat just for showing up:) read more

My biggest mistake! I took my little maltese who needed a bath and some brushing and i even paid extra for longer brushing and dematting him! BUT I ended up with a bold damaged dog! Not just they shaved my dog they also nipped him under his arms and he came come bleeding in the car until noticed. I called them furiously and they told me to go to vet.! yeah i will,. but come on how come you cant tell me "i''m sorry we had an accident and here we cleaned and wrapped him" i understand it's a dog and they move. I think these people use owners care and love just to suck more money out of them. Yeah and they succeeded. Now I have to buy 10$ 10 sheet sublock wipes till he has hair now. Im so sorry for my dog. My dog doesn't like toys, so I don't get to buy any of the fun options petco has, but they do have a lot of stuff. I work at a veterinary office so I get my food and flea prevention and shampoo for cheap through them, but I go to petco for things like kong stuffing and doggie sweaters and training treats. Much cheaper than the pet house! read more

Poor customer service- everyone there is grouchy and condescending kids. The place is a mess- it's been a long time since I've gone in where it wasn't a maze of empty boxes and half broken-down pallets. Costco carries a lot more pet supplies now, so I will be shopping there in the future over this nightmare. read more

This five star review is for Yvonne who went over and beyond in customer service. After numerous trips to Petco to just buy the last box of fresh step unscented cat litter (20 lb box), I was about to give up and special order the item from Pet House, pay more but save myself the constant drive from from Goleta to Santa Barbara. Yvonne checked to make sure that there wasn't another box in storage, and when there wasn't gave me a discount on a similar litter to compensate for the inconvenience, and assured me that they will list the item as a green dot item so that they'll consistently order more. Thanks to Yvonne you still have me as a customer Petco. Thank you Yvonne for making my day less frustrating. read more

My wife and I took our dog to PETCO for a hair cut. After 5 hours of him being there hair cut was not done. He had to be taken to animal hospital because groomer at petco states she looked away for a second and dog was strangled by restraint in bath tube. His eye is now messed up and blood shot red and poping out farther then other one. Animal hospital confirms dog suffered strangulantion injuries. Our poor pet was only pre shaved in some places and did not get hair cut and suffered these injuries. He has to wear neck cone and we are up all night giving him eye drops and pain meds. I called corporate office and store manager and district manager have not even followed up with us. While at PETCO I wanted district managers phone number and a business card with info, they refused to give me anything in writing. Before I left I was talking to manager and groomer came over to argue her point of what happened. I had to tell her to pay attention to the dogs hair she was cutting because she left him alone to fall off table. WOW. DO NOT GO TO PETCO!!!! This review is for grooming only. I've had some really bad experiences with Petco grooming over the years. In the past 6 months they have really stepped up their game. I first brought my Australian Shepherd here a few months back and they did an amazing job. She got a beautiful puppy cut and her legs were hand trimmed and feathered perfectly. I also have a 1 year old Maltipoo that hates being groomed. I'm very hesitant on bringing him to different groomers because he gets so scared of the clippers and has bitten me while getting his hair trimmed. We've been working with a trainer on this but he still seems to hate getting his hair cut. I called at 10:30am and they had an available appointment at 11:30. I went in and dropped him off with Roxy and showed her a picture of how I like his hair. When I picked him up she said he was fine but he just cried the whole time. That is some big improvement for my little guy. I was really worried more for the groomers hands than for my pup. I was very grateful that Roxy took her time and had patience with my Maltipoo. This has been his best haircut and he seemed cheerful and happy upon pickup. I hate when they cut his hair like a poodle and Roxy did it just how I like it. At $49 that is probably the best bang for your buck! :) Make sure to ask for Roxy!! read more

DO NOT GO TO GET YOUR DOG GROOMED HERE ! We took our dog here the other day and the experience was beyond terrible. To begin the lady claimed she would not shave our dog and even clarified that over the phone but then when we went to pick up our dog she had been shaved not only that but before the groomer me walk in she was telling "f**k you" at my dog. When she saw me her yelling continued. Her customer service skills as well as her grooming skills are BEYOND horrible. Our dog is covered in patches of hair she totally forgot as well as patches where she had been shaved all the way down to her skin. On top of this when she couldn't find my dogs leash she blamed it on me and as I was leaving she threw it at me and said "here is you're "f**king leash lady". When we got in the car my dog was shaking after being yelled at, cussed out and brutally manhandled. This operation should not be able to stay in operation. read more

After scheduling my appointment I was told to bring my dog over, I was not told that I had to bring anything other than my dog. After driving 45 minutes to take her to the appointment I was told that her papers are required to receive grooming and that the lady must've forgot to tell me, thus wasting my gas and time. read more

I've been taking my little Maltepoo here for years, and it feels like a grooming boutique. They do a terrific job and I have never had a bad experience. For my needs, Woohoo! Don't take your dog to be groomed here if you care about them and if you don't have time to waste. Not once but twice had issues, won't be going back. I think some of the groomers care and try to be professional but they either are overwhelmed, expected to manage the salon when they don't have the skills, or sorely lacking in time management skills, or just don't care, dunno. Have taken my dog there three times. The first time was fine, although I did not think her nails were not trimmed short enough or at all. The second time, big delays, right after I dropped off my dog for her appointment I see the groomer go outside to smoke a cigarette - I am paying for her time IMO. She never calls me after a few hours to get my dog (my smaller dog just needed a shampoo, very easy job) so when I call 3 hours later she tells me my dog doesn't like the dryer so she's waiting. I say I have to come to get my dog don't bother. When I show up, she is blow-drying the dog, who is FINE, and I can tell her nails haven't been buffed when we get home and they are clanking on the floor. Also bad breathe continued so I imagine her glands were not expressed either. Third time, I book an appointment at 1:30pm. 3 1/2 hours later I get a text that says my appointment has been rescheduled to that evening. At this point my dog has been sitting around in that small area with loud barking and crying dogs for over 3 hours. She looked exhausted when pick her up and collapses when I get home. When I arrived to pick her up two very large dogs are barking completely out of control. The place is chaos. I felt sorry a little for the groomers who looked exhausted, but they need to tell management when this is going on. Or at least call me after 3 hours and say, sorry we haven't gotten to your dog. What do they think people can just wait around til they get to it? Offered me a "deep discount" next time - which there won't be - as I picked my frazzled dog up uncleaned. They should have comped the next grooming for wasting my time and putting my dog through that. This kind of mismanagement is NOT FAIR TO THE ANIMALS! Shame on Petco. read more

Everytime I go to this petco I get terrible customer service. Yesterday I called and asked if they had any dog strollers in stock because my dog has a collapsed trachea and he can't take long walks but I would still like to take him places with me since he is member of our family. When I called this lady answered and I asked if they had strollers and she laughed and was like "ugh no haha" and hangs up. I go in after work to pick up some food and I walk by the carrier section just to make sure and what do I see? The had TWO strollers in stock. The girl that answered my call didn't even bother to check if they had the item in stock. Terrible customer service. read more

Yikes! I DO NOT recommend the grooming salon at this location. I just took my dog in for a nail trim/grind yesterday afternoon (first time at this location). Typically, I meander around the store while the stylist does their thing. For whatever reason, I decided to stay in the grooming area this time. I'm so glad I did! I couldn't believe what I saw. The stylist had another dog secured to the wall, while she trimmed my dog's nails. The other dogs leash/lead was long enough that it could (and did!) reach the table my dog was standing on. This dog was literally jumping up on the table, barking (non stop) in my dog's face, as she's getting her nails trimmed. The groomer/stylist is literally just laughing, nonchalantly telling the other dog to stop. I watch this happen repeatedly (to see if the stylist is going to do something - which she doesn't) before I tell her my dog is going to snap at that dog if (s)he keeps doing that. Only after I say this, does the girl make the dog's leash shorter so it can't reach the table my dog is standing on. What trained professional (or anyone with common sense, really) would think this was a safe or acceptable situation? Are you kidding me? Let's make an already stressful situation for a dog even more stressful and potentially dangerous. Additionally, when I looked at my dog's nails afterwards, they were uneven, jagged and some looked like they hadn't even been cut. Oh, and she made one of the dew claws bleed (at least she told me. Then again, she kind of had to since I was standing there watching her.). Terrible experience all around. DO NOT recommend! read more

Jason the Groomer is back! We were crushed when he moved to LA last December because my dogs love him AND his grooms are beautiful! We were next door at Trader Joes the other day and popped into to Petco to check on the salon and there he was! We are relieved and look forward to resuming our grooming routine. I came into petco a few times a month to get a few things for my baby. I decided to go into the groomers side to make an appointment. I must of stood there for what seemed like an eternity before being acknowledged by a lady that came from the otherside. She was very pleasent and seemed to show concern for my needs while the other girls just made faces. I believe the girls name was Martha (I would give her the 5 stars). Petco needs to hire professional people and not kids that just graded from high school. And show them customer service. I have a few friends that have had really bad experiences with being charged for thing and not having them done and also as to how they talk to and handle their pets. They just maybe dogs to you but they are our family members. And no one wants to be given dirty looks. If your unhappy with your job, please look for something else read more

Been here a lot lately dealing with a new aquarium set up. I was given poor information about compatibility of cichlids and tank size/requirements. They were cool and returned the smaller tank and let me upgrade to the biggest one they had. That tank crashed and wouldn't completely cycle because of the sandstone rocks they said I could put in it. The aquatics specialist is super cool which is why I have given an extra star, and took my fish in a quarantine tank he set up but when I went back to get them he wasn't there and the guy who got them out of the tank thrashed them around and slammed the net against the glass, squishing then fish. He was rude and I asked if someone else could help me cause he clearly didn't care about the pets his customers were purchasing. The other girl came over and handled the "situation" politely but they both didn't know what they were doing. I requested to speak with they're manager and she told me they were the managers... this store rarely employ's people who know what they are doing and selling and claim to be a specialty type store. If I could go back and start this process over I would of gone to a specialty aquarium store in Ventura and saved a lot of time and not had to deal with anything extra. read more

We took our labradoodle there the other day because we had become dissolutioned with our previous groomer. Ashley was the groomer at Petco, she did the exact cut we wanted, was quick and efficient as well as friendly and very sweet with our dog. We will take her back. read more

HELP! Second hamster dead in less than a week! Two weeks ago I went to petco & bought an adorable teddy bear hamster, they said two months old. I also bought a large aquarium, kaybee fiesta gourmet hamster food, millet spray, a water bottle, natural bedding a dish wheel, a little cave bed, all set. I got him home & he was darling. He was curious, friendly and seemed very healthy. By day two stopped eating and getting up then was dead within a week. I was so confused & furious. Im an adult lifetime pet owner, not a rookie, this just made no sense. I went back with him and got another, same kind, same age but switched out for the same food they were giving him & a different more natural bedding, I sterilized everything and now he's done exactly the same thing, first two nights up & eating and on the wheel and then within a week dead. Its heart breaking & very disconcerting. No signs of wet tail. The aquarium is in my kitchen, peaceful warm home. WHATS GOING ON?!?! they say "oh this happens" really? read more

The two complaints I have about this store is that 1) they never have enough shopping carts! I have complained about this many times. Once, I didn't see a single cart and asked the checkout clerk. Her answer was that "someone stole them." This required me to bring the heavy cat litter and food armload by armload to the checkout area. No one offered to help me take my items to checkout. The last time I was there they had a few banged up shopping carts from other stores, and 2) there are boxes and boxes of unpacked pet items littering the narrow aisles. This makes it difficult to navigate through an aisle, and sometimes requires I move their boxes out of the way, or go back down the aisle and approach the aisle I want from the other side. read more

This store is ALWAYS out of Nature's Miracle Cat Litter. I've been trying to buy some for three weeks. My litters need changed! The other store doesn't have any in stock either. The product isn't sold anywhere else around and I don't want to switch litter formulas after seven years! I've heard some other complaints too when there looking for it. I know it is more of a corproate thing, but I've emailed them twice to complain. If I have to switch the cats onto different littler, I will go to an independent store and never go to Petco again. The ordering/replenishment process needs redesigned. It doesn't work. You are not keeping up with demand, and cat litter is probably the hardest thing to change for most cats. read more

While not the best customer service, the prices are some of the cheapest in town. They have a good selection and their online website has even more items. They often offer free shipping and discounts if you purchase items monthly (Like kitty litter) Overall this is were I get all my pet supplies. The Pals program is a nice addition also. read more

I just took my dogs to petco and had them groomed. First they told me my dogs where to old even though have I been taking them there for years, but they would groom them this time. They where suppose to clip the claws, which they only cilpped one or 2 claws. I had to take to another grommer(not petco) to finish the job. Thier belly trims where poorly done and the staff in the gromming department seems bored to death. I am finished with petco, poor service and poor workmanship. read more

Overall, this is a great Petco. There's better places to take your dog to get groomed, but this place is just fine to run in and get some food, toys, brushes, combs, etc. The people who work there seem cool and it's always been clean when I've been there.
