This was a wonderful investment for me as a first time dog owner. I did the AKC STAR puppy classes which came with 6 private lessons and 2 half day PAL socialization sessions. Our trainer, Kelly was thorough and very knowledgeable. Going in, my puppy was very energetic, jumpy and all over the place. By the time we were done with our individualized classes, I felt so much more confident in my ability to care for him and keep him safe and felt like I was in so much more control. My puppy was super excited as soon as we turned into the parking lot each time, he loved Kelly and enjoyed the PAL program. I still continue to take him to PAL for their half day socialization when I can! I love knowing that the play time is supervised and they'll do what's necessary to ensure proper socialization! This is quite possibly the best money we have EVER spent. This review is dedicated to all five people in Santa Barbara living on a budget, haha. Our one-year old retriever puppy was super destructive despite his heart of gold. We held out on training for so long because we didn't feel we could afford it. Finally, after two hospital visits (both from the puppy eating things he shouldn't have), we realized we could either spend the money on vet bills and replacing broken items OR we could invest in a well-behaved pup. After four weeks day training at K-Nine, our dog is almost unrecognizable; all of the good, none of the bad. He's almost entirely stopped jumping and counter surfing. He sits in place while we're cooking and eating. He has amazing recall off-leash at the beach. It's incredible. To Adam, Eric and everyone at K-Nine who helped us with Pismo, thank you. We are grateful. And if you are considering training at K-Nine, we highly recommend Adam. I was intimidated by him at first -- he's approximately 6'10 with a military background -- but I'm pretty sure that's part of what makes him a dog whisperer, haha. Dogs know he means business!!!! I am a first-time dog owner. Sherlock came into my life a bit unexpectedly. Within the first week, I realized that both Shelly and I needed some training. I still remember how flustered and stressed out I was when I went to K-nine for the first time. After the first consult, I was already thinking "ok, this is not as scary as it seems, we can figure this out". Sherlock and I went through the 8 class basic training with Karina. I can't say enough good things about her. Karina is AWESOME! First of all, I want to say that this was most definitely more of training for ME than for the pup. Sherlock picks up commands very quickly but then has a tendency to "negotiate" with me about how much of the command he really needs to complete. Karina picked up on this fact right away and worked with me to be persistent and patient with my pup. Karina actually listened to me and gave me useful advice. There were days when she politely underlined that my behavior had to be adjusted just as much as my pup's. I am very thankful for her criticism and guidance, it really helped me and my pup. Overall I totally recommend Karina! But I will say 2 things about the training program. First, the training is not cheap, but for me, it was worth it. I did appreciate the fact that Karina was flexible with scheduling and we completed our 8 classes over about 3 months which was the pace that worked for Sherlock and I. Second, I want to underline that this is a training for the owner as well as the dog, be prepared to work with your pup not just during classes but also at home. read more

K-Nine Solutions have continued to expand their business lines and have opened a new boarding facility in the Santa Ynez Valley that is excellent. A month ago I needed to board my German Shepherd for a week and was very worried about what his experience might be. The K-Nine Solutions Ranch is on CA-154, very easy to get to, and, if you want, they will pick up here in Santa Barbara. The people there are very cheerful, welcoming and knowledgeable. Auggie had a wonderful time there; while he was delighted to see me come to get him back, he was clearly a very contented and happy dog. I have perviously had unhappy experiences with unsatisfactory boarding facilities and those are always devastating. I would without hesitation use The Ranch again should the need arise. Meanwhile, Auggie and I continue to really enjoy the Saturday morning PackWalks. These are wonderful for continuing the training process while in the company of like minded canines and their people. I had previously posted a review of the excellent and most useful training sessions Auggie and I had with Eric and occasionally his colleagues. Eric and all of the trainers at K-Nine are truly the BEST! Henry graduated from his day-training program and my hope was that wherever we went together, I could count on Henry (with my consistent direction) to have good "manners!! The other day we went to the bank, a place that usually gets him amped up because he knows they have treats. There was a line and I had a few banking things to do so the errand was going to require Henry to be patient. The entire time Henry stayed at my side, sitting down or laying down when he figured the line wasn't moving. And this is what I couldn't believe: TWO (yes, TWO) different people came up to me and said, "What a beautiful dog! And he is so well-behaved! " One person said she wished her dog was so well-behaved and the other said she was going to tell her daughter about him! And both asked me where/who had trained him! And, remember I mentioned the bank treats? Well, when they asked me if my dog could have a treat, I said that yes, he could have a treat (he certainly deserved it!), but that he must sit nicely when they walked over to give him the treat. He was already doing that, but I knew the offer of the treat might distract his calm and relaxed demeanor. Well, except for a butt wiggle (and I think a bit of a butt wiggle is acceptable behavior), Henry once again demonstrated his new skills! The best part was that when we left the bank, and I told Henry just what a wonderful dog he was, I think he was really proud---he had a big smile on his face! I really believe Eric when he says that dogs are truly happier when they can just "chill out" (as Eric would say), knowing that someone else (me!) is taking care of everything! I'm a volunteer at the Santa Barbara County Animal Services. I've had dogs all my life. It never would have occurred to me to get dog training lessons, but I had recently adopted a dog that had been in the shelter for just over a year, and probably because of trust issues we had a hard time with simple training. Sit, stay, come. And no pulling on the leash was a biggie for me, because SHREK is 75 pounds of pure muscle. Exasperated, I stumbled upon K9 Solutions website. I knew within the first 10 minutes of my consultation with them that they were expert in their field. Within 10 minutes of my first training lesson they had a solution to him pulling on the leash. My greatest hope would be that I would be able to have SHREK off leash to run and play with other dogs. But because of his breed, I'd have to be extra careful. Not because he is aggressive, because he is not. But because if another dog started something with him, he is strong enough to shut it down, and then he'd likely get the blame. There is a lot of prejudice regarding his breed. American Bulldog. I decided to purchase a training package. To be honest, it was more than I wanted to invest. My wallet felt it. However, the investment was just that. An investment in a happy, wholesome future for SHREK and me. Just this week, we practiced "come" at Elings park with other dogs and distractions around. I'm so proud to announce that my boy is doing great with coming to me when he is called. Still working on it though. Training will always be ongoing. The thing I got most from K9 Solutions was confidence. It turns out they were training me. I've gained tremendous insight about dogs in general, and terrific training for SHREK. WOW! I dropped off my sweet, nervous, shy 6-month old Cavalier off at puppy School (PALS) and only a few sessions in she is now a confident and happier girl. Prior to K-Nine Solutions, she had separation anxiety, fearful to approach dogs/people and especially triggered by dogs barking. I can't even begin to tell everyone how extremely wonderful Eric the dog trainer is. I happen to love the fact that he is from Boston also. If you think you can't teach an old dog (or two older dogs) new tricks, think again. My dogs are both pretty great, but I have had a few issues with one of them for a long time and did not actually believe I would ever be able to fix this howling thing one of them does. Guess what, Eric helped me and it was totally painless, easy and not crazy expensive. This review is long overdue. I was desperate to find a dog trainer in the area and had trouble finding one who could start as quickly as I needed. I widened my search a little and came across Eric's entry here on Yelp. Although he only had 3 reviews at that time, his video and pictures and the 3 fairly recent (at the time) 5-star reviews sold me. Eric was incredibly responsive to all phone calls. He was able to meet right away as well. I know another company said that if someone can meet right away and take another client so quickly, then that's a sign of a poor business, but I think it's a sign of a business owner being organized enough and knowing how to arrange his schedule to accommodate new client needs. One of the best things about Eric is his demeanor. He's extremely nice and very calm. You could see his genuine love for dogs and after a just one session with them, I could see the dogs' genuine love for him! In terms of how well his techniques work -- it's amazing to watch him. As the other reviewers said, the dogs responded to his techniques almost immediately. It almost made me cry when I saw how the dogs were actually obeying someone, and they didn't look stressed or unhappy, they looked content to sit or walk the way a "good dog" would. I came to them in tears, at my wits end, trying to make life work with my blind, strong-willed, anxious, fear-aggressive and reactive rescue pitbull. My 5-month-old black lab, Harper, has already passed the AKC "Star Puppy" course and will have her evaluation for the "Canine Good Citizen" test next week. First off, Santa Barbara thanks Boston for letting us have Eric! I really don't even know where to start with this post. Eric has made ours and our dog's life so much better!! We adopted a terrier/poodle mix from DAWG about 1 month ago. He's such a sweet pup, but he also came to us with only 5% hearing. After about 1 week with us, he got comfortable and starting running our household! I've had a dog before so I figured I would be able to break him of the habits. No such luck at all. He was playful biting us constantly, biting the walls, shoes, anything he could find. We weren't sleeping through the night and life was getting pretty crazy. The first day Eric walked in our house our dog was acting completely different. With our dog being deaf we had to find a way to effectively communicate but not encourage the bad behavior or punish him. Eric introduced us to the "e collar" which we were very hesitant about at first. We got over that hesitation QUICK. It does not hurt our dog but is more like a "tap on the shoulder". I can't tell you how well our dog has responded to this! And you don't need to have a deaf dog for this collar, applies to all dogs. (we even wore the collar, you barely feel anything) After ONE month our dog is playing only with his dog toys (for the most part), sleeping through the night, trotting happily right next to us on walks, and only gives kisses instead of bites. I can't thank Eric enough!! Eric may be a little on the pricier side for the sessions, but they are private and worth their weight in gold. We've had exactly two lessons and I'm already giving these guys 5 stars. You will never meet more knowledgable, kinder people in your life. They LOVE dogs. I like people who like dogs and I love that they are after happiness and health for our family. Both Eric and Justin are exceptionally talented at what they do and dogs gravitate toward them. They know good people when they see them and our dogs we've found are a better judge of character than we are. They make training fun, friendly and they don't make us feel bad when we have 1000 questions. They just offer us 1000 solutions. We referred friends of ours to Eric and Justin that has problems with their great danes and in two weeks, they've turned the situation right around for them. What had been a very stressful, awful situation turned in to a completely wonderful one and they are so so happy with the service they received and continue to receive. We love Kninesolutions! We got two havanese puppies and we met with Justin before they arrived to prep us for our puppies. He was great helping set reasonable expectations. We have been meeting with him weekly for the past 6 weeks. Whenever we have problems with our puppies- mainly occasional accidents in house - it is because we weren't following Justin's recommendations. I can't imagine having a dog without doing this training. Our dogs are just 13weeks and already know their names and respond to "come", "sit" and "down". Last year, my son brought "Logan", an adorable little lab mix puppy, home from college for summer break. I looked forward to puppy-sitting my new grandpuppy! Eric is an amazing dog trainer! Eric had a few sessions with some rescue dogs that where deemed dog aggressive, in one session he was able to show me that the dogs were not aggressive and explained why they may been labelled that way. He worked with the dogs and had them all playing at the end of the session. Eric came for another session on how to stop a dog from cage fighting ( in her kennel) after that day and the lesson I received she no longer was a cage fighter! Eric gave me so much knowledge on dog behavior that I have used and can work with my rescues with confidence! Pippa, our French Bulldog, is gem. We've trained dogs, read the books, and attended the classes. HOWEVER...we've never trained a bulldog with three boys in the house. We were stuck. Bigtime. Then came Eric, referred by a friend. We didn't like the idea of the e-collar and I certainly didn't want to pay for it or the training, but we were desperate... and it worked. Worth every penny. Our German shepherd, Samantha is the sweetest, most lovable 90lb lap dog you could ever meet........if you're a human. She hated most other dogs until we met Eric. And Rocco :) Eric really understood her (our) behavior and helped to remedy the situation. Samantha now goes to the dog park OFF LEASH (we never thought this was possible) and interacts with all of the dogs without a problem. She is still a work in progress, but after a few lessons, we are hooked on Eric!! Our other dog is also now falling in line to the training! We were really frustrated before this and had pretty much given up taking her in public. I would highly recommend Eric and Rocco to you for you and your dog's training. read more
