I gave this place two chances I said look maybe the employees who assisted me just really weren't happy working there. but last time I went in (I did miss my pet appt by 11 minites inderstood) but the way I was talked to with such attitude by the guy and the other two employees staring at me like "yes the vet left " again with such rude tone . I felt like I interrupted their whole gossip conversation. Very rude and unprofessional, as a person who has worked in sales 10+ years I would never take my business there to that particular pet co. I really feel the way you treat people matters and They don't care for customer service . Doesn't take much energy to have respect for people. I'm a regular fish supplies shopper at this store. But this time my mom and I stepped out of the store with an uncomfortable and upsetting feeling from a white girl at the fishes area. (obviously racist) Today I stepped in with my mom looking for some supplies for my fishes.. We were wandering by the fishes area looking to find what we needed, we saw a white girl worker there but she didn't even hesitate to ask if we need something. I was talking in Spanish to my mom because she doesn't speak English, and I mean, that's wouldn't be an impediment to have helped us if I already asked her some questions before. At the moment we were on line to pay, she was attending a white guy, but at that time we paid, other person attended us. The second time we came back to get 3 fishes she was the one who attend us to get them. Once I had chosen my fishes she only took the bag with the fishes and headed straight to the counter without saying any word like "do you need anything else?, or can you follow me to the counter." My mom and I were confused, when we headed the counter she was the one who attended us at the counter this time. And the thing is... you know what was the difference between the white guy who she attended first and us? She was completely indifferent to us, she did not even said a single word to us except for asking me my phone number and that's it. Instead, she was using her phone and giving us her back, and nothing like "it will be with cash or card?" Unlike, with the white guy she had greeted to and was so nice to him. When we left I didn't say anything but mom noticed it and told me that I shouldn't come back to buy at this store again. This country is already messed up to Latin people lives with the government that their citizens chose, (not everyone) and you go out and make others feel worthless. Yikes petco, I know you care about the pets welfare, but remember that your customers are the ones who look for them. Watch out for the workers you hire. read more

Horrible experience trying to buy a Hamster. Apparently they sell cages that aren't suitable to bring the hamsters home in. So we drove over an hour to get a hamster and the girl with the glasses at the front desk would not let us take one home even though we have a bigger cage being delivered. (Yet 2 of them are in a TINY enclosed glass box for display) Not sure what kind of store or employees this place has but don't waste your time or money. After one of the employees told him that the grooming department would be ready to take my dog in 10 minutes when the appointment was at 8:00 but they had lights off. PETCO needs to hire qualified groomers that have the ability to handle dogs with varying personalities. And if they can't, they should assess the situation prior to taking on a task that exceeds their qualifications. My dog is almost 4 years old. He's a he's a feisty blue heeler/Chihuahua mix. He has been getting groomed since he was a puppy. I specifically went to Petco to have his nails clipped and for deshedding. We were way overdue for both services and I thought it would be fast and convenient to take him to the local Petco. What a mistake! The groomer could not perform the service. Mind you, my dog has had the services performed regularly for nearly four years. I would say having gone to Petco was a mere waste of my time and a waste of $40. And furthermore, I would have to say that the groomer is not qualified if she cannot handle the task that has been taken on by many groomers prior to her. She would try to tell you that the dog was aggressive and would've tried to bite her. I would respond with; if you're afraid of dogs and allow them to show you whose boss then you shouldn't be a groomer. Petco get qualified groomers!!!! read more

Not happy after looking at my already processed order to find out that besides the $7.00 delivery fee there was a $4.40 tip that I did not add. So because I couldn't carry a 30 pound container of kitty litter up the stairs, it cost me $ $11.50 to get it delivered!! Reviewing my order I learned that the button for a 20 % tip is ALREADY checked on every order, so if you do not notice and uncheck it, you pay a tip whether you wanted to or not.. This Petco has wonderful staff. They love animals and always friendly. The whole store looks like a hurricane rolled through town and no one bothered to put anything back where it was. I don't have OCD but I think anyone with even a moderate case would lose it. Dated, old, drab--but a large store with an outstanding selection of boutique pet foods. My kitty was on Rx food for a PTSD-related urinary problem. He is fine now and I'm beginning to branch out to other foods. He is IN LOVE with Weruva (the "hydrating puree" chicken). I ordered from Chewy, but there have to be 20 brands total here. This used to be a Crown Books years ago and it's still funny to me that the store sells pet food and litter. read more

Typical big clean Petco. I stopped in last weekend and the staff that helped me were all very friendly and showed honest concern for the live animals they have for sale. I would not say they went above and beyond, but they were polite, professional and compassionate. I overheard a customer haggling with an employee and she was also very courteous the whole time and did her best to accommodate his requests. The line was short and check-out went quickly. Went in to get dog and cat food - place was a shambles- there were several large transport units left at various places around the store and blocking aisles. I looked both outside and in for a cart as I knew my order was going to be heavy but saw none. There were at least two carts in the store filled with product waiting to be shelved. As I could not locate a shopping cart that was unoccupied by stock, I heaved a 15 pound bag of cat food over my shoulder and drag-lifted a thirty-five puns bad of dog food to the front. I mentioned to the cashier that there didn't seem to be any carts but that several appeared to be in use by the store with stock in them - she seemed bored, uninterested, and uncaring (7/18/22 at 5:00 pm) she shrugged and said that they get stolen. I then heaved the cat food over my shoulder and drag-lifted the dog food out the door. She didn't apologize, she didn't offer to get me help, she didn't offer to let me leave a bag in the store and take two trips...she just let a middle aged/old woman struggle with a load of items that was obviously too heavy to be managed without a cart. This is a Long review! Been to the SB Petco numerous times with no problems at all over the past 5 years. Wow, today was a complete S Show. Placed an order online, ordered cancelled due to not being in stock, I stopped by the store as I was in the area and the item was in stock behind a locked glass case, no worries, got some help but the key to the cabinet was with the manager who was off (handy right?) I went back later in the evening and they had the key, I waited to purchase at the register for about a good 5 minutes before any staff decided to show up. The cashier went and helped two other parties in another cash register before asking if we were being helped, I said no, that's why we are standing here at this cash register waiting to be helped, the cashier then proceeded to help more customers! I love this store!!! No only for everything they have for pets but for the quality of people they hire I don't know if there's any other being I love more than Harper a dog I consider almost mine. I've taken her to get treatments for hot spots and products for hygiene and every single person I've talked to has been so kind and patient. They make me feel safe about what I'm getting for Harper and 99% of the time it works because... They know what they talk about. The best of all here is their grooming department. I take Harper every time I can and Sara is so AMAZING to Harper. So much so I can see her excitement when I'm about to drop her off to be groomed by her. Petco is one of my go-to spots when it comes to supplies for my own pets. The location is very central, with easy freeway access and a prominent shopping center presence. They offer dog grooming services (unfortunately, my cat doesn't make the cut) along with a decent selection of fish and other small critters for rehoming. I appreciate how the store is typically stocked very well, and enjoy its overall cleanliness - especially considering pets walk through the place daily. The checkout lines aren't the store's strongest suit and I find myself waiting in a long queue nearly every time. That being said, I feel that the customer service is exceptional. I'd like to give a shout out to Laurie, the sales associate, who consistently goes above and beyond to help me out. You don't always see employees with her level of passion at Petcos, so I truly appreciate the service she gives! Love This Store! My family and I always go to this store whenever we need Pet products or animals. I purchased 2 birds for my grandpa couple months ago or so and nice team member or i believe manager Lauren was so helpful and giving me advice on the pet. She gave nothing else but great service. I just bought 2 more birds again recently & remembered me and my story on giving the other birds to my grandpa and whatnot. She may have had some trouble catching the birds but it was all laughs and quick friendly service. read more

This was our dogs first groomer 4 years ago. Many ups and downs with this location. I always went back because MOST of the grooming staff was friendly and did an OK job. That being said they have a huge revolving door of no staff or new staff. Yesterday we had a bathing appointment. Our little guy has eczema and allergies so he's always itchy and rashy. Currently his ears were rashy. I let the new girl know that and she looked at him. Then she called in the store manager. He and the new girl were going back and forth saying his ears were probably infected and asking me why didn't I have him on allergy shots shooting dirty looks my way. Basically they were trying to shame me when they didn't even understand his situation. they asked if it was my first time there, I explained we had rarely gone elsewhere in four years and his condition is well documented on his account there. The groomers are ok. We always visit here for teeth brushing, nail trims and nail buffing as I have vital care. The reason I am giving two stars is because of the cashier. Every time I use my vital care and pals rewards it seems like they are not fully trained how to use it. I was told that I am not supposed to pay anything out of pocket as I have pals rewards that I can use but I always end up paying out of pocket as they don't really know how it works. The first and last time it worked was when the supervisor or manager was there. It's just frustrating every time as my pals rewards are just going to expire because they don't know how to apply it with vital care services. read more

I was there yesterday and it was the most uncomfortable situation!! A young girl was working the register with a long line. Customers kept going up and asking her where something was and she was doing her best to help them all. Finally she called someone from the back to help & the girl from the back came out yelling aggressively at the register girl in front of all of us. It was like a scene from Jerry Springer show. I had my grand children with me, I feel so bad for not checking on the cash register girl, I have seen her there for years and she has always been so sweet, helpful and appears always to be the only one working hard & always putting things away. There is stuff all over the floor in the isles, I'm surprised no one has been hurt there. If I didn't have the kids with me, I would have stepped in -but to see someone so irrational yelling like that, I felt it was probably safer not to. I don't even want to go back to that store. Unfortunately after leaving there yesterday I did not find other Petco's stores here in SB. I hope you didn't quit Nikki & I'm sorry for not trying to help. Other customers were just as disgusted as I was. I hope they all call corporate like they said they would. I put down my bags of dog food and left.
