Before I found them, I tried other groomers in town with Coco Bear and she would be there all day, where as SB Paws and Claws usually have everything done in under two hours. I recently brought in our new rescue, Pepper who we were told is a poodle, yorkie and maltese mix. It was her first haircut and they were so wonderful, updating me throughout the appointment to let me know how Pepper was doing as I was a little nervous her being away from me for the first time. They did a wonderful job of course, and it is clear that they really care about the pets that they work with!

The whole place was spotless and felt happy. This was Penelope's first grooming experience and I couldn't have asked for a better one. She's never liked baths, and I didn't know how she would react to having her hair cut especially since it had to go down pretty short.. But when I got there to pick her up, she was calm and just her normal excitement to see me. Not afraid to be there at all. Our trainer, Kelly was thorough and very knowledgeable. Going in, my puppy was very energetic, jumpy and all over the place. By the time we were done with our individualized classes, I felt so much more confident in my ability to care for him and keep him safe and felt like I was in so much more control. My puppy was super excited as soon as we turned into the parking lot each time, he loved Kelly and enjoyed the PAL program. I still continue to take him to PAL for their half day socialization when I can! I love knowing that the play time is supervised and they'll do what's necessary to ensure proper socialization! I moved from Colorado to Santa Barbara on January 5th and by January 20th I was working a full-time (plus) job. I think the adjustment has been pretty stressful for my dog, Bailey, who had gotten used to having free roam of a large house AND access to the backyard via doggy door. Bailey is also fear-aggressive, something which leads me to be rather particular in choosing care takers for her. Britta has been very professional and responsive from the beginning (having sensed my.... anxiety, and realizing the urgency of my situation, she called me right away after receiving my request for a quote via yelp.) She has always impressed me with her attentiveness to details and all the little ways she demonstrates how much she truly cares for my lil mutt!!!! There are a couple of things that stand out to me that I LOVE..... she always takes time to send me an update of her visits, sometimes short, sometimes a little longer, sometimes even with pictures :) She lets me know if there were any issues and even if everything went totally smooth. (A few days ago she even used my carpet shampooer to clean up a little surprise Bailey had left and included that in her update, letting me know not to be concerned about the wet carpet) she also always takes the extra time to chat with me about Bailey. We usually chat about any issues I'm having with Bailey, (for example, I've been having some bark issues lately) special visit instructions, or any other particulars, and she's always able to offer thoughtful advice/solutions/resources. Since I am new to town, it is WONDERFUL to get recommendations for reliable, responsible dog related services (i.e., groomer, vet, trainer, etc) from someone with a similar mindset about caring for a pet. I'm certain that Bailey is benefiting from her visits and I know that it gives me peace of mind as well. I've been recommending her services to friends and co-workers, but thought I ought to make an official yelp review to thank her!

I sit here on my couch after doing my own morning training session with both dogs and I am in…read moretears. I cannot begin to explain the amount of relief from anxiety training my dogs with Ricky has brought me. No amount of therapy could touch how I felt previously. I have learned patience, clear communication (with my dogs), and appreciation of the minds ability to change after years and years of ingrained unwanted behaviors. Ricky does not sell a one size fits all package - each of my dogs are VERY different, and while the fundamental approaches and concepts in training are the same - the method and timing in which we applied and reinforced these were vastly different. Ricky is able to connect with two leggers and four leggers alike - he gives clear feedback to dogs and human and uses metaphors that we humans understand (driving the speed limit and getting speeding tickets haha) on how the concepts of his approach effects dog behavior. I couldn't be happier. I am humble and I know I need to continue management (and one of my dogs I am holding to higher standard so we are going to continue our own sessions based on what I have learned) but my dogs are completely different. I'm getting complimented by family, friends, and people on walks - impressed with how well behaved my dogs are. I smile and tell them "thank you it's lots of continued hard work" and move along. This morning in particular we walked during trash pick up, had lots of people distractions, and both dogs stayed heeled and attentive to me on their separate walks. Do not hesitate to consider Ricky for your training needs. Also, if you feel alone with your dogs behavior - please know you are anything but alone. The fact you are looking at reviews for dog trainers is a clear indicator that you want the best for your dog and intend to give them them best. :)
